Hyatt Centric Downtown Minneapolis (Minneapolis, Minnesota) 3 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The coastal provincialists may approach it with skepticism, but the Hyatt Centric Downtown Minneapolis is grand indeed, just like its underrated upper-midwest hometown. The décor is old-fashioned in the best sense of the word, not dusty or dated, but full of sumptuous, classic materials — marble bathrooms, rich leather sofas and chairs, deeply varnished dark hardwood furniture — that never go out of style. They also do some things that, regretfully, have gone out of style, like nightly turndown service and even complimentary shoe shines. In short, there’s not a lot of corner-cutting in evidence." - Tablet Hotels

I chose this Hyatt over the regency Hyatt because it looked more charming. As others have mentioned, parking was a bit odd, across the street with poor signage inside. Front desk staff was mixed. One of the employees was pleasant and the other one didn't seem like he wanted to be there. I ordered food at the restaurant, in person for room delivery. That gentleman was very pleasant and helpful. The room was a great size. But it was too hot and the air conditioner would not go any lower. The mattress was too soft and felt like it needed replaced. And in the morning as I walked into the bathroom there was a roach scurrying across the floor. I managed to squish it and notified the front desk. I was on the 7th floor and it did make me wonder about the conditions in the kitchen. Yikes.

I really enjoyed my stay. I was upgraded to a nice room that had a separate living area, bedroom, and really large bathroom. Very nice block glass window in combo bath/tub area. The customer service upon my arrival was stellar. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the bar with bartender Mike. Mike makes excellent cocktails. Although I had neat Bourbon I over heard several female bar customers complimenting Mike on his drinks. One that Mike creatively called a "Mike-Drop" which is his creation and a play on a raspberry lemon drop drink! Ample hotel self-parking immediately across from hotel. I did wish they offered valet. All in all, it is a great hotel and great property.

Our favorite hotel to stay at in Minneapolis. Well positioned with restaurants, music venues and sports stadiums in walking distance. Staff is top notch. I appreciate that room requests have been honored. Breakfast has been good and reasonable in past stays.

Absolutely stunning suitte. Many personal touches like bath robes, slippers, all the bath and hygiene amenities you could need. Very spacious, extremely classy. The staff was helpful and friendly. Bartenders were engaging and make a fantastic old fashion. Great job. Close proximity to some of minneapolis finest restaurants. Best of all was the bed comfort. Pillows of 2 sizes. Not so thick that your neck hurts. Great place, great stay.

I’m glad I had the opportunity to stay here back before the name change, well the change in general. Nothing is what it was. The lobby upon entrance was indeed GRAND with its beautiful staircase case that you swore Elizabeth Taylor would walk down :-) I’ve never seen such a beautiful lobby, at least for a Minnesota hotel. I mean it could actually compare to some of Vegas’ Hotel lobby’s. In 2002, on our wedding night this place was GLORIOUS! CLASSY! ROMANTIC! Now as a Hyatt… might as well stay at a Radisson, it’s better. Well there’s my two cents on it all.

Nice hotel. Friendly staff. Room was clean and comfortable. Food at bar was good but pricey. Convenient location. 2 or 3 blocks to light rail.

Others before me were NOT WRONG about being charged fraudulently by this location. I don’t usually post reviews, but I had to for this one, especially after seeing that others had similar situations where they were wrongly charged. I had prepaid through a third-party site, but when I got to the hotel, I was asked to pay $288.80 at check-in. I asked what the charge was for, and they said $50 was for incidentals, $25 per night. That still left $233.80, and when I saw the final invoice, it showed I had been billed. When I called, they said it was a mistake and that the full $288.80 would be refunded. The person on the phone said I could reach out to the third-party site I booked through, and they could contact the hotel to speed things up. They could not fix their own issue. It’s concerning that other people have had this same experience, being charged for rooms they already prepaid. The rooms were fine, and the lobby bar area was just kind of mediocre. I would say it’s an old hotel with a Hyatt stamp slapped on it. There are tons of better hotels downtown. If you don’t want to deal with disputing charges and calling a bunch of phone numbers, just avoid this place. And if you do go, be prepared to be charged again for a room you already paid for. Update: This is still not resolved. After multiple calls to both Hyatt Customer Service and the property itself, the hotel continues to stall and deflect. The same Hyatt Centric employee who acknowledged the duplicate charge later emailed me the same folio that confirmed it, with no proof of refund. Numerous recent reviews document this same behavior: guests are charged again for prepaid rooms, and then forced to chase the refund. I would argue this is incompetence at best, and outright stealing at worst. If you prepay through a third-party site, expect to be double charged. Even if you book direct, be aware this property has developed a recent practice of placing charges on cards that are not properly refunded. I am considering escalating this further so that others do not continue to face the same situation. I will update this review again if the refund does not appear. Final Update: As of June 16, this still has not been resolved. I’ve spoken with the hotel and with Hyatt Corporate multiple times. Even after escalation to the general manager, no one has taken responsibility or processed the refund they admitted was a mistake. The staff at this location are either unwilling or unable to do their jobs. It’s clear from the recent flood of negative reviews that this place is run by incompetent people who are stealing from guests. Book elsewhere.

