"Behind its fairly unassuming façade, the Hyatt Regency Kyoto is a lair of Zen-inducing design. The sleek, wood-accented interior is minimalist at its core, but garnished with eye-catching details like white lattice panels and walls made out of old books. Guestrooms also feature colorful touches like kimono-fabric headboards and Japanese-style wooden tubs, along with tatami-lined living areas, sliding shoji doors, and more modern comforts like TVs, DVD players, and free Wi-Fi. Three onsite restaurants offer a variety of fare, from wood-fired pizzas to grilled meats to sushi. There’s also a bar with an impressive sake collection, including several local varieties."

"This Higashiyama hotel is conveniently located next to Sanjusangendo – one of Kyoto’s most impressive temples – and across the road from the Kyoto National Museum. The interior, courtesy of design studio Super Potato, incorporates Japanese motifs, while each room has a backdrop of different-coloured kimono silks. The sizeable Regency Executive Suite has a tatami room and a cypress-wood bathtub and offers views over the Japanese garden. The hotel’s restaurants include Trattoria Sette – which serves Italian food – and Touzan, whose seasonal Japanese dishes are made from ingredients mostly sourced in and around Kyoto."

"Here’s a hotel that forces you to dispense with a couple of easy generalizations. The first is the idea that the big chains guarantee a dull experience — not a bad rule of thumb but one with many, many exceptions. And the second is the idea that in Japan, Tokyo is the center of all that’s modern and forward-thinking while Kyoto remains frozen in the feudal past. Again, true enough, to a point — but as the Hyatt Regency Kyoto proves, it’s a bit more complicated than that." - Tablet Hotels

What a wonderful hotel experience! Location was great, walkable to the train which we took to explore the city. The hotel was beautiful and the staff were very friendly on check-in. Our hotel room was spacious and had a gorgeous view of the zen garden. We ordered room service a few times and the food was well prepared and fresh/hot on delivery. We also ate at the hotel breakfast which was delicious. They had a combination of menu ordering and buffet. The wait staff were so sweet and patient with my 1 year old son. Multiple members went out of their way to play with him. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Kyoto and hope to come back soon!

Really great hotel. If you're down to get some steps in, it is walkable to a lot of places like gion, pontcho alley, and down town. It's far enough away from the busier places though that it's very quiet at night. The hotel staff itself was great, rooms were beautiful and very clean. Nespresso machine in the room made great coffee. Only con I would say is the hotel breakfast was pretty darn expensive compared to a lot of the local food. Highly recommend this hotel though.

Disappointing from the start. On check in I was denied my guaranteed Globalist late check out due to availability. This location seems to have developed their own rules for the Hyatt program which clearly entitles late check out to globalist. Only exception for “availability” is for resort properties, casinos and residence locations which this hotel is neither of those. Been a globalist for 6 years and never been denied this until this location. After heading to the bar to relieve my frustration I received the drink in the photo - yes that is a full glass according to the bartender. Fortunately the rest of the service from the team there was excellent so helped offset the poor start. Location is fine, near a notable shrine almost next door, bus stop out front and taxis readily available. Other downside of this hotel is that it has a rather small lobby and breakfast area and there was a conference going on during our stay. 80% of the space at breakfast seemed to be taken up by conference attendees and it took away from the vacation feel. Breakfast was ok but they seem to try and cost save too much on the ingredients- ie limited juice selection and orange juice tasted watered down. While not awful, I stayed at 3 Hyatts during my trip to Japan and this was clearly the lowest ranked. If they don’t take care of their most loyal customers, how are they going to treat you?

My husband and I had a great five nights stay (for 820% discount) at the Hyatt Regency Kyoto! The staff were very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. Dennis in particular went out of his way to make us feel like valued guests! Around with exceptionally comfortable the showers were great and we appreciate the free waters. We would come back again and recommend this particular hotel!

