This feels like a dark kitchen despite trying to market themselves as a place you can pop in. We used to come regularly. However, we noticed that they always prioritize the mobile orders instead of prioritizing helping the people who have walked in and are waiting. One day, we ordered and waited a full 10 minutes with a baby in a stroller. Various orders came and went. No one bothered to check on us. Finally, we asked for a refund and planned to go somewhere else. At that point, they said they hadn’t started the order so could get to it (shocking that they would wait 10 min to start the coffee order). We said no, we’ll take the refund. Then, they said they refunded us but couldn’t print the receipt due to technical issues (another red flag?). We found it quite shocking a food and beverage establishment can’t print a paper receipt. We will not be coming back, but if we did, mobile order is the way to go, since this is clearly not a cute coffee shop where you can walk in and expect a relaxing experience.

I hadn’t had a burrito from this spot in over a year, and I was genuinely excited to try it again today. Sadly, things seem to have changed—and not for the better. Right from the start, I noticed that this burrito didn’t hold its shape at all, and it was loaded with an excessive amount of salsa that created a total mess inside. The few beans and unexpected addition of corn felt out of place, especially since I used to love the potato they added, which really made it something special. While they used to serve salsa on the side, this time, there was no need (or space) for extra—it was practically swimming in salsa on the inside. The quality has definitely declined, and unfortunately, it just doesn’t meet the standard it once did.

Google
Hutch and Waldo is great neighborhood spot for a quick bite, I like the look of the place, it has an easy going feel. A nice spot to grab and go or stay and watch the crowd a bit.

Google
Nice spot in New York for quick breakfast/lunch. Coffee is nice, and the avocado toast was delicious. Service is a bit slow. They do not warm/heat pastries if you ask for it, which is a shame for the monkey bread. It would taste better warm.

Google
My favorite place in UES, I am obsessed with the menu. Also, love the vibe. I got this breakfast, so delicious and everything tastes fresh. SUGGESTED!

Google
Australian coffeeshops, all brewing great coffee, seem to have taken over NY and Hutch and Waldo is no exception. I came here for a latte but seeing all the people hanging out enjoying brunch, I ended up getting a bite. I had the avocado toast - not the most amazing I’ve had - but let me just say, they do not skimp on the avocado. Excellent value! And the coffee’s great!

Google
It's nice, I just wish the general area was a little less cramped. There's a lot of street obstacles like chairs, tables, dogs, kids and strollers with nowhere out of the way to park, so it becomes hard to navigate. Forming a line is hard as well due to the lack of space Please install a top wall or pigeon spikes on the ledges over the ordering/waiting area. Pigeons often sit up there and cause issues with poop falling.

Yelp
I really really really enjoy Hutch and Waldo! The coffee is awesome! It's so reliable! The breakfast burrito is different but in a good way it's very solid! Hutch and Waldo has no indoor seating but they have outdoor seating sometimes under an overhang. The staff is always super friendly every single time I come here! They knock the seasonal drinks out of the park every single time they come out with something new! Seriously so reliable don't miss this place!

Yelp
I'm impressed! This a cute yummy outdoor grab and go cafe with breakfast, salads, sandos, juices, smoothies, and coffees. If you are lucky you might be able to find outdoor seating for 1-4 people. Pretty standard NY prices. Food will be anywhere from $11-$20 while juices and smoothies are $5-10. Coffee and tea for $3-$10 depending on what you get. The portions were pretty big, and the food all tasted very yummy. Truly no complaints from us and will definitely be coming back! - BREAKFAST BURRITO (5/5) - GRILLED CHICKEN + AVOCADO SANDO (5/5)

