How Hotel Brand Iberostar is Helping to Protect the Ocean - AFAR

"Home to an on-site Coral Lab that advances reef conservation by identifying the least-vulnerable coral species, cultivating coral nurseries, and restoring reefs in high-risk areas across nearby destinations such as the Dominican Republic and Mexico. The lab’s work is part of a larger coastal-health effort that includes establishing additional nursery sites (one in Jamaica is expected to hold roughly 10,000 elkhorn coral fragments) to protect biodiversity, reinforce shorelines, and increase reef resilience against climate impacts and disease." - AFAR

I just returned and was disappointed with my overall stay. It took forever to get our rooms, when we did, the connecting room was already occupied!! We got a new set of rooms and there was an extra bed in there that we didn’t need and it was in the way. Our adult side of the room smelled like mildew, curtains were dirty, lights were rusty and the plumbing was all messed up. The toilet ended up breaking the second day and the cold water stopped working mid shower, leading to an unexpected HOT shower. I then found bugs in both rooms (giant and small). The beach is best described as dingy....seaweed I understand, but cigarette butts and trash mixed in with seaweed is gross! The ocean floor was dangerous, coral all over…Most of the showers to rinse your feet off didn’t work. Old plates and drink cups littered the pool area. Entertainment was meh. Part of the kids' water park are was broken.|After speaking to the manager, we were upgraded to the Coral level where things were a million times better, but once again the toilet broke and had to be fixed. We also had to wait all day for this new room. I spoke to the manager around 10:30 and the room was ready at 5:00. I saw maintenance quite a few times around the property, wondering how many others were having plumbing issues. We also requested towels and flip flops three times before receiving them and when we did, some towels had yellow stains. We were promised two massages when we checked in at Coral. We scheduled and showed up for them and were turned away. We were not able to get them because it was two free hydrotherapy sessions not massages, which was miscommunicated. This was our last full day and we had been looking forward to it since the upgrade. The staff at the spa had no sympathy and sent us away.|The positives are that we were upgraded when our issues were shared with the manager, the food was delicious everywhere, especially the hibachi, drinks were good, the coffee shop was cute, and the staff were generally kind. However I would NOT return here, unless it was the coral level, but even then I just don’t know. I know some places have a bad day here or there, but this did not meet my travel standards. The difference between Coral and Selection Suites was HUGE. If I had been offered an upgrade initially I probably would have taken it as I have at other resorts in the past. The beach was smaller, but cleaner and safer without coral littering the sea floor. The pools were cleaner and quieter too, which our children really appreciated.||I would NOT send anyone to Selection. My husband called the corporate office because we were so in shock with all the plumbing issues. Both of my children are currently sick, could be a mix of things, but I know the overwhelming mildew for two nights didn't help. We spent way too much of our vacation fixing problems and moving rooms, instead of enjoying the island.

Beautifully maintained villas amid a manicured garden. Super friendly staff who go the extra mile to make you feel welcome, comfortable and safe. Food was decent and the resort wasn't very crowded at the end of October. Loved the golf carts to go around the property. Scuba Diving was an extra treat I gave myself. Would definitely do it again. Amazing well knowledgeable staff from all around the world!!

Amazing service all around! This place is absolutely stunning. My husband, Sergio, and I were super lucky to be gifted our honeymoon here, and from the very start, we were treated so well.||The staff don’t just give great customer service — they really go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and cared for, almost like friends. As someone who works in management, I was honestly taking mental notes to bring back home!||I had a small emergency during our stay, and our Ambassador, Manny, was right there to help. He’s truly exceptional at what he does and genuinely cares about guests.||I also want to give a big shoutout to Clara, Noel, Lizbeth, Juan, Angel, Yicaira, and Felicia — you all made our stay unforgettable!||My husband and I are already planning to come back next year. Thank you for everything! ❤️

