Hunan By the Falls

This was my first time trying this place, and it was delicious. I had the firecracker prawns, and the portion was generous and quality at the same time. I brought home enough leftovers for 2 additional meals. My friend had a noodle dish, which also looked appetizing. For an appetizer, we tried the crab rangoon. It came with a hot mustard sauce that was so tasty, I think it could be homemade. The meal was worth the price.

Our party of four was very impressed with the restaurant from the moment we walked in until we walked out with our bag of leftovers for tomorrow's lunch. The staff was very friendly and welcoming with excellent service. The food, needless to say, was unique and delicious. We had the chicken wrap appetizer, beef rib appetizer, tangerine duck, crisp beef, egg plant with noodle and shrimp with walnuts. The rice and tea was plentiful. We can't wait to come back. A five star experience.

There’s lots of good places to eat in Chagrin Falls, but this is my favorite. The food is always prepared perfectly and the portions are great. The service has always been outstanding, and the place has a nice atmosphere.

The people are nice but the food doesnt have much flavor. I ordered a crispy dish and all i got was soggy meat. Definitely not worth the price. Crab rangoon is horrible

My husband grew up going to this restaurant and although we don’t live in Ohio anymore we had to stop in when we visited just for nostalgia’s sake. IT WAS DELICIOUS! the food was seasoned perfectly, you could tell everything is homemade. The beef ho fun noodles are to die for! The atmosphere is just okay (clean but could use updating) but the service and food were amazing.

Pleasantly surprised at not only acquaint and welcoming atmosphere, but delicious food with hefty portions. Plenty for leftovers for lunch. The next day definitely will be back.

I live in Asiatown in Cleveland where we have a wealth of great Asian Food. However I was in Chagrin Falls tonight for a play and decided to stop at Hunan by The Falls. The service was beyond friendly . This is a legit family business where they take pride in their food and their service . If I could give them more stars I would . Get the seafood egg rolls! Best egg roll I’ve ever had.

The food was great! We got some veggie egg rolls which were crispy with traditional filling. Their spicy mustard is legit! My wife got General Tso Chicken, and exactly what you would expect from this classic dish. I got crispy beef which was cooked in a brown sauce with ginger. Perfect balance of sweet and savory. Would highly recommend. The staff was very friendly! Would recommend!!!

Just a great place. I live in New Jersey now but grew up in the Western Reserve. Good Chinese, let's just say, is heard to find in Northeast Ohio. But Hunan is as good as any place, anywhere. We went on Memorial Day Weekend. Outstanding service from Hallie. I absolutely loved the Happy Family Fire Pot, which has a little bit of everything, a nice and spicy sauce and everything was sizzling hot temperature wise and fresh. The Sizzling Rice soup, which my mother and I shared, was very tasty as well. A gem of Chagrin Falls!

Grabbed this for delivery lunch one day. Ordered nearly a dozen dishes for the group of us, and everything was delicious! I particularly enjoyed the dumplings as well as some of the noodle dishes. A solid spot to grab a quick lunch or dinner!

I recently visited Hunan by the Falls with my family (party of four). I'd heard they were recently awarded Cleveland's Best of the East, so I was excited to finally try it and see what all the praise was about. The atmosphere is pleasant enough, though it doesn't really give off an Asian vibe -- perhaps that's intentional. Service, however, was excellent. Our waiter had a great sense of humor and really added to the experience. Unfortunately, the food itself was underwhelming. I started with the Seafood Egg Roll ("crispy jumbo shrimp, scallop, and crabstick egg roll with daikon radish slaw and a sweet chili/wasabi sauce"). It sounded amazing, but the roll wasn't very crispy -- in fact, it was soggy on the bottom. For my entrée, I ordered the Firecracker Prawns ("celebration-sized prawns, wok-sizzled with hot peppers, onions, peas, scallions in a tomato-based Hunan sauce"). This was described as spicy, but it wasn't spicy at all. The flavor leaned more sweet-and-sour than "firecracker." Not terrible, but definitely disappointing. Others in my group weren't impressed either. One ordered Pork Fried Rice, which turned out to be white rice with mixed vegetables (likely frozen) and strips of pork. The pork was decent, but the dish as a whole lacked the depth and flavor one usually expects -- no soy sauce, no sesame oil, no hint of seasoning. "Flavorless" was the general consensus at our table. We did share our feedback with the owner when she asked how everything was. She seemed genuinely surprised, encouraged us to come back, and suggested leaving the ordering up to her next time. It's possible we just caught the kitchen on an off night, and I appreciate her willingness to stand by the food. That said, based on this first visit, I can't recommend Hunan by the Falls. If we return and have a better experience, I'll update this review.