This is tough because the room was nice, the food was good, and they tried very hard, but I came for a relaxing vacation after some heavy tourism in Tokyo and Osaka, and I was unable to relax for a moment at this hotel. The minute I hit the Do Not Disturb light by the door, it was an avalanche of nuisances - they loudly chattered outside my door for several minutes in the early a.m. before jamming a piece of paper under my door to make sure i don't want service. Then they knocked later on. Then the phone rang. On the first day I made the mistake of pulling the covers over my head and letting it go to voicemail. They didn't give up!! They kept calling and calling until I answered, and when I greeted them, they had the gall to say, "We noticed you have the do not disturb light on. Can we do anything to make your stay more pleasant?"||||Until this point I have never yelled at a hotel clerk, a waiter, or any manner of service staff in my life, but I had had it. I had tried for four naps during my stay at the Hyatt Regency in Kyoto, and every single one was disrupted by staff wondering loudly how they they could better "not disturb" me. I told them to leave me alone and then asked the front desk to instruct all staff to leave me alone until checkout time, because I had a long travel day the next day.||||The front desk called me 7 times the next morning, because they had entered my chech out time wrong and then didn't fix it right, and then they wanted to know if i needed a bell hop, and then they forgot when i said so they called back to verify...||||You get the picture.||||||On a bright note, the food was terrific and the staff generally truly seemed like they were friendly and concerned about my stay - it was just way too much. Perhaps this is not a hotel for introverts who enjoy sleep.||||Also, no pool. For that price, add a darned pool.

My wife and I were in here for our honeymoon for 9 days. The staffs are friendly and manager (Mari Inoue) respond to my concern pretty quickly. Especially the luggage desk staffs help us quickly when we need a taxi. Love the hospitality of this property.

Google
Hyatt Regency Kyoto has cockroaches, and management's response is truly disappointing. - My wife and I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Kyoto for part of our honeymoon trip to Japan (our stay was 10/19/25-10/23/25), and due to management's completely inadequate response to a complaint with our stay - a live adult cockroach in our room - I am now cancelling my World of Hyatt credit card and no longer need to maintain any loyalty to the Hyatt brand. Hyatt claims that the Regency Kyoto is a 5-star hotel and the rooms do not live up to 5-star standard in 2025. They were likely very nice rooms in the early 2000s but are definitely tired by modern standards. It feels disingenuous that Hyatt is so intent on calling the Regency Kyoto a 5 star hotel after our stay there. -Cockroach story My wife and I spent four days in the "garden level" (basement 1) of the Hyatt Regency Kyoto in October 2025. The room is fine if a bit dated, the carpet is dingy. As we were packing up to leave on the last day of our stay, my wife saw a cockroach in the bathroom. I confirmed, and sure enough, yep that's a live cockroach scuttling around the bathroom. I got some pictures. We were literally packing to leave, so twenty minutes later we got up to the lobby and spoke with Ayane, the manager on duty. I told her about the cockroach and she was very apologetic. She tried to get us a complimentary taxi ride to Kyoto Station but we had a train to catch so we couldn't wait. I understand there was very little possible to rectify the roach situation in that moment, so hey that's how it goes and we were off to our next leg of the trip. Because we stayed in a room with an unknown number of cockroaches for four days, when we arrived home after our honeymoon, we deep cleaned all our luggage, clothing, possessions, and souvenirs that could have been exposed to roaches or have roach eggs. I emailed Hyatt looking to get some sort of reimbursement for our stay because of our cleaning costs and general disgust regarding what should have been a nice part of our honeymoon, and the answer that came back was "we're sorry but upper management says we can't refund your stay. We would like to offer you 10,000 World of Hyatt Points." This offer of points is a pittance, worth $100 USD at most, and I don't accept any reality that the Hyatt can't offer us at least a partial refund for staying in a "5-star" cockroach hotel room for four days. I rejected their offer, and two days later, another email came from a different manager that they really would like it if I accepted their offer of 10,000 World of Hyatt Points. I rejected it again. I'm not the type to complain about basically any business transaction. I'm usually a very easy customer to please. But in this situation, I feel like Hyatt absolutely does not care about our experience at the Hyatt Regency Kyoto. Their empty responses basically tell me that I should expect roaches at any "5-star" Hyatt hotel, and to not expect anyone from Hyatt to care if I were to encounter another roach at any of their properties again. The cockroach was one thing - I understand the reality of running a large commercial building, let alone a chain of thousands of them. I was ready to let bygones be bygones about the cockroach and chalk it up to Kyoto being an old city. But, the incredibly apathetic response from management has confirmed to me that they don't care what experience I have at any of their hotels. I will be cancelling my World of Hyatt credit card and abandoning any loyalty I have to the brand going forward.

