This is a good enough mountain for an easy to get to, local mountain! I’m accustomed to mountains out west so I keep expectations in check but I always enjoy coming here. Nice vibe for the most part, lifts always working, decent (but short) assortment of black runs. And even a fun long blue run. Snow is very varying. East Coast winter is getting softer. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Nonetheless, this is my spot when I’m not out west or further up north.

At 7:45 am on weekend there were no handicap spots available. Handicap parking is not monitored so those without official passes or plates park in handicapped spots freely without any warnings from Hunter such as a notice placed on the car or audible announcements at the lodge. nor is there police enforcement. Handicap parking should be separate from non handicap with an employee checking passes in the morning.

It’s a great mountain to ski in New York. Heard it was going to be very icy, but it wasn’t at all. The trails are amazing, and the snow was nice too. We went on a thursday and friday, so it wasn’t crowded at all. Lines were maybe 30 seconds long on those two days? Food was decent, but really expensive.

Beautiful beautiful ❤️ loved the place and the ride was awesome 😎👍 we went to see Fall colors and were very happy on your decision. Place has lot of activities for winter as well like skiing. They have lots of eating shops (ya prices are premium example a margarita slice 🍕 would be $10+ tax, also if you are vegetarian options will be less) . Crowd is great 👍 staff is good. They also have place to stay. Lot of parking spots are available for free. Being in mountains weather is very fluctuating but very nice 👍. See pics and videos for details. Thanks 🙏👍

The staff was good as well as the scenery. The rooms were clean (besides the dishes.. make sure to clean those) . I loved how you could ski from the hotel and how there was a restaurant on the bottom floor. 10/10 would go again!

I was really looking forward to visiting, but unfortunately, the experience didn’t meet my expectations due to some logistical challenges. It took us about an hour just to get into the parking lot, which was surprising. Although we had pre-purchased tickets, we still needed to stand in an additional line to redeem them—a step that wasn’t mentioned at the time of purchase. After that, there was another two-hour wait for the lift. The views were beautiful, but with all the waiting, it felt like we spent more time in line than enjoying the surroundings. On a positive note, the staff was friendly and did a good job managing foot traffic during ticket redemption. I’d recommend better communication about the ticket process and possibly streamlining lift entry and parking entry to make the experience more enjoyable.

2nd time ever going. 1st time was for skiing. 2nd time was for snow tubing. Both times were extremely fun. The hot chocolate from the indoor store is pricey so don't get surprised when ordering for the whole family. Overall though, not this year but we'll definitely be going back. It's worth the drive.

Google
We paid for a group lesson and it’s not cheap. For first timers trying to learn basics of skiing - it wasn’t the greatest lesson. The instructor was focused on girls who were picking up fast & doing good. He wasn’t paying a lot of attention to me & my friend - we were having a really hard time stopping and all. In addition to that no one helped us with shoes or anything when we were renting things out. Again- as first timers for skiing you wouldn’t easily get through shoes and all but the staff wasn’t really helpful. Next time I would either try going on a weekday when they are a lil less busy or go there but not take lessons.

Yelp
It's about 2.5 hours drive from manhattan on a Saturday. So busy on a Saturday. We had perfect weather. The rental line is very long so get there early if you're renting. The lockers are $12 to rent for a small. The workers at the rental are super friendly n helpful. Always appreciate good service. Makes up fur the long wait. The bathroom in the rental area is very bad. Old n smelly. The snow is always freshly made, since it hadn't snowed lately. I only been to the magic carpet n The green mtn. Both very nice. Very friendly n helpful staff.

Yelp
Hunter Mountain Ski Bowl Resort is a fantastic destination for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts. The variety of trails caters to all skill levels, from beginner to advanced, making it an enjoyable experience for everyone. The snow conditions are usually well-maintained, and the lifts run smoothly, minimizing wait times even during peak periods. The resort facilities are modern and clean, and the staff is friendly and helpful, which enhances the overall experience. The dining options on-site are decent, offering a range of meals to keep you fueled for a day on the slopes. The only downside is that it can get crowded on weekends and holidays, so it's best to arrive early to secure parking and beat the rush. Despite this, the breathtaking views and quality skiing make it a destination worth visiting. Overall, Hunter Mountain is a great choice for a winter getaway. A solid 4 out of 5 stars!

