From the street this place is very unassuming but if you wander inside it is awesome! The different rooms offer a maze-like walk through the store that makes it fun and easy to get lost digging in the bins :) very friendly staff inside as well!

Poorly ran business. The selection appeals to a very specific taste, that is not common amongst people under 50... I've been a regular at the next door coffee shops since 1995 and despite my best efforts could never find an excuse to buy anything from hymie. The owner Adam Taylor is emotionally immature, rude, weird, and frankly annoying.

Came here for my very first Record Store Day. It looks small, but it's bigger on the inside! They have SO many records here. Ones that I didn't even know exist were here, too! Very affordable prices. Scored some 45s. Even if you find nothing you like, it's still super just to look around a bit! Will definitely be coming here again. :)

Love this store. It was my first time being there (had just gotten a record player for free and my family’s old records) and wanted to check it out. Got so many good albums and also bought stuff I’ve never heard of or thought “why not, for $4.” Such a great place. Will be back soon.

Great record shop! Went in yesterday looking for a specific record which they ended up not having - but the individual working contacted another record store to help me find it, which was so above and beyond what they needed to do and I so appreciated it!! I will definitely be going to Hymie's for all my record needs in the future!! Side note: they can special order stuff for you too!

The store is amazing - great stuff, hidden treasures but what makes it even better -Adam, friendly, kind and fair. Adam was fantastic to work with - I recommend this shop for buying or selling.

So... I went to hymies for the first time because they were recommended on Reddit as a good place to sell records... I brought in a few boxes and was told it would take the day to go through. Later they called and told me they were keeping some and others they didnt want and to come and pick up the cash and records they didn't want.... I went in to pick up what they had rejected.. I was handed the cash and told to take the crate. I even said (as should be on their cameras!) I brought my items in boxes, are they sure I should take the crate? They insisted it would be fine for me to take... well.. found these messages in my filtered "unknown senders" today... lovely business guys. Thanks for the horrific insults because of your mistake... and thanks for the lovely curse. Please don't stalk and harass me at 1am because your mad your employee made a mistake. You had no reason to make the accusations and insults you did other than your own fears and insecurities as you're up late at night thinking and obsessing over me. This is not acceptable behavior on so many levels. I can't believe I have to say this to an adult. Every action has a consequence. Had I checked my filtered messages sooner perhaps we could have avoided this childish outburst and I wouldn't have known this side of you. Perhaps you have an amazing business but unfortunately I'll now have to warn people about you. It's not a good business or life practice to make assumptions about people, especially such negative ones, because your assessment could be incredibly incorrect. You don't know who a stranger is and who they might know, better to assume the best and always treat everyone with respect. You're definitely doing a great job of being authentic to the world about who you truly are, perhaps you should spend some of your sleepless nights focusing inwards instead.

The provider has a vast knowledge of many musical genres and can help you find the grooves you need. Stop in and test his math skills yo!

My buddy and I wanted to stop at a couple record stores before we left the Minneapolis area and Hymie's was high on the list. It's a really cool record shop. The guy working their was super nice and answered all of our questions. He had a few rare records and some good new/used records in the racks. Even though I didn't buy anything, (my buddy did), it was a really good experience and I would go back again.

this record store used to be awesome. been in quite a few times lately hoping to find something, sifting through lots of bob dylan and even elvis to find an album they're asking $65 for, typical record store stuff these days, but head over to barely bros rex in st. paul and see what $65 gets you. or disco death. both places ask a lot too, but you at least don't have to sift thru doors records for 20 mins to find $40 records with scuffs. when you walk in the door, the old grumpy guy doesn't even look up from his readers digest. prolly have to buy some herb alpert to see a smile. maybe i'll try that.

The new owner (the dog guy) is very, VERY choosy about what he buys -- which is fine, it's his place -- but quite contrary to how Dave and Laura ran it. Meanwhile, there's stuff on the shelves that I know has been there since Hymie was alive. If they need space, they could put about 1/5 of their inventory in a Dumpster and it wouldn't be missed. Still a cool place, but....

One of my favorite record stores in the Twin Cities. Over the years I've found hundreds of hidden treasures there for good prices. And it's such a fun, cozy place to visit, with extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff. I haven't been since COVID hit, but I can't wait to go back and hang out.