Google
Firstly the service here is def NOT 5 star service. The rooms are very basic, waited all day for the room to be cleaned and it wasn't, the walls are dirty, the carpets are dirty. So far the only thing I like is the bathtub in the shower. Tempted to go book another hotel room as I still have another 3 nights here to go. If you're looking for more of a 5 star hotel the Four Seasons is right around the corner.

Yelp
Room came with fun little man who acted like we were vip guests. W hotel, good pizza at the restaurant, clean room. Great hotel

Yelp
Excellent service and great location. The facility itself is exceptionally clean and a good price. The rooms are well decorated with traditionally Japanese bathrooms and separate area for the water closet. The downstairs bar is only open on Friday and Saturday day evenings. And the restaurant on the main floor only serves beer and wine. Very quiet location and nice zen garden. You can B here the distant gongs at the crack of dawn which adds to the ambience of Kyoto.

Yelp
I love this hotel. That's it. No, just kidding. Such few words would do little justice to how wonderful this place is. At the same time, I don't want to be too breathy so let me contextualize this hotel with as much brevity as I can. From the moment you walk into the hotel you get a Japandi architectural style filling every crevice of the space. Large bamboo and ceramic tiles encapsulate the exterior of this well designed hotel. Intricate lattice style patterns comprise the ceilings and when the clock strikes 7 PM the lights dim and the hotel feels more intimate. There is a floral piece which changes every week right next to the elevator so if you visit over several weeks you can the pleasure to see the changes. The staff are uniquely kind and speak in multiple languages. The hospitality is exceptional but that is expected by now in Japan. Checking in is easy and if you need any assistance they are more than willing to help. When you walk into your room you will be pleasantly surprised how large it is. The bathroom is broken down into three sections: the sink with chair, large basin, and multiple bottles of water replenished even day when the room is serviced. The toilet which is a full bidet. Finally, the tub and shower with large space to accommodate multiple people if a family or couple needed to shower/bathe all together. The room itself contains a large flat screen TV, a Nespresso machine fully operational and free to use, a mini fridge, space on the side for a desk integrated with the other items described, a sprawling headboard area decorated with authentic kimono fabrics, and a large bed you will absolutely love lying on. It is comfortable and a place you can easily fall asleep in after a long day out. One of the reviews I read for this place stated it was missing amenities such as a fitness center but this hotel absolutely has a fitness center and it is a great one. It is clean, has lots of machines, and although it might be confusing at first to get to since there's a certain path to get there it absolutely has a fitness center worth visiting for our gym heads. Another complaint I saw was this place has no restaurants nearby and I don't think this person looked close enough because there are lots of places nearby. If you go down the hill you'll encounter within 5 minutes of walking CoCo Ichibanya for curry, a restaurant that is also a microbrewery for gin, a hole-in-the-wall ramen shop, multiple Family Marts, a dango shop, two cafes, a steak restaurant, a hibachi style BBQ, and McDonald's. This is all before you cross the bridge. This hotel is only about 13 minutes walking distance from Kyoto Train Station and in that area there is an abundance of restaurants. Even within the hotel their Italian restaurant is superb (though a bit pricey) and Cafe 33 is an excellent choice for lunch or drinks. Overall, Hyatt Regency is a hotel that integrates the stylings of Japan's natural beauty along with the hospitality so renowned in their culture in a modern setting and at a good distance from the noise and bustle of city life. I would highly recommend staying in this location in Kyoto if you're looking for a mid to high end hotel experience.