I wasn't a huge fan of Hunan by the Falls, but maybe I just didn't try the right dish. I got the pan fried noodles, which also had chicken and vegetables. I don't think the quality of the chicken was great and I didn't like the flavor of the sauce. The menu didn't really describe what kind of flavor the dish came with. I'd try something different next time.

We just got take out. Short and sweet, best restaurant in Chagrin Falls! Nicest workers ever!

I was looking for a new Thai place to try and decided to give this place a shot. My friend and I came on a Saturday evening and made reservations the day before - I'm glad I did because the place was packed! There is ample parking out front and in the back which is rare for a restaurant in Chagrin Falls. Servers were attentive but there was a bit of a language barrier. They do charge a small up charge if you pay with card. We tried the crispy beef and Szechuan sesame noodles with chicken. The beef was outstanding. Lightly breaded and fried in a flavorful sauce. The noodles were good but I've had better peanut sauce elsewhere and would probably order something different next time. The menu offers Asian food from many cuisines including Chinese, Thai, and some Japanese. They have lots of seasonal specials. I'll definitely come back and give some other dishes a try. They even box the food up for you to take home which was a nice touch.

We really enjoy this location for Chinese take out. They are fast, they have very good food, and reasonable prices. We've tried many things that I'll try to recall below but always fail to get pix before devouring. I'll start by saying that the chicken seems legit, which isn't always the case for me and restaurants so normally I stick to vegetarian. But my husband loves chicken fried rice so we always get as a staple and while good, needs lots of soy and doesn't have any fried texture at all. We've had the lo mein which is not my favorite, wouldn't recommend however we like the general tso, pineapple chicken, hunan chicken, hunan beef, and hunan veggies. Recently found out you can get them spicy and they are awesome! Great amount of veggies in a good brown sauce. Love the hot and sour soup but the wonton is just OK. Crispy spring rolls are super solid too. Pan fried chicken is good as well. This will continue to be our takeout spot and we try at least one New thing each time. Keep up the great work!

We stopped in for dinner as a group of three at 6:30pm after we had made a reservation earlier in the day. They have a small parking lot, but we were able to get a spot no problem. We were welcomed in and given a table in the middle of the restaurant. The place settings were really cute and when we ordered tea and our cups matched as well. They had a Summer Specials menu as well as a pretty extensive regular menu. We ordered a couple egg rolls and potstickers as appetizers and the Bangkok Duck, Mala String Beans and Zucchini and Fresh mushrooms as our entrees to share. We enjoyed our appetizers first and the entrees came out shortly after. Everything was tasty and we noticed the vegetables were really fresh. They have the option of mild, medium or spicy for many items and we ordered the Mala string beans spicy and they only had a hint of heat. They were really flavorful though and we were fine with them not being on the spicier side. While we were there they filled our waters and checked in on us frequently. We also noticed a few groups celebrating birthdays and enjoying family dinners. It was definitely a family friendly spot.

This was our second visit to Hunan by the Falls. I am still impressed with the lovely dining room, excellent service and wonderful innovative dishes. Our server was friendly and very helpful in packaging the food we didn't eat. We had the tangerine duck, egg plant with noodles, crispy beef as well as several apps. Each one was unique and delicious. Can't wait to go back.

