How I Used Points to Cover More Than $20K Worth of Hotel Stays for My Honeymoon

"Before reaching what we considered the crown jewel of the trip—Big Sur—we wanted to take some time to explore the charming town of Carmel and the nearby scenic 17-Mile Drive, so we booked a night at the Hyatt Carmel Highlands."

The views from the restaurant are breathtaking. I've come twice and would come again and again. The food is great too. The hotel grounds are beautifully maintained with an impressive plant variety. Watching the sunset from the hot tub was the amazing experience I was hoping for. There was an issue during check-in, but Abel Veloz, the Front Desk Director, personally took the time to listen and understand what happened. He generously comped the room to make things right. That level of ownership and care truly elevated the experience and reflected the standard of a 5-star stay.

Before our trip, we were worried that our stay might be disappointing because of some negative reviews. However, everything turned out to be wonderful. The front desk staff was attentive and helpful, the room was clean and recently renovated, and the restaurant (Pacific’s Edge) was amazing, the view was phenomenal, and so was the food! We truly loved everything about our stay. Even though the power went out at night and in the morning due to heavy winds and storms, that was beyond anyone’s control. Highly recommend it, and we will definitely be back!

Don’t stay here. It’s basically a glorified motel 6 that you will pay $500 a night for. We came for our mini moon and we feel genuinely swindled for the amount we paid and the quality of service they provided. The views are beautiful, but you will get better views if you go to the bar and grab a drink or drive along the PCH. The view does not meet the price tag. The photos on the website are very deceiving. We were also very disappointed that we thought we were staying at a nice hotel for our mini noon. They did literally nothing for us, not even a little congratulations card. I expected a little more for the price we paid. I reached out to management directly and found no adequate resolution for this issue. Don’t waste your money.

I hate I even feel the need to write this. Let it be clear our view from our room was AMAZING!! Room was average at best. Guest service was non existent. When called to get wifi they put us on hold for 15 minutes. Called back and they just didn't answer. Never got a wifi code from front desk (no cell service). Never got champagne like rest of guest. Got seated in a area away from main dining area all by ourselves when we came in for dinner. Valet would not deliver our vehicle like they said they would the night before. Parking was terrible at our location (this is why we used valet the 2nd night) car was almost hit twice. People struggling to back down hill. Thankfully the one thing that was outstanding was the view and housekeeping! Since it was obvious they did not want us there we will honor their wishes. Thankfully everyone else around the area were very accommodating and welcoming towards us.

We celebrated our anniversary here the last week of October 2025, and it exceeded all expectations! The property sits above the ocean with breathtaking views of Carmel Highlands.||Our Point Lobos Suite was spacious and luxurious, with a king size bed, soaking tub, walk-in shower, plus a cozy living and dining area with ocean views.||The Sunset Lounge served fantastic cocktails and bites, and the attached restaurant offered amazing dining with unforgettable scenery.||Perfect for a romantic getaway! Beautiful ambiance, great service, and stunning views. Highly recommend!

Check-in was very chaotic, with large lines/clusters of cars at reception. We opted to self park but parking lots were very full. With only one person working check-in, the line there was also long and took a while to process. Once checked in, we were directed to another line to get a parking pass. This ended up being a ploy to present a timeshare to us. Incredibly tacky and frustrating after already waiting so long to check in. This was our second time staying here. On our first 3 night stay, we were upgraded to a suite beneath the bar/lounge, which was incredibly loud through the night. This visit, we requested a top floor, quiet room. We received a non-standard room at a far corner of the hotel, beneath another room’s patio. However, the room was very quiet. Parking was a short walk and some stairs away - somewhat difficult to get to with luggage. The room was generally clean but did have plenty of beetles, ants, and dead bugs around the room. I assume this is due to the unique construction of this room on the outside, lower level of a small stone building. The balcony had some rot and mold issues as well. We attempted to eat dinner at the lounge, but were informed they were short staffed, so instead returned to the room to order room service. We were anxious to leave the hotel for fear of having no parking on our return. Unfortunately, the hotel no longer offers in-room dining, so we returned to the restaurant. The host informed us there would be a 2 hour wait (I assume due to staffing, as it wasn’t terribly busy), so we ordered take out salads from the bar, which came quickly and were tasty. It was nice to then eat on our balcony overlooking the coast. Overall, not a bad stay, but the hotel is clearly suffering from staffing issues and lack of parking. I definitely would have preferred a standard room closer to parking/facilities, and would request this in the future. The grounds are beautiful and rooms offer some wonderful views.

Google
What a gem! The rooms are super clean, nicely furnished, the bathroom is very spacious, the kitchen is fully equipped, and the view is gorgeous! The staff is super friendly. Ilona at the Sunset Lounge is so nice and friendly. Great service and food! I highly recommend the Hyatt Carmel Highlands!

