Zero stars. Avoid at all costs. I stayed in the Big Tree Cabin. Online represents it as a luxury 4 star resort, but it's all a sham. The road to get in is a dirt road, which is to be expected, but what's not expected or disclosed is that the gradient is 30-45 degrees and required a 4WD or very good AWD. Lucky I was in a Nissan Patrol that can handle that. Other cars won't make it and if it was wet I wouldn't even try it in a good 4WD. There is no-one at reception to check you in. Just a piece of paper with your name and a drawn mud map to try and where to go. There is a phone number to call for assistance, but there is no mobile coverage to use to make a call. The cabin was very worse for wear. Damaged carpet, damaged doors (fly screen missing and left outside, missing handles and locks that don't function properly). The shower floor felt like you might fall through. The composting toilet is stained and smells (there was old poo stuck to the inside of the bowl). The outside bath, which online looks romantic, is very dirty and on a deck that looks like it hasn't been maintained well, and I don't think a structural engineer would sign off on it as safe. There are no electrical outlets to use because they have been replaced with low voltage outlets that use different plugs, so forget about charging any devices. The linen did not look clean for sleeping so I used my own sleeping bag and pillow. Cooking is by gas, which would have been fine if the was gas in the bottles. 4 bottles, but all empty. One of the two dining chairs was broken. Cobwebs everywhere. Worse place I've ever stayed. Essentially they are stealing your money and not delivering on what is adverised. Do not stay here. You are better of sleeping in your car.

We stayed in one of the campervan sites, it was in a good location, my family and I had privacy and peace. The bathroom blocks were pretty good, shower water was nice and hot (unless there was someone in the bath), although the girl's toilet needed a clean! The camp kitchen was lovely, there were dishes to use, an oven and stove, a sink, as well as tables, couches, a fireplace, and an area for charging devices! The wildlife was active, we saw plenty of pademelons and their babies. The possums must have been hungry, because they kept trying to break into our Esky. They were very ingenious and persistent, but the kids found them hilarious! My son spent most of our stay on the swing, reading his book, it was a great addition that made this location way more kid friendly! The only negative about this spot is the extremely steep and narrow hill, that was the only enterance and exit to the retreat. The final 500 meters were almost vertical, and very challenging to pull a trailer up.

Huon Bush Retreats is exactly as the name suggests. Less than 10 minutes from the centre of Huonville, you head up the road through typical Australian bush to arrive at a significant and incredibly beautiful temperate rainforest. 5km of walking tracks, the plateau viewing 7 different mountain peaks. The waterfall is stunning and the wildlife abundant. The cabins are comfortable and equipped with solar power, gas hot water and wood heaters. The views are amazing. The outdoor bath tubs are great. You can immerse yourself in peaceful, health-giving nature and truly unwind.

Camped here on our recent trip to Tassie in our hire van. Such a beautiful secluded spot. My only regret is I only found it on our last night and we could only stay for 1 night. Great hot shower and we could have a fire (supply own wood). Will definitely stay again when we come back to Tassie. The cabin accommodation and Tipeees looks great too. Very friendly owner.

My wife booked this bush retreat cabin, and based on my experience I will challenge you to find a worst accommodation than this one. To begin with, the road to get there is a 30-40 degrees gravel that requires 4WD or at least a very capable AWD otherwise you are in it for a surprise, and forget it if it's wet. If you're lucky enough to get there, the cabin has no electricity outlets, the gas was empty and the place not looked after. I'm uncertain the water was safe to drink. There were two chairs in the cabin, and one had two of the four legs broken and couldn't use it. The locks on the sliding door were too worn down that they almost need wrestling with them to open. The bath tub on the balcony was very dirty and there were cobwebs on every corner. Did I mention that there was no one at the reception and you need to find your way just based on a mud map 🤦 On top of all these, there was visible human waste left inside the toilet bowl from previous guests. To whomever reading this, the place is far below any reasonable standard, strongly recommend book elsewhere 💩

AVOID CAMPING HERE. Stayed here because the reviews were glowing, to only realise it’s the cabins they are talking about. As someone’s who camps regularly and used to roughing it, the facilities for the campervan / camping are terrible. Showers/ toilet block reeks of black mould and has black mould throughout. Looks like someone didn’t do their waterproofing properly. Bush kitchen looks like it has never cleaned. Mouse poo inside the bbq and all over the hot plate. The place and concept is good but the dodgy built and maintained facilities ruins it. Hate to fault someone making a living but for the price, you’d expect more. For half the price, cleaner toilets and clean drinking water stay at the rv friendly park on the Huon river in Franklin.

We booked on line through the website. Arrived to find the place deserted and had the appearance of being shut. When I called the number we got no reply. Having cycled up the very steep hill we put up our tent and stayed. The kitchen area had not been cleaned for ages and the bathrooms were not clean. In fact the ladies loo was locked.|We met 2 separate people who said the owner wasn’t around at the moment. |Tbh the website should not be accepting bookings!|Plus points great location and hot water!

A very happy weekend away after the Christmas hustle. The location is stunning. ||While the cabin doesn’t have powerpoints (but does have very adequate kitchen and a powerpoint to charge phones/tablets), it’s clean and very comfortable. Many little touches. ||The wood stove heater and outside bathtub were great novelties for the kids, as were the pademelons. ||The adults appreciated the hot showers, proper coffee cups and also that the hosts went out of their way to resolve a booking issue that was entirely not their error.

Yelp
How magical and amazing this place is! Ok I have to admit that the road up to this place is kind of brutality steep and scary and I should maybe take one of the stars of because of that but the rest is so perfectly peaceful, so they deserve a 5 star rating! if there is nobody there to check you in you can call real quick and they come soon around the corner. the person that checked me in explained everything and i would have had the possibility to buy what i m missing for my camping needs in the reception, it looked like they had bottles of wine and beer , cookies and other local specialties. we stayed here with a little camper and had an unpowered site. at check in we got a map for hiking the trails in the morning. after we checked in we made it to the meditation maze just down the hill a little. its a great spot to just sit and reflect and enjoy the amazing view over Huon Valley. rabbits and padamelons show up all the time especially at dusk, the moss is soft and invites you to hang out. from there we just went to the overlook to see a tree that got hit by lightning , they have informative boards everywhere to teach you about the history of the place, what happened and the meaning for the aborigines. we had a nice larger campsite that was not close to any other vehicles so there is easy enough room to set up your table , the bathroom was right across the way and the showers where there also. everything is equipped with lightswitches with timers to save energy. the showers were warm and very clean. there is a hot tub also around a corner that you can fill and soak , sitting in the forest , amazing! there are compost toilets that have no smell whatsoever that i found utterly fascinating! you also have the possibility to rent cabins in different sizes and tipees that i unfortunately didnt see , they are tucked away a little to ensure privacy i guess. i spied into one of the cabins( true YEPLER action!) and saw a double bed and a bunk bed, so that one slept 4 people all in one open room with a little kitchen and a couch and a private bathroom, outside as a porch and a parking possibility, what more do you need to be happy?! i would love to find more places like this one everything was just made with so much love and care, we wished we could have stayed longer!