Yelp
So glad I stopped by Hutch & Waldo for brunch! Their breakfast burrito definitely hit the spot! I really appreciated how the crunchy hash brown contrasted with the soft eggs and flour tortilla. The ratio of ingredients was appropriate, and the cheese pull was pretty solid. The bigger egg chunks could have used some extra salt or needed extra dab of sauce, but overall it was well-seasoned! I didn't realize you could add bacon, avocado, etc until later, but will be doing so next time. The breakfast sandwich featured eggs, kale, and hot sauce. It was tasty but I still preferred the burrito. For drinks, the orange espresso tonic was tasty! The orange flavors went well with the bittersweetness of the espresso. The latte had a good balanced blend of espresso and milk. Despite a line on a weekend morning, service was pretty quick and staff were friendly. They only offer outdoor seating, some in the covered patio and some not. Enjoyed the light blue accents and their attention to your doggo friends. I'm a fan and can see myself coming back to try other things!

Yelp
YUM!!!! Delish breakfast burritos, the potatoes were still crispy inside which I loved. Coffee is good too! Only thing I don't love are the pastries
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by for a breakfast sandwich. It was good. Scrambled eggs, kale, tomato chutney, onion jam, and chipotle mayo on ciabatta. I didn't taste all the ingredients, mostly just kale and bread. I added some hot sauce and it helped. Overall, it was okay. I was expecting a crispy ciabatta bread and more flavour overall. I think there might be better options on the menu.

Yelp
Got a breakfast burrito: no beans, add bacon and salsa on the side. The actual burrito itself was great! Fluffy eggs, crispy bacon, and the hash-brown was filling. The wrap was crispy which I enjoyed. My only complaint was the salsa. It just tasted like ketchup but thicker. I wish it was more like authentic salsa because it would've been a perfect addition. My friend got the salsa in her burrito which she regretted because it was a mess & it was better to dip it, taste-wise.

Yelp
Love this spot! The portions are on the smaller side but the food feels clean and refreshing. Their cardamom latte is delicious and nutty and so good. I love their scramble bowl, but I've realized it's quite easy to make at home so I generally don't order it anymore. But I always appreciate that they inspired it for me! I most recently got the chia overnight oats moment which is great and pretty filling. Their breakfast burrito is small but delicious! They no longer have any seating indoors (they used to have super limited but a little) and last I went (first week of November 2024) there was none outside either. Maybe it's seasonal or maybe it's permanent, but I would love a table to two in case I want to perch somewhere to eat!

Yelp
Came here strictly for HH w my gf and had many espresso martinis with a side of shoestring fries. DELICIOUS. I believe they use actual brewed, FRESH espresso and my gosh, you can definitely taste the difference in quality! It's a little cafe so it's super cute and cozy. Very sweet staff as well. Been meaning to come back for HH!

Yelp
Cute stall with plenty of fresh and healthy options. There is a parklet with minimal seating. I ordered the crispy quinoa and kale which tasted super fresh and had a full half of an avocado which I appreciated. I was a bit disappointed in what I ordered and wish I would have ordered something else just because I wanted a little something extra I felt was missing from the salad.

Yelp
RATING: 7.3/10 (for their breakfast burrito and coffee) PRO TIP: You can add bacon to their breakfast burrito if it's missing enough meat for you. Wish you could add sausage but that's not an option unfortunately. BREAKFAST BURRITO Fluffy eggs, crispy/well cooked potatoes, got a pretty delicious seasoning on top it. Not sure if the beans add much except for some heartiness. No housemade hot sauce - just frank's red hot. Good crisp on the burrito. Solid overall, especially for the neighborhood. Would consider getting again, but would like a breakfast burrito with a hot salsa moment and crumbly sausage instead. CAPPUCCINO - not bad, though def not the best cappuccino i've had. Gets the job done, and esp for the UES, it's good. FINAL RANKING: GOOD (terrible / bad / ok / GOOD / great / excellent)

Yelp
Really good breakfast burritos though next time I will be adding avocado! Lots of salsa, flavor, black beans, hashbrowns and scrambled eggs with cheese. I paired it with their watermelon juice and it was delicious.