I enjoyed browsing this store on a lazy Saturday afternoon. There was a very large selection of records but not as much in the Country section as I would hope but I still managed to come out of there with a few winners for myself. Prices are good on stuff that others may not know about so if you like various artist be sure and look for some of those less recognizable by the general public. I like that it is relaxed in there and large with lots of space. Go for brunch up the road at the Hi-Lo and then take a little tour of Hymie's.

Hymie's is definitely my favorite neighborhood (Longfellow) record shop! It looks small from the outside but this place is PACKED with vinyl gems. Soul, rock, funk, country, ska, alternative, jazz, soundtracks... Hymie's has a super diverse assortment of music. I found an Eartha Kitt compilation, Elvis Perkins' Ash Wednesday, and a dub compilation among many others. Also, they have a huge section of 45s which could take a whole day to explore. The records are also very reasonable priced. I love that Hymie's has places to sit too... nice when you're waiting for your friend to finish picking out their records. Hymie's owner is super friendly, talkative, and helpful too. Overall, I can't wait to revisit Hymie's!

They have a large selection of all types of genres. I really enjoyed the vibe here. There is a ton of new, re-released records so If you're looking for original releases I would look elsewhere.

Came in from Boston and did a google search for used record stores near me....Hymies's did not disappoint! I would say that this was the most categorized, interesting, just freakin' coolest used record (they sell new too) shop I have ever been to. The owner, David, is very personable and friendly. He also recommended a killer Indian restaurant about 12 blocks North where I had some VERY good saag and onion chutney. David- you made my night, man! Highly recommend Hymies's!

All of this just feels right. I have only been to a handful of record shops, but this one takes the cake. I put together a scavenger hunt for my partner's birthday and placed this in the lineup for the day. I wasn't sure what to expect....I love everything vintage....him, not so much but he loves music. We both ended up loving it. The place is so much bigger than it appears. It just keeps going back further and further. There are cool resturant-style booths set up in the middle, and there is a listening station as well. Categories are laid out pretty easily to figure out for all of us record shop newbies. I felt cooler just by being in Hymie's. There were lots of good records and cool artwork up in the shop as well. The lady working was friendly enough but allowed customers to browse around at will. If you like music I would for sure recommend checking it out.

I have only been to Hymie's once but I loved my experience there! I love a store like this. Mostly used lps and 45's, good selection that on the day I was there! I was quite impresses that they had so many classic albums that I think every collection should have! I was there pre- all these re releases of stuff, and now most of these lps you can by and any Barnes and Nobles.. But the fact of the matter is, owning a copy from a 1st or 2nd pressing warms my hear just a little bit more then a new shiny piece of wax! This store has those classic and more! I look forward to getting back here at some point! Great little shop!

Having lived within walking distance of Hymie's when I was in Minneapolis, I regret not having stopped by more often than I did. All the dust made me sneeze, though, so that's probably why I only visited occasionally. The dust, though, just goes along with the territory -- a great selection of used LP's at very reasonable prices. The staff was always friendly and generous with the Hymie's stickers, which was much appreciated. If you find yourself crusing down that part of Lake Street, it's worth a visit.

Every time I come here I find something I need to add to my record collection. This is by far my favorite record store I have ever been to. Anytime I'm close to the cities I come here. It's usually a once a month I am there. Such an amazing unique little place. I could spend hours there and never get tired of it. If I have a free day, it's usually spent here.

We'd heard Hymie's is legendary and my boyfriend remembered visiting it in the '90s. We found a large, well-ordered store, with lots of selection, creative art and album covers on the walls, and '70s easy chairs that look like they've launched 100,000 sits. We were greeted by an arthritic but sweet Boston terrier (always a bonus) and, later, by another unexpected pet - a mouse that has apparently tried to move in since the neighboring restaurant closed. It freaked me out a little bit, hey, mice need shleltwr too, I guess. Overall, we enjoyed the layout and organization of the place. Giggled a bit over some of their 'special' categories: 'Difficult listening,' educational records (subtitled with something like: 'Do something with your life already!'), adult 'topless' records (which turn out to be all men), etc. They seemed to have a bit of everything, although I was surprised by how shallow the selection was for some artists. (Do I really need every Kim Carnes' record ever made, while I can't find anything but an overpriced 'Best of' record and a bunch of Ric Ocasek under The Cars?) Prices seemed a little high in some areas, especially when we took out the records and saw some vinyl that was not worth the price tag. This is also a good place for local bands; my partner found Flavor Crystals and Chatham Rise here. My biggest complaint, besides the selection not being quite as amazing as legend has it: The lady behind the counter was cold and not helpful. It irks me when hipster places feel like 'cool' equals disinterested and rude. In the end , they are still a business and should at least feign interest in their customers. I don't want to feel like I need to fit some kind of 'cool' standard to shop there.