Google
So I booked a two-night stay here in the one bedroom king villa suite using the world of Hyatt app and my chase points. I brought my parents with me for a little getaway. Didn’t look at the reviews until I was on the road to the hotel. Got scared because there were a lot of 1-star reviews on here, but I didn’t have the 1-star experience at all. Room service was prompt when I asked for extra towels and slippers. I booked the stay at the “Hyatt vacation club at highlands inn” which doesn’t show up on Google maps and NOT the “Hyatt Carmel highlands.” Looks like they are both located right next to each other? Maybe it also helped that I came here the week before Thanksgiving and it’s not so busy. The only complaints I have are 1) that there was no smart TV so couldn’t chromecast or watch Netflix and 2) our indoor fireplace didn’t direct enough of the smoke up the chimney so some of it came inside the room and so we couldn’t really use it after that. 3) It’s still helpful to note that there are a lot of stairs to go up to the concierge and restaurant so not the best place for bringing grandma or grandpa if they have mobility issues. 4) the hotel shampoo, conditioner, and body soap weren’t great, so I recommend bringing your own. 5) there are EV chargers, but no Tesla chargers

Yelp
I have great childhood memories here, nice walks, views, and I loved the outdoor fireplaces growing up. My dad had like discounted stays with points or timeshare or presentation offers or something like that so we came once a year and I always loved it here

Yelp
We just wrapped up a week long stay Saturday. We had a pleasant stay in a one bedroom villa (see pictures of 211). We didn't lack for anything. Everything was perfect as could be.

Yelp
There is no more spectacular view of the Carmel coast than from the restaurant at Hyatt Carmel Highlands. That said, this property is staff-driven and is currently in the hard-working hands of Gerri Lynch, Aaron Dominguez and Patty Roche. Both restaurant and housekeeping staff continue to excel and graciously welcome guests. Another well-deserved shout out to Tony Lorenz who inspires guests to take full advantage of the natural wonders of this area. Bravo!

Yelp
place we'd visit do I asked for a refund. I was directed to a number of the Chief marketing officer and adviser a simple call will execute the refund. It's now Feb 2025 and my wife and I have called, left voicemails, emailed at a minimum of 20x times and they can't even get back to us. We call the front desk and are given the run around. We call corporate and we're given the run around. The simple and utter lack of communication is appalling and I urge those reading to avoid the property.

Yelp
It was ok. Definitely overpriced stay because of the view. My husband surprised me and told me that we are going to an ocean view resort hotel for a weekend getaway since we've been busy with work and kids. When we got there, he was a bit disappointed with the layout of the hotel and my husband said the pictures on the website did not accurately display what he thought he was booking since he felt he paid lots of money per night for it. Hard to find parking and lots are full. We were lucky to find something close We got there, we checked in. Internet was spotty and the reservationist at the front desk couldn't enter or find my husbands Hyatt number. He was nice and gave us a map to go where our room was no elevators - quite a long walk especially with luggage for 3 days. You need to be prepared to walk to your room. We had quite a little trek to get an ocean view. Yes, they provided an attendant who can take you as close to the room but lots of stairs and felt like it was an apartment building. We were met with a pine sol smelling room. The bed was in inches away from the door. Small and had a balcony. Looked like a very small studio apartment. The plus to this review is that we were alone for the weekend and at that point it didn't matter where we were. I wouldn't book here again.sorry.

Yelp
The ocean view from the balcony is stunning. 5-10 minutes drive to Point Lobos National Reserve for excellent hiking and even more breathtaking sights. Our one bedroom suite was spacious. The bed was comfortable and so was the sofa bed! First sofa bed that didn't feel like a waffle. Loved the fireplace and free wood supply! The kitchen was stocked well. There are two barn sliding doors separating the common tv room from the bedroom and the bedroom to the large bathroom. Jet streamed bath which we should have used. Toilet is conveniently separate from the shower. Disappointments - no daily housekeeping (per their green conscious policy) - have a tinted shower door. Don't want to show off my birthday suit - Fix outdoor hot tubs ASAP. The one outside our building was broken. - reopen the market as the Pacific Edge restaurant there is too pricey to be hit or miss - more signs to Yankee Point. Never found it It's a luxury to stay here but location and basic comforts made us happy.

Yelp
Pros: Service, VIEWS, good on-site restaurant, sunset suite, beautiful grounds, location, clean, a bit secluded, and good value for the money. Cons: Outdated rooms, lack of amenities like a convenience market on-site, physical accessibility, bed, and lack of necessary lighting on the path to suite. Service: Every employee we interacted with was very pleasant and accomadating. However, we did encounter a bit of an unfortunate delay in getting checked into our room. We arrived about an hour before check-in, hoping to get an early check-in, but we checked in an hour late instead due to a delay in room service. We ended up getting a bit of a discount, which was appreciated. It was a bit frustrating as we had dinner reservations at Sierra Mar, which requires a deposit. But, the room was very tidy, so it was fine. I appreciated the time and care put into the room. Views: Amazing. We stayed in the sunset suite room 102, I think. I'll post pictures of the view from inside the room. Outdated rooms: The sunset suite could use new carpet, some fresh paint, and thorough window cleaning. The bed... that was probably the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept in, which was very surprising to me. Oh, and there's a stairwell where people can see into your entire room. Bathroom, bedroom, and all. Amenities: The restaurant on site was good. I wish there was a convenience store. I injured myself while out, ended up going to the ER, so got back late, and really wanted some painkillers. The front desk didn't have anything we could use. Difficult physical accessibility: I didn't know it at the time, but I fractured my ankle during my last night (not on site). So, taking all of the stairs after getting back from the hospital was torture. There are so many flights of stairs that we needed to go up and down on. So if you plan on staying in the sunset suite, know that there will be about 4 ish flights of stairs. Lighting on path: To up the hardness level to access the suite, there was no light on the path. Which, given the terrain, would be a really good idea. Still loved this place! I think the pros outweigh the cons. And now I know what to expect. I will definitely be visiting again for the killer views, on-site restaurant, and the seclusion. Next time, I'll bring my own medical kit, head lamp, pillows, and blankets.