The best part of this resort is the beach, fantastic sand that seemed cool on my feet despite the hot weather. We got lucky with clean sand and no sargassum weeds. The water by the resort was very clean. The food at the buffet is great if you get there when it opens, once it gets busy it's a bit too crowded. The a la carte restaurants were mostly a waste of time here, the steakhouse was closed, the Asian cuisine was fried rice with a performance (good service), the Italian restaurant had abysmal service, couldn't get a drink refill and ended up serving myself. The kids star camp was lovely and I wish we used it more than we did, the staff there were plentiful and abundantly friendly. Our room had a functional layout that felt roomy. However we were ridiculously far from all the amenities and I really got my steps in this week. While I do appreciate the exercise, it was very awkward when you forget something back in the room. The room was continually infested with millipedes. I flushed perhaps 30 to 40 of them down the toilet. Also encountered some cockroach and a fair number of mosquitoes in the room. This is likely due to the poor seals around the doors, you can see sunlight pouring through the crack all around the doors. That being said, the cleaning staff were fantastic and very helpful. The entertainment was good, on par with what I expected. A good mix of kid friendly stuff and the crowd interaction. Overall I felt that the staff really want you to have a good time and I felt there was effort on their part to ensure you have an enjoyable stay.

Actual 5 stars. We did the coral level and Will definitely return again Booked for 4 nights. Food and services are excellent. They got a 6.4 feet deep pool which is amazing. Their Starcafe has really good caramel frappe Their drinks ARE NOT watered down and pop comes in glass bottles which are absolutely delicious (I think this is for coral level) Greek restaurant has the best chicken and beef souvlaki ever.

Went from Oct 17-24. The resort is beautiful the food is good and the hospitality was excellent. Altagracia took very good care of us. We were with a couple that required a wheelchair and when she saw us coming she would take over and wheel him in to the restaurants or buffets. The shows every night were top rated. All workers were highly talented and it showed in their performances. Would highly recommend. The beach was beautiful and well taken care of. The bubble party in the pool was a blast. Iberostar resorts are top notch.

We have just come back from a week at the Iberostar Selection Suites, we had read some of the recent reviews and it's safe to say we had set our expectations accordingly. ||We arrived at around 5pm, so the reception was quite quiet, but we were checked in with no hassles, and had it not been for us asking questions, it would have been very quick. The hotel grounds are up there with the nicest we have experienced, the rooms are all part of small two story buildings, with 4 rooms each, their lack of height makes them less imposing than some of the bigger resorts, and gives the sense of being far more open, than even the neighbouring resorts. The room itself was spacious and clean with everything we needed, although the air conditioning unit was quite loud, so if you are a light sleeper that may be an issue.||The sunbeds around the pools began to fill up around 9, so if you want a prime spot, be prepared to be up early, there were plenty of beds around, so there was always a spot to lie in though, there is one main pool split into two, with activities on one side and a swim up bar on the other side, there is a pool with some small slides for younger children, and tucked away around the back is a quiet pool. ||The beach is amazing, when the sea allows it to be!! It really was pot luck, some days we could get up early and go for a long walk in either direction, others the waves and water were coming in as far as the Iberostar sign on the beach. The water was cloudy most of the time, but it was only sand washing up from the sea floor, so there was not much to see. Members of our party have been to other resorts along this stretch of beach, and the sea has never been this cloudy, but it was the same all the way along, the seaweed issues has been bad this year as well, however there was little evidence of this each morning, as the staff were up cleaning it away very early.||Food and drink at the resort was very good overall, a couple of the restaurants were shut, so we made a reservation at the sister hotel and ate there one evening, we were able to use all of the facilities at the neighbouring Iberostar Waves complex, so there was plenty to choose from. The buffet had a good selection, and had theme nights, however we only ate at the buffet once, preferring the a la carte options.||Service at the hotel was good, the staff were friendly and welcoming, there were some minor miscommunications, but nothing that caused any problems. We were asked by multiple concierges to attend a 'free breakfast at the Coral level' and receive a free spa treatment, but each time we were firm that we were not interested, we know they get a commission based on attendees, and we understand why they do it, but we stood firm with our refusals, so they were not pushy.||Our group really enjoyed our stay at the Iberostar, and we did not experience any of the problems that were reported in some of the more recent reviews, if you want somewhere to relax with friends, family or just as a couple, we would recommend it

We had a wonderful time at the Iberostar resort in Punta Cana. It is a truly beautiful resort, featuring lush vegetation, a variety of beautiful tropical birds and flowers, a gorgeous beach, and excellent food, drinks, and entertainment. Our room was spacious and clean. I would like to mention our favorite server at the Los Haitises restaurant: Adelise. She always made sure we felt welcome and provided outstanding service. Overall, it was a great experience. Highly recommended for a relaxing and fun vacation!
