Huntington State Beach was amazing. Our family visited on July 31, 2025; and we loved everything about it. As a State Beach, it was what you'd expect: friendly state staff (parks and beaches often have friendly, helpful staff, decent prices ($15/day parking) and we'll maintained facilities. The natural side of this location was also stunning. Large beaches with lots of sand to handle thousands and thousands of guests, and better waves than many other beaches in the area. Overall, an amazing beach that is 100% worth the visit.

This beach is a true coastal gem, known for its sparkling clean sands and crystal-clear waters. It's incredibly well-maintained, offering a safe and relaxing environment for everyone. Along the shore, there are volleyball courts where people gather to play under the sun, adding energy and fun to the atmosphere. Rescue teams are always on duty, ensuring safety for swimmers and peace of mind for families. A wide, well-paved walking path runs parallel to the beach—perfect for morning jogs, leisurely strolls, or walking your pet while enjoying the fresh sea breeze. Palm trees sway gently in the wind, and the air carries the calming scent of saltwater and sunscreen. Whether you're looking to unwind, play, or simply watch the waves roll in, this beach offers the perfect escape.

We spent three peaceful mornings at Huntington Beach for a kids’ boogie board camp and had a great time as a family. The camp was held near the Huntington Beach volleyball courts. Daily parking is $15 with re-entry allowed, but if you have a California Explorer Pass, entry is free. The beach was calm and quiet early in the day—perfect for a relaxing walk along the sand.

Very nice walking spot as well as to see the beautiful scenery of ocean view! Everything is very bright if the weather permits and it’s feeling amazing being there! Come visit and enjoy nature! Cheers

Huntington Beach truly offers a fantastic experience for a family day out! I absolutely love coming here because it consistently has ample parking spots, which makes our arrival so much smoother. The restroom and shower stations are always clean and in working order, a huge plus when you have kids. My little one has a blast here, spending hours happily playing in the sand and enjoying the waves. It's also a great spot to watch the surfers, which adds to the vibrant atmosphere. Highly recommend Huntington Beach for a fun, hassle-free beach day!

Google
Plenty of parking, nice clean beach. Long bike path that runs along the coast and connects the piers. There are for pits available, first come basis. Great beach for a get together and a bbq/picnic.

Google
Beautiful beach and not super crowded. Sand is not quite as white as what I’m used to in Florida but still beautiful. The sunsets here are spectacular

Google
Beautiful and clean beach. Not much people were there the day we went. I like how they have bike lanes along the coast so you can bike without worrying about traffic, and even closer to the beach there is a paved road to walk/run. It’s super nice when you want to be close to the beach without getting your feet all sandy Love this place :))

Yelp
What a perfect California day at Huntington Beach. Our friends are moving away next week so they threw a bon voyage bonfire here for all of us to hang out and say goodbye sort of. Such a beautiful day, the parking lots were all so packed but we found parking in handicap and used the wagon to drag everything to the bonfire, it was close to the canal which was nice and close to the bathrooms. I love this beach we have been coming here since forever, so many awesome memories. Met some new friends, the kids got to play in the water. We all brought food and snacks and had a gazebo, tent, and lots of food and snacks for everyone. We had a great time, lots of playing and so many people at all the bonfires. Our friends got there early and so we had to share the pit with another family which was so nice of them and when they left it was all ours. We had a lot of fun together, everyone around us was playing good music and having fun. When the sun went down and it got dark a whole bunch of decked out bicycles road by like burningman style with so many lights and lots of rave music it was awesome. Of course we had to check it out the kids loved it we did too. What a fun surprise I got some videos and pictures of that too. Huntington beach is one of the best beaches around, it's not as clean as it used to be but it's still so beautiful and peaceful. Back in the day us and a bunch of our friends used to ride the entire beach from Newport to Huntington every single weekend for so many years. Awww such awesome memories, now we get to make memories with our beautiful kids at this amazing beach. Have a beautiful day, love that everyone is so friendly here.

