My daughter and I, who are frequent travellers to Europe, and very particular in our hotel requirements, searched for the perfect location as our home base in Puglia. We are so happy in our choice of I Tre Bacili Dimora Salentina, in Spongano. ||It is a peaceful, private, and secure oasis in a charming southern Puglia village. The owner and designer went to great length in every detail of the small hotel. The room we stayed in, the Presidente, was very very spacious by European (and American) standards. The mattress was very comfortable, excellent quality linens like in a Four Seasons Hotel, sophisticated decor and accent pieces and lighting from Milan. The one negative in the room was the air conditioning system. It was too "high tech" for me to figure out. It would be helpful to leave a little directional manual how to operate it in the room.||The outdoor area our room faced onto was a charming garden which was professionally arranged by a landscape expert. It was beautiful. We ate breakfast outside looking out onto it. Did I mention this breakfast area backed up to the back wall of an ancient village church. So charming!||The pool area was equally well thought out in it's design, sense of privacy, and charm. The landscaping was just exquisite. My daughter and I sat out at the pool for rest and relaxation. One thing maybe the hotel needs to look into is a smell at one end of the pool. I don't know what it is. Otherwise, it was an ideal space to unwind and read a book after a busy day touring Puglia.||If this doesn't make you want to come and stay at I Tre Bacili Dimora Salentina, let me tell you the BEST part! The hospitality of the staff and breakfast was amazing. Maria is a prize employee and treated us like two princesses. She runs the Dimora as if she owns it with attention to detail and generosity. We came in late the first day on a rainy evening and she found some aperitifs for us. She was happy to arrange dinner reservations, reservations at a spa for us.....no end to her willingness to help us. Maria greated us each day with an enormous "good morning" and breakfast offerings. They offer a full English Breakfast if you would like.....which was made from delicious fresh ingredients and prepared on the spot. If you prefer an American breakfast, they offer that as well with fresh capuccino, fresh squeezed orange juice, yogurt, fresh fruit salad, and a large assortment of freshly baked Puglian specialties. Maria bakes each morning and she is an expert baker! All pastries were mouth-watering. In fact, Maria was kind enough to send me her recipe for Puglian Pasticiotto which she made a few times with different filllings, over our 5 day stay. There was no end to Maria’s baking talent!|Also to note the woman who cleaned our room was lovely and did a wonderful, thorough job cleaning our room and the entire facility. Sabrina, Stefania, and Damiana were all so kind and helpful. I would definitely stay at I Tre Bacili again while in Puglia. Also, street parking is not a problem, or the hotel as their own private parking lot. My daughter and I loved it at I Tre Bacili and can’t wait to go back!!!