Yelp
A fine Mountain. Very social and easily accessible from NYC. Lift ticket upwards of some $90 and unless there is a lot of snow there are not a plethora of trials open so can get some congestion. Would not recommend for someone looking for a true, intense or thrilling ski experience. This is best for apre ski

Yelp
Do your research before the Fall foliage ski lift! Even if you buy reserved tickets online you must print your ticket at the ticket desk. With that being said you could buy advanced tickets and they can still shut down the ticket booth which you need to go to print. This depends on the crowd size for the day because the line can get very long. When I called at 3pm they said the line was 2 hours but it ended up being only an hour wait. The experience was worth $20 in my opinion. We visited during Fall festival weekend and it was very crowded and food prices were stadium prices (that was only the disappointment really). Parking was free and theres a ton of trails on and surrounding the resort. Great place for photo opportunities and the drive up was breathtaking. I'd love to return to hit the ski slopes!

Yelp
Came here Saturday to ski with family. Always crowded but it is one of the easiest mountain (for beginners) and closest to nyc. Lift tickets get pricer and pricer each year for all mountains unless you buy a season pass. Better to have your own equipment than wait on the long rentals lines.

Yelp
2.5 hours from New York, Hunter Mountain was perfect for a day ski trip. I gathered my friends and we left NYC at 8am for our trek there. We pre purchased our tickets online and our ski passes were mailed to us. Once we got there getting our equipment was quick and easy. The staff were very kind and helpful, there were free granola bars upon check in. I do have one complaint that was shared by my friends and I, their ski boots are extremely uncomfortable. I got my usual size 8 and she got size 7, both sizes were extremely tight around the shins. The skis themselves were great and I had a fun time whizzing down the mountain with them. Ski poles were a free for all and they did not look well maintained. I had to find matching ones because it was a hot mess pile of random heights. Bunny hill isn't so bad except the line for the magic lift is awful, there were entitled people who would fit in front of you with no remorse. The green slopes were decent, I got a few practice runs in. Bathrooms were nasty and did not look like anyone cleaned them. Overall, my experience was alright and I think I would rather go to Poconos for my next ski trip instead.

Yelp
Overall, a good ski resort. Could probably use some expansion of the parking lot which tends to get super busy during the day, especially during the weekend (hence 1 star off). High quality powdery snow which is less slushy as compared to other resorts in the area.

Yelp
Mark, Ryan and the whole staff hooked up tubing for our whole group and went the extra mile to ensure we all had a great time. Fair price. Good speed. Snow and spins. Get it!

Yelp
If you ask anyone in the east coast where is a good place to carve it up they'll tell you this spot is a good spot to go. About 2-3 hrs away from North Jersey,, depending on the traffic of course. It's not such a bad drive specially if your have someone to switch with. Anyways, let's talk about the resort. It's definitely sizable,, the runs are pretty and lengthy. Enough runs and variety to entertain us for the whole day. Green to blue to diamonds to double diamons,, there's definitely enough variety for a days worth of shredding. We also came with beginners and their bunny hills are pretty good as well. They said that the rentals and the process for getting all that done was really pleasant. Plus their instructors were really nice. Their bar and food area is really large too. Enough to accommodate everybody who came out for the day. Luckily, we came on a weekday, which means not a lot of kids or weekenders. That only means, less people and more carving for us. Anyways, I enjoyed our visit here at Hunter Mountain. It definitely was very pleasant and I would come back again if given the chance. Thank you so much for reading my review. I hope this helps. Enjoy your awesome yelptastic day!!!

Yelp
Since they have new owners this place has gone down hill faster than Jean-Claude Killy at an Olympic event. I wanted to go on the Sky-Ride. I called, they were supposedly open from 10:00 to 4:00pm . I travelled 130 miles to take the family there. I get there at 2:00pm. They closed it down because business was slow. Also their events at this venue has been lousy recently. I'm never going back.

Yelp
Great driving distance place to go for snowboarding/skiing if you live in NYC. It takes approx. 2 hrs of driving +/- traffic. I like this mountain because the trails are more advanced compared to ones found at Blue Mountain, Camelback, and Windham. You can get a good run out of the Black and Double Black Diamonds. The Belt Parkway trail is good when you are still learning and want to improve for higher level trails because the trail is long, has good degree of ups and downs, some curves, and there are some places where you can pick up some speed to conquer your fears of wiping out. The only problem with the Belt Parkway is that it can get somehow crowded and you have to become aware and slow down for safety purposes. Overall, this is a great place to go if you are not planning on going to the "Awesome" places in Vermont.