Yelp
This state beach is simple, clean & fun. HB has fire pits, RV parking for a minimal fee, & couple of restaurant near the parking area. I had never been there before & I loved it very simple but comfortable, and next time I'll take my RV to spend my entire day at the beach. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
not the cleanest or prettiest, but one of my fav beaches further down the beach, there's a lot of volleyball nets & some outdoor seating (had a bonfire here!) pacific city & the other stores nearby make this a super awesome place to hang out with friends

Yelp
CLEAN BEACH w/ SPACIOUS WALKWAYS! I've been coming to Huntington State Beach for many years now and have visited for car shows, shopping, and beach days. I've had a lot of fun and enjoy the views each and every time. Some days are better than others, the visitors and (some) locals are very annoying at this beach and can get extra obnoxious. I've spotted a few OC Karens (as you do) but my most recent visit was surprisingly peaceful. I came with my family and we walked the beach path. There's plenty of shacks that offer food and drinks. I noticed Huntington State Beach got a bit of a remodel to its buildings and a fresh coat of paint to spruce up the area. Parking is $14 dollars if you're a senior! How do I know this? I came with one! I came during a Friday afternoon and it was surprisingly calm. People were getting ready for Wango Tango, a popular outdoor concert hosted by a local radio station. There was a ton of trailers and staff working the stage but they never obstructed the beach or walkways. They were super respectful.

Yelp
This is our usual beach to go to with family. $15 for all day parking and $20 on major holidays. The public restrooms here are disgustingly smelly. If you really have to use it ... just make sure to bring sanitizing spray or some sort of air freshener. They also don't provide hand soap to wash your hands... so bring your own just in case.

Yelp
I just have to say, I love having this as my backyard! It doesn't get much better than this for a sunset. My doggy Maverick loves the sand and the sun. And I'm a real sunset type of girl! Just another beautiful day in paradise!

Yelp
Beach is always clean, well maintained and best part: hardly anyone around from November through late March Main Street/pch right by the Pier gets crowded so plan on leaving early to find parking (usually a few spots along pch that is pay on meter). Weather is pretty much the same year round *Pro-tip: grab a sandwich and a drink on your way down to the beach at Massimos on the corner of Brookhurst and Bushard st. (Same post as on google reviews)

Yelp
NICE BIKE RIDE ! My wife and I headed up this way on Sunday for a bike ride along the boardwalk. We parked our wheels around 1pm at a state parking lot for $15. After unloading our eBikes from the tow hitch bike rack on my wife's Tesla Y we set off along the boardwalk beside the beach. We took pics along the way of an Osprey and a Juvenile Red-Tailed Hawk. After riding about 9 miles we stopped to grab some lunch at a popular beachside eatery in Bolsa Chica State Beach. Then it was an easy ride back to the car and a 30 minute drive home ! NOTE - Of course with over 22 million views of my Yelp reviews and pics world wide in 2022 I can tell you what is great !

Yelp
Convenient parking although the attendant had an attitude today when taking our $20. I had forgotten to make a transfer from savings and it took 30 seconds, no cars behind me. The attendant made a comment "I hope you can afford the parking" as I quickly transferred on my app. Haha coming from a kid who doesn't even make enough in an hour to pay the parking here

Yelp
Huntington State Beach is located in the City of Huntington Beach in Orange County. The 121 acre state beach is a popular destination for water enthusiasts of all ages and draws hundreds of thousands of visitors year round. Huntington in a great place to surf, swim, sunbathe, fish or just watch the sun set.

Yelp
Pacific Air Show, brought the boyz here, because we love the sounds, the speed , the sight the aviation show/stunts. We can never get enough! Luckily, we brought our bikes since we new we were going to park far because we came at a much later time 1:00pm For being free, it was an awesome show. These pilots are super talented! It is an honor to be here, and see their talent! AND as always, The Blue Angels are amazing! They didn't have booths where you can buy souvenirs, get on the aircrafts, salute some pilots, explore , see law enforcement helicopters or participate in other activities that kids like, like the air shows in MCA station in Miramar! However here we weren't disappointed, we love our military and grateful for them! Love America! Proud to be an American! And always a big thank you to our military for their service and for making America great!!!! And hope America becomes Great Again! Just like our founding fathers made it for us!