Yelp
Service: Self counter service spot where you order at the front and the staff brings out the meal to you. Ambiance (4/5): Some of the photos online make it look like indoor dining is available but when I went there were a few small seated tables along with some standing tables in an outdoor patio area. It is completely open, so there is no air conditioning. The decorations and theme are super cute! Food (5/5): Wow I was surprised at the portion of the $16 scramble bowl. (Estimate) There was a half of an avocado, 3 eggs, 3 bacon strips, and like half a block of feta cheese. I usually eat all of my breakfast but this was too filling that I couldn't manage so! I can't wait to come back to try them again.

Yelp
Fire fire fire! Nice lil spot in the upper east side. The rito has tots which sold me over the sando. They add a nice lil crunch to it with the oozy cheese. Add a bit of hot sauce and you're money! Solid grab n go breakfast rito for sure, highly recommend.

Yelp
I am a fiend for caprese and proscuitto so this sandwhich did not disappoint ($13). There was a hefty amount of proscuitto (like 3 or 4 pieces), generous fresh mozzarella, and salted tomatoes. The basil pesto tied everything together with a vibrant green bow, and there were even whole basil leaves to further accentuate the herbiness. The toasted ciabatta bread was yeasty and so crispy without being too hard. This was one of their daily specials, so no guarantees that it'll be there, but their regular menu looked just as good. They had plenty of outdoor seating and it's a stone's throw from the Met Museum, so highly recommend stopping by for breakfast or lunch!

Yelp
This hole in the wall coffee shop/cafe is really cute spot and dog friendly! We had a cold brew coffee and a smoothie both delicious, and when we went back for food including one of the burritos it was also delicious.

Joshua G.

Yelp
I went in about a week ago on a cold morning. I ordered the "famous" breakfast burrito. The burrito was great but the coffee, I could have lived without.

Gina P.

Yelp
The breakfast burrito was good but not worth the hype. Maybe I should've gotten avocado or bacon on it.
google avatar

Yelp
Wonderful, wonderful little UES cafe. Love their little Frenchie logo. Food is fresh and ingredients are quality. Prices are reasonable, I always leave with leftovers, portions are large! Service is always lovely.

J C.

Yelp
I am a sucker for good coffee and avocado toast. This place has the best cold brew that I have tasted around my neighborhood. Their avocado toast is perfect. It is creamy & piled high enough to fill you up! And it has just the right amount of seasoning. They are not trying to reinvent the wheel. You need to go there and try it out for yourself.
google avatar

Yelp
Love!! Everything here is top notch food wise. Avocado toast is one of the best in NYC. Chicken sandwiches , wraps and everything else here is really great. Go enjoy!

Yelp
Love this spot in the UES! Food is delicious and came out quick. Portion sizes are great as well.

Yelp
This is a cute Aussie breakfast/brunch spot in UES, great for takeout or outdoor patio dining (though a bit cold during winter as they don't have any indoor space except to put in orders). The matcha latte and matcha smoothie were both very tasty, though the smoothie was more liquid-y than I expected for a smoothie and a bit pricey at $9. The big aussie breakfast was a hearty sized breakfast/brunch option, with plenty of mushrooms, avocado and bacon bits, plus eggs, multigrain toast and tater tots (though the tots were a bit meh). This dish was large enough to last me more than one meal, though didn't have much meat except for the bacon (other meat can be added on for additional cost). The chicken avocado toast was tasty and solid as well, though smaller in size. Staff was nice and the order didn't take more than 10 minutes to come out. They have a covered patio area outside, though it still gets very cold sitting out there in the winter time (no heat lamps as far as I could tell). They are dog friendly as they even have dog water bowls setup outside!