Yelp
I would give this hotel 3.5 stars if possible but bumped it up to 4. The main reasons for not rating it higher is the location which isn't close to much of anything, the lack of amenities at the hotel including a fitness center, and the fact that it is starting to show its age a bit. Given there are no restaurants to speak of within walking distance, we were surprised that the hotel doesn't offer any type of dining after 8:30 PM other than room service. Also, the concierge has a set of recommended restaurants that they do not deviate from. We took their recommendation on two occasions and were disappointed both times. For example, we said we wanted a place with nice atmosphere, and they sent us to a little dive yakitori restaurant where the food was less than average and there was not a single other person there. That said, on the positive side the staff were all very friendly, the breakfast was great, we had a nice view from our room, and the shower and bed were good. On our next trip I would stay either downtown, in Gion, or by the train station to be closer to all that Kyoto has to offer as we spent a lot of time in taxis getting around.

Yelp
We stayed here for 3 nights and had an amazing experience. Concierge was super helpful. We wanted to try 2 or 3 Michelin starrer Kaiseki cuisine and the Concierge staff helped us by calling few restaurants and booking it for us. Super helpful! They have a beautiful bar/lounge area. Very comfortable and relaxing lounge setting. Good Japanese whiskey selections and very helpful and knowledgeable staff. We wanted to try their Fried Chicken but it was sold out as we ordered little late. They send us complimentary Duck appetizers which was super delicious. Breakfast in their restaurants have both buffet and a-la-carte options which is very helpful. We will certainly stay here when we visit Kyoto next time.

Yelp
Booked this hotel because of the reviews I read on Yelp but it was soooo disappointing. Only the lobby area felt like a 4 star with its bamboo ceiling interior design. When I got into our room it was too minimalistic and cramped to be rated as a 4-star hotel. I'm not sure if it's because of the obstructed view or what but the vibe of the room was soooo depressing. The room specially the bathroom and bath tub was very dated. The black tiles looked dirty. The only good thing I can say about the room is the spacious bed. There were just a few guests in the hotel maybe less than 10 so I do not understand why they cannot offer the best rooms available to the customers who are willing to pay and stay in a hotel amidst the pandemic. There's no restaurants nearby the hotel so you're stuck on eating what the hotel has to offer. I will never spend $350+ for this hotel ever again. Btw, the 2 stars are for the courteous service from staff that greeted us when we arrived. When we checked out not even a Sayonara or a bow we usually get from a 3-star hotel. Will definitely NOT recommend this hotel.

Yelp
Central location, good Japanese restaurant, great pizza from room service. Concierge is a bit mixed (didn't know where to send out bulk laundry to, could not find a soba place within 20 minutes, etc) but otherwise great place. Nice staff at front desk and bell staff. Very clean rooms with nice finishes.

Yelp
The Hyatt Regency Kyoto was a nice property conveniently located outside of the city center tourist zone, but close enough that most of the city was a few minute ride via taxi or bus. The property itself was quite nice. The room was a good size and well appointed. I particularly liked the in-room iPad from which I could order anything I needed whether it be additional towels or food. Another nice touch was the champagne reception the first night of my stay which was highlighted by the Geisha performance which was simply amazing. Overall, a really great stay at a property that I hadn't visited in the past

Yelp
By far the best Hyatt Regency (will update after Tokyo's Hyatt Regency) in Japan. Osaka was almost a let down after Kyoto's stay. This place felt like a pure 5 star hotel with warmth and hospitality from everyone and just pure elegance and class. The lobby and rooms were super clean and was very updated. There is a free MK taxi shuttle that only runs from 9 am to 6 pm. The taxi place is hard to find as it's across the street from Kyoto stations main entry. Not easy to spot amongst the busy station. The hotel is about a 7-10 min cab ride from Kyoto station depending on traffic and Kyoto is a somehow congested city. Pros: - staff were amazing and warm. Concierge - all 3 were exceptional and patient in providing local eateries we were interested in (not tourists), directions to sights and tips for the best logistics. All of them spoke great English and were beyond wonderful. - about 7-10 min walk to the train station; decently close to Gion yet still in a quiet neighbourhood - a couple of nearby bus stops - there is a lovely bakery about 5 mins down the street as well as family mart plus some small eateries. - geisha show is at 615 pm nightly with complimentary sparkling wine but we missed that - lots of toiletries in the room, great shower pressure and outlets by the bed. Room was quiet. Good wifi. - right next to Sanjusangen-do temple which was beautiful and worth a visit to see the 1,000 buddhist statues Cons: - honestly nothing comes to mind.