Yelp
I used to live in HB for 15 years. My life and times have changed and I moved to LA County. But after a car show in La Mirada, we made the drive down Beach Boulevard in the Jeep with no doors and no top to spend the rest of the afternoon on the sand at HB. The drive down Beach got cooler and cooler and I had to break out the jackets and blankets for the kids until we got to Sonic (where my boys wanted a snack). The sun played peekaboo between the clouds while the marine layer started to lift. We turned right onto PCH and were lucky enough to land a spot on PCH right in front of the Hyatt. I didn't take out our beach blanket or umbrella since it was later in the afternoon and the kids really wanted to ride their scooters more than anything else. My 4 year old was so excited and ran on the sand towards the water. I cautioned my kids about the water bacteria level warnings and told them we were only playing on the sand this time. My 9 year old stayed on the bike path and rode his scooter up and down next to where we were sitting in the sand and my other boys were having a great time running around and collecting shells and making volcanoes. My wife sat on my lap for a while and used me as a chair and we snuggled as a mild wind tousled her long dark tresses about. It was a wonderful end to a long day that started with a car show where my father-in-law showed some of his cars to a stop at a local drive in restaurant to a leisurely drive down Beach and on PCH in a topless and doorless Jeep. My boys want to come back again, soon, this time with a picnic lunch, their sand toys, chairs, a blanket and a canopy. Not much for them, but a ton for me to carry, as usual... But for a day on the beach with my family, I wouldn't have it any other way. And a day in HB, makes it even better...

Yelp
Nice day for a walk at the beach So told Hubby I wanted to go see the rare Jellyfish showing up on the shores of California and boy did we find these beautiful but Smelly creatures ************************************** They were in the Thousands - You might have noticed blue jelly-like creatures washing up on shore in Huntington Beach and the South Bay. Well, here's what we found out about them. Though they're more commonly known as by-the-wind sailors because of their sail-like tops, their scientific name is Velella Velella.

Yelp
This beach is huge and is very popular. Today we came around 1:00pm (Saturday) and there was no parking. We tried several lots. It took us 2 hours to get a space. We needed to park close to the beach because we had a lot to unload. I think Huntington Beach should invest in a remote parking lot with trolley service much like Laguna Beach does for the Pageant of the Masters. 2 hours is too long to find a parking space. Even the street parking is limited. The beach itself is nice. They have fire pits and a nice bike path. Other than the fact that it's super crowded and parking is atrocious, Huntington Beach is a decent beach. Just get there early in the morning to set up.

Yelp
Bummed we came on a gloomy day but we were still impressed with this beach. It's a beautiful area around Huntington so we enjoyed everything. It was $20 to park for the whole day. We definitely got our steps in and enjoyed seeing all the people riding their bikes, surfing and having their BBQ's. As we were leaving we saw a bunch of people starting their fire pits! We will definitely be back soon to this area and spend lots of time on this beach.

Yelp
Beautiful, well maintained State Beach staffed by State Lifeguards - some of the best! Parking is ample and your statewide park/beach access passes are also accepted here. Perfect view of the sunset in the evening between San Pedro and Catalina Island from the beach. Located just below Huntington (City) Beach. Easy driving distance from nearby Huntington Beach restaurants. Beautiful walking/running/riding path along the beach, well maintained and safe.

Yelp
I grew up near this beach and went often as a kid. The beach itself needs a darn good cleaning nowadays! I did not go on the pier or thru the shopping areas but we just stayed by the crashing waves. Clean it up! Too many slobs here.
google avatar

Ripcalifornia ..

Yelp
Please make a pass line for entrance. There's 2 lanes at every gate and it's never used. Makes no sense. Would incentivize people to buy more passes and make it more efficient. Classic state run organization
google avatar

Yelp
Huntington Beach has been my go to beach since I was a kid. A lot nicer then the beaches we have in LA. Parking is $15. Plenty of parking, just need to find a good spot. I love that they have fire pits. They get taken by 8 am on weekends so make sure you go early if you want one. Pretty busy on weekends, but people space themselves pretty well. Sand is clean, water is cleaner then LA. Restrooms are iffy. You can fly kites.

Yelp
Best place to grab a bonfire is at the Brookhurst street light off PCH Highway. My photos are at that area off Brookhurst Street. It's the 1st entrance beginning of HB from Newport Beach. There is a booth to Pay for parking before you enter. This area of HB is far from the pier and the crowds if you want to avoid that. One of the bathrooms is currently under construction. Only a few porter potties were available in the front. There were showers spray too near the restroom. We got here around 3:30 p.m. after coming from Newport Beach. Was looking for a bonfire pit but NB doesn't have any bonfire pit. Only area of NB w pits is towards Balboa island and was inform there were only 40 pits available unlike HB have hundreds. Lifeguard says best bet is to head to HB if you want to grab a bonfire pit. Since it is 1st priority. Good thing i took the lifeguards advice. We were able to get one. Within an hour, people were coming and grabbing the pits pretty fast. The pit we grab was a good walking distance from the beach. The area near the pier and Main Street off HB can get pretty packed especially during the summer & weekends. They do have random talented performances on the pier and sometimes a farmers local Market near the pier. Beach closes at 10 p.m. Lots of parking available. Gate for the booth where you enter closes at 9 p.m. though FYI