Yelp
The room was dated but clean. The only thing was the smell of cigarettes and it was hot at night. The next day I found a fan back in one closet but it didn't look clean. I loved the view and eating at their restaurant. The food is great and the prices are very reasonable. I did get a card upon check that I was supposed to turn in for a couple of gifts? I looked it up and others said that they do that to get you to listen to a presentation about time shares? I didn't turn it in so not sure if that was true. This was a memorable stay overall.

Yelp
We came from Southern CA on October 9 for our 27 yr wedding anniversary. Upon check in, we were told there would be a planned power outage and that it would last an hour or two but hopefully only 15 min. And that would be sometime between 8pm and 6 am. We figured no big deal. Reality is the power went off at 8pm sharp and did not come back on until 10:00 the next day. There were no hot showers, no lights, refrigeration, television etc. this includes outdoor lighting and let me tell you it is dark. This is dangerous and illegal. Management is refusing to give us a refund. Customer service sends me back to the same manager we had a problem with. They genuinely do not care about customer service. I am shocked and deeply disappointed in Hyatt corporation.

Yelp
As a Hyatt Member, all and all, my stay was enjoyable. Being located in one of the most beautiful places in the world, how can it not be great. We were offered sparkling wine upon check in, always appreciated :) I didn't appreciate that we were forced to chat with the timeshare vacation rep after checking in but after my expressing that I wasn't interested, he backed off and we ended up joking around the rest of the visit. The property itself is beautiful (I regret not taking any photos). Weirdly, there's no easy way to get your luggage to the room, as there's no way to use one of those luggage carts (lots of steps). We had a king ocean view with a balcony. The balcony was fantastic - had a premium view! However the room wasn't quite what I was expecting, primarily the bathroom. It was more like a motel bathroom. There's a small vanity area outside the small room with a old style bathtub/shower combo; very drab and not conducive to a nice relaxing bath. One huge upside is how close the property is to Point Lobos. This was by far one of the most scenic hikes I've experienced. Dining on the property was a bit of a mixed experience. Overall, I enjoyed the food and drinks that I had. The menu's a bit limited. I'd brought a special bottle of wine for the trip and after finding out that corkage was either $35 or $40, we decided that we'd just order in for one of our dinners. We were surprised to learn that you have to physically go to the restaurant to order, that they had no room service option. In addition, we paid a significant service charge for ordering to go. If they don't have a room service option and we are doing all the leg work to bring something back to our room, why are we paying a fee?? Now that I've stayed here once, I'd definitely consider returning and incorporating what I learned on this trip to improve my experience next time. Even with the negatives, it's a special place.

Yelp
Stayed here for my husband's birthday. Upon checking at the front desk we were offered glasses of welcome champagne which was a nice touch. Everyone was extremely kind to us. The manager, Jennifer, was quick to respond to the couple questions we had during our stay. The bellman, Juan, was very kind and gave us a ton of tips on things to do in the area. View was incredible, and we had a really great time. We absolutely loved it and can't wait to return.

Yelp
Excellent view from our suite. Staff are excellent and very accommodating. The hotel restaurant is a bit pricey but the food and the view make it worth it. The only thing is it's remodeled from an old building and it still shows some of the age, like the hard to control heater. There was a creature got in the room (ground floor) and took apart the fudge in a plastic bag. It was a wonderful experience overall. May stay on the higher floor next time.

Yelp
This hotel has very bad service. 1) during my stay, the coffee machine never worked. they replaced two machines and both never worked. 2) They took away my coffee machines and never replaced for me. and i thought ok. then i would rather to have no coffee machine , instead of waiting there for hours for another bad coffee maker. 3) 2 days after i check out. they charged me 200 dollars and 3 days after check out they charged another 100 dollars with out notify me and with no reason. 4) Then called them to ask why i got the charges. and they said i took their coffee machine. After explain that i dont have any coffee machine during my stsy. They said they would investigate that and will respond after one week. 5) now one week after, and they never responded me back. 6) it is hard to reach them by phone, often wait online for a long time. 7) no idea how to communicate with them....

Yelp
We like this area so much. And the property is great. The room was comfortable for our small family. Jacuzzi tub worked great. Bed was comfortable and the living room and kitchen did the trick. Toilet had a fan unlike many hotels. Kinda hilly if walking is an issue. The restaurant was delicious. And the view from there was amazing. The view from the room is nice but there are a lot of possible obstructions. All and all we liked this spot. Price is a bit high and the place could be a bit more clean. We may go back if the price was right.

