The photos, menu, and many of the reviews do not match my experience of this restaurant. I will never go back, but, if you are looking for such authentidc Tuscan favorites as a breaded tenderloin and french fries, a big juicy burger, a limp, soggy calzone, or pasta from a box smothered in pesto from a jar, then this is definitely the place for you.
After placing our order, we were served sliced Italian bread--a day-old baguette that was cut up and served in a brown paper bag. No joke. A brown paper bag.
My son ordered a calzone that was soggy, chewy, flavorless and was clearly microwaved.
I ordered the Milanese Pork with potatoes and received a deep-fried tenderloin and fresh-from-the -freezer french fries. The plate was dressed up with a drizzle of barbecue sauce around the edge, and our waitress also provided me with packets of ketchup and mayo for my "Milanese" potatoes. For a minute, I thought I was at a souther Indiana Shoney's Big Boy.
My wife's dish looked the most authentic. While her penne was deftly prepared per the instructions on the box, the choice of jarred pesto fell a little on the salty side. We have done this one better ourselves, at home.
The service was, I admit, friendly and prompt, but I should have known something was up when she said they were open for dinner anytime. (A good local place will tell you to come back when they open for dinner.) Most places don't start serving dinner until 7PM.
Take my advice. If you're in Florence and the waiter hands you a menu in English--LEAVE! Immediately! You will be wasting your money on a meal that a true Florentine would hesitate to feed to her dog. I have had more authentic Italian food at the Olive Garden. Actually, I've had more authentic Italian food at Denny's.