Yelp
What more can you ask? A beautiful beach, a fresh breeze, friendly people. I love to walk here in every kind of weather.
google avatar

Yelp
This beach was pretty much our only consistent outdoor activity location this past summer during the Pandemic. We used to go here every Wednesday after Ian's school. Entry is a breeze. Parking is plentiful. We spent couple of Hour each time we were here. We parked near the Beach Blvd entrance. The beach is huge. In spite of that, there were lifeguards stationed at multiple locations along the beach. During each of our visits, there were a lot of families who were availing themselves to the beautiful summer conditions. Kids as well as parents were maintaining distancing with nearby groups in a safe manner. (+2) This will surely be a weekday destination of ours in the future.

Yelp
There happens to be 3 different Huntington Beach (HB) on Yelp. So here we go again... HB is a fantastic beach. It's usually a pretty clean beach. Tons of people sightseeing, riding bikes, people watching, laying out buck naked LOL, all sorts of fun and exciting stuff going on, etc. I know sometimes events are held at HB just like the 2022 Van's Open recently. They say "Life's a beach". I need to get out to the beach more often than not... I love the fresh crisp air, open breeze, smooth winds... makes me want to do my 1 hr+ drive to the beach right now LOL. Before summer ends, I'll plan for a weekend at HB. Thanks for reading! I'll see you at the beach! Happy HB'ing!

Yelp
It is my backyard so to speak. I wouldn't live anywhere else. The weather is always nice. Everyone from the IE & LA flocks here rain or shine. We are a community of singles, families and young families. Safe to say all locals are all dog lovers. Our beaches are clean and we want to keep them that way. So anything you bring (bbq, cooler, couch, umbrella, cigarettes, cans, trash, dog poop, etc) please take back with you or use the proper trash reciprocals. Don't leave it in the sand. It makes for eye sores and really pisses us locals off. Parking is easy and plenty. Unless you go to dog beach. Those parking lots are small and few. Parking comes at a cost. Both state and city beaches. $15-$20 all day, cash only. If you are going to take your bike like your motorized bike. Be aware children and dogs will jump out in front of you. Go the speed limit and don't be a dick on the bikes. And don't take them on the beach. Especially Dog beach! Their not allowed for one. And two you will run over a dog. I've seen it happen. So don't do it. Also... dogs are to be ON LEASH AT ALL TIMES when on the boardwalk. Safety for all leash up the pet. Especially the one that lacks recall. My dog is friendly but he doesn't like to be ran up on. And He has decided he doesn't like his peers around his pack. Therefore I stay far from dog beach for our daily walks. So please keep your dogs on leash for us dog walkers that stay on this side of the boardwalk for a reason. All we ask when you visit that you enjoy it and respect our beaches and city.
google avatar

Emily L.

Yelp
It can get really crowded and their parking lot fee is $20 with no re-entry. They do have a lot of fire pits and volleyball ball nets but it can be a hassle trying to get a spot or maybe you'll get lucky. The restrooms are gross but useable if you have to go. Imagine a flushable port-a-potty with no light when you close the door and random toilet paper on the ground. At least the flush is a foot petal. There's also a washing station but no soap where you can rinse off after going into the water. I can't say Huntington Beach does anything more than provide the basics and it's up to you to bring the rest. A source of shade like an E-Z Up is highly recommended. Try to come early to snag a fire pit and expect hundreds of people. At least we're all socially distanced?

Yelp
Huntington Beach always brings back memories for me. When I was younger, my friends and I used to spend our summers here. No worries in the world but to work on our tans and munch on their famous tortilla strips and red sauce. Today my husband and I love to go bicycling on our beach cruisers starting at Huntington down to Newport and back.
google avatar

Matthew R.