Yelp
My (now) wife and I planned on staying here for two nights for our honeymoon. We checked in, and informed them it was our honeymoon and they provided us with caramels as a complementary gift. Instead of giving us our room keys and sending us on our way as with every other hotel I have ever stayed at, we were taken to another gentleman who tried to pitch us on purchasing another stay... before we even made this stay. Mind you, we didn't have the keys to our room yet, as they were being held hostage by person giving us their pitch. It was basically a timeshare/incentive rewards pitch. I actually couldn't believe it was happening to us. I said sorry we are not interested and then we walked to our room. Unfortunately my wife fell down the slippery main entrance stairs which have a ton of warning signs on them. The pool on property was closed. A room was condemned with do not enter signs due to landslides. It was this combination of things that happened within the first 30 minutes of arriving that made us turn right around and head to Pebble Beach instead. Sorry Hyatt, you struck out on this one. When we went to our room (for a total of 10 minutes before realizing there is no way we are going to end our honeymoon here) it felt like we were in a early 90s time warp.

Yelp
We absolutely loved our stay here! The view was incredible, the property was beautiful, and our room was very clean and cozy!

Chelsie B.

Yelp
Pros: 1. Ocean views 2. Close to point lobos 3. Fire pit near hotel room 4. Coffee from the onsite restaurant Cons: 1. Pool closed indefinitely due to landslide 2. The hotel information said 3 hot tubs were open when only 2 were open. 3. The hot tubs are only meant for 4 people and hotel guests were hostile towards our family when we showed up to use the hot tub they were already in. This was a very unpleasant and uncomfortable experience. In the end I blame the hotel for not having enough common areas to accommodate their guests. We would have just went to the pool but there was no pool. 4. Not family friendly. 5. ***extremely uncomfortable sofabed. Hard and unforgiving bed. We made it work while we were here but I would not stay here again.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing scenery, clean room with view onto the ocean and the crashing waves. Food and cocktails were delicious. It would have been 5 stars if the foood/drink prices were a bit more reasonable (it was excessive even for a 5* hotel!). Great stop especially if you are doing the coastline road trip as it is ideally located just after the Santa Cruz stretch and just prior to the the Big Sur stretch.
google avatar

Maddie J.

Yelp
So horrifically managed. Took 13 attempts to finally reach the front desk on a Monday at 10 am. To get your permit pass, they send you to a desk where you have to learn about time shares, pool not in use, hot tub only 1/3 way full so you cannot use bubbles, staff is horrendously unhelpful. Not worth the price or the views....

Tony H.

Yelp
Worst hotel on the Peninsula. If you stay here they will pound on your door and harass you for every little thing. The manager here is a train wreck. Dump rooms as well.
google avatar

Jerry H.

Yelp
We came here as a time-share guest. The resort has been recently renovated. This is our first visit after the renovation. We stayed in unit 404 which has ocean view. I think I like the the room with wood surface furnitures and cabinets before the renovation better.
google avatar

Jess W.

Yelp
Beautiful location. You are definitely paying for ocean side views. Here are the downers, it was pouring on our first morning and I wanted breakfast by room service, well tell your partner to go fetch food or starve because there's no rooms service. There is a mini fridge so bring your favorite drinks and snacks for early morning or late night munch. We stayed by the pool side room, and there's surprisingly three levels. It is poorly labeled which room is where so you may be searching for a bit. Hopefully it isn't raining when you're looking for your room. We stayed on the middle level and dang people are loud walkers and what seemed like people moving furniture around for the first 5-15 minutes after they entered their room. There is carpet in our room so I assume their room has carpet too? The carpet doesn't seem to absorb any of the sound. The shower pressure is level medium-soft. I only used the conditioner since I forgot mine, but you'll probably wouldn't be able to tell you even used conditioner. The king size bed was comfortable. The bed had room to give and you can tell it's not super old and you'll wake up with a kinked back. So thankful for this because in the last hotel we stayed in, my back was sore the next morning. The sheets are soft and cool. And they provided 4 pillows! It seems like one for every style of sleeper! They provide robes, soft and heavy. The umbrella, we received a broken one, brought it to the front desk, also broken. Had to get a third one. Attention to detail is poor. Also if you look into our welcome packet, the person must've been writing drunk or writing in the dark because the numbers did not even look like what they are suppose to be. The bellboy also had trouble figuring it out. Check out is at 12noon. House keeping came by by 0930, I sent them away. Why is house keeping coming by even before the usual 11am?! Also I did not put up the sign saying I checked out. It seems like there are so many notifications in place for check out that they were all bypassed. Parking - sucks. If you find a good spot, stay in if possible especially if it's raining. The grounds are poorly lit and it gets very slippery. (Everything is more difficult when it's raining). Skip the in house restaurant unless you're really hungry. Overall I had a decent getaway, but wouldn't come back unless 1) free stay 2) got a very good deal 3) well maybe there isn't a third reason

Yelp
I would not recommend this hotel. We were thoroughly disappointed by our stay. We came here after recently getting married and expecting a baby. It was our first overnight trip to celebrate which we shared with the hotel. We had multiple experiences during our stay leaving us disappointed with our visit (very outdated rooms, power outage leaving the room extremely cold/ no reception, very loud neighbors above us from 5am-7-am/ difficultly requesting an hour later check out to attempt to get some sleep during the morning). When we checked out, we shared with the hotel that ultimately the stay was not what we expected for the money we spent and we were disappointed we chose their location to celebrate some exciting things in our life. They offered to refund $150 of our night's stay which we were content with, but because we booked the stay through a third party (Reservation Stays), put the work on us to request a partial refund. Our stay was in August and it is now December with no resolution or refund in sight. At this point we are not going to try to navigate the process of getting a refund with Reservation Stays and hotel any longer. I just want to share this experience for others as there are likely better hotels to stay at in the area. The view from our room was beautiful, but you can likely stay elsewhere and find a similar view in the area.