Yelp
We loved our 4-day stay here. The staff is exceptional and we experienced some of the best hospitality here as compared to any other hotel we have stayed at in the US and other countries. If you're arriving to Kyoto via Kyoto Station they offer a complimentary one-way taxi to the hotel via MK taxi and it's located across the street. (Ask hotel for directions) The rooms are beautiful and although we had the option to upgrade to a higher floor on our second day we decided not too since we were out from ~9am-6/7pm sight seeing and just coming back to sleep. Wonderful amenities in the room (see picture attached). They also have a spa & gym. They have two options for breakfast: Western or Japanese. We opted for the western breakfast most days. BREAKFAST RECOMMENDATIONS: - FRENCH TOAST - Omelette... or eggs any style - Lots of delicious fruit and breads to choose from - I basically recommend everything During cherry blossom season they have: - Bento boxes for Hanami (book 2 days in advance) - Free calligraphy/origami classes in the evening - Bike tour - Yoga/exercise classes This is an ideal location in Kyoto. - 7 minute walk to the train station - Several bus tops within a few minutes - There are always taxis available too We were able to easily get to all the major destinations in Kyoto (Fushimi Inari, Mt Arashiyama, Philosophers Path, Nara etc) Room service is incredible too! Their is an iPad in the room where you can request items for your room (e.g., fresh towels, iron etc.) and food.

Yelp
Here's what you need to know: this is the best Hyatt "Regency" level property I've ever stayed at. Just a small step below Park Hyatt level. Fantastic! The service is beyond your wildest expectations. The bed in the deluxe room is 50% larger than a king. wow! The architecture and look is a perfect balanced mix between the East and the West - the perfectly elegant, minimalistic, and serene Japanese look, and the familiar and comforting western styling. The Maiko (geisha in training) performance they have several times/week is a fantastic offering, and unique to the hotel. The cafe is very good, with a nice breakfast buffet and snack menu in the late afternoon (see my detailed review of the restaurant). Our garden facing room was excellent. It's the largest bed I've ever slept on, and the room is extremely spacious, well adorned and comfortable. The service is the heart and soul of this hotel, and everybody from the reception to the concierge is so gracious, welcoming, and warm in how they greet and treat you throughout the stay that it's infectious. I won't stay at any other hotel in Kyoto. This one is perfect 5 star luxury. Our room was $300/night in mid Jan.

Yelp
Conveniently located across from the Kyoto National Museum and next to Sanjusangendo. The hotel is easy to get to from Kyoto station. When coming from Kyoto Station I highly recommend taking MK Taxi. It's a complimentary ride. The MK Taxi stand is located across from Kyoto Station. Just let the front desk staff at MK Taxi know you are a guest of Hyatt and they will arrange the ride. At the hotel the staff was amazing and made the experience unforgettable. They made absolute sure all accommodations were met. One of the bonus for staying at the Hyatt is a live performance by a maiko san (younger geisha). Next time we visit Kyoto we know of a place to stay!

Yelp
This might be one of the nicest Hyatt Regency world wide. This hotel is located among several local cultural and religious sites. It is super convenient for walking sightseeing. The Kyoto national museum is right across the street. Want to see 1,001 life size individual golden buddhas in a 800 year old temple? Well thats conveniently located next door at a UNESCO world heritage site. The staff here are outstanding and will go out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. The restaurants on site are superb. The breakfast buffet features japanese style breakfast as well as western. In the evenings the hotel features a Geisha dancer on the lower level. The decor is beautiful, the hotel spotless, everything fresh and new. As of 8/19 there was no longer a regency club on site. Free taxi to the Hyatt from Kyoto train station. Double highly highly recommend. This is the best hotel in Kyoto!!!