One of the best record shops I've ever been in and I've been in quite a few! Go give this many your business.

The fun of delving into vinyl on a rainy day was deeply marred after the sales were complete. My companion waited for me to bring the car around so the albums we'd purchased would not get wet. While he waited for me to return with the car in the entry way where the door had been left open the whole time we were in the store he observed the store's dog walking toward the street through this open door. The man in the store started an argument with my friend about the dog and physically shoved my friend out through the door into the heavy down pour. The man in the store blamed my friend for the dog walking through the open door which had been open the entire time we were browsing. Seems the store worker was having a very bad day to assault a customer. I don't know if this was the owner or an employee but either way it was incredibly inappropriate. One surly star!

Huge selection and great prices! Adam always has an ear out and many times a record I was looking for shows up a few days later. It's impossible not to find something unique. Always have a great time talking to Adam!

I've collected vinyl since a very young age, and have alway's loved this store. Before the internet places like this were not only where to buy records, they were also where to find information. Didn't know who sang a certain song? All you had to do was sing a little of it for Hymie and he'd tell you who it was. He was such a cool guy, really knew his stuff, I learned alot about music in talking with him. Sadly Hymie died about 10 years ago, but thankfully the shop's still there, although it is now in a different location. Even if you're not crazy about listening to music on vinyl, you gotta love the old album covers, truly works of art. You can buy frames for album covers at many art stores, even Target, they look great hanging up, especially on a rec room wall. If all you wan't is a cover then you can browse records that are scratched a bit and are dirt cheap. The prices here aren't that bad on really good shape ones either, and LPs cost alot of money to ship if ordered online. It is so much fun browsing the bins in this store, and music nostalgia is everywhere.The've even got some antique record shop furnishings with label names like Columbia, RCA, and Mercury. I wish they sold that stuff here too, never seen anything like it anywhere else.

I feel this record store needs to be visited multiple times to be appreciated fully. I took my first trip to Hymie's today, and walked away with a record I have been looking for in good shape over the last few years: Pink Floyd's "I Wish You Were Here". There it was, in the "Recent Arrivals" bin, and only 8 bucks. Overall I found the prices to be very reasonable. This store is very well organized...you can tell the owner and staff love vinyl, and obscure music. They have a ton of 45s...I mean a ton, maybe even two tons? They have a lot. I will definitely have to go back often....since I bet this place has quite a bit of turnover with the great location, and loyal customer base. I'm a fan. I grabbed a Hymie's sticker for free on my way out to boot.

Hymie's looks and feels like a used records store should. Mellow, friendly staff, eclectic decor (love the old turntables displayed throughout), and always something interesting on the sound system. Their selection is skewed heavily toward oldies and "classic rock." If you're looking for anything from the 80s forward (including new releases), you may not find it here. Hymie's also has what is probably the largest selection of used 7" records I have seen anywhere. Everything is well organized, and prices are extremely fair.

Amazing little record store. Large selection to browse, its like an attic full of old albums (hence, can be a little dusty), vintage feel to the whole place, but very NEAT and well organized...I can spend hours there browsing! Prices are pretty cheap. Too bad there wasnt a huge selection for the artists I was browsing for, but hopefully I will have better luck next time. Needless to say, Im a fan. ...also did I mention the great jazz music they had on while I was inside browsing! Loved it.

It's a great record store. I consistently find records that are hard to find and reasonably priced.

Large, all-vinyl record store in the Longfellow neighborhood of Minneapolis. While I'm not quite as over-the-top enthusiastic as some people are about this shop, I am still a fan. Hymie's has a large selection of used vinyl records, including lots of 45s. The stock includes a variety of genres -- rock, R&B, country, jazz, soundtracks, etc. -- up to about the 1980s. Everything is priced reasonably, and the customer service is always outstanding. If you're an oldies fan, you'll probably like the selection here. That's the niche that Hymie's serves in the Twin Cities -- older music, including some 1950s and 1960s rock and R&B albums, on vinyl. I haven't been overly impressed by the level of stock turnover when I've made multiple visits to Hymie's within a few weeks, but I've only done that a few times, so it's hard to draw conclusions from that small a sample size. Overall, it's very nice to have a large all-vinyl shop like Hymie's around that has many records you can't find elsewhere in the Twin Cities.

