Not a huge museum, but it is absolutely worth a visit. The museum could use more signage, many people were accidentally going through the exhibits backwards (its a timeline). Great info - some plaques had English but most were Hungarian. Museum shop is well stocked, and there is a coffee shop on the same floor. Storage lockers require coins.

Interesting museum that covers a tonne of Hungarian history. I know Hungary has a separate military history museum (which is currently closed) but I was surprised at how little military history there is. There is the ending of the museum sequence but this is more focused on the Nazis and the Soviets (emphasis on the latter). I would agree with other reviewers that it was odd having to get your ticket checked so many times (and that the people checking the tickets couldn't show anymore that they'd rather be elsewhere).

The Hungarian National Museum is a great stop if you’re into history—or even if you’re just curious. The building itself is grand and beautiful, and the inside is packed with fascinating stuff, from ancient artifacts to modern exhibits that walk you through Hungary’s story. Everything’s well-organized, and there are English descriptions throughout, which makes it really easy to follow. Even just wandering the museum feels like a step back in time. Definitely worth a visit if you want to get a feel for the country’s past.

I was just hanging out in Budapest and I didn’t know what to do so I decided to stop in on what is apparently the major national Museum wow what a great decision. They have an amazing garden and a beautiful building. They also have very tight security. they check your tickets at every single door. I thought that was really good because sometimes I go to museums and they don’t check my ticket and they did check at numerous time so that was a plus I also saw a lot of fashion and Armour and like anthropology and archaeology so it was really just everything I love You must come.

For tourists who don’t speak the language, this isn’t a museum I would recommend visiting. We went to both the permanent and the temporary exhibition. Some rooms were set up interestingly, others we didn’t quite understand. The museum is easy to navigate and the personell is friendly. It wouldn’t be on the top of my list if I were visiting Hungary for the first time again.

To put it simply this is THE musuem you'd want to visit It contains both beautiful artwork and the history of Hungaria from its Inception And also the cafe there is extremely high quality and fairly priced, i was genuinely surprised that the tart is only 750 HUF

Really annoying concept with a ticket, there are 4 “parts” of the museum and you will be asked to show your ticket in every single one, instead on the entrance only. Museum itself is okay, although there is no any logical order, any unique or traditional stuff - the only extraordinary thing is Beethoven’s and Listz’s piano. A lot of, let’s say “twisted” historical facts that are not really true and really not a lot to do/see. However, ticket price is fairly cheap and still this might be okayish way to spend time in Budapest. PS. There are ticket machines on the sides, if you want to avoid a huge line.

It’s about 8 rooms and lots of history items to look at. The entrance itself is the most stunning room imo 😂 included in the budapass.