Yelp
Out of the OC beaches, Huntington is one of the best and the most family friendly! However, being one of the most popular comes with a lot of pros and cons. Pros: Great parking situation! There are about 3-4 lots to park in. The cost is only about $20, which isn't bad! However, let's say you don't not want to pay that much, there are a ton of street parking and about 2 structures. So you'll never have to worry about spending a lot of your time driving around, looking for parking. Cons: During the summer months it is super crowded. Tourists, locals, you name it. So with a lot of people there are a lot of lines and waiting when you want to grab food or ultimately do anything. Moreover, there is a small homeless problem, so that is something that some people may have to be concerned about. Overall Huntington is 4/5 and still recommend this beach to anyone!
google avatar

Shauna G.

Yelp
This wasn't one of the nicest beaches we've been to, but gave it a few stars because our littles had a blast. First time we've ever been and it was a madhouse with he HB sand soccer tournament running. We had to arrive a few hours prior to even get decent parking, we were also unaware we had to pay for parking, but no big deal. We paid for the convenience, but there is limited street parking if you're lucky enough. The only issue I had was the line set up coming in was not optimal. First day there was a guy collecting cash payments at the front, yet we still had to wait in the long line to get in because we were stuck behind all the vehicles waiting to make card payments at the gate. I'm hoping the beach isn't always so trashy and it was just because of the event running, the bathrooms were beyond filthy, but the port-a-potties provided by the event were surprisingly clean and maintained. The coolest part was watching the lifeguard training, the food trucks at the event and watching our kiddo play in the tournament!

Yelp
A very fun beach, if you follow these suggestions.. 1. Yes, the state beach costs $15 to park ($25 some holidays) but the riffraff (909ers) mostly go to the public Huntington beach up north by the pier. 2. If you're a cheapskate and only have one cart of beach equipment you can park along Brookhurst for free and walk to the beach. 3. Weekends are crowded but there was plenty of elbow room on the beach down by the Santa Ana Jetty. Park in the Brookhurst parking lot. 4. If you're here on a busy summer weekend be sure to arrive before 10AM. By 11AM they had closed all of the parking lots. 5. The jetty water comes from the estuary, not from the Santa Ana river. This scares most people away so take advantage of the light crowds.
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
I just love the beach and Huntington is one of my favorites. On an early Saturday morning the crowd is not large and you have your space. The sunrise is nice and not too hot. Go for a walk barefoot in the water or walk in the sand. Beach volleyball is on point. Come to the beach and relax. Set a different tone to your week.
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
First time here last week with family celebrating graduations and birthdays and loved the low key vibe of this beach...definitely not super crowded like Newport etc...family had an amazing day just chilling, throwing a frisbee, football, adult cocktails it was a great day. Plus having 4 daughters and a wife they have clean bathrooms that are very easy to use all to from the beach. But in case you can't make it the ocean can be your oyster lol very good experience with lots of parking all around.

Linda N.

Yelp
Don't ride your bike this weekend on the multiuse trail. I came upon a crowd of 50 pedestrians on the trail at the dog event at PCH and beach. They were blocking the multiuse trail and I was unable to successfully ride slowly on the shoulder. I almost injured a person. I ended up colliding with a bike. The state doesn't do anything to address, the multiuse trail and manage the crowds. I address my complaint, not only with the Huntington Beach State magnolia headquarters, but also with a peace officer to alert them to this nightmare on the trail. They could've easily put a rerouting of people using the multiuse trail around the event so that no one would get hurt. The state is liable as they've done nothing to manage the crowd on the multiuse trail.

Vuoch L.

Yelp
Today we were between tower 9-10 closest to tower 10 .. on this section of the beach there is no walk way path directly to the sand. You would need to trek through the sand to the water . Have a slight drop / incline of sand to the water..
google avatar

Joseph T.

Yelp
I just love coming here with the family. Parking is super easy. You pull up and pay your $15 bucks and ur in! Plenty of parking, they have plenty of restrooms and rinse stations. Note/tips: if you come on a major holiday, arrive early (early!!) if you really want a non fire pit. Those will go fast! On a normal weekday or early on weekend, they are usually still available. Other than that, my kids love to play in the sand. Tip/hunt: To catch some sand crabs as the waves drift off the sand, look for the little half circle dip! That means they are underneath!! We also suggest you to bring food/snacks with ya, so you can stay even longer!! Chips soda snacks etc. stay hydrated! Our last trip, my family and I even grilled carne asada! With my home made fire pit grill setup. Check out the pictures haha! Enjoy
google avatar

Tommy V.