Yelp
We stayed here for three nights at the beginning of November while adventuring around Kyoto. It's centrally located. There's a national museum across the street that seemed to always have a line. Japanese people really know how to appreciate their own culture. At check in, the receptionist provided us with a list of all the areas with fall foliage and the percentage of color change. It had the kind of precision that I had assumed about Japan, but it was still funny when the guy showed it to us. The 1000 Buddha shrine next door is definitively worth a visit. They do not have a lounge, so to make up for that they gave us free drink vouchers for the Touzan bar. The decor of the bar strikes the perfect note between comfortable and edgy. They use a lot of wood and glass that creates illusions where light cascades in a deep dreamy state. Either that or I was always very tired. The whiskey selection, Japanese and otherwise was extensive, or at least that's what my husband tells me. They lost a star because of the room which I feel bad for penalizing them because the staff was great. But the room was just very stilted and rather uncomfortable. The closet had a door that always blocked the main door and the shower clean agent was always a little too strong for me.

Yelp
Hyatt Regency Kyoto - We recently spent 6 nights (June 17-22, 2018) at this wonderful hotel. FYI the Hyatt Regency Kyoto offers a complimentary one-way taxi ride from the JR Kyoto Station to the hotel upon arrival as a service if you have booked your stay through any Hyatt reservation center. We used this perk when we arrived from Tokyo on the Shinkansen train. It was a great introduction to the exceptional service offered by the hotel and staff. Upon checking in we were escorted to our second floor room which was a disappointment because it faced an interior courtyard wall. I went down and spoke to the front desk and asked, since we were staying here for 6 nights, if we could change to a room with direct sunlight exposure. I was told that no other rooms were currently available, but if we could wait about 45 minutes they could accommodate us. We agreed and said that we would wait in the lobby until a room became available. The Duty Manager, Hitoshi Nakajima, was made aware of the situation. He investigated the options and assigned a new room to us within 10 minutes. The new corner room was located on the fourth floor and was flooded with sunlight. This high level of service became the norm for the balance of our stay. The hotel is very conveniently located with a subway station down the street and buses stopping in front and around the corner to all the city's major attractions. Taxis also seemed plentiful. The hotel is an 8 minute taxi ride or a 12 minute bus ride to the hustle and bustle of the amazing Kyoto Station which serves more as a town center than just a train station. The hotel is also across the street from the Kyoto National Museum and within walking distance to the Sanjusangendo and Chishakuin temples. The Kyoto Hyatt was the most tranquil and beautiful hotel we stayed in during our 3+ weeks of traveling in Japan, but what really makes the hotel stand out is the staff. Before leaving home I had reserved two Imperial tours for us through the Imperial Household Agency but could not translate all the paperwork that was emailed to me. Andrew Falger, one of the concierge, did that and much more. He mapped out how to get there as well as other attractions we might find of interest close to the Imperial Gardens. The garden tour is quite delightful and well worth the effort to arrange. Mr. Falger's other suggestions were also fantastic, especially the Nijo-jo Castle. We highly recommend this hotel and already have to several traveler friends and we will definitely stay here again on our next visit to Kyoto. On the morning we were leaving for Kyoto Station to catch the Shinkansen to Osaka it was raining quite heavily. Once again the hotel rose to the occasion and Mr. Nakajima offered to have the hotel's car service take us to the train station so that we would not get wet nor miss our train. It was greatly appreciated.