Literally, my favorite and the best Chinese /Asian /Thai place hands down! also in my top three favorite restaurants just in general in the valley! I have been obsessed with the walnut chicken and beef chow how fung! Cant forgot the Pad Thai, Spring Rolls, and Crab Rangoon all are lights out! It's all good though you can't go wrong. Thank you Hunan by the Falls for always driving for the freshest and highest quality ingredients. You can really taste the difference out of all the other places so nice to have you in the area for so long! They also have a really cool dining room as well, which is very relaxing and fun and they have some of the most friendly staff around !

Really solid! Tasty food - the typical dishes you'd expect. The staff were very attentive and sweet to our baby. Small space but workable with a stroller. Parking lot right in front is a plus.

We just had my birthday dinner there. It's probably the best Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. Evxcellent food and service.

Came here on a Friday night after having a not so tasty experience at another restaurant in the area. It was a great pivot lol Solid choice for classic dishes. The service was attentive and fast. Plum wine also very tasty.

Great Asian food. Mainly Chinese but also Thai and Vietnamese dishes. Good service. A bit remote location from Cleveland. Sadly they charge a credit card fee.

Bbq duck is the best duck I've had in a long time. It's my new favorite. My husband is about the spice. The kitchen will spice to order. Every meal I've had here has been very good. The service is good. When dining, I feel well taken care of and not rushed. The service staff is very knowledgeable. The ambience is pleasant, the restaurant feels very comfortable to me.

I had a hard time deciding on what I want from here because there were so many options to choose from. I wish I could try everything, but we got the walnut chicken, Bok-Choy with Beef & Portabello Mushrooms, hot and sour soup (small), and deluxe wonton soup. I'm glad all the food came in microwavable plastic containers (except for the rice) instead of paper, styrofoam, or the waxy containers. It's also nice that our meal came with white rice without charging extra like they do in Seattle for dinner. The hot and sour soup was the first thing I tried, and I liked how packed it was of all the ingredients instead of the skimping other Chinese restaurants do. I immediately felt a sting from the pepper in my first bite. It seems like they overloaded the soup with pepper. I had to end up eating most of it with rice. The small size of the deluxe wonton soup came with 4 pieces. The broth tasted great with the right amount of cabbage and green onions in the soup. The walnut chicken came with fewer than 5 pieces of broccoli, but a ton of not-so-fully-breaded chicken pieces. The pieces were kind of big, though, so I would prefer the same volume of smaller pieces more. There was some weird white sauce at the bottom of the container, which I assumed was supposed to go with the walnuts. Usually walnut shrimp is coated in white sauce, so I'm not sure if we were supposed to coat the chicken ourselves this time. The Bok-Choy with Beef & Portabello Mushrooms was very flavorful and tasted how it's supposed to be. I got hints of garlic, which is one of my favorites. They didn't skimp on anything with this dish. There was an equal amount of everything. There were only 2 Chinese places to choose from around here, so Hunan was the best choice menu-wise, except that it made it harder to pick what dishes to order. Something I wanted to try was their Singapore noodles, but I'm hesitant because I'm afraid of being disappointed, since I've had the "real thing" in Asia multiple times. Overall, I felt the dishes were well seasoned and regular priced. I would recommend this restaurant if you're craving Americanized Chinese food, but stick with the more flavorful ingredient dishes, unless you want something more bland.

Food is so hot and fresh. homemade. Causal, but elevated environment. The service is quick !

In what seemed like the busiest day of the year, we had such a great experience at Hunan by the Falls on Christmas Eve. From the friendly person who took the order over the phone to the food being ready when they said it would, service was excellent! The order was prepared exactly as requested (we had a few modifications from the general menu) and food was stellar overall. Love supporting a local business who has great service and delicious food.