Yelp
Nice beach for walking. If you are only staying for an hr or two you better off paying for the meters outside for like $2 an hour. They accept quarters and cards depending on meters. Other than that it's $15 to park the whole day. You can probably find some street parking deep in the side streets if you don't mind walking even further. You are already walking on the beach so what's another few thousand steps? There's bike rental as well. Don't think I see too many people swimming here. Water is pretty cold.
google avatar

Laura N.

Yelp
You wonder what on earth I do? Well, hear you go! Most of the time the actual beach is clean and the locals (me) are out on their early walk or run. It is only on the weekends that others are visiting. During the week it is a way better visit. No one is around especially in the mornings. After Labor Day weekend I could not help but to notice the trash left behind. Was it booze? No! Not really I found many soda cans and many water bottles. Anyhow this is my new backyard and I love it! Bond fires are available upon arrival. A pretty price to enter with your vehicle but they do offer year passes. It is so worth the year pass! They offer disabled discounts! $10 for disabled an for the general public $15 No absolute In-or-Outs for NOTHING! Ones you live the parking lot you will have to pay again. Plastic is accepted! Otherwise be ready with your cash to expedite your transaction. Otherwise the line will get really long. So please be ready with $15! or card ready! Kid friendly and dog friendly! Wild at heart friendly! We welcome them all!

Yelp
This is such a nice beach to come to. Today I came because I wanted to chill at the fire pits and it was really fun. Make sure that if you want a fire pit that you get there early like 7 or 8 because people do come early to reserve them. The beach is nice and clean. The bathrooms are dirty and when I went only like 2 were working which sucked. Pros -Beach is clean -Lots of security -Tons of fire pits Cons -Bathrooms are dirty -Half the bathrooms work

Ed E.

Yelp
***Pre/During COVID-19 Visit*** Fun beach to go to! I've been coming here for years even though I moved out of state and came back. Plenty of parking, but it does get packed quick. Also, if you have the distinguished veterans pass, then your parking is FREE of charge! Now for the beach, it is pretty cold, but it's the summer so you'll get used to it quick. It's still a good time regardless. You'll see people of all kinds, but don't be an idiot and feed the seagulls. If you want a better picture of the pier during sunset, go to the other side of the beach, not the state side. There are fire pits as well if you enjoy bonfires. We'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Paul I.

Yelp
This is such a cool beach with plenty of activity. It's so close to Main Street which has a bunch of restaurants. The beach is clean with a bunch of lifeguards. I love that there are so many bathrooms available and they are usually pretty clean because every time I come I always see some park official keeping them clean.
google avatar

LaVang B.

Yelp
It doesn't get any better than this! I am from the east coast so my beaches are filled with resorts and are always packed full. The beach here is clean and a trash can is always accessible. Not to mention, there are no fire pits where I am from either! My cousins and I wanted to have bonding time before my family went back home; so, we all thought, why not have a bonfire on the beach?! We prepared the whole morning to by our food and supplies and were able to find a pit on a Sunday evening (which is apparently rare, I'm told the pits get filled fast!) We made the classic s'mores and even managed to use our hot firewood to heat up a kettle of water to use for instant ramen (highly recommend instant ramen on the beach). The parking is accessible and reasonable and I liked that there were officials that drove down the beach to notify guests that the beach was closed for the night (10:00pm). I will definitely want to come again whenever I am back in the area!

Yelp
Fun beach for a group bonfire! Clean and easy to park. Parking fee is $18-a little steep

Yelp
Not to be confused with Huntington City Beach, this state beach stretches two miles from Beach Boulevard southeast to the Santa Ana River Channel. If you're looking for a huge beach with plenty of space for you to spread out, look no further. If you surf, I'm sure you don't need me to tell you what a great spot HSB is. The website warns novice surfers that the sandbars create dangerous conditions during the spring and summer. Interesting, because I've taken surfing lessons at the City Beach during the spring and summer! Could there be a major difference between the two beaches? Anyway, I guess it's something to keep in mind. Do you like bonfires? How do 200 fire rings sound? If you're sensitive to smoke, subtract a star from my review. Alcohol is not permitted, and I've seen this enforced. They seem to target groups of young people. Be discreet. Maybe other controlled substances would be a better choice? Parking is $15. Consider a CA State Parks membership: http://www.calparks.org/membership We once used a Groupon and got a great deal. Now, we park on Beach or Brookhurst and walk. Keep in mind that parking hours on Brookhurst end at 8 pm. Oh, yeah, the bike path. Look both ways before you cross. Some bikers ride too fast. This is my wife's and my favorite place for sunset beach walks. Because the beach is so enormous, it never gets crowded, especially off-season. I was just about to type that taking in the awesome vastness of the Pacific Ocean is one of the reasons that I love living in OC when I felt a 4.2 earthquake. Now that I think about it, we were on our way to a bonfire on my birthday when one hit. Yeah, I'm originally from the East Coast. No, I am not afraid!

