I had 1 night stay at the Hyatt Regency Huntington beach prior to heading up to Anaheim to visit Disneyland at the end of April 2023. All in all it was a solid stay, and would like to come back again when the weather warmer, for a few more days, but would definitely request a quieter room.
The hotel's hacienda-style architecture is stunning and provides a unique touch to the hotel's aesthetic. The grounds are truly stunning and transport you to a tropical oasis, similar to what you might find at resort in Maui only Spanish style.
The hotel is expansive, and it can take up to 10 minutes to walk from one end to the other. However, the walking is worth it, as the hotel's amenities, including the various pools and fitness center, were well-maintained and provided a relaxing atmosphere. The hotel's location, right across from the beach, with a bridge over the highway for easy access along with complimentary beach chairs and umbrellas was very convenient.
During check-in at the Hyatt Huntington Beach, I arrived at 1:30 PM and was informed by the check-in person that my room wasn't ready yet but that housekeeping was in the process of cleaning it. When I asked for a rough time estimate as of when my room would be ready, I was curtly informed that check-in time was at 4 PM. I was given keys to access the pool and was advised I could wait there until my room was ready and I was texted by the hotel at around 3:45 PM advising my room was ready.
While I understand that hotels have specific check-in times to ensure that rooms are properly prepared for guests, the check-in person's attitude and tone could have been a bit more welcoming and accommodating, and I felt they could have perhaps made an attempt to find a room that was available for check-in at the time of my arrival, given I was only staying for 1 night and wanted to get settled in as quick as possible to maximize my time at the hotel.
When I finally checked into my room, I found that it had been upgraded to a 3rd Floor King Ocean View Room. The room was spacious and offered views of the ocean, the decor and furnishings appeared to be slightly dated, and could benefit from some modernization. Additionally, I found the shower pressure to be lower than what I would have liked, which made for a less than optimal showering experience.
Furthermore, there was a noticeable noise transferrence issue in the room. You can hear conversations from the hallway, slamming of neighbour room's doors.
The particular room I was assigned also fronts right onto the Pacific Coast Highway, and it was prone to some noise from passing cars. If I were to stay here again, I would personally prefer a room that's set back further from the highway for a quieter experience.
I had the pleasure of dining at both the informal Surfside Restaurant and the more upscale restaurant, Watertable, during my stay. At the informal Surfside Restaurant, I enjoyed a delicious Ahi Tuna sandwich and a mushroom burger which were both solid.
At Watertable, the upscale restaurant, I enjoyed dinner while listening to live music. I ordered a variety of appetizers, but the most memorable was the bone marrow. The service was attentive, without beng overbearing and the food was expertly prepared.
Overall, despite the initial check-in experience and not being entirely thrilled with the room, I would still highly recommend the Hyatt Huntington Beach for a fun relaxing beach getaway.
