Hunkubakkar Guesthouse

We stayed here for one night and upgraded to a private cabin on site. The gentleman running the office was very nice, friendly, and accommodating. The cabin is absolutely lovely, and thanks to the space heater we also had no issues with temperature. Plenty of power outlets available, too. The bathroom is a bit tight, especially the sink and shower, larger people might have some problems here. We’re only partway through our trip but I’m confident already that staying here was a highlight as the remote cabin feeling is just wonderful.

Rustic cabins but clean. Quiet. Excellent service and great restaurant. The lamb steaks were amazing, raised and processed across the road.

Hunkubakkar is a quiet, cozy farm with plenty of cabins to stay in and enjoy the great scenery. Our pillows in our room were small and lackluster, but that has been the case in most places we've stayed in so it may be a cultural difference. We had an excellent view of the mountains/hillside with plenty of cute sheep. The dinner was fantastic and the grilled arctic charr was perfect. Breakfast was great as well, but no eggs or meat other than ham if you are a hearty breakfast enjoyer.

Spent only one night here, very friendly people telling us where what was, great breakfast, clean, a little bit too much light in the room (midnight sun... ) but minor inconvenience. Not far from Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon, just a 5 minute drive.

Excellent, especially for a cozy family bonding experience without camping in a tent or van/ campsite/ camper. The staff was great! The breakfast was so good!

Rooms were clean and cozy. Staff were so kind and helpful. Location is beautiful and peaceful.

When we got to our cozy cottage in Hunkubakkar we felt the heating which was really nice because it was cold outside. The beds were soft and plushy, and though the bathroom was tight it worked out perfectly. The breakfast was awesome, and so was the beautiful canyon that was minutes away from the site.

The room was small but enough for the night. They are really nice there and it is very quiet and if the sky is clear you can see the northern lights. Also very close to the canyon. Points to improve: quality of the mattress and just adding eggs to the breakfast would be really nice 😊