Yelp
One of the few beaches that's actually open during the COVID-19 shelter in place. People can walk and bike through the beach front using the pedestrian pathway. Saw a few people surfing the ocean waves in late April 2020 but the beach is pretty bare, with everyone social distancing. No parking allowed at any meters or parking lots. Most of the people using the beach are prolly locals living close by enough to walk or bicycle there without having to park a car. Beach was relatively clean & nice on a sunny day!

Yelp
I've been coming here since I was a kid, mostly boogie boarding as a pre-teen. We used to park on the main street for free, really early in the morning and walk to the beach. I didn't check if you could still do that now, because now I pay to park in the lot, lol. Good job, people- we have managed to keep this beach clean, and it's just gorgeous to kind of drive by during pandemi and see it empty.

Yelp
By far, my family's favorite beach. Every summer, my mom's side of the family has a giant lobster bake family gathering. I drive in for the occasion about every other year, and though we were originally down by the pier, we've moved all the way down to the other end these days- less hassle with parking and securing a fire pit. Over the years, parking pricing has gone up- it's now $15/car but they do have (relatively clean) bathrooms, frequent patrols, and rental stands spaced out for anything you may have forgotten. Plan ahead and come early if doing a group event or wanting your own fire pit!

Yelp
Been coming here for 38 years. I've seen the evolution of growth and while I miss the old nostalgic casual beachy feeling it used to have, it is still a great beach to visit for a variety of reasons. There are high end restaurants and places to eat where you can have sand on your feet. Lots of shopping and sight seeing. I love that there are tons of weekly and weekend entertainment too and it's all outside! The beach itself is famous so this place is almost always a bit crowded. The bike path is really long so an excellent place to walk or bike ride. Surfing, boogie boarding, skim boarding, body surfing, or making sand castles- it's all here. One of th best beaches in so cal

Yelp
Definitely my favorite beach in California. I am a bit biased because I have had nothing but times out here. You get here and you can play beach volleyball. You can get surf lessons. You can just get right into the ocean. Great restaurants nearby. It's always clean out there. I highly recommend this beach.

Yelp
With so many beautiful beach choices in orange county, it's so hard to choose one! When bringing the family to the beach for an all day beach experience, that ends with roasting marshmallows by a fire pit, Huntington beach is probably one of the best options! Not to mention the beach is gigantic and the sunsets are magical! Family memories for a lifetime!

Yelp
Review if you only want a fire pit and more. Went on a Saturday 7/12/19 and I arrived at 7:30am and all the fire pits but 4 were still available. My friend and I reserved two of them and an half an hour later the other two were taken. So people WAKE up early this is no joke people get here early! With summer and tourist and or just you wanting to have fun at the beach and light that fire up you need to get here early. By 10am people were still looking for a firepit but none were available. Parking was $15 bucks and lot was empty at that time. Also people come set up stuff and leave I believe if you are not there holding your ground then yes other people should be able to take over your pit. I saw people move other people's stuff. Of course keep in mind this may lead to an altercation. But people will move your stuff if you leave. I just took a blanket and took a mini map and read a book after. If you do not get a pit no worries so many people bring canopies and umbrellas and set up anywhere and still have fun. I had a blast with friends, getting in the water, making burgers, playing football and listening to our music on a speaker. Restrooms are disgusting and there is NO SOAP bring your own and if you go to the restroom later in the evening to night the floors are covered in urine and toilets are clogged I just walked across the street. On my google maps I just entered Huntington Beach Coal Fire Pits and it led me to the pits. also the beach officers, police, security start asking people to leave around 9pm but 10pm is that you must be out. They just go around saying start packing up and still enjoy yourself just be ready to be out by 10pm.
