Stumptown coffee, casual lunch fare & housemade baked goods in a chill, modern storefront setting.
"Ah yes, coffee. We need it, we love it, we must have it. And our new favorite spot for its consumption? Hungry Ghost. The atmosphere is excellent, a calm and relaxing little break from a busy Flatbush Avenue. And their Baristas? Well, let’s just say they’re obsessed with coffee — they’re after the perfect espresso — meticulously preparing single origin coffees, and serving the finest cold brewed iced coffee on tap. That’s right, on tap. It literally comes in a pint glass, and it’s amazing. As is Chef Pete Solomita, who makes an assortment of baked goods on the premises every day. Our favorites include his praline and sea salt brownies, raspberry ginger muffins, date walnut scones, and cheddar and black pepper biscuits. This place just makes the morning commute so much better." - Aki Carpenter & Chris Huban
"This sort of thing never happens to you, but you accidentally hit a very nice person with a frisbee in Prospect Park and now you’re going on a date with them. Buy them a sandwich and a coffee at Hungry Ghost nearby. It’s a nice spot in Prospect Heights (there are a few other locations) with big comfortable banquettes and a bunch of stools around tables." - hannah albertine
"Some parts of NYC have multiple coffee chains on every block, but very little else in terms of decent places to get caffeine. The area surrounding the Barclays Center is one such region. So keep an eye out for Hungry Ghost, a casual spot serving Stumptown coffee and breakfast/lunch. There are a bunch of small tables and a couple leather armchairs that make this a good non-Starbucks option for a coffee date." - Matt Tervooren
"Imagine if your best friend’s slacker little brother, who always seemed like a space cadet but had a lot of creative potential, opened a restaurant. It would be disorganized, but with really good food, which is basically what’s going on at Hungry Ghost. Their website doesn’t work, they stay open late, and the menu is all over the place with a mix of both Vietnamese and non-Vietnamese food. Stop by for lunch and grab a fried chicken banh mi or ghost pepper chicken burrito to go, or come here at 2am with your friends for one last drink and a bowl of meatball pho before you go to bed." - Sarah Bailey
