Stayed here for one night in the Superior King Suite on the main floor with my boyfriend, and it had everything we needed. The room was clean and spacious; the bed and couches were very comfortable. Having a shared kitchenette and dining table was also very convenient. We didn’t have time to enjoy the backyard but it would’ve been perfect on a warm, sunny day. Noise can travel through the building but there were no issues for us, just some light footsteps from the top floor suite in the morning. Would come back again, thanks Cheryl!

I was a little nervous to stay at the Hummingbird Guesthouse after my friend pointed out some negative reviews on Google. My friend and I were travelling separately so she got to the guesthouse before me - I made sure she knew she wouldn’t be able to check in without me, so she’d planned on just going for a walk along the river and exploring the area (this was her first time in Port Alberni). She went to the door to ask the hostess if she could park at the guesthouse while she went for a walk along the river, but it seems the hostess was very frustrated and assumed I was going to need a late check in (or maybe she assumed my friend was trying to check-in?). This was a bit of an unusual experience - she’d expected to get a tidbit about maybe a nice place to walk or advice on one of the snack trucks that were parked a short walk away. Usually, when we travel, the people running the hotels or B&Bs like sharing things in the area that are fun or interesting to see - that was not the case here. It seems like the guesthouse was a passion project of Cheryl and Wayne’s, and Cheryl is carrying the business on - I see lots of reviews mentioning how nice Wayne was, it seems like he may have passed away and the current host is adjusting. I kept that in mind during my interactions with Cheryl and didn’t have any further issues. The room we stayed in was spacious and clean. There were little personal touches like a paddle use as a coat hanger which was clearly a gift to Cheryl and Wayne - little personal touches like this are charming and show Cheryl and Wayne must have had lots of love running this business. The location is on a busier road, so it can get loud - my friend slept with earplugs so it wasn’t an issue. The blinds in the room don’t all open, so the room was a bit dark. Overall, it’s a nice property even if the decor is a bit dated. It’s clean. The location is about a thirty minute walk from downtown. My friend’s initial interaction with the hostess made us feel like we were walking on eggshells, which made the stay a bit uncomfortable. One funny thing to note - the room has a VCR! Don’t forget your travel VHS’s if you stay at the guesthouse 😆

I reserved for 1 adult and 2 children 9 and 11, she calls me once it went thru maybe couple hours later. Right from get she was super rude and condescending the whole time. She saying it only shows 2 adults on computer I told numerous times I can screen shot my reservations but she wasn't having it getting louder and angrier on phone saying I'm the owner I k ow my rates and your not being charged the right amount. Trying to add extra $30 =$120 more than what I was already paying. Super unprofessional not recommended 😑

Gorgeous room with lovely soft lighting and the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in at a hotel or BnB (with lovely mattress topper). There was a toaster and dishes and a mini fridge, so that I could bring my own food, and real cream for tea and coffee. The huge backyard and deck with gazebo were peaceful and relaxing- the perfect place to end my day. Cheryl was lovely and accomodating of my check in needs. I would come back!

Terrible experience just trying to book a room! After giving her the dates of our stays, deciding on the room, and giving credit card details, I asked about the establishment's cancellation policy. She asked when we will fly to the West coast - that would be the deadline for cancelling. There does not appear to be a cancellation policy and she cut me off saying that she cancelling my reservations and hung up. We are closely watching our credit card account to assure that there is no fraud.

This is our second time staying here. Cheryl is always so great to us and so accommodating! She also has the space to accommodate our boat! The first time we stayed here we stayed in the room with the sauna and mini shared kitchen.. it was spacious and the sauna was a nice touch! This time we stayed in the suite upstairs with the full kitchen. When I say full the kitchen literally has everything from pots and pans to aluminum foil and paper towel, a cheese grater and so much more! It was perfect for us to cook our meal kits in. ||I love that this place is called Hummingbird Guest House and Charters and is decorated beautifully with Hummingbird accents. What a beautiful property inside and out. ||Thank you so much Cheryl! We will be back!

I stayed here for a week by myself in the main floor suite. It was very clean and well-maintained. The property is gorgeous. The guesthouse is very cozy and felt like a home away from home for me. It was really nice to have a safe and relaxing space to have family visit with me during the day while getting away from the hustle and bustle to get some work done in my down time. Cheryl was very kind and accommodating; I really enjoyed chatting with her and getting to know about her and the property and the city itself. If I had to list one downside it would be the noise levels from other guests upstairs who probably just didn't realize how heavy-footed they were being (in addition to generally dropping things and slamming doors, etc). Overall, a good pair of noise-cancelling headphones went a long way to deal with that! I would absolutely stay here again and hope that I get the opportunity to do so.

In my life I have travelled pretty much anywhere, and stayed in any kind of hotel, from 5 stars to 3 stars, from little hostels to huge resorts and so on… The host of this guesthouse was by far the rudest person I have encountered. I went with my family and the welcome she gave us was just awfully rude and careless, the old lady was clearly only interested in the money as she quite literally rushed to make us pay. Moreover, she disrespected my family with her words as well, unacceptable. I strongly suggest anyone sane reading this to move on to some other place!