This is one of my fave places to get Pad Thai! I have been eating here since I first had them for lunch 8 years ago, while working at a salon in downtown Chagrin. The owner would always give my youngest son (at the time) chocolate mints and she even remembered them when he wasn't with me fo pick up take out. Try the (your protein choice) Satay, wet w/extra noodle. You will not be disappointed.

Yummy yummy yummy did I say yummy lol. We have been eating here for many years. The staff are fantastic. We love all the food. They do a lot I mean a lot of takeout orders. Dining room is usually busy. I highly recommend this restaurant a great place.

Hunans by the Falls is our place for Asian cuisine. Delicious! Fresh! Clean! Friendly! We have been going to Hunans since it opened. (30+years?) Everything is always consistent, you know what to expect. My favorite meal at Hunans is the vegetable delight and a Tangaray and tonic. Lol David has tried just about everything on the menu at this point and says it's all delicious.

Always great food and great service! Best Chinese food around. If you want more authentic you can order off the menu for more traditional dishes. Excellent!

Did a take out. Picked it up at 30 minutes and it was ready and delicious. Lots of white rice was included. Optional was fried rice. I ordered the Tangerine China Sole. It was a fillet of fish with a tangerine sauce with a few vegetables. It was very good. The online takeout menu listed the price as $17.95. I ate half and saved the rest for later. My friends enjoyed their meals. We included a tip.

Favorite Chinese spot in Cleveland by far! Service is great and perfect for when the cold weather starts.

Best Thai food we have had in awhile. They do let customers choose the spice heat level. We will definitely be back.

We came here with friends who dine here frequently. From the moment we walked in, the staff was friendly and quick to serve us. Our main server was Pam, attentive and vey personable. The menu was extensive with a wide variety of food options, reminiscent of my 26 years living in Los Angeles. We ordered vegetarian spring rolls which were hot and crispy on the outside and flavorful and fresh on the inside. I personally don't usually eat egg rolls as they tend to be bland and greasy, but these were PERFECT. The eggplant dish was full of flavor with a variety of vegetables, a generous portion of chicken and served over chow fun noodles. The yellow curry had the perfect amount of spices, also served with a generous amount of chicken over a bed of lo mein noodles. Our friend's tofu hot pot had an incredible mixture of very fresh vegetables, including two types of mushrooms, baby corn, broccoli, scallions, eggplant, snow peas, and more. The seasoning was fantastic, enhancing the flavors, although I personally did not eat any of the tofu. Last was the rice/ chicken dish which also had fresh broccoli I cannot over emphasize the differences in seasoning from dish to dish, and the freshness and variety of vegetables; excellent!! Total cost without tip was ?$77, very reasonable. Food and service aside, the restaurant was clean with a beautiful koi pond outside. Bottom line: I would definitely return to this restaurant when in the Chagrin Falls area.

We had a nice meal at Hunan by the Falls on a recent Friday night. I ordered Sesame Chicken and my husband got hot & sour soup and Hunan Beef. Both of our entrees came with white rice. The service was fine and the food was good but it wasn't anything more than typical Chinese food.

Since it's been three years, I'd thought I'd just write a little something again.. still love Hunans!!

Got take out from here before heading to the hotel, first the bad, the chicken wings were some of the worst, I have ever had. The batter was falling apart soft and soggy and they soaked the wings in what tasted like store bought sweet chili sauce absolutely, dreadful. The bourbon chicken looked awful and tasted like honey chicken, I have never had bourbon chicken like this in my life. Batter was falling apart. Now the good, the fire pan seafood. Maybe you should stick to the more authentic items when coming here. They give you nice portions of shrimp and scallops and fresh vegetables. This dish saved them and unlike the other dishes this one they took pride in and it shows. The tea bags they give are fairly good as well.

Great selection, solidly good food and very consistently good. My only reason for not giving 5 stars is that the service for me has always been slow... makes for a long dinner. If you don't mind that, this is some a the best Asian food in the area.