Yelp
This place is awesome. The pictures don't capture the beauty. It really is one of the most elegant places I've seen and I am a native CA who's been up and down the coast many times...
google avatar

Shana R.

Yelp
Gorgeous view. Everything else was a mess. The food was late, under/overcooked and greasy. The room was old, small and had a fake fireplace. Also, the pool is shut down and barriers placed so even though the hot tub is 10 feet away we would have to climb a huge hill to reach it. Don't waste your money at the hotel or restaurant! Save yourselves!
google avatar

Paul R.

Yelp
Had a horrible experience here.. put us in a claustrophobic room in an old dilapidated building.. no view of the magnificent coastline. We will never be back.. this was the condition of the windows. Dirty.!

Sherry B.

Yelp
While the view was exactly as we remembered (we've stayed at the property over a dozen times over the past many years), the stay was sadly lacking. No room service, lots of steps to our room (my wife is 74, and having four flights of stairs was inconceivable), we had a very noisy family with four kids right above us (we don't blame the family, but was disappointed that the hotel didn't take that into consideration...they arrived the same day/time we did, and they could have easily stayed below us), and the room was in dire need of a refresh. To cap it all off, at check-out, the front desk staff asked us about our stay, and when I indicated that it was a far cry from our previous visits, he apologized but immediately asked us how we'd like to pay for the balance. Didn't even care to hear about why we were disappointed. This will indeed be our last stay at Highlands Inn.

Yelp
This hotel was great. The rooms were super clean and the staff were very nice and responsive when it came to making accommodations. Finding your room is a little tricky but manageable. The parking can also be a tad tricky but again, manageable. The only reason I did not give a 5 star room is because of how vague they are with their "ocean view" room description. While yes my room did view the ocean, I had a massive tree in front of my room that blocked most of the ocean. However the room was still amazing and I would highly recommend a stay here.

Stephanie O.

Yelp
This may be the Hyatt, but if it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, then it should be a duck. Meaning, the service here was terrible. Upon arrival, there were a bunch of male employees singing and messing around. We asked where the restroom was and they gave us vague directions. The housekeeping also lied to us and told us that check-out was at 10 am when it was really 12 pm. The receptionist was also rude and condescending. Last but not least, they have a restaurant with poor service. Won't be staying here in the future

Yelp
Ok I will bother to post this review while it's fresh. Got the Point Lobos suite which is supposed to be their most expensive and best view location spot. Overlooking Big Sur. Hotel is in a nice area but you'll have to drive ~12 mins to downtown Carmel though. Pros: - hot tub was great, spacious, sadly no hot water on day checking out so that sucked. - Bed spacious and comfy - Balcony view is nice, privacy view you can see out but no one can see in which was nice. Def needed the privacy as it's right by the restaurant - 2 bathrooms - parking was nearby and convenient luckily. Did not use valet - check in everyone was nice and welcoming can't complain about that customer service - the view was breathtaking, it was a nice calm area appreciated that - 3 fireplaces. That was nice. Didn't heat up much. A bit of an overkill. Wood provided was low quality and caused quite a bit of smoke. - AC/Heater worked good -TVs worked - Fridge and microwave worked Cons: - Shower tiny, water flow was so WEAK like could barely wash off soap how weak the few drops of the water would drip. The main shower head and the extension shower head were equally terrible with water flow. Also no hot or cold signs so you have to fiddle figuring out which way it gets colder or hotter. Often shower would run out of hot water too. - Bed sheets ripped a bit on spots, didn't notice it much - Requested more towels as I did use the hot tub every day. Uh they sent me beach towels...And their towels were awful quality to begin with like old and over washed man. So yeah the day of check out I had to use washcloth leftovers coz even those beach towels were such bad quality they'd get wet and useless. When I requested the items to be delivered they gave attitude over the phone and took a while. Weird. - Rusty mirror - like come on seriously? They couldn't do that much to replace that thing? - Old furniture that's visibly overused, damaged and seriously needs to be replaced (ever heard of goodwill Hyatt?) like for the rates a customer is paying, you think they'd be able to afford newER furniture - This is a timeshare - so no wonder there's issues with this "suite". After this experience I'd highly recommend if you're checking in somewhere to see if it's a part of a timeshare. Trust me being just a hotel guest didn't give me any benefits. Timeshares suck for everyone seems like - Balcony view - wanted private but I get they can't accommodate etc. Luckily wasn't busy but this suite is RIGHT by the stairway to the hotel restaurant so people passing by all the time. - Resort fee - they send you an email that's allegedly the receipt upon booking. Well apparently it isn't. So expect a $44 resort fee that isn't included upon booking to be charged to you later after you've checked with no explanation or receipt. When I called to clarify what this charge was several days later (as they told me any additional charges would be for accidentals which there was none), one rep was nice then the other one Rubi was starting to give me attitude that I was impatient. Pretty sure she was ready to call me a karen lol with her comments: be patient, I AM pulling the receipt now, I WILL email you, I'm getting a headache bla bla. I told her we don't need to go back and forth just send me the receipt. Sorry #notsorry for having lack of patience after their services lacking in so many ways and them just charging up a resort fee with no explanation. It just popped up on my credit card account. Anyway she had plenty of time to "educate" me on how you know if you stay at a resort you have to pay resort fees but perhaps I've never stayed at one bla bla like dude who cares? Why are you defending a bleh business that charges $$$$? What's it to you? Do they pay you enough? I bet not when you're getting a headache already from dealing with a customer over the phone over an inquiry for a charge that wasn't explained to me. - They sent me receipt finally after I was on the phone. Like thanks but that should've been sent beforehand and nicely explained therefore I wouldn't have had to call to begin with! All in all I would not stay here again and I don't recommend this place. If you do I'd recommend don't get any suites. Seriously a rip off for how $$$$ it is. Perhaps a room would be fine. Expect the resort fee charge later. There was a wedding there so seems like a nice location for that sure why not. Area is nice and quiet but again it wasn't during a busy time. Very close to downtown Carmel. Plenty of parking. So there are some positives but for me there were just too many negatives outweighing the good. And on a last few notes I'd say not all of us have $$$$ to splurge all the time. Yeah I coughed up the money and expected more that was my fault. But I seriously think they can do better but they just won't. Even the American flag at main entrance was ripped. Like come onnnn put some effort to fix things around here.