Yelp
Came by on a rainy day after a suuuuper early morning and all I wanted was a solid breakfast. Hutch and Waldo completely delivered. I ordered the scrambled eggs on toast which I thought was a little pricey at first ($11 for toast?!) but when I got my toast I immediately took my comment back, because WOW was it big and filling and so tasty! Service was friendly and patient as I decided on my order and they were so nice to accommodate my weird request for ketchup on the side. This is a super cute coffee and casual breakfast and lunch spot. There isn't a lot of seating, so if you're in a group definitely plan ahead, but for just 1-3 people it's great and again AMAZING food well worth the price

Yelp
This is a pretty cute spot on the UES, with a nice window and patio. It's totally great for outdoor dining or a a catch-up with a friend, like I did The staff was friendly and everything came out quickly! A great touch was the staff brought out my food to where I was sitting. I had the brekkie sando with egg and greens, and I thought it was a great sandwich! It was very filling for the price and the bread was toasted just perfect.

patricia g.

Yelp
So disappointing! Ordered a GF breakfast sandwich and it was almost inedible. Cold bread, unseasoned eggs, tomato paste was weird. 0/10.
google avatar

Whitney D.

Yelp
This small Aussie type coffee shop is wonderful! Their logo of a dog is even super cute. Coffee is great, food is wonderful and tastes so fresh always! They have wonderful merch too: sweatshirts, hats, bags, koozies. Its a great, great spot. And worth the time to stop by. During the height of covid-19 here Hutch and Waldo had tables setup outdoors to sell some of their coffee and pastry items. All front line workers got free coffee and seeing this gesture was soo sweet to see! Also, they made food boxes for nurses and doctors for local hospitals and the public could buy online a food box and have a special note of THANKS attached to it. Just all these small gestures in a time of NEED and sadness and a scary time too really helped the community! And I want to say Thank you for that!

Yelp
Excellent cappuccino, iced latte, chai granola, and breakfast sando! We loved the crisp toasted ciabatta bread, and the not too sweet chai granola with chia seeds.
google avatar

Kristin M.

Yelp
I've really wanted to try the chai overnight oats and they did not disappoint. Very satisfying. Love the granola and the cocojune yogurt. Added some nice depth. Fruit was super fresh and nice. Also service was fast and friendly. Lots of people there on a Saturday morning. Good vibes.

Yelp
I wanted to try a new place for breakfast this morning. When it was my time to order, I narrowed it down to the Breakfast Burrito or the Brekkie Sando. With assistance from the staff I decided to go with the Brekkie Sando. Once I ordered, there was an option to sign up for the rewards program. I decided to sign up & thought it was interesting that it's connected to Cash App. While I waited for my food, I noticed they had merchandise for sale. The pastry section looked tasty. I will definitely buy one on a future visit. Once I received my food, I sat outside. The Brekkie Sando was delicious, the bread was warm & just right. Not too soft or hard, it was somewhere in the middle Overall, I enjoyed my breakfast & the experience. I plan to return to try additional food items.

Yelp
Decent coffee shop on the UES. I stopped by for a smoothie but I thought the portion was expensive for what it was ($9). I got the "ues" smoothie and thought it was filling but the cup was on the smaller side. Super crowded on a Sunday morning which was to be expected. Next time if I am in the area I would try out their coffee. I like the exterior - it is just a pick up spot with a few seats in their outdoor structure.
google avatar

Sarah K.

Yelp
The most adorable and quaint coffee spot in the UES. Their blue smoothie bowl was refreshing, satisfying and delicious on this super hot Net York summer day. Regular iced latte was strong and delicious with the perfect amount of milk to espresso ratio. Service was friendly and very fast even with is being pretty busy during lunch time on a Sunday. Outdoor seating was limited but very nice and the breeze was amazing. Can't wait to come back and try a savory item from their delish menu. Also, their doggie logo is adorable :)
google avatar

Anna K.

Yelp
Cute place on the UES for breakfast and coffee. It's a little on the pricier side but the sandwiches and coffee were pretty good. There's limited outdoor seating with heaters and about three tables inside.
google avatar

Sonali L.