Yelp
I like Hunter, but I prefer Belleayre. It my opinion, the trails are every bit as good at Belleayre and you will have far less people. The lines still aren't too bad though! Hunter is very easy to get to, just a few hours up the Thruway from NYC. There's a good selection of Greens and Blues for the beginners/novices to work, and the trails aren't too crowded. I did a private lesson when I went to Hunter a few weeks ago and it was excellent. I gentleman I was paired up with had been teaching for over 20 years. He was incredibly helpful and gave me more confidence to continue learning on my own.

Yelp
Paid over $100 dollars for NOTHING! Lifts closed due to bad weather, everyone was called inside, lightening etc dangerous conditions and that's just fine we get it. Had to rush my family and I inside quick with the promise that we can get a voucher so we can use our passes the next day. I show up the next day and go to guest services, and they said there was NOTHING they can do. It was all a BOLD FACE LIE, we can't get a voucher and we wasted our money. No instructions were given and it seems we were hung out to dry. Amelia, the middle aged woman at the guest services desk, almost seemed to smirk at the whole situation and offered no help. I know the mountain came under new management recently and it seems their new motto is greed. AVOID AVOID AVOID.

Yelp
I haven't snowboarded for about 2 years now and the day I decide to board it rains :( The plus side of that: no lines for the lift, minimal people on the slopes, and no one to witness me and my friends tumbling down the slopes. I've been to a lot of slopes in NY/NJ/PA area and I gotta say Hunter is one of my favorite slopes for an intermediate to advanced boarder/skier. There's a lift that goes all the way to the top (killer view) with a blue trail (Belt Parkway) that's longer than other places. I've also tried one of the black trails which had a few icy spots (RIP my board), and that was also doable. My friends were confident enough to go on the terrain park. If you want a good laugh, go with them to watch (the falls). The cafeteria offers a variety of foods and drinks that's very overpriced (what's new). Expect to pay $10+ for a meal. The floor below the cafeteria has ski wear for sale, lockers (the pay per lock ones), and a bathroom. The bathroom also have a small area designated for changing purposes only as well.

Yelp
I didn't stay at the resort but I did my first ever snowboard lessons here. If I'm learning something new and there is someone to teach me, I'd typically prefer that vs. just figuring it out on my own. But I can't help but feel like these lessons were a waste. I signed up for an adult group lesson. It was at 1pm and they say to get there at least 90 min before if you are renting. Believe them when they say that because it takes a while but the people at the rental shop were super helpful and friendly. There were only 4 of us in the group lesson which was great because the instructor was able to be attentive to each of us. Our instructor was super friendly but I can't say we learned much. The entire lesson was at the very, very bottom where everyone waits for the lifts. Which would have been fine to start but we spent the whole lesson there. We spent the entire time practicing turning left and right which is necessary, but there was no instruction on slowing down, stopping, how to stay straight/actually maneuver a board down a mountain/hill. Did I expect to be able to do all of these things after an hour and a half lesson? No. But I at least thought we'd go over it. At the very end the instructor brings you on the carpet to go down the bottom part of the hill. We did one ride down per person with the instructor holding your hands and then when you got to the bottom, your lesson was over. Additionally the part where all of the newbies, children, etc we're going was a sheet of ice so it was extremely painful when you fell. (Which is all the time as as a newbie). We were also never told where the other smaller hills were. So by the end of the lesson it felt like practice on the sheet of ice or full blown mountain. I went to a nearby the following day and it felt like there was a lot more area for beginners so I'd probably recommend that to folks in the future who are just starting out.

Yelp
Since the Blizzacolypse* (or whatever the hell we're calling this thing) is headed our way tonight, it only seems fitting to review a place that only improves in such conditions. Hunter Mountain was the ideal spot to end my decade-long, self-imposed exile from the world of snowboarding. However, that was mostly because it was only a 20 minute drive from where I was staying. The Good. -The most efficient of systems for check-in/rentals. Seriously impressive. -I think this is the only instance when the question, "Do you know that you're goofy?" is inoffensive. The Bad. -I haven't encountered this many sullen teenagers since I was a sullen teenager. -Most of the food in the lodges is pretty awful. I'll never eat your ramen, Hunter. -The trails and fresh snow are both a bit limited, although it's tough to blame that on anything but the region we're in. The Ugly. -The awful stench of used snowboard boots. -The inhuman aches and pains that I now get because I'm an old man. _____________ *http://gothamist.com/attachments/nyc_arts_john/bdbgot2.jpg

