A very happy weekend away after the Christmas hustle. The location is stunning. ||While the cabin doesn’t have powerpoints (but does have very adequate kitchen and a powerpoint to charge phones/tablets), it’s clean and very comfortable. Many little touches. ||The wood stove heater and outside bathtub were great novelties for the kids, as were the pademelons. ||The adults appreciated the hot showers, proper coffee cups and also that the hosts went out of their way to resolve a booking issue that was entirely not their error.

Being country people, who have enjoyed camping holidays all our lives, the description provided by Huon Bush Retreat of their property and facilities resonated with us.||But….. all is not as described. ||Great location but not value for money. The cabin was approximately $380pn and the shower was cold. (Another guest told us her shower was cold, also.) Polite phone and text requests to address this were ignored. |Be aware there are no power points, only two usb charging points. ||The composting toilet, while conforming to the eco ethos of the place, would be better built into a separate room, perhaps on the verandah, rather than integrated into bathroom area. It had a pervasive, cloying smell. ||When we saw campsites set out on steep slopes that would have been hopeless for putting up a tent, we were glad our plans to camp there had changed. ||The walks were beautiful, but no more so than many national parks offer. The only native animals we encountered were half tame ones around our cabin that had been fed by the owner. This gave one an impression of being immersed in the bush, but the only ones we saw were around the camping area - quite the opposite of what one would expect of wild animals. In fact we saw more wildlife walking in the bush on top of Mt Nelson, Hobart.||There had obviously been a safety system in place at some time, whereby walks had to be registered at the start of the walk. this had been let lapse, as there was no paper in the folder where we could register our names etc to show that we were somewhere in the bush. ||Overall, lack of transparency about things like cold showers and being expected to thoroughly clean the place; ‘every ten minutes the cleaner spends cleaning your cabin, you will be charged $20 left us feeling ripped off and glad to get away.

Stayed here for a couple of nights and across our whole tassie trip this was really a highlight. Camp-site was incredible spacious and well kept, with the natural environment intact around it. Manager was nothing short of lovely and accomidating, and facilities were well kept including hammock and relaxing swing. The walking trails are just amazing and incredibly informative, they're absolutely worth walking even if you're not staying the night. Saw an array of local wildlife including some very cheeky pademelons which were really delightful if you defended your dinner properly haha. Only wish our stay was longer!

The best thing is nature. Gorgeous walks with plenty of pademelons. Quiet. If you don't have a car it is a problem. It is around 12 or more km from the bus stop to Hobart. The shower was cold. I found it expensive, but worth the experience.

Could not complain, I loved the beautiful outside bath.... up a scenic bush track. Play ground for my 3 year old and the community kitchen was the best!!! My 3 year old toasted marshmallow with her new friends while us parents cooked dinner and enjoyed a wine... than we went back to our tee-pee with heaps of wood and snuggled up in the double bed until we woke too the sunrise. Absolute magic!!!! Owners were also welcoming and helpful.

What an amazing serene retreat. We absolutely loved our stay and just wished we could have stayed longer. Michael was so accommodating when we needed to change our travel dates. We stayed in one of the Teepees which was perfect for the 2 of us. We encountered lots of wildlife and a cheeky possum who followed us around a lot, even trying to get into our teepee. The bush bath was a real treat and the camp kitchen was perfectly decked out with everything we needed. The road is quite steep and rough in places so best to have an AWD or 4WD to make this trek easier. We will absolutely stay again and recommend this place highly.

Very disappointing experience: 1. Very unclear check in. No one at reception: only have a paper saying saying PT East instead of my name. I had to call to find out. 2. Confusing road sign: some of arrows are wrong. 3. Promised breakfast didn’t show up: they have breakfast delivery service on their website but it didn’t show up. I called 3 times and sent 2 messages to them with no answers or replies. We waited until 10am (checkout time) and it was nothing. In summary, if you are an experienced camping lover and you are keen to the location, it’s worth to try. If you are looking an unique accommodation experience, please find something else. This is not for you. The no show breakfast is not for anyone. Update: a business that doesn’t care…. I have sent an email requesting a refund for the no show breakfast since I checked out. So far, I haven’t heard anything from Huon Bush Retreat via phone, text or email.

Yelp
How magical and amazing this place is! Ok I have to admit that the road up to this place is kind of brutality steep and scary and I should maybe take one of the stars of because of that but the rest is so perfectly peaceful, so they deserve a 5 star rating! if there is nobody there to check you in you can call real quick and they come soon around the corner. the person that checked me in explained everything and i would have had the possibility to buy what i m missing for my camping needs in the reception, it looked like they had bottles of wine and beer , cookies and other local specialties. we stayed here with a little camper and had an unpowered site. at check in we got a map for hiking the trails in the morning. after we checked in we made it to the meditation maze just down the hill a little. its a great spot to just sit and reflect and enjoy the amazing view over Huon Valley. rabbits and padamelons show up all the time especially at dusk, the moss is soft and invites you to hang out. from there we just went to the overlook to see a tree that got hit by lightning , they have informative boards everywhere to teach you about the history of the place, what happened and the meaning for the aborigines. we had a nice larger campsite that was not close to any other vehicles so there is easy enough room to set up your table , the bathroom was right across the way and the showers where there also. everything is equipped with lightswitches with timers to save energy. the showers were warm and very clean. there is a hot tub also around a corner that you can fill and soak , sitting in the forest , amazing! there are compost toilets that have no smell whatsoever that i found utterly fascinating! you also have the possibility to rent cabins in different sizes and tipees that i unfortunately didnt see , they are tucked away a little to ensure privacy i guess. i spied into one of the cabins( true YEPLER action!) and saw a double bed and a bunk bed, so that one slept 4 people all in one open room with a little kitchen and a couch and a private bathroom, outside as a porch and a parking possibility, what more do you need to be happy?! i would love to find more places like this one everything was just made with so much love and care, we wished we could have stayed longer!
