Yelp
The Hyatt Place Old Port is a modern, reasonably priced, stylish (for a "budget" brand) with big rooms, nicely furnished, and central to the touristy parts of Portland. Add in a free shuttle to and from the Amtrak station (even long after we'd checked out), it's a very inviting decent place to stay, with only some very minor qualms knocking off a point (the noise and few negatives noted below.)
About the noise: The rooms facing the harbor are noisy due to Pearl Nightclub. If that's a concern for you, ask for a room on the other side. (It didn't bother me, but better sound insulating windows would help overall.)
The pool was small and mostly charmless, but still a nice amenity. The "gym" is laughably small, but in a pinch will do.
The free (at least with my stay) breakfast buffet was pretty good with plenty of tables in the "Glass" bar area and lobby, and a good buffet spread including eggs (scrambled and hard), sausage, French toast, bagels, oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, cereal, etc There were custom-made omelettes available, and the servers were unfailingly polite and helpful in bussing tables when they didn't really have to. I noticed they were especially charming and nice to kids.
The lobby was comfortable and modern with free computers and printers, a fireplace, lots of comfy seating, and till evening, free tea and coffee, cucumber water, and canisters of candy.

Overall a very enjoyable stay -- this was heads and shoulders above my last Hyatt stay (at the Grand Hyatt in NYC - and slightly below the Andaz Savannah -- BOTH of which "should" be overall better hotels.)