I usually don’t leave reviews, but I would not recommend staying at this hotel. I left an item in my room on the bed by mistake, and I have been lied to by the staff regarding it. We called the same day we checked out and were told that the lost in found was too “chaotic” to search through, but they assured us that nothing would be thrown out and maybe it was in the laundry, so we should call to check in the morning with the house keeping manager. When we called today they lied and said they did not have it, which is not possible. They absolutely had to have thrown it out, destroyed it in the laundry, or are too lazy to look in the lost and found that they admitted was not organized at all. Extremely disappointing and unacceptable customer service all the way around including being lied to by the housekeeping manager. If you’re looking for a hotel in the area fortunately there are others to choose from!

Yelp
Beautiful hotel. We couldn't have asked for better accommodations or service! Also a great location in the city. Our first time in Minneapolis but definitely staying there next time. Only a couple concerns keeping it from a 5 star. One was the pillows, very limp, way too soft, 2nd was the shower, the pressure wasn't great, maybe we just had bad luck. Third maybe isn't all their fault, but the bar downstairs, we had a 4 dollar charge for automatic gratuity, we only ordered 2 drinks! Also for anybody looking for a hotel gym, they had the nicest I have ever seen!

Yelp
Poor customer service with dinner service in bar area. The actions of the employee was justified by exhaustion from double shift per general manager

Yelp
My stay was for a staycation and it was perfect! The hotel is very clean and has a calm and welcoming feeling when you first enter. The front desk staff were very friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable, and overall wonderful to interact with! The room was very spacious and clean, had normal outlets and USB plug ins by the bed which was great along with many other outlets throughout the room in convenient spots which i find very helpful. The room service was quick and convenient. There are a lot of great amenities which is awesome. Overall I would highly recommend this hotel whether it be for a staycation, vacation, for a business trip, or whatever it may be you need a hotel for!

Yelp
Love love love this hotel! Its location can't be beat and the sheer size of the gym is insane! They also have Peloton bikes that you can use with your own login information. They have full size courts for ping pong and a running track, too. Our room was a standard king and it felt more like a suite. The bathroom is enormous and the bed was super comfortable and clean. No noise from the hallways or the street and very friendly service. We will definitely be choosing this Hyatt hotel when we're back in the city.

Yelp
This hotel was average in every way. While the location is good for events downtown (Armory, US Bank Stadium) and conveniently near the light rail the service, room, food and ambience were all just ok. Our room was top floor with a nice view but the room was so poorly designed with a lack of furniture it felt uncomfortable. If the price is right and you just need a place to stay without much expectation you should be fine. I wouldn't recommend or return to this hotel.

Yelp
Hyatt Centric Downtown is the only hotel I will stay at when I come to Minneapolis. The staff was so friendly. My room was great. It was the perfect location. My time there was a great experience.

Yelp
Was a loyal Kimpton Grand guest and stayed here for the first time since the pandemic and the completion of the renovation and management change. Rooms have a nice refresh and hotel was generally terrific. Team were wonderful. Rooms refreshed. Don't love the remodel of the lobby but understand it. And the gym is OUTSTANDING.

Yelp
A fun, colorful stylish remodel to the former Minneapolis Athletic Club founded in the early 1900s with great prices, but with some major caveats. Less than $200 a night downtown and a stylish remodel is the plus. But also would point out there were many other full service hotels in this price point during our September 2021 stay. On the minus, the remodel looked good at the surface but many short cuts were taken. We had some rusty old components in our shower, very little shower water pressure, and a child sized toilet that was comically low to the floor, that we assume was a remnant from the past. We had no housekeeping for our three day stay, & were notified of this by email after our booking, and told it was because our stay was so "short." Three days (two nights) is a long time wo go without any cleaning, emptying of trash bins, towels, in a hotel. The front desk staff were inexperienced, unmasked and while nice didn't seem experienced in the hospitality business. Despite being friendly, it was basically self service here. We spent $29 a day for self service parking, so an extra approximately $100 which seemed high, but we were told in and out privileges are a luxury in downtown Minneapolis by hotel staff, so okay. Don't mean to go negative here, but just to say while they have the decor and pricing down, you get what you pay for. I would probably not book again, as one of things I enjoy about a hotel experience is hospitality and a room cleaning. This is not the service experience at the standard you might expect from a Hyatt.