Yelp
Hunter Mountain is probably one of my favorite places in New York for winter sports! For shy first-timers, Hunter is absolutely beginner-friendly. Highly recommended for newbies attempting to learn skiing and snowboarding here. Beginner Pack is a great deal that includes a two-hour lesson, a lower level lift ticket, and equipment rentals. I appreciate the fact that the place is very well organized and easy. Everything from the ticketing booth, to the lines to get snow boots and equipment, and directions pointing to different trails. From my experience, the trails are very smooth and get its share of fresh powder after a snow fall. There are tricky slopes but it's good to practice on as a newbie. Blue Trail: Belt Parkway was really fun! It is the longest trail of Hunter. As a beginner snowboarder, it's not difficult at all except for the flat areas along the trails. I highly recommend this trail to people to practice your leg power and the skills that you have learned. For experts, there are Black Diamonds and Double Black Diamonds for you, too! 3,600 feet at the highest point. I am not ready for expert so I look forward to provide an update when I finally get up there! Yes, sometimes there are crowds but because Hunter Mountain is pretty big, it leaves space for everyone to fall and get back up (please be cautious!) or zoom pass the crowds. From my experience, it gets less crowded as you advance through the trails. Food is indeed very expensive but I have to comment that the big hot dog bun was pretty dam good after a few runs! There are very few food options at the lodge but the spots higher up in the mountains are better; motivation to get up there, much? Yup!

Haroula K.

Yelp
Hunter Mountain Ski Resort was a total disappointment. The ski lodge was a total disgrace. The food selection was horrible. The cafeteria was overpriced & food was not good at all. $10 for a slice of pizza!!! Sitting in the lodge was horrific. You need a reservation to sit at a table & in 45 mins they come by to tell you , your time is up. The restaurants listed on the site were closed. There were other seating areas available, but only partially were they open , Fri- Sat. The ski trails were okay; very sub par . I would not recommend this to anyone.

Yelp
The plus side: it's close to NYC, so if you're jonesing to ski, it's not far. A skier since a very young age, so I get jonesing in the winter. The bad side: Filled to the brim with super aggressive people who don't have any control over their skis or snowboards and think speed is the only thing to concern themselves over. The mtn is narrow which makes for very little wiggle room for errors. I don't need to go back.

Yelp
Skiing ain't really my thang, but rolling green meadows, fresh air and live music most certainly are. Because of that, find me at Hunter Mt during the summer months and not, I repeat not when it's frigid outside. If my friends drag me there during ski season I'll be the gal in the lodge with her face in a spiked hot cocoa. Anyhow, I've come up to Hunter a few times over the years for their annual Mountain Jam festival. Most recently, I went this past week and had myself quite the time. I've been to a bunch of fests and Mountain Jam is probably one of the best, and a large part of that is due to the atmosphere. There's nothing better then laying out a blanket on the hill and relaxing while singing along to music and sipping on a cold brew. When you look in front of you, you'll see the large main stage. Because you're on an incline the view is always great. Look behind you and you'll see massive pine tree coated mountains, ski lifts, blue skies and sunshine. This makes for an incredible fest experience. I'll heed you one warning, brace yourself for some cold temps at night! It normally drops below 40 degrees. Because the festival involves camping and early June nights are notorious for being cold in the region, I think that this fest should be moved to July or August, and I'm sure many would agree. Regardless of a change in date, I'm sure I'll be making an appearance at Mountain Jam time and time again.

Lovetoski B.

Yelp
I've tried calling Hunter Mountain and all you get is a telephone tree. There's no way to speak to a human that is physically at the mountain. As the lodge at the top is closed, you have to go to the base lodge to use the restroom. On the North side they have Porta-potties. I tried to use one yesterday but all three were at the point of overflowing! DISGUSTING! Hey Vail Resorts, how about cleaning out the Porta-potties?

Yelp
One of my favorite ski resorts. Conditions are awesome, staff is friendly, and it's always clean.

Yelp
This place is pretty nice and organized. For the skiing, the area is always pretty busy and it takes a while to get up to the top. The trails are really nice and worth it. On some days, they can be icy but overall I enjoyed the experience. The food is good. There is a wide variety with burgers, hot dogs, salads, and occasionally ramen. The bathrooms are clean and I would definitely come back.

