A couple of weeks ago, 6 friends and I were at HUMMER for a Wednesday night experience with our small restaurant food group. Expectations were high, because lobster and Champagne, what could go wrong.

First of all, Nyhavn is a little touristy, hence the waiters had a somewhat touristy introduction to things, and started off by explaining, that it would be best if we ordered similar stuff from the menu, as their grill is not so big.... or something.
The restaurant was far from full - I think that there were a couple more guests when we arrived. Oh well, as I recall we ordered everything from the menu except a couple of dishes, as it did not bother us to wait for it, and we were there with focus on the food. After taking all orders from each person individually, the waiter had to have everything repeated but now in quantities of each dish. Okay, so that was done. Next up was the order we wished the courses to arrive in. That was decided and finally, we were asked if it was okay, that the kitchen decided the order of the dishes. At that point, a couple of us were slightly annoyed by the inefficiency.

To sum up the waiter staff; they could probably need a little more practice in taking orders efficiently, because basically, we just wanted our food in whatever order was best, and not be bothered with repeating again and again, instead of just enjoying the Champagne in our glasses. A more experienced waiter team would probably have realized this - at least in other restaurants in Copenhagen, this is rarely an issue.
Okay, now to the food. My first dish was the lobster with smoked peas and butter. A delightful dish which gave high hopes for the rest. Next up was the lobster, chicken and sorrel, on okay serving but a little less interesting. I finished off with the lobster-minced beef steak, onion and cep-bearnaise. I had high hopes for this dish, but unfortunately it was a little dry, and I could not really taste the lobster with the beef.
A lot of Champagne was consumed, which was quite nice, and we also had a lovely Magnum bottle, which was not on the wine list.
All in all, okay. In my opinion there are other restaurants in Copenhagen with a more fitting value for money level, but I do think, that the HUMMER restaurant could be very good and succesful if they shaped up the dishes a little as well as the waiter staff.
