My boyfriend booked a hotel through Expedia for Wrestlemania weekend. The day before we were supposed to check in, a rep from our original hotel called to say that our reservation had been cancelled due to damages from prior guests. Fortunately, Expedia helped us book a room at Hyatt Place that day at a reasonable price, and I was extremely satisfied with our stay considering that we booked on such short notice.
We got a king bed in a HUGE room, which I assume was so large because the couch was a pull-out bed (but we didn't need it because it was just us 2). It had a sliding glass door shower, iron and ironing board, mini fridge, and a second sink in the bar area. It also had a tv with every kind of plug-in available: USB, HDMI, auxiliary, etc. which was impressive to see in a hotel room. The room was clean, bed was soft and had clean sheets, and the air conditioning worked fine. We had a comfortable stay in our room, I was very impressed. There was no microwave.
The staff was very friendly at all times. We checked in late, and there were 3 employees cheery and eager to help. At breakfast, I asked where the nearest ice machine was on the floor, and the employee took my water bottle and filled it with ice for me at the bar. When we came back during the day, someone always greeted us with a hello. On the first floor, there are entrances at each side of the building (all except the front door require a key card to enter) and I noticed that someone at the front desk would peek around the corner to see who was walking around. It was reassuring to see that they were aware of who was walking around the halls.
There was enough parking for the guests in the hotel. Hyatt Place is located right across the street from Universal, and they have shuttles from the hotel to City Walk. They even have a ticket counter where you can purchase theme park tickets and skip the lines, which is very convenient. We were traveling to the Orange County Convention Center, which was a 15 minute drive away, and we went to Camping World Stadium (The Orange Bowl) which was a 20 minute drive. Hyatt Place was very convenient place to stay off of I-4 and near International Drive.
Their continental breakfast was satisfying. They always had sausage links and cage-free eggs. Some days they had pancakes, another day french toast. They always had cereal, oatmeal, bread and bagels, doughnuts, and fresh fruit. Drinks included various milks, apple juice, coffee, and tea. The foods tasted fresh and there was a lot of seating in the dining area. They have hard cups to use for drinking, but they didn't look too clean, so I used paper cups for drinks. The plates and silverware were fine. After breakfast is cleared, they keep a microwave in that area during the day so my boyfriend and I ate our leftovers downstairs at one point. They also keep condiments, napkins, hot tea and coffee downstairs.
There were a few cons during our stay, but nothing that I'd take off a star for. The elevators are really slow and smelled gross (not nasty or dirty, but like a lingering stink of all the people who use it, I guess). Our room was on the top floor and it seemed like it took forever to go. The shower would leak water onto the floor, but not a lot. There was always a noticeable puddle of water where the 2 sliding doors meet in the middle. It always made our bathroom rug wet. There are no vending machines in the hotel. If you want to get a drink, they serve Starbucks at the bar, and they have bottled drinks and snacks in the cold shelf at the front desk. The bottles are very expensive; I paid $3 for water.
As of April 2017, there is a lot of construction going on around Major Blvd/ Caravan Ct. It made finding the entrance to the Hyatt difficult the first day and the roads are uneven. This is not the hotel's fault, and hopefully the construction will be completed soon.