Yelp
We came up to Hunter Mountain for the weekend (from NYC), it was a easy drive that took 2-3 hours. We got the beginner's package since it included rental, lift tickets and lesson since one of us has never skied or snowboarded before. We came on a Saturday. RENTAL LINE: We were told that the group lesson was at 9:30 and 11:30, so we figured if we got there 30-45 mins before the lesson we will have enough time to get the gear and go...nope. There were so many lines to go on. First the line to exchange our online ticket to actual tickets. Then onto the waiver line. Then get our boots. Then line for the locker since we weren't going back outside to put our boots into the car... then helmet line. The line to get our snowboard took the longest since they had to adjust or fix every single board... Finally we got our gear and got all the equipment scanned. We didn't get outside until almost 10:30, luckily they had an extra lesson that day, so we didn't have to wait until 11:30. GROUP LESSON: The lesson was fine. The instructor was friendly and had high energy. We were a larger group of 11, so we made slow progress and had to wait our turn so we didn't crash into each other. SLOPE CONDITIONS: The slopes were icy, but that was due to the warm weather the previous days. They had the snow machines going but I think the high winds were blowing most of it away... so we had loose granular conditions... LODGE: There was very limited selection of food to choose from, typical chicken nuggets, mac n cheese, chips, hot cocoa... There wasn't that much seating so you really have to hover near anyone that is packing up or else somebody else will swoop in and take it.

Yelp
Had the best time here! the course is well maintained.. They have good deals (ladies day package on Wednesday!) so check online prior to your visit.. Ladies day package includes a lesson, lift tickets, rentals, and a $10 meal voucher.. For I believe it was $66 .. This is good especially since the lift ticket itself I think is like $55. It was freezing when we came and the slopes were kind of icy, I definitely busted my ass a few times.. We had an awesome time tho.. Came in to the bar for a break and some eats .. Basic food, fries, pizza.. Typical ... They have a few restaurants inside but they were mostly closed... Also, my friend had this amazing hot tea with cinnamon sticks in it and rum, looked amazing and it was perfect for the ice cold day. It was pretty busy in here! I recommend checking online prior to your drive if you live far to assess the conditions of the slopes .. Luckily we were okay but like I mentioned earlier .. It was super icy .. We had the best time tho.. I see they offer fun activities in the summer, we will be partaking..

Yelp
The long lines and complete incompetency means you're going to wait more than ski. Thought this as an Epic partner would be good but... go to Wyndham - they gave ticket machines and other services that lets you ski more

Yelp
I went skiing on Hunter Mountain after not having skied for 40 years. They have a deal where you can go after 4:30 at a cut rate. I think it was about $20. That was perfect for me! I went on the beginner slopes and one run down was plenty for me after so many years. It gave me an opportunity to see if I could still ski. Pur next trip ended up being in Park City, Utah. The slopes there are way more difficult. Thanks Hunter for giving me my confidence to go skiing again. The lodge was nice and the food was good after being out in the cold. This last visit we stayed right on Hunter Mountain at the Kaatskill Mountain Club. It was nice that there are lodging facilities right on the mountain. The town of Hunter also has some bed and breakfast and Mom and Pop Hotels. I think that the only downside to Hunter is the the town is getting run down. We were told that this was due to recent hurricanes. Businesses closed and did not rebuild. The nearby towns of Tannersville and Wyndham are nicer.

Yelp
First time skiing, snowboarding, and tubing with a few girlfriends. The place was big, easy to navigate, and had plenty of activities to offer. Thanks to our ski instructor Jackson, we were able to learn quickly and be on our way safely. Not sure why anyone would ski or snowboard without getting a proper lesson first. Spend the time and money instead of winging it. Worth every second and penny. Tubing was fun as well and recommended, especially if you can't partake in skiing and snowboarding. Definitely planning on another trip thanks to a great first experience.

Yelp
Poorly ran company that steals your money amidst the coronavirus. Completely unprofessional. Turning to credit card company to report fraud since my promised refund was never issued. I would not recommend giving this company your money.
google avatar

Makoto A.

Yelp
Went up with a group for snow tubing and had a blast. Tickets can sell out quickly for a 2 hr session but there is one per hour. Thought it was well maintained and wasn't overcrowded even on a weekend.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here to hike. 1) It is the second tallest mountain in the Catskills. 2) The fire tower is fantastic. 3) The overlooks are amazing: John Rabb and Geiger Point. 4) The Diamond Notch Falls is also worth the visit. 5) Excellent loop hike.

Jay G.

