Hwaseong Haenggung

Beautiful historical palace in the heart of Suwon! I really enjoyed walking around Hwaseong Haenggung. The palace is clean, well-maintained, and surrounded by lovely traditional houses and shops. You can rent a hanbok nearby and take beautiful photos inside the palace area — it feels like traveling back to the Joseon era! 👑 It’s easy to reach by public transport and the entrance fee is affordable. This is a famous historical and cultural space of Suwon province. When you come to Suwon, you must visit here. The space is quiet, you can sightsee and take pictures. The ticket price is 2,000 won for adults.

I recently visited Hwaseong Haenggung on June 1, 2025, and was captivated by its blend of history, architecture, and serene surroundings. As soon as I entered, I was struck by the beautifully preserved fortress walls and regal palace buildings nestled within. Walking through the ornate throne hall and secret corridors, I could almost feel echoes of the past. The landscaped gardens and seasonal flowers added a peaceful charm. It’s a must-visit spot for history buffs and anyone seeking a tranquil cultural escape in Suwon!

Everyone knows this place if they visit Suwon, but it is worth to visit at night also. You could enjoy a different version of this palace and could experience much more of this place.

This is the typical Korean Palace in terms of structure, layout, and decor. I don't find it particularly elaborate or lavishly decorated. Still, it is pretty to visit and wander around its courts. It is very similar to the ones we visited in Seoul.

Took a nice walk around the palace grounds without many tourist at around 10.30am. Caught the 11am martial arts show right outside the main gate and was very impressed with the agility and the talent of the performers. Free entry for those 65 and above by showing the passport (applicable to tourist too).

Just buy tickets at the nearby counter. Noted it was just renovated in 2023. The place looks quite big (empty) tho… Recommend to walk up the hill at the back and look down for the view. You can have a rest there also! Quite chill.