Yelp
I was pretty pumped to stay at this "new" Hyatt Centric in downtown Minneapolis but there are some nuances with staying here. PROS -Newly renovated interiors (lobby & rooms all had new furniture, wallpaper) -Affordable (1 bedroom suite ~ $200ish per night and very spacious) -Location (easy walk to city hall, plenty of downtown bars & restaurants, all of the sports arenas are situated downtown as well and definitely walkable) -In & out privileges for parking garage across the street -Friendly and accommodating staff -COVID measurements in place to keep a safe environment (only 1 family/group in elevator at a time, ice can be brought up by staff on demand, etc.) -Large gym with newer equipment and amenities (very nice racketball courts & pelotons) -Dog friendly CONS -Definitely noticeable short cuts taken during the renovation which I'm guessing occurred during the middle of the pandemic. The showers, bathroom fixtures, and doors are all original. Hardware doesn't match the more modern and clean style of furniture throughout. Our ceiling showed signs of water damage likely from the room above. -Front entrance door gets jammed and you end up having to muscle it to get it open. Also not very friendly to have to roll up a stroller up a flight of stairs. Accessible lift was available but seemed to be shut off. -Figuring out how to properly enter and exit the parking garage by foot is like a maze. Eventually I gave up and just started sketchily walking up/down the car ramp. While it was nice to get out of town for a weekend, it's very noticeable that Minneapolis has been hit hard by the pandemic and recent unrest. Lots of the nearby establishments downtown are closed and boarded up. All in all it's a bit eerie at times walking the empty streets. Aside from that, this hotel location and value still make it for a good option for downtown Minneapolis, assuming you can look past the shortcomings of the renovation. 'Til next time, cheers!

Yelp
Hyatt....Hyatt...what a joke! Viking's home game so was hard to find a place near The Armory for a concert we were attending. Customer service was okay checking in and the valet person greeted as they should. Had a few drinks before heading out to concert and returned back to our room around 2am. 20 mins after settling in our room we got 2 warning complaints that we were talking loud and will get escorted out if continued. So we went to bed knowing that the walls were very thin and wanted to respect others who were trying to sleep. Checked out around 10am and needed to break my cash down so I can tip the valet person but the front desk or the bar said no. Asked them I need to break my money to tip the valet but they refused to break my money. Was able to find a few dollars in the car for the valet guy. Next morning my wife notice an extra $250 charge on our card. Called the hotel as to why we were charge and was told that we were smoking weed ( marijuana ). No one in our group of 6 smoke cigarettes or weed in our stay. Front desk person then told us that they got us on camera in the room! So now they have camera in rooms and invading privacy! Asked for the videos, photos and to speak to a manager. Manager got on and said it's not our room that smoke weed. Charges been dropped and manager apologized but this hotel is crap! My family and friends will never rent from this place again. Can only get ice at the front bar downstairs.

Yelp
I had the pleasure of staying at the Hyatt Centric for 5 nights last week. It was an amazing experience. The hotel and my room are beautiful, and all the staff was really friendly and helpful. The manager was also on hand to make sure that my stay was great. The hotel is in a really convenient location and the attached, heated garage parking was a lifesaver. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Checked in last night and front desk was welcoming and friendly. Parking is across the street, very close so don't bother using valet. But it is available. Room was large, not much of a view in our room but clean and ready when we arrived. Bed and pillows were great and very quiet night. Would definitely stay again. Short walk to Hennipen Ave and bars.

Yelp
My family and I stayed here while on a visit to Minnesota for a Twins game, and our experience overall was not too bad. The lobby and waiting area was beautifully decorated, and the hotel is in close proximity to plenty of things to do downtown. The rooms were great, and the staff were all friendly at the front desk. The atmosphere was amazing, the only pitfall was the parking situation, but it was an otherwise great experience! Would recommend!

Yelp
The restaurant took forever for a simple spinach salad. I don't recommend this place. Really terrible!!!

Yelp
As of now there's only 1 other review for this property. So I'm breaking a personal standard to not arbitrarily grant 5 stars, so as to set the average at what I think this hotel should be, 4 stars. That said, my experience was 5 stars, all the way. But I also keep in mind that people who have limited mobility might have issues with this hotel. And because I am lazy I will simply post this authentic email that was in a response to a question emailed by the hotel manager asking "How'd we do?" It goes: Dear Michael, Thank you for your email. I enjoyed my night at your Centric, finding the space both peaceful and quiet. Unfortunately I wish my stay was longer, it seems like a wonderful respite and a step above other Hyatts I've stayed at in the Minneapolis area. Gigi was exceptional. She was courteous, kind, and informative during my stay, and was willing to accomodate my requests to park my car longer in the loading zone as well as to help me print documents I needed for my day. Without this, I would have had a poorer checkin and frustrating day. It is the personal touches like these that restores my love for the Hyatt brand. I'll honestly appraise what I did not prefer. While I understand the building is older, and moving carts in and out requires the ADA lift, I was surprised to find a short set of stairs to get to my room on the 15th floor. Not a problem, however. Secondly, while I did notice the building was a historic athletic club, this morning going to the gym I was not prepared for the sheer size and scale of the 3rd floor gym. It was fantastic, clean, well spaced, and offered modern machines that I appreciated. Again, this disappointed me only in that I was not at all aware of this jewel of a property, and I did not book a longer stay to be able to relax and unwind with this gym. I'm fairly certain there were other amenities I was not able to appreciate due to my work obligations. Furthermore, I'm moving to the Minneapolis area, and would probably need a good excuse to plan another visit to this incredible property. Thanks to you, Gigi, and the rest of the team for exceeding my expectations today. Brian -end of message. I know, my professional voice is v cheesy. But it's honest... enough.
