Ways to Get Outside at Iberostar Hotels, Dominican Republic - AFAR

"A five-star beachfront resort on Bávaro Beach with calm turquoise waters and miles of white sand, ideal for parasailing, sailing, windsurfing, or simply walking the shore. Guests can earn dive certification through a local dive operator, receive one free hour of non-motorized water sports daily, and families can enroll children in an environmental-focused activity program that blends entertainment with conservation lessons. The property is also connected to a nearby coral research and nursery facility where visitors can learn about reef resilience and restoration." - AFAR

How Hotel Brand Iberostar is Helping to Protect the Ocean - AFAR

"Home to an on-site Coral Lab that advances reef conservation by identifying the least-vulnerable coral species, cultivating coral nurseries, and restoring reefs in high-risk areas across nearby destinations such as the Dominican Republic and Mexico. The lab’s work is part of a larger coastal-health effort that includes establishing additional nursery sites (one in Jamaica is expected to hold roughly 10,000 elkhorn coral fragments) to protect biodiversity, reinforce shorelines, and increase reef resilience against climate impacts and disease." - AFAR

I loved this resort!! We enjoyed our 7 day stay. It has amazing, friendly staff all around, great food and awesome entertainment! There were a variety of activities to join during the day and the pools are awesome, with a swim-up bar to cool down thise especially hot days!

Traveled in August with eight people; three adult couples and two babies. Overall excellent all inclusive resort! PROS: +food. Buffet was great and clean. So many options. Most of the staff doesn’t speak fluent English so basic Spanish is helpful. Restaurant options are excellent too, but we could only get 1 reservation since it was all booked by the time we checked in. +the app. this was literally the only way I could have my questions answered correctly and staff follow through with my requests. (Perhaps there’s an auto translate that makes it more clear?) This feature alone saved the resort from dropping an entire star. A person named Caroline was often on the other end helping me. She deserves a raise! You can use it to request items to your room, talk to costumer relations, make reservations, etc. it was a life saver. +location/grounds. Excellent and beautifully maintained. This was perfect for our big group with kids! The splash park, the pools, the beach - excellent for families with babies. Lots of other children around… so might not be the most romantic for solo couples or friend groups. +price. What you get for this price is amazing. CONS: -service. If you require anything extra from the hotel, or run into any problems, be prepared to be left frustrated. (Ex: we asked 4 times for a second crib for the second baby and never got it. Ex: We tried to move our transfer time, and told no. Ex: we were assigned rooms different from the ones we reserved and took an entire day/night to correct it. (Also we were told we would get some “amenities” for the trouble, but nothing). This seemed pretty typical. Again though, this was only when we needed something extra. We would consider recommending this resort to other family travelers for the beautiful grounds, affordable pricing, and plenty of food/dinner options. But be warned if you are someone who requires extra support (eg: very young children, big group, allergies?), you might want to get your expectations lowered and/or hope you can use the app successfully!

Floor cleaning was great everyday and the minibar always stocked and service was great. Location of the room 1096 and Villa #9 was very close to everything. Great experience overall. Connecting rooms were a great plus and rooms were very spacious. Overall lovely vacation.

It was a great experience for 6 days. Service was excellent, especially Clara, who was doing our room services. Most of them are not speaking English, but they communicate very well. The foods and restaurants are perfect, foods are tasty and changes the menu every day.

This resort was perfect for my dad (69), myself and two kids (4 and 9). We loved that the big main pool was right next to the kid's pirate ship pool. We spent most our time there since the beach to the resort was full of seaweed. We were able to walk along the beach and find a clearer spot to get photos and dip in but it was short lived. The outdoor burger buffet, ice cream parlor and hibachi was our favorite as far as food. The big buffet was beautifully set up but most the food tasted bland. The room was nice, we had a connecting 2 bedroom and slept comfortably, AC worked great. We did find multiple red centipedes, and 1 roach in the bathroom though. Cleaning came daily. The spa was a 10/10 and worth the price. The $400 credit we received through booking with a travel agent is really only coupon like discounts but be sure to take advantage of $25 off every $100 spent at the resort especially if you do the spa. We had no issues getting golf carts to take us around. Our favorite staff member was Altagracia. She made us feel at home, and was so loving with the kids. Bringing $1-$5s came in handy for tipping, the staff so deserves. They work long hours and are always in a great mood looking to serve you.

Nice resort overall. Rooms were nice, spacious, and clean. Buffets were okay, but I am not a huge buffet person. I wish there were lunch options besides buffet style. You may not get a reservation at all the restaurants if you wait until you get there. The hibachi was pretty good and we enjoyed the Greek. The French was okay and easy to get into if you didn't have a reservation and don't want the buffet. Steakhouse was excellent. I would have made a reservation for two dinners there if I had known how delicious it was. Service throughout varied. Some servers were more attentive than others, but overall friendly. Pool is nice, and we didn't have any issues getting chairs. The $25 per day deal to book a cabana is great, but know that the "cabanas" near the pool are not really cabanas, they are more like day beds and only big enough for 2, maybe 3 adults. They are not shaded entirely depending on where the sun is. If you want a true cabana, go with one on the beach. Unfortunately, the cabana didn't have a server which was a bummer. I was there with friends, all in our 20s, and we liked the entertainment. Catered more toward kids early in the night, then more toward adults later in the night. Pool area entertainment was kind of the same everyday. Feel like they should be switching it up more. Overall good resort for the price, especially if you get one of the deals. I prefer a smaller resort, but probably a great resort if you have kids or are traveling with a group of many different ages.

Me and my family had a great time getting to know the Dominican Republic while staying at this great resort. The food and atmosphere were outstanding! There is a great variety of options for restaurants and a 24/7 cafe. Nice tropical landscape and easy access to the beautiful beach. They also helped us book an excursion to a theme park which included all transportation. An overall great experience!

Was very disappointed by the service. Getting towels is a nightmare. And when you are at a beach resort, that can really put a damper on your stay. The first day we got there they would not give us towels in the afternoon because they said it was too late in the day. Our kids were wet from swimming in the ocean and they couldn't get towels to dry themselves. Other days they ran out of clean towels. When they did have towels the line to get them was long. Then our AC was broke and we could not get it fixed. Shower drain was clogged. I don't recommend this resort.