Yelp
Got here at noon. Won't ski until 2pm due to low staffing and inefficiencies. My recommendation is expect long wait on everything until you get out to ski on the mountain. Haven't made it out there yet

Yelp
I was really impressed by the length of my runs at Hunter! After going mostly to the Poconos for the last few years, I noticed immediately that Hunter's runs were much much longer and pleasant than Poconos mountains. The 6 person chair lift is blazingly fast, and the line moves well too. There is all kinds of slopes to be found there as well. Wide, skinny, park, blue and black diamonds were all fun and challenging. The black diamonds seemed on the easy side and so more of this mountain can be called blue, making it just right for me. They have alot of deals and discounts you can find through the website. There are a couple promotions and packages you can buy into to save alot of dough. What blew me away was comparing this mountain on Wikipedia to Mt. Snow in Vermont. For the price, this mountain is a steal! Will come back at least once a year.

Yelp
This is an amazing skiing spot for anyone not looking to travel far from NYC! The rental process was pretty efficient for a Saturday morning. You have the option to reserve your rentals online (NOTE: you can do it up to 48 hours before!) and bypass the first few steps in the process. The whole thing is very organized - basically just shuffle along and follow the signs. For rentals, you also have the option to rent Performance gear for a very slight premium. You can also get 10-15% discounts on the lift tickets if you buy them online! The cafeteria was literally a hot mess. If you have a large group, I would seriously consider eating after 2pm or else you'll find yourselves hovering over

Yelp
3.5 Stars: Here's a review for first time newbies on the slopes coming from an amateur myself. I've never been snowboarding before so this entire activity and mountain is a foreign concept to me. 1. Wifey and I bought a package online for cheap: rental equipment (helmet, boots, board), lift tickets and lessons all in one. Large parking lots as we pulled in so finding a spot wasn't an issue. Separate faster line for online reservations made the check in process quick. We got all of our equipment efficiently rotating through all the rental stations. 2. Finding the beginner lesson areas (levels 1-2) was confusing without anybody to direct us. My only issue is that lessons aren't really formal in a group setting as expected. Instructors will approach you here and there to assist (or more often if you really look like you're struggling). They'll teach you to find your balance and ride in a straight line...stopping not so much. Thanks to random YouTube videos for teaching more than these guys. 3. Magic carpet ride time! (Level 3). Easy ride up a bunny slope, strap in both feet and off you go crying and screaming down the short hill because you don't know what you're doing. I mean, I'm not trying to spend all day learning in level 1-2. Live a bit, YOLO? The only way to learn is to do it yourself. Can't say much about the lower lift (level 4) since we called it a day after Wifey wiped out one too many times and had a minor tailbone injury. Leave your personal things in your car to make your life easier. Small square rental lockers are available though for $5 cash. Lines for everything weren't too long especially since we went on a busy Valentine's Day weekend. Oh and bring your own food too. The stuff here is overpriced cafeteria food.

Yelp
This was my first time skiing. AND LET ME TELL YOU, IT WAS EXHILARATING (5/5 for the skiing) My girlfriend and I took a weekend trip up to Hunter to ski. We booked this nice place on airbnb nearby (within a 15 minute walk), and the mountain was just so beautiful. Story time: I bought tickets for friday, but we didn't realize the place closed at 4 (so early am i right?). Luckily, the staff was very nice and allowed us to ski the following saturday. So we got up super early, and were one of the first people to arrive (8:30am). The staff was super friendly and directed us to where to pick up the rental gear. Unfortunately, we had a bus to catch back to NYC at 10:21am, so we only had about a half hour to ski. One of the staff was nice enough to offer us lessons on how to ski, but we kindly declined because I wanted my first time skiing to be extraordinary. In fact, I have a super talented girlfriend who gave me some pretty good pointers on how to ski (such as making a pizza with your skis to brake). And with that, I pressured my girlfriend to take the ski lift with me (our first time going up a lift). With the advice she gave, we both skied down the easiest slope. I have to say, I was scared as a banana when it sees a monkey. Even knowing how to brake, I quickly realized that it does not brake as quickly as I'd like. it loses a star because I only skied for 30 minutes. Not Hunter Mountain's fault, but I just wish this place was closer to the city

