Hungarian National Museum

I loved my visit! I’m really into history and art and was amazed by all of the objects but especially the jewelry and fashion collection they have which spans the centuries. They are mixed in with the other objects in the permanent collection. I just showed up and bought a ticket there. No student discount though. Went on a Wed in early Jan and it was basically empty. They have a nice cafe inside where you can grab a coffee and sandwich. The gift shop is great too. If you have an hour or two I highly recommend!

Visited this museum and found it very informative and well curated. It clearly tells the history of Hungary, with lots of historic artifacts and exhibits covering different periods of the country’s past. The collections help you understand Hungary’s culture and historical development in a structured way. A great place to visit if you’re interested in history and learning more about the country.

Not a lot of people on a workday morning, so it was nice and easy to get around. The museum gives a great insight into hungarian rich history. However, the text on the walls next to pictures/sculptures could be placed higher up and it even faded off at certain places.

Highly recommended! For me this is the best place in Budapest to learn about Hungary's entire 1,000-year bb history and culture. It's a must-see for history lovers. The museum is completed in 1847, is a Neoclassical architecture. The museum’s collection is very huge and for my opinion you need 2 to 3 hours to see the main exhibits comfortably. Don't miss to see: The Coronation Mantle, The Seuso Treasure, The 1848 Revolution Exhibit. The museum is considered accessible for all ages

A beautiful building, an amazing collection. You can see Hungary's history throughout all the centuries. If you are a history lover it's truly a must. If not, the building and the gardens are also beautiful and quite peaceful, it's nice to even just have a walk and look at them. If you are an EU citizen (up to 26 or over 70) you are entitled to a discount. They will probably ask you even if you don't mention it though.

I highly recommend this Museum as your very first stop in Budapest! The history of Hungary is well-organized and presented in an engaging manner! You will better appreciate everything else this beautiful city and rich national culture have to offer! Prioritize the history portion if you don’t have much time. It is worth it! Must-sees: King St. Stephen’s coronation mantle from 1,000 years ago and Beethoven’s piano that was given to Liszt after Beethoven’s death and he, in turn, donated to the Museum. If you have time, visit everything! There is a temporary exhibition that, in my opinion, presents the best concept ever! Fantastic content, pertinent message, immersive audio-visual effects, and much more! The video attached does not make justice to it but it gives you an idea! The Museum offers a Café and a Gift Shop! Many books in English, French, Spanish, and German, including handy Budapest guides. Definitely visit this place! You won’t regret!!!

Compared to the Budapest History Museum, it has a smaller collection related to Budapest’s history, but its interior is stunning. It features an impressive array of military artifacts, including chain mail and various types of firearms and surprisingly visitors can touch these replica collections. It takes 1.5hours to visit the regular exhibition.

Wonderful experience! We visited there on a national day, hence it was free entry. The interior of the museum is spectacular, and the contents are very rich; from Hungarian history, to the modern scientific development. You could definitely spend a whole afternoon there. Very recommended!
