"Down the street is Hung Sum Restaurant, an equally decadent dim sum experience with an a la carte menu that includes classics like pork buns, dumplings, and fried rice."

My favorite dim sum restaurant in Ottawa! It is run by a very kind wife and husband (she serves, he cooks) - I've only ever seen this duo working. Despite this, even if the restaurant is busy they are pretty quick! They are great for bringing out food items in the order they should be consumed.

Revisited Hung Sum recently and was astonished at how it's turned a corner to now offer both fast service and really tasty food. The speed and service were one star on our last visit but that's been remedied. Everything on our list arrived promptly and was all hand made to order - there's no dead tired old dry steamed stuff here. Pricing is reasonable for most of the dishes and the portions are consistent with what you'd expect. Will be back soon.

One of the rare dim sum restaurants that makes all of their dishes from scratch (even the classic fried flat noodle dish - you may be familiar with the 'Beef fried flat noodle dish offered in many Chinese take-out). They started in the first floor of a single family dwelling roughly a decade or so ago and have moved to a proper restaurant building to accommodate more clients. Come early for the wait is long due to not only many customers but the dishes themselves are made from scratch and brought fresh right away from their steamers. Dim-sum was always a weaker offering compared to Toronto but the availability of 'freshly created' dishes definitely gives it the edge. It'd be hard to find a place that doesn't offer pre-made dim sum dishes that are simply frozen goods placed in a steamer. Only negative is the long wait times but given the adage 'great things come to those who wait' has never been truer!

Recommended by friends, i came for dim sum at this place. First impression, it is pretty busy for a weekday lunch time. Tastes of dim sum are quiet different since they are all homemade explained by the owner. Years ago, many restaurants made their dim sum, but now dim sum are pre-made by big suppliers. It is good to taste homemade stuff...

Three of us were here on a Sunday for lunch. Two ladies tended to the entire restaurant, one mostly spending her time behind the counter. We waited 45 mins for a seat. They had half an empty restaurant for most of this wait, but wouldn't clean any tables. Once seated, they proceeded to ignore us for another 20mins. They seated, served, and took orders for parties that came in after us. We literally had to yell and wave our arms to get one lady's attention before they would take our order and bring us tea. Once they did take our orders, the wait for food itself was not too long. Dishes came out steadily. The food was good, but nothing special. We ordered a total of 12 different dim sum dishes shared between the 3 of us. The Cantonese style shrimp dumpling was a favourite. Overall, food was good at decent prices but we feel there are many other places along Somerset with same calibre food. We did not enjoy our dining experience and would not return here based on their complete lack of service. Wouldn't recommend this restaurant unless you enjoy sitting around wasting your time.

The food was overpriced and the service was slow. That's pretty much what everyone else here is saying anyway. It's the best dim sum I've tried in Ottawa though. The skin is thin so you're not filling up on shells, and there are full shrimps in the dumplings. The food was piping hot, there's a huge hot sauce bottle ready for you on the table, the tripe was too crunchy for my taste, the chicken feet were perfect, the taro balls could have had more filling but the taro itself was impressive, and the fried shrimp balls were terrific. I read about how slow their service was so I brought stuff for the kids to play with. Thank goodness colour accurate Google reviews!!

Dim sum here is good! We like most of the menu items. Shrimp roll is okay, it looks like it's missing 2 shrimp but it's the way they make it. Seseme ball is tasty and has red bean inside.

The best dim sum in Ottawa, but lacking the finer details that you would expect in Toronto. First, all their deep fried dimsum are excellent. Still hot and crispy. Most of the flavours, textures, and individual sizing are authentic and are the same as you would expect compared to Toronto. This is compared to Yangtze where sometimes you would find these comically large dimsum being served, but it would be all batter and no filling. That said, some of the portions here are a little less than what I would've hoped for. For example, 2 chasiu buns instead of 3. The sticky rice was dry and contained barely any filling. Would not order again. The chasiu chernfun 腸粉 was cold! The doughsticks 炸兩 were not served with the standard oyster sauce & sesame paste. Had to ask for it, and even after asking they only had oyster sauce available. The soy sauce was also squirted onto the plate, but none over the doughsticks themselves. Would've prefered it given on the side so that I can do it myself. The beef balls were too tenderized for my liking. And they were not served with the worcestershire sauce on the side. Neither was worcestershire sauce served on the side with the other fried dish, but a small amount was squirted onto it. Only one server at lunch on a weekday. She did her best but service was impacted nonetheless. I'll come back but I'll be lowering my expectations a tad.
