Yelp
Hy's Fried is a unique chicken eatery and cocktail bar, located in a discreet old roadside building on MA Route 23 in Egremont, just several feet east of the NY State Line near Catamount Mountain. The atmosphere inside has a classic retro feel with fireplace, disco balls, DJ/record booth, red & black checkered linoleum floors, red & white booths, red chairs & tables, order takeout counter, and a small cocktail bar with 7 high red seats.
The food menu offerings include fried chicken, chicken sandwich, biscuits, slaw, cauliflower, waffles, potato salad (served hot) and ice cream sandwich. The drink menu offers beer, wine, cocktails, and non-alcoholic drinks such as juices, fresh lemonade, Mexican Coke, old egg cream, ginger beer, Dr. Browns, and Topo-Chico.
For takeout, they strongly encourage ordering online through Toast. With the Toast app on my phone, I ordered The Sando ($14 plus tax) and Potato Salad ($9 plus tax). I was greeted by name as I walked in since staff already knew I just ordered online. My food was all set to go in under 10 minutes.
The Chicken Sando was huge, a very crispy breaded boneless thigh topped with pickles and slaw, special sauce on a soft Kings Hawaiian bun. The Potato Salad did not look like a typical cold potato salad, but served hot with gold spuds, mayo, ground mustard, olive oil, BBQ salt, celery, vinegar, dill pickle, red onion, scallion, and lemon juice. The food I had was great and had nice flavors. I would definitely stop back again, but stay for the food, drinks, and vibes.