Yelp
the flavors were reallyyy good! I would definitely get the Big Aussie again, and possibly the burrito but need to add some salsa :)
google avatar

Cory B.

Yelp
The food is awesome here, and it's definitely become one of my favorite spots in the neighborhood to grab something healthy. However, you have to go there in person to get good service. It's impossible to get in touch with someone on the phone. They try to be tech savvy by only offering support via text, but they have no idea what they are doing, so no one ever responds to you until after the fact. I texted today at 11:19 AM. It's now 12:00 PM and I still have not heard back regarding a potential order. What a joke. Ain't nobody got time for that! TL;DR: Go there in person. The food is great! If you order online, you're on your own, will never be able to get in touch with someone, and will most likely have some issue with your order (missing sauces, ingredients, etc.).
google avatar

Midori G.

Yelp
A very cute coffee shop w plenty of food options. It's rather small on the inside, but there is plenty of seating outside. They had many ~healthy~ food options although we opted for just coffee on this trip. For a small oat milks cappuccino and an iced oat milk latte, it was $13 + tip.
google avatar

Melissa P.

Yelp
My husband and I came here for lunch and really enjoyed our meal. My husband got a bowl and enjoyed everything in it but the dressing had a little too much olive oil. I got the mushroom toast and added avocado. The bread that came with it was perfect. Also the mushrooms were still warm and the avocado was a perfect add on. It is a little pricey but all of the ingredients tasted very fresh.

Yelp
Waldo and Hutch has been on my to go list for a long time. Today I walked all the way back from Summer Streets to have my coffee here. I was going to give it Five Stars but I've decided on Four. It's not their fault that I can't afford their prices. Today was enjoyable because it's nice weather. I wouldn't be eating here in the winter. There's a lot of families with strollers waiting in line. I saw one dog. I got there at 8 and had no line and plenty of seats to choose between. Everyone showed up after 8:30am on this Saturday morning. I thought about having a breakfast. I'm just not up to eating a big meal and didn't want to carry leftovers. I decided I hadn't had a Almond Croissant in a long time so I opted for that with the 8oz. Coffee. My total was $9.25. Service is top quality with a very nice man behind the counter that I assumed is the owner. It's clean and comfortable outside. I used my own coffee ingredients. The croissant was definitely not as good as I've had elsewhere. It was extremely sweet. The other thing I don't like is credit card only. I hate to put just a coffee on my credit card. In this case I should have! Next time I'm hanging in this neighborhood with out of town guests maybe they'll treat me to breakfast! You can't order lunch until later. At least I could have taken half of my lunch home for tomorrow. I suggest you grab and go if you're in a hurry. If you want a relaxing breakfast or lunch get there early. Seating is first come first gets a seat!
google avatar

Shreya P.

Yelp
Great chicken burrito spot in UES! Was very tasty and unique. My friend got an egg dish that was also very good. Will stop by to try their coffees next time. Overall a nice stop but wish there was more seating / vibe for the price!
google avatar

Alexa T.

Yelp
My latte was really underwhelming but I enjoyed the outdoor seating they had. My friend and I sat and talked for an hour and a half. They started playing music later which was a fun vibe, but seemed random.
google avatar

Mari T.

Yelp
Had a hot chai and a breakfast Sando. the chai was delicious, the breakfast Sando was OK. It felt like more bread than anything. I chose not to get it with kale. Maybe that also changed the experience but it was delicious but I think should have more items in it besides the sides, eggs, and the different spreads. The eggs were great. The bread was also good, but again nothing spectacular but a good sandwich nonetheless.
google avatar

Sejal M.

Yelp
Great quick brunch spot in the UES! Was on a stroll uptown and couldn't help but notice the cute outdoor setup outside the restaurant. It is a grab and go - with some tables outside to sit and enjoy your meals. They have a variety of options and from what I've seen everything looks amazing. We went with a classic and ordered the avocado toast. I added scrambled eggs to mine. DELICIOUS is an understatement for sure. I will say though it is a little bit on the pricier side compared to most brunch spots in the city. Still worth a try!
google avatar

Rachel M.