Yelp
Love the view and the modern fresh menu here. Service is ultra professional and the location is a great escape from run of the mill places. It's like a mini vacation in itself.

Yelp
Hello, If you continue to read the reviews - you will see the place (reputation) continues to go down hill. This reason is simple the management. They really do not care about the customer experience and are relying on the beautiful views, landscape and area to continue to attract customers. I have stayed at this place 2-3 x a year for the last 5 years and will not be returning. In fact, I recognize almost all of the staff (servers, host, travel assistance, and valets). Joe, the valet was the highlight the past July 26th weekend. He gave my wife and I a warm greeting. The bad: the place is clearly becoming run down, very little diversity w staff, many family members work there (not a bad thing but clearly complacency, poorly trained managers, wait staff horrible and under staffed. Here are a few examples: 2 times the girl(operator) referred to me as mam - I am a male. Server for breakfast on the 28th (older Latin female) - no greeting, forgot to bring a candle for my kid (his 2 yr. Birthday, 30 minutes for water no ice, did not check back on us once, did not bring my bill, no one checked on us, sausage and eggs cold, I can go on. There was nobody in the restaurant to provide feedback to. Then after we checked out - stayed there 2 nights. I asked to speak to the manager. This took 15 minutes. There was nobody in front of me waiting. The two ladies cl(At the front) could clearly care less about my grievance. I let the manager (gentleman Latin decent w facial hair) my concerns about the extreme drop in service. He did not care and said sorry. Did not ask about "how can I make it better" even after I said this place is consistently going down and we will not return. Also, paying so much money or using hotel points for horrible service and quality. The last 2x pool is not working and before that the hot tub was not working. There level of standards have gone so down - someone put a sign up for sprinkler like this Sprink- Ler. This place has lost it. No one is happy there, the staff is complacent (been working there for 20-30 years and are waiting to retire. They stay there because ppl are generous because (it's expensive to stay and for the views). Service can be terrible and doesn't matter but I bet the level of clientele has gone significantly down. We will start going back to the Monterey hyatt regency - at least it has been upgraded. I will not be surprised if one of the patios in an ocean view room breaks down. They also do not feel safe anymore. Last, I called and asked for the parking permit twice and never received one. Very disappointing

Yelp
Within minutes of Carmel and Ocean Avenue, Bixby Bridge, and 17 mile drive at Pebble Beach, the location of the Hyatt Carmel Highlands is ideal for a vacation and getaway along the PCH. The hotel is pretty dated in terms of the exterior. However the interior is much better updated but still a little dated. We had an Oceanview Townhouse spa suite, which was two stories. Top story (entry) had the kitchen, living room with sofa bed, and full bathroom. Bottom floor had the king bed and master bathroom. During covid, the fitness center was closed but poll was open. Restaurant was also closed during our visit. Parking was pretty limited but hotel staff assisted with carrying your luggage up the hills on golf carts. Overall for the price/points redemption, the value is not as great considering the same amount of points can get you a really nice hotel at possibly a Grand Hyatt or so in a major city. But the location is very ideal and views are amazing which is why I gave it a 3 star review.

Yelp
MOLD!!!! All along the outside of a building that houses many rooms. I had to leave early. Management knew nothing about it. Corporate Hyatt is not responsive at this point. STAY AWAY. Mold is a severe health hazard.

Yelp
Another wonderful experience at this Hyatt. We loved our stay here. The rooms were sooooo beautiful and the views were just spectacular. This time, we stayed at a room with a kitchen and it was pretty convenient because we could cook our own food! They offered all the cooking appliances that we needed. This was super convenient. From the start of our stay, the people were so nice. The bellmen helped us with our luggage and we got to sit on the golf carts to go to our car to get our luggage. This was an extra treat for our kids because they loved loved loved the short ride. It was also nice to get the help in terms of moving our luggage. The front desk people were sooo nice and helpful. Whenever we needed anything, they were always prompt in helping us get bath supplies, coffee, or new towels. We just thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Yelp
The lower units of this property are moldy and sliding down the cliff. they should be condemned. It felt unsafe to sleep here.