Yelp
I'm reviewing Hunter Mountain solely for Oktoberfest being that it was going on after we were done Zip lining here early Saturday morning. First thing we did was go and grab a beer which we had the choice of light or dark and the option to purchase an Oktoberfest mug for $5 extra so we all grabbed our drinks and started to walk around and check out the scene. The beer was pretty tasty, I got the dark beer which I was surprised I liked being I drink light beer. They had a lot of food vendors and trucks all around the area. The first thing I spotted was the potato pancake & baked potato stand, went rite over and picked myself up a piping hot potato pancake with sour cream and apple sauce. MAN THAT HIT THE SPOT! Crispy exterior was a soft interior and its perfect when paired with sour cream and apple sauce. The next thing up on my list was the freshly made crepes. My brother and friend ordered one to split with fresh bananas, strawberries, nutella and a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar. This crepe was HUGE. We barely finished it. Inside the dining room they had a band playing polka music which I wasn't drunk enough to dance yet so we kept it moving and took the opportunity to take some pictures of the crew in the giant chair located smack dab in the middle of the event. They had a few attractions for a younger crowd that was nice some face painting, bounce house, and a few different carts selling scarves, sweatshirts, and pillows of all odd things. But that pillow was fabulous and I bought one lol. They had 3 alpaca on location for the stand with all things made from alpaca fur. They even had a baby one there which was adorable. They also had available the option to ride the lift to the top of the mountain for $11 but wasn't about to do that. Over all it was a cute little event which also had the option to test drive some new VW cars but you had to take a breathalyzer test and show up with 0.00 all across which none of us were able to do so we had a pro driver take us for a ride in the new GTI and the Jetta. It was pretty cool and we got a free flash light for doing the test drive. I'd def come back next year just for that potato pancake alone.

Yelp
Went on the first day of the season, when all the other local mountains were still closed. I probably would have given three stars, but the truth is, they worked hard to get up and running earlier, there were no lines, the lifts worked, the lodge was warm and I have no real complaints. I had a horrible time booking and getting a rate on their website. I suspect that at midnight, they don't give you the same rate as during the previous minute. I ended up booking a nonrefundable ticket for the next week by accident and an "unconfirmed" booking for the same day. Customer service treated my unconfirmed booking as if it was just not there or would not honor it. However, since I was not charged, they switched the ticket I paid for to one for that day, fixing the problem. It was simpler than the complexity and thought that went into reading this. Commonsense by a nice older woman at the window made the experience worthwhile. I am a fan of Camelback but I have NEVER had such a good customer service experience there. There seem to be pretty good intermediate trails.

Yelp
for New years eve weekend. Lines were not too long. But is there a reason that when its freezing and windy as hell why they are making snow? The wind just kills it with that but they have no control over it. ate the the food at the cafe for lunch mac and cheese really good, and so was the turkey and gouda panini/sandwich. Wish they had more intermediate slopes... took skiing lessons hear few years ago the lady then was really great... i just never picked it up well.. so im a snowboarder now.

Yelp
Definitely a mixed experience, here's the good & the bad: THE GOOD --Hunter is probably the biggest ski mountain this close to NYC. At the top, you get that "high altitude" feel, and there's a decent amount of trails --The mountain's snowmaking is good enough, and ski conditions get great when real snow is falling, even just a few inches --Hunter West has some fun diamond trails and is much less crowded THE BAD --The morning lines to redeem online tickets are AWFUL. It's pure chaos, the lines stretch way out of the lodge, and there's no staff people to give directions. I saw people waiting for 20+ minutes on the wrong line due to lack of clear signs & guidance. Most people buy lift tickets online these days. Hunter really needs to improve their system! --The lift lines are awful on weekends, especially when there's real snow --After 4:00pm, when the slopes are closed, there's a MASSIVE TRAFFIC JAM of people trying to leave the resort. It's a series of bottlenecks and so poorly planned. We spent a half hour stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic just trying to get out! Amazing that a ski resort can't plan for this & build their infrastructure accordingly. --Overall, they seemed a bit short-staffed. Nobody to help & direct people on the ticket lines. Nobody to direct traffic in their monster traffic jam. But there were people to charge us $13 for a small bowl of ramen noodles at the cafeteria. ;-(

Yelp
Came here with friends because we usually do the Irish fair that's held on Staten Island . This was called the Celtic Festival. We got there early and stayed for mass that was held in the main tent. After that trekked around the area, which looks way different without snow, and checked out the sites. It was nice but there wasn't many vendors selling Irish ,Celtic,Nordic wares . Instead it was filled with lots of fried foods of every kind like you were in a carnival. One of the highlights was the bagpipe competition which we enjoyed and went on for a while. Me and my bud took the lift to the top of the mountain ($12.00) which I enjoyed the view . Watched zip-liners doing they're thing . Everything is over priced and is just another tourist trap and no real heritage what so ever for which I was disappointed. Had a corned beef sandwich which was $10 bucks had 3 slices of corned beef and hard potato chips. Not even fries. Wife had to send hers back 2x because she can't eat nuts or seeds and they kept bringing the sandwich with caraway seeds. Glad I went but thought it would be a lot better.

