Park Hyatt Canberra, take a bow. It’s hard for me to adequately put into words how exceptional this truly remarkable old world charm hotel is, and how incredible our experience was in staying there for 3 nights. Even though I am aged in my mid 60’s, I had never been to Canberra before. My husband and I were celebrating our 41st wedding anniversary as well as my 65th birthday. But in the mix of these celebratory occasions, there was also a tinge of sadness of just days before losing my elderly mother to dementia. ||This was our time to just take a bit of a break and basically “exhale”. I think all couples need that sometimes. I researched many hotels in Canberra, but something just kept drawing me back to Hyatt. Now I know why. What a treasure this gorgeous place is. ||||I had booked a King Corner room which looked lovely on their website and it was a room that had a bit more space, something we like in a hotel room. ||Although the hotel were aware of our multiple circumstances, you can only imagine our shock upon check in which we were delightfully informed that not only did we receive an upgrade, but in fact, they had given us a double upgrade to the Diplomatic Suite, (which was also called “The Billy Hughes Suite”. Holy Moly, upon entering this suite, …what can I say “mind blown” and jaws on the floor. It was huge, in fact we joked it was bigger than our whole house, and oozing character and stunning old world charm. We just kept walking around it in amazement. Then a knock at the door, and the delivery of champagne and chocolates. We felt like royalty or somebody indeed very famous, and it was a lot to take in. The ambience of the era was everywhere you looked, from the large 8 seater dining table, to the carpet, to the chandeliers, to the furniture, to the photo’s of hundred year old photos of Billy Hughes, (ex PM from 1915 to 1923)., to the marble right throughout the bathroom and ensuite. The main bathroom was huge, complete with spa bath, and a very large shower. ||||We had breakfast included in the package which was served in the Promenade Cafe and it was excellent with a large variety of hot and cold foods. Customer service everywhere in the entire hotel was impeccable. ||The Tea Lounge is a very ambient place for a coffee and high tea is their specialty, although the dinner menu there is limited. The gardens are stunning. We parked our car in the underground car park and because we have an electric vehicle, we were able to make use of the free EV chargers in the car park. There were 2 of these, and it’s one of few hotels in Canberra that personally cater for electric vehicles. ||||Overall, I cannot praise this beautiful hotel enough and I hope to one day be back. An incredible experience which we will remember and treasure forever. A million percent recommend.