Yelp
We enjoyed a lovely stay at Hyatt Carmel Highlands, and we also had the pleasure of dinner at their restaurant, California Market at Pacific's Edge. It was foggy the evening we visited, so we couldn't see much of a view from the restaurant's big glass windows, but it was a lovely atmosphere nevertheless. The beautiful red stuffed pasta was particularly memorable! Dined: March 8, 2020

Yelp
I came here for a wedding and luncheon reception in the not too distant past. The wedding was outdoors and it turned out to be a gorgeous day for it since it had been raining only as early as the previous day or so. This is a beautiful venue for a wedding. There was a table for liquid refreshments after the ceremony. The indoor area for the luncheon was nicely appointed. There were probably more than half a dozen tables. The lobster bisque was good. The crab cake was only just okay. I thought more crab was needed than filler. I had chosen the filet mignon and lobster tail for the main entree. This was more representative of a bad select cut of rib-eye. Filet mignon it was not. The meat was tough to cut with a knife. The effort exerted to slice into this beef was by far the worse ever experienced. The lobster tail was over cooked and not tender. I will say though up until this point the dishes did look appetizing but less than impressive except for the soup. The wedding cake they sliced failed to meet expectations. It could of been cut more professionally. I had no issues with the staff. They seemed professional enough. Sorry I can't recommend this place for a luncheon.

Yelp
Came here hoping for a nice getaway - left with hot tub rash (look it up - not fun). Giving 2 stars instead of one because the view was very nice. Bathroom wasn't the nicest either tho. -Spend your money elsewhere.

Yelp
This is our third overnight trip during COVID and was one of the nicest stays ever! Check-in is socially distanced, spaced 6' apart between customers and plexiglass between the customers/staff. Lee, our Bellman, showed us where to park and then we got in his golf cart with our bags to our room. Parking is in limited areas, but when he explained why we parked here and our room was over there, it made sense. He also gave us some dining recommendations since the restaurant on the premises was closed. We had an ocean view room with a fireplace which was very nice! The funny thing is almost everything is sealed in plastic (i.e., remotes, extra pillows, blanket, robes). The kleenex box is new and not in the container. I decided to put the tissue holder away but use the Kleenex box. We giggled about how everything is individually wrapped, but we know it's for our safety and theirs. It is not a deal-breaker. I appreciate the over-emphasis on safety. If this is how Hyatt treats safety, then I am comfortable with their brand. The only activities that were opened were the pool and the firepit. The spa and gym were closed. I'm okay with the spa being closed because our room was nearby and less noise for us. Since we had a fireplace and a view, and take out from Sur Restaurant, we were set. The funny was my husband was walking around and found this area with the most awesome view. However, our visit was cut short because we would have been caught in the middle of a wedding proposal. The snooty photographer commented that we couldn't be the engaged couple, because we're casually dressed (if he is Hyatt's staff photographer - he pissed off my husband, big time).

Yelp
The Hyatt Carmel Highlands has really gone downhill. This used to be a top notch Hyatt designation worthy of a high Category level. Now? I'd be hard pressed to justify more than a Category 4, and even a 3 would be fair. The good? Great location in the hills, near the ocean. Subdued lighting at night and a good sense of privacy. Several hot tubs around the property to relax in. A good supply of firewood and fireplaces in the rooms. The bad? Dated exterior and interior are not well kept. Walls and facades literally have pieces falling off, light switches are at the end of their lifecycle and coming loose in their enclosures... and water pressure is low. We had a spa tub and it took the better part of an hour to fill. The Wi-Fi? Supposedly new and completely non-functional, and the hotel was unable to fix (five devices across two people, so not a device issue). They offered us a number to call tech support but it wasn't worth the trouble to troubleshoot their system, you know? The binoculars? Gone. My guess is the excuse is post-COVID, which seems to be the excuse for degraded service levels across the board everywhere, not just here. We'll definitely be back to Monterey/Carmel/Big Sur, but won't be back here. If you're looking for other Hyatt options, there's one in Monterey itself, the Carmel Valley property and the new Alila Ventana Big Sur (probably our next stay).

Yelp
Well if you are expecting a premier brand that you would expect from the Hyatt brand, this will be a HUGE disappointment! The property grounds are spectacular, but essentially you are paying for the view. Room meh, bed okay, smelled a bit, stomping noises all night because of the flooring (SO ANNOYING) and all in was $750|night - best western quality at best- with a fireplace. We paid $113 for 2 bowls of soup, a cheese board, a vegan spinach salad and a midsized grade vodka. Thanksgiving fixed menu- butternut squash soup was 4 stars, beet salad 3 stars, Turkey and Ham dinner with mashed potatoes, stuffing and green beans was a 2 star- green beans being the best of all of it. Desert was burnt pecan pie and canned pumpkin pie... You are paying for the view, let me be clear! Ugh as a NorCal local I would NEVER stay here again- too many other places to stay in Carmel that are lovely with a fraction of the cost! Happy vacation.

Yelp
We were one of the first guests to stay here after they reopened from SIP. We booked a King room for our small family of four and it was perfect. We loved the view of the ocean. It was absolutely beautiful. The jacuzzi's were all closed off due to the pandemic but the pool was open. It was great and not crowded at all. We went swimming around 9 am and there was only one other family there who didn't stay for very long so we had the pool to ourselves for a bit. Check-in was friendly, quick and efficient. Service was perfect. Everyone we encountered was helpful. The only negative was that the restaurant was closed onsite. So if you're hungry, you'll have to drive a few miles to grab some food or order for delivery. There is a small fridge in the room so you can pack food and store it in the fridge. We loved our stay and will definitely return.