Love this place! Can't walk out with out spending a bit. But I always get a lot for my money and it is totally worth it!!!

I love the colour of this building. They have tons of records, a helpful staff with a wish list, tons of band's flyers so you're always updated, and sometimes they have shows here. Oh yeah and they have those little books to put your 45s in and sometimes they have writing from the original owner so you can peek into the real musical life of a teenager in the 50s.

Great vintage record store! Make sure you allow yourself a lot of time as you'll need it. Excellent selection and helpful owner.

Neat shop with a large selection of used records of all genres. I've found some really strange releases here. If you're looking for 45s this is a great stop.

If you're coming from out of town and have one place to stop for records this is it. Ridiculously low prices on a huge assortment of all genres. If you're looking for a sweet deal on older music stop here before you go to any of the other record shops. This will be a perpetual stop on my visits to the Twin Cities, hell it's a top reason to visit the Twins.

Wall-to-wall vinyl. Any record enthusiast would be in bliss upon walking into Hymie's. The selection is widespread and the prices are very reasonable--on average $2-$3 for a LP. Listening stations are great to check the quality bad content of the records. Cute coffee shop is attached in case you need a boost or your stomach starts growling in the hours you could get lost perusing all the records. Two thumbs up.

When I close my eyes and imagine what a record shop should look like, that mental image is Hymies. The shop has a great selection of well-curated vinyl (and 45s) that are reasonably priced. Poking through the records is a great way to spend a few hours. You'll probably find something great to spin. If you don't have that kind of time, the staff has always been helpful when I had questions.

I moved to Minneapolis from Chicago about a year ago and haven't found a vinyl record store I've really liked yet. I thought that I would try Hymie's seeing as how it is fairly close to my house. When I walked in the door, I felt a little overwhelmed (but in a good sense) in regards to the size of the shop. I didn't know where to start, there is a huge selection of vinyl to browse. Everything is organized in a way that makes sense to anybody coming in off the street and the prices aren't ridiculous. The gentleman working there was very pleasant and told me about future events at the store later in the month. There are also couches and chairs equipped with turntables and headphones to give records a listen. The atmosphere of the store is also pleasant and comfortable. There isn't any sort holier than thou music snobbery vibe either. I would recommend Hymie's Vintage Records to anyone!

one of my 5 favorite record stores i've been to. first day in minneap and my one local friend said he heard it was cool, so we got lit and checked it out. wow. walking in i could tell - success! king curtis, yup. JGW yup. lesbian folk, yup! too many 45s. don't know if they sell any recent releases, don't care. awesome! can't wait till im back! Thanks Hymies!

My favorite record store in the Twin Cities. Good stock, no junk. Lots of stuff you won't find at other record stores. Everything is priced at the lower end of what it should be. Their monthly/bi-monthly sales featuring cheap LPs (usually around $.50) and 45s (around $.10) are a nice way to roll the dice on some records you otherwise wouldn't and find new music.

My favorite record shop. I always find something when I stop in and the prices are fair and the records are well organized. Probably the best selection of 45's in town. They have free all-ages shows on the weekends, the owners are super nice and knowledgeable, and there is a cute dog running around sometimes - so it's basically awesome.

I went to Hymie's for my first time yesterday. I was recommended by a friend and was thrilled to go. It's an awesome record store, huge selection of vinyls. Great customer service and I could spend countless hours at this store.

large selection, reasonable prices. I didn't find anything too rare or unique, but you could definitely fill out your collection here. Make the trip. Well worth it.

I can easily spend hours browsing and listening at Hymie's. Some of the sections are good for a laugh.. Difficult Listening, Awkward Christian Music, The Movie Was So Bad But the Soundtrack Was So Good, etc. It's connected to the Blue moon coffee shop.

I was in the market to buy a refurbished/used turntable. After searching online, I was recomended to Hymie's. Couldn't ask for a better experience. The owner walked me through everything I needed to know about purchasing/playing/upkeep/other needs. Fantastic experience. Will revisit within the next two weeks.