Yelp
We stayed here for 3 nights while passing through Kyoto. Beautiful lounge and reception area and everyone that worked there was so nice and friendly to us and our 2 little kids. Rooms were small for the 4 of us but we managed just fine. As long as the bathtub was big enough, the kids were happy. They provided nice toiletries and room service was always good. I enjoyed the breakfast they served in the mornings and it was nice to have a variety of Eastern foods as well as Western foods. Coffee was great and a nice spread of foods as well as cooks to prepare eggs for you. We ate at the Italian restaurant upstairs (the spiral stair case) and it was pretty good. We were disappointed that when we ordered, we specified we wanted 1 set of the meal and due to the communication with the waitress we wound up with 2 (which we didn't realize until the bill arrived---ouch!) We paid regardless but know for future to be more specific about how we order. Besides the negative experience at the Italian restaurant, I can't say anything negative. Its conveniently located near a bus stop so we could take it to and from the shopping and restaurants and also there was a taxi always available at the hotel if we needed it. I would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
Wonderful hotel in Kyoto with a nice convenient location. The room was fantastic, really nicely laid out and with a lot of space that the Hyatt Regency in Tokyo lacks. The bathroom was elegant, despite a strange step in front of the shower that we were constantly tripping over. The whole experience really felt quite luxurious. Location is super convenient, right next to a bus station and a short walk from a subway station. The reason they don't get five stars is the western breakfast was not that good, definitely not what you expect for the price it costs. A fair selection of hot food, but nothing spectacular and no omelette / eggs cooked to order included.

Yelp
If I ever make it back to Kyoto, I wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else. Definitely one of the best (if not THE best) hotels I've stayed in. I came to Kyoto after spending a few nights at the Hyatt Regency Tokyo, which was fine...but this one is MUCH nicer. The room was absolutely beautiful. Very clean. "Wet room" in the bathroom area with deep soaking tub and separate shower with adjustable/removable nozzle and stool if you care to sit. Separate toilet area with fancy washlet toilet. The staff was extraordinarily helpful and friendly/approachable. 2 nights out of my 4 night stay I stumbled upon a maiko performance happening in the lobby, which felt a little touristy, but was very cool. I splurged and ordered room service one night and had some of the best steak I've had in my life! I had breakfast at the restaurant downstairs one morning and was seated next to the window overlooking the rock "zen" garden, which was very pleasant....I loved the personalized tablet in the room that you could use to order room service or make a taxi reservation request, among other customer service requests. The Touzan bar downstairs is beautiful. Even if you don't have a drink, you should definitely poke your head in and check out the space. Very cool space, and great drinks. I wish I'd tried the restaurant, too. Highly highly recommend!

Yelp
Very nice hotel, but the standard room is a little sub par after coming from the Hyatt Regency in Tokyo and Hakone. Pros: Free taxi upon arrival at Kyoto Station, very friendly staff, beautiful hotel, respectable on site Italian restaurant when we didn't feel like fighting the rain. Cons: Room is very tight with 2 twin beds. The bathroom is very nice, but takes up about half of the room. No pool and the hotel is not the most accessible unless taking cabs.

Yelp
Many people say this hotel is the best in Kyoto and I'd have to agree. From the moment we exited our taxi, the staff here was eager to greet us with genuine Japanese hospitality and were there to help us in any little way. We stayed at a few nice hotels throughout our trip, but the level of service at this hotel was on another level. We opted for one of the less expensive rooms but we were treated like VIP guests throughout our visit. The woman who helped us at check-in carried our luggage down to our garden level room herself and gave us a personal tour of deluxe room and its amenities. Whenever we needed to catch a taxi, the concierge would print out a map of our destination for us and give it the taxi driver so we could get there promptly. This hotel isn't super central but is located 5-10 mins by taxi from the main shopping area in Kyoto. Rates in July started in the mid $300's for standard rooms (but still large and well equipped). Despite the heavier price tag, I wouldn't hesitate returning here on my next visit to Kyoto.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel. Love the shower and bath setup with small stool in the shower to allow you to sit and rinse off the day.Highlights include complimentary one way taxi service from Kyoto station. A nice complimentary bottle of wine was included in our welcome in addition to one complimentary breakfast each via room service. The gym was up to date and appeared fully equipped for fitness junkies. Overall good impression of the hotel and their staff even helped me get a taxi after hours to get my late night ramen fix. Great overall stay and beautiful property and amenities.

Yelp
I love love love this hotel. Although we stayed during one of busiest times of the year(cherry blossom season) the staff was kind, helpful and very courteous. The rooms we stayed in were gorgeous! They were not large like in the states however we weren't expecting that as this was Japan. The beautiful Japanese accents were quite lovely. The shower and tub were especially nice after a long day of touring. They also offer rides to view the cherry blossoms and have a nightly geisha performance. The subway station was a short walk from the hotel.

