We needed a place to sleep that was inexpensive, clean, and safe. This place was exactly that. Everything in the surrounding area is expensive, so we picked this place primarily based on price. Don't get me wrong, this place is very expensive for what it is, but given the cost of the area, it's competitive. The room was very small and the shower even smaller, but we just needed a bed for the night and it was perfectly fine. It was easy to walk here from the train station with suitcases in tow. The person at reception also recommended a place for dinner that we really liked.

I was not expecting the room to be this small. This was for 2 people and we had no where to put our luggage and we were walking on top of it all week. It was unusually hot the week we stayed and the AC did not provide a cool place to be sleeping. The location was good for proximity for me because my friend lived in walking distance. The other good convenience was the gas station being open 24 hours to buy quality food and drinks. The hotel cleaned our trash and restocked our towels and toilet paper daily which was needed and nice. Our room was not clean when we arrived. The beds had dirt and hair all over it and there was hair all over the room.

I accidentally booked the wrong dates, but the kind receptionist helped rearrange things, which I appreciated. However, I was surprised to find that parking was charged separately. The room itself felt quite prison-like, with no view at all. Overall, we managed, but it left us with a rather tough impression of Switzerland...

Room is small but well organized. Only thing I dreaded was that the corridors and common areas smelled of old cigarette smoke. Hard smell to eliminate, I know. But still bothersome.

I booked this hotel in order to be near the Winterthur station and a conference venue (the ZHAW). In that respect it was fine -- only a 10-15 minute walk or 5-minute bus ride. It was also quiet, which was a nice surprise. I wasn't specifically looking for a cheap hotel, and this wasn't particularly cheap -- I paid chf 129/1 night including breakfast. However, the mattress was so bad that I barely slept. I imagine it was like sleeping on a horse hair mattress from the old days! Also, the window was unopenable and the "climate control" was absolutely ineffective. Don't book here on a hot day as I'm sure it will be absolutely stifling! Another detail I didn't notice when I booked is that there is no hair dryer in the room. You have to pay chf 20 as a deposit at reception. One more thing -- I'm not really picky about shampoo, but I suggest bringing your own, as the one here made my hair feel very dry afterwards. There was no conditioner, either, so bring your own if you have long hair. The breakfast was ok -- I think it was an extra chf 10 (or maybe chf 20?). It included scrambled eggs, vienna sausages, yogurt, croissants, bread, cereal, juice (not very good) and coffee/tea.

Clean and reasonable price, but a bit far from the train station. If you have large luggage you need to walk a long way to to hotel. Over all the hotel feel free and safe. The bed and toilet is clean no smell.

Yelp
For the price you pay its pretty good. It's clean and simple. We got a room that fits 3 and the bunk is on top of full size bed. The bathroom door doesn't have a lock just a simple door, like a closet door (so if u bunking with others that ur not to close too they can hear ur business in there, lol.) It's cheaper than a lot of the other hotels near by. MCDonald is literally the next parking over so u can walk to that. Free WIFI!!!!! And good signal too! That was a major plus!!!! Would stay again here if we in the area.

Yelp
Efficient clean rooms in a good location near shops and restaurants. It is one of the less expensive hotels I could find online, because after all, this is Switzerland. There's a nice lobby with a bar that runs 24/7 which has comfy chairs and free wifi to enjoy along with a glass of wine or mug of beer plus a snack, free peanuts even. We found better food options down the street with better prices however. The room has a small tv, and a good sized shower. The location is very quiet. I would stay here again. McDonalds is across the parking lot so skip the breakfast's additional charge.

Yelp
I am an American and my Swiss husband and I have recently moved to Switzerland to make our home here. We picked the IBIS Budget Hotel because my husband had stayed there overnight once some years ago and we thought we would only stay a few nights until we found an apartment. We also thought we had researched all the current buzz about the area of Winterthur but sadly, we lacked one important piece of information: there is not one available apartment in the entire area and people are lining up in droves to rent even marginal ones. So our stay at the IBIS turned into one lasting almost 7 weeks! I have to say the we both have stayed in swank hotels in America and in Europe over the years and had something to base this review upon. That said, this little place stacked up to all of them is so many ways. Don't get me wrong, The rooms are tiny with a double bed and a "berth" bed over the top of it which is perfect for a child, or if three kids want to stay in one room or for our purposes- it was a good place to put our enormous luggage. But the major praise I have to give is that the room and the hotel were fastidiously clean, with everything one would need for basic comfort and with a staff as good in service and attitude as any 5 star venue. Everyone there bent over backward to make our time there comfortable and believe me, after 7 weeks, we were not exactly "low" maintenance people. If you are visiting Winterthur for one of the many festivals or events the city offers or have young people going there or just stopping for one night's rest before going on to another destination, I urge to make the IBIS Budget Hotel your choice. Why not save the money you would spend on a fancy hotel room you will never be in and spend it on something more fun...like chocolate.