Yelp
Super cute spot with loads of good options. I got the overnight oats bowl which comes with fruit granola yogurt and oats bc of course. Granola is crazy good , oats itself lack flavor though.
google avatar

Bijal R.

Yelp
Such a cute spot for a quick lunch/coffee. Servers are attentive and orders come out really quick even when busy. Iced latte was perfect along with the burrito with cauliflower rice, panko chicken and Pico. Tasted light, flavorful yet filling. The spicy hutch club was great too. Fresh ingredients.
google avatar

Marisa G.

Yelp
staff are always lovely an the breakfast burrito solved world peace as far as i am concerned

Mar R.

Yelp
Would NOT recommend at all. Service was so slow. This breckie sandwich is pathetic for a $15 sandwich there is no seasoning or flavor. It was bread and egg with some steamed Kale. The tomato thing and onion spread are non existent. I ended up asking for a new meal because it was so bad (the woman was so nice about it but the manager was pretty rude). the Apple Quinoa salad was fine but nothing I would go back for. We went to avoid going to a chopt or other chain place but those are shockingly better. The other Aussie places in the city like Bluestone Lane are much better.
google avatar

Audrey D.

Yelp
Meh. I've ordered the breakfast burrito a few times to-go and each time I remember how unsatisfying it is. Not horrible by any means, but definitely not worth the price. Its 90% eggs, 1-2 tater tots, and barely any flavor throughout. The sauce in the burrito is delicious but they barely put any. And on top of it, if you want to add avocado they charge a criminal $4. Ridiculous- should be $2.50 at MOST. Iced coffee also tasted... peculiar. Maybe the other menu items are better but I wouldn't go here for breakfast.
google avatar

Merideth M.

Yelp
Came here for brunch with friends. They had a more Mexican flare for brunch foods. Like burritos and burrito bowl type things. Americanized for sure, but still had the Mexican flare. I didn't get either of the burrito or burrito bowl options, I went and got the avocado toast and it was good but def not great. The sourdough bread it was on was good, avocado spread was good, but the chunks of feta didn't really do it justice. It was just a lot to put in my mouth and the feta wasn't the best compliment here. The grape tomatoes added a bit of bite and freshness but overall I wasn't really loving the avocado toast. The place is small and causal so you order and then grab a table and then they call you up when it's ready. The service was friendly and as an added feature, I think they may allow dogs? Don't quote me though.
google avatar

Rainey C.

Yelp
Was in the area with a friend on a Sunday afternoon running an errand and we decided to stop and find a spot to grab brunch. Stumbled upon this gem of a place and we loved how affordable and cute it was! I got the Scramble Bowl, which was a hearty and filling breakfast. The Tumeric Latte is something I would never order for myself normally but I was feeling extra adventurous that day and decided to give it a try. It has a bit of a spice to it, but it does have a home-y and fuzzy warm feeling to it. Indoor seating is pretty limited here, but they do have a good amount of outdoor seating.
google avatar

Meg S.

Yelp
It's a really cute spot! I get California vibes here with the cute staff at the register, blonde hair, tan and all... It's very dog friendly since it's outdoors. I will say there isn't much place to sit unless you are with someone & have snagged yourself a table already. The menu is Australian but it's nothing too different than your ordinary American breakfast spot. I ordered a Brekkie Sando and iced coffee and it hit the spot! The sandwhich was a bit too big to fit in the container properly, but I can tell it was made with love. It was a bit pricy I would say, for a breakfast sandwich and coffee in the city. I do wish to sit out here one day! It doesn't seem to be the cleanest place to sit with all the foot traffic and literal traffic & trash nor is there any tables to sit at when I'm here. *sighs*