Yelp
This is one of the most beautiful hotels I've ever stayed. The mix of eastern style with western was done so well. Service here is also impeccable-- I got car sick on the way over, so the hubby asked if we could check in a bit earlier, which they nicely allowed, but what brought the service over the top, was when we checked out, the front desk agent asked if I was feeling better! Such a small gesture, but meant so much. (:

Yelp
By far the best hotel I've stayed at in Japan (including Kyoto, Tokyo, Osaka, Nara, and Kumamoto). I don't qualify for perks based on status so I can't compare my experience with that to Redcat's, but as a regular person with zero status, I was blown away by my experience here. The hotel itself is elegant and is what you would expect from Hyatt; however, what really gets the 5 stars here is the customer service. The staff was incredibly helpful and polite. Everyone at the front desk and concierge speaks great English, so you won't have any troubles communicating what it is you need help with. From the first moment my family checked in and had to switch rooms around (we had originally booked a room for 2 online and when we tried to amend it for 3 people it wouldn't let us) the front desk staff was first-rate. They apologized for the issue we had online and immediately set to trying to find us a larger room. They ended up putting us in an ADA-compliant room on the ground floor and offered to bring a third roll-out bed so we wouldn't have to share. Since we arrived before check-in, they held our luggage while we went to grab lunch in the shopping area near Kiyomizu-dera. When we returned to the hotel, someone walked up to our room (our luggage had already been placed inside) and showed us how to use all the appliances and other items in our room. For the three days we stayed there, I made frequent trips to the concierge desk to get directions and figure out which locations I should visit first. The staff was always very helpful to answer my questions, draw me maps, and to hail a cab to get me places when it was too far to walk. Overall, I don't have anything negative to say about this place except that I wish it were a little closer to Kyoto Station (it's about a 5-minute taxi ride). Nevertheless, I had a great time and I would certainly recommend it to others! Note: We didn't eat at the hotel because we opted for things like Mister Donut, a Maiko Dinner, and quaint little soba shops while we were in the area. However, the dinning area looked great and smelled delicious.

Yelp
Best Hyatt Regency I have stayed at by FAR. Unlike a run of the mill hotel room for a business traveler, this is more like a high end hotel that can be used by both family and business traveler. From what I gather, hotels in Kyoto are in very limited supplies. Therefore a hotel like this in their price range is a very good deal. The staff were extremely friendly (like all Japanese hotels), rooms were clean and they felt very NEW. It didn't feel like an old hotel stuck in the 90s or early 2000s. They also gave a one way free taxi ride from Kyoto station, saves me 900 yen. Don't let the Regency name fool you, this can easily be a Park Hyatt if they make a few small changes!!!

Yelp
Extremely friendly staff, the room was extremely clean and nice smelling. Very quite considering being next to busy streets. The food at all the restaurants was delicious and very well presented. The western and Japanese breakfast were both amazing. I booked this hotel due to the reviews and I wasn't disappointed at all. And the spa / massage was perfect after a long day sight seeing. Do yourself a favor and spoil yourself here for a couple of days.

Yelp
Western and Japanese styles coexist. Sophisticated and elegant. When I came to see some exhibition in Kyoto National Museum, I sometimes stopped in. I've not stayed yet and only had lunch at the Italian restaurant here. It costs at least around 1500 yen. Not only meals but also elaborate and beautiful Japanese-style garden in the hotel are splendid! It is about 5 minutes walk from the nearest station. You have to walk on a slight slope, so if you want, you can call it to pick you up.

Yelp
Good location and beautiful hotel. Taxis are right there just waiting to be requested. Staff is very friendly. Breakfast is excellent. So is the fitness room, with top quality equipment.

Yelp
Not the best Hyatt in Japan by a long shot. I'm a platinum member with Hyatt and got a room with a very poor obstructed view and a very stale smelling bathroom. The whole operation felt quite dated and I didn't receive the perks I normally get as an elite member of their loyalty program. Would recommend a local chain or a different American chain than this property.