Yelp
Fine property, we stayed there for three nights last week. The staff that worked the grounds, landscaping, room care were friendly and curtious. The room was great, fireplace, jacuzzi tub, balcony, great bed. The balcony was right in front of telephone poles and wires(#212) We were poolside in the afternoon with a construction crew with hammers out and power tools blaring. We went to discuss with front desk and concierge, knowone took responsibility. A real downer to go through this at a high scale resort withy high scale pricing. I would not return

lisa e.

Yelp
We stayed there this past week- Jack hammering outside our $550 a night room all day, we tried to escape the sound and went to the pool where there was more construction and literally not enough chairs or loungers - 8 loungers for a hotel with 150 room. So we left the hotel to get some peace during our honeymoon. They offered us a $20 a day resort comp. Ridiculous, not going back .

Yelp
The suite was lovely. The view of the ocean was superb. The staff was Johnny-on-the-spot. The problem came in with how the hotel used my credit card. When I arrived, a charge for $244.28 immediately appeared on my card, and my credit card company sent me a push notification. I called the desk. "What's this for?" "It's a mistake. We're supposed to charge $100 for anticipated incidentals. We'll reverse it." Boom. Another $100 charge appears. Four days later and the $244.38 charge isn't gone. And I've been charged the $44.38 resort fee twice. I've been on the phone to them three times. "We'll call you back." No they don't. I called Hyatt corporate and got a different story about the $244.38 which I didn't believe either. "It takes 7-10 days to cycle off blah blah." "The $100 is already wiped out and they charged the resort fee twice." "They don't show that." "My credit card is going to make me pay it twice." Not acceptable, Hyatt. Do better.

Yelp
Our go to in Carmel. Great place to go if you are a Hyatt member. The location and the views are unbeatable, and the staff is first rate. Great deal if you can get the breakfast for free. Outdoor patios are heated. Pre-COVID the breakfast had an Açaí bowl, which is unfortunate no longer on the menu. The rooms with ocean views are generally solid. We got suite upgrades a few times. The upgrades are more likely if you go off peak season. Fall and Spring are the best time to go.

Yelp
Stayed 'Ste' 105. This room is clearly an afterthought. There is a walkway directly outside the bathroom and bedroom. If the blinds are open because the view is spectacular, the patrons making their way to their room, can peek a boo in to the bedroom.... If you're sitting on the toilet and the blinds are two inches open, u can wave hello. The monitor in the bedroom is off to the left (90 degree angle) and about 20 feet away. A very strange room for the price.

Yelp
Best ocean view on the California Central Coast! Nothing rivals nor competes with the spectacular Hyatt Highlands Carmel Inn. Up above it all, this historic, cliff top, resort is amazing! Whether you are staying in a room with a view, having breakfast or lunch at the California Market Cafe, dining in the spectacular Pacific Edge Restaurant or having a drink in the Lounge hanging over the beautiful Pacific Ocean, you will keep coming back time and again. Definitely the place to be wowed! And I am wowed every single time I step foot in this magnificent Inn! No matter what the weather... sunny, cloudy or foggy! Unobstructed and stunning views! This is an older establishment. Actually, from what I understand, a hundred year old treasure. And with that it has all the charm which goes along with something that has been part of California history for so very long. If you are a snob...you best not stay here:). It is not the Ritz nor the Four Seasons. It is what it is.....a magical moment in time and space you will only have here. I had the good fortune of staying here for a few days not long ago. Rustic, and maybe like your rich uncle's hunting lodge, might describe the room. And that was ok! Wood burning stove and all. Being nestled into the hill side with beautiful flora and fauna everywhere...was just perfect. Quiet all the time. Refreshing! As a frequent visitor to the Hyatt, I have had the pleasure to dine in the Pacific Edge Restaurant, have breakfast at the indoor/outdoor California Market Cafe (where all the Carmel locals go during the heavy tourist season of summer) and many visits to the bar/lounge for a sunset glass of wine or a sunrise Bloody Mary. The customer service is outstanding through out the property! The gentleman who seems to be working everytime I am there for a view and cocktail is just superb! Low key all the way... but never lets you out of his eye! He was there on my last visit this past Sunday. Thank you for your classy service! And may I say...you do not have to be dressed to the nines to enjoy breakfast or a drink in the lounge. Actually, that probably goes for the Restaurant too. This is laid back Cailfornia style. And I love it! As a bonus tip....I did not realize the bar/lounge had a HH! Wow...maybe this is something new...I don't know! But it is discreetly posted in a frame in the lounge area. I just happened upon it this last visit. Monday thru Friday...4 to 6. This is huge...lol! Great prices on cocktails, beer, local wines and appetizers! Unfortunately....it was Sunday for me:). Hope there are not too many people reading this review!!! I certainly don't want a stampede the next time I am here :-). If you are in the area and want some peace and quiet, along with mesmerizing views, take an hour or so to explore this wonderful piece of California gold! You may thank me later:)! Day dreaming about my next visit.....