Yelp
Small-Medium size mountain, the "Belt Parkway" is a nice laid back ride with an incredible view. You must do this trail at least once. There are some steeper blacks, double blacks and a pretty awesome free style park. About 2.5 hrs from NYC, I suggest a multi-day trip if you're going to drive up from the city. I don't know any good places to stay around Hunter unfortunately, I stay with a cousin who lives about 10 minutes away when I go up. You can get deals on passes throughout the year, I paid $139 for a card with 3 tickets (use any day) and it came with 2 bring a friend tickets, where your +1 only pays about $20-30 or something close to that. I ended up getting 2 cards, for me and my girlfriend. We've bought 2 friends along with us this year so far who wanted to learn to snowboard. They have a very decent learning area, from a very flat, short hill and a carpet ride for people who need to start out at the very, very basics and then even a short lift that gives them a few hundred feet of slope to get them moving towards riding some of the greens and blues at hunter. The workers always seem very friendly and happy, the peeps at the lifts are always engaging and helpful. Without driving to far out of the way it's an awesome mountain! If you're looking at spots closer to the city, Hunter is worth the extra travel!

Yelp
Not reviewing this place for the skiing... We took a trip to Hunter Mountain this weekend for the German Alp Festival (should be called Oktoberfest in August) They have a couple of vendors most of which were crappy, they kind of make it feel like a bad flea market. There was one vendor selling Leiderhosen, which depending on how much you drink might come in handy! Besides that the rest of the "festival" was pretty good. They have a huge tent set up where the German Oompah bands play and a couple of beer tents with plenty of awesome German brew on tap. They have plenty of good german eats Where else can you get up close and personal with an 18 time Grammy winner?? Local Legend, Jimmy Sturr and his Orchestra were rocking the main tent from 3 to 4. We will definitely be going back next year!

Yelp
Three stars because I had fun regardless . Renting equipment sucked they gave us the wrong equipment luckily the guy figured it out and tried to correct it. Took forever for him to do so. The first guy giving us a lesson was GOD AWFUL. he didn't teach us much or do much of anything. The next few guys were ok and taught us some decent moves. But they never paid attention , guy just filled his quota to get ppl moving forward and didn't notice anything. I never say this but got a bit of a racist vibe here . The whole experience sucked and I stopped having fun. The staff members don't care. So we left on our own. The next guy was much better and redeemed the experience for us. So hopefully u get a good instructor at the beginning . Think it really makes a difference on your experience. And I wish some of the staff was better

Yelp
Fun time learning how to ski! Instructors are patient and welcoming. Hill was great, even with man made snow. Overall a great time. Bar was also fun. They had coffee and hot chocolate ready and we had some hot and spiked drinks. Fun day out!

Yelp
Everyone here was very helpful and accommodating! Had an amazing time that day! I ate at the "colonel's hall and base lodge". I had a veggie pita and it was sooooo delicious! Took a break in between and stayed by the bar. Everyone here is absolutely friendly! I had an awesome bartender. He knew exactly what I wanted and needed to conquer the cold temps that day! Prefect resort for beginners to experts!

Yelp
Basing this on Customer service alone this place is awful! Joan is beyond rude and condescending. She doesn't belong in the customer service industry. The ski resort is barely a 3 star. The lifts ending at 4p poses a problem and you can't take advantage of the entire day. It's over crowded and overpriced. Please look to ski somewhere else.

Yelp
A truly beautiful, mystical place. Can't wait for the snow to melt so I may hike it yet again. Just thinking about my many adventures there makes my heart smile with joy. The flowers and summer atmosphere are lovely! And the autumn colors are amazing (riding the ski lift during these times is a must in order to experience the true magic of this place). There is also a fire tower along the hike which overlooks the nearby mountains. Along our hike we found many geodes and crystals as well! So amazing :) PS: I have yet to see a bear but be warned we did find paw marks in the mud.

Yelp
If it was possible i would give this mountain 0 stars. The staff are slow and mean. People are constantly yelling and have an attitude. The mountain is only open from 9-4 but they fail to tell you that 2 hours of your time will be spent standing in line. Absolutely the worst mountain and snowboarding experience of my life. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR YOUR MONEY COMING HERE!!!!