Got a carryout order of few different chicken dishes, soup and pad Thai. Order was ready promptly (30 min). Food is good, standard Chinese fair, good quality. Not much to complain about nor is there anything to rave about either.

Get ready for some AMAZING Chinese and Thai food. You will love everything! Our family has been coming here for years and years. It's our favorite Asian food restaurant. Adults, kids and everyone in between will enjoy! The owners are delightful, the food filling and the drink great. Get take out or dine in for a relaxing experience.

Well, it's a generous four stars for Hunan by the Falls. Starting with the positives: * it's a clean and well lit space * the service is friendly and they stay on top of things * the prices are in line with the quality of food I don't have any specific things that are negative. Overall, this is one of the better Chinese restaurants in the East Suburbs.

Love this place! We both had prawns with walnuts and that is one marvelous dish. Also had veggie spring rolls and wonton soup, best ever. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, way nicer than the usual Asian place. Wait staff is so friendly. -- kind of like being taken care of by your parents. We live fairly far away from Chagrin, but this is our official go to place for Chinese cuisine.

First time there. Highly recommended to me. Food did not disappoint I went on a night when it was pouring outside and was still worth it

By the reviews, I was expecting the best Chinese food of my life. That's a huge expectation. I'd maybe say that the food is just very, very good and is the crave-worthy traditional Chinese food I would expect around the east side. Pros: + Plenty of spacious seating. + Very fair pricing for lunch. + Huge lunch portions. + Quiet, courteous crowd inside the giant open space. Otherwise, we had the Sesame Chicken and Walnut Chicken for a late lunch. Both had huge pieces of chicken, giant broccoli and were doused in sauce. Super flavorful. The decor isn't the most hip and modern in the joint, but that doesn't bother me. Its certainly a nice place to come and grab a bite, but might not have the romantic decor some are hoping for. Also, do note that Hunan is literally just "by" the falls. You can't actually see it from the restaurant interior, in case that's a deciding factor for you (it wasn't for us, we just wanted Chinese food). The service was excellent, the restaurant was very clean, and it was exactly what we expected. I'll definitely be back to try them out for dinner. Worth a visit if you're in the area!

I usually visit this place twice a year because it is a bit of a drive for me.This place has ample parking which is a huge plus. The decor is great, white table cloths and all. Don't expect take-put quality food and prices here, it is better than your average Chinese restaurant. My favorite dishes are the crispy orange beef and the walnut chicken. Also a must try are the green beans yummy. Service is very friendly and food arrives quickly. It is a nice spot couple's date or a sit-down dinner with family. I highly recommend Hunan By the Falls.

This Asian restaurant's food is amazing. The quality is second to none. They have dishes you're familiar with, and some that you may not.

Fresh and inviting. Not huge portions but consistently delicious. Prices are a bit higher than other Asian restaurants.

Let's start from the outside and make our way in. Outside-easy to find, clean, safe area, easy parking, welcoming. Inside-well staffed, well maintained, clean, friendly, pretty waterfall, neat tables. Food-delicious! I was fortunate enough to sample several dishes-my favorites were the beef w/broccoli, the string beans, and the jade minced chicken! Very flavorful! If I'm ever in the area again, I'll be sure to stop by and stock up on the deliciousness!

This is the best Chinese food in the area. Great staff, great ambiance, and a huge menu. Everything we've had has been delicious. LoVE this place!!!

Used to be our favourite neighborhood restaurant to go to for an evening, but it has really gone downhill. Last time was poor, but we thought we'd give it another go, as we loved it so much in the past. The won ton soup was pure salt and the seafood egg rolls, our past favourite, is just a bunch of fake crab with no flavour, the main course, a real disappointment. Gave it another chance, but don't think we'll go for 3 strikes and you're out, 2 was enough lately. We'll take a long time off before trying again. Maybe they will bring in another chef that can bring them to past excellence. By the way, you aren't a Thai restaurant, so stick to what you knew best in days past. Sad, as it is in our neighborhood and we want to support local places during this Pandemic
