I rarely write negative reviews, but this experience was truly unacceptable.||From the moment we entered our hotel room, we were hit with an overwhelming sewage smell. When I requested a different room, I was told the hotel was “full.” I asked to leave and receive a refund, but the manager instead offered free wine (which I don’t drink) and sent maintenance. Their “solution” was to tape a drain and spray excessive air freshener. I have asthma, and my partner has allergies—this made the situation worse, not better.||The sewage odor lingered throughout our stay. On top of that, the room itself was poorly maintained:| • Sheets had holes.| • Shower glass was covered with calcium buildup.| • Desk was dirty with stains.| • Notepad had water damage.| • Menus and information booklets were worn and unkempt.||Even the reception desk was filthy at check-in, covered in fingerprints, which set the tone for the lack of cleanliness across the hotel.||We were told we were receiving an “upgrade” (because the hotel was full), but in reality, it was just a room that smelled of sewage. Later, I witnessed another guest checking in that evening—clearly, other rooms were available, making me feel misled.||We tried to salvage the stay by going to the rooftop bar, but it was occupied by a private event. Staff were inattentive and made no effort to accommodate us.||This was supposed to be the relaxing final night of our trip to Guatemala after a 3-hour journey from Lake Atitlán before catching a flight. Instead, I couldn’t bring myself to eat dinner or breakfast at the hotel, questioning the cleanliness of the entire operation.||Bottom line: The hotel should have simply refunded us or provided another room. Instead, we were left in an unclean, smelly environment with dismissive service. I would never stay here again and cannot recommend this property. I will never stay at any Hyatt property in my life.
