Ibis Central Sheung Wan is a good hotel for the price. It's very much a 'what you see is what you get' kind of place.
The decor is simple but clean. Check-in was located on the 5th floor, but was fast and from there we took the elevator to our floor. Not wanting to spend too much on our little weekend getaway, we opted for the city view, which, due to Hong Kong's many skyscrapers wasn't much of a view, unfortunately. But then again, I reminded myself that we get what we pay for. They give you the option of either a smokers or a non smoking room and you can choose either double or twin beds. Extra beds cost more. Overall a good hotel for families too.
The room itself is very basic. Double bed and tv, a small desk by the window and a bathroom with shampoo/bodywash combo locked to the wall. For some reason only one toothbrush and one pair of slippers was supplied, but we called reception and they quickly gave us one more set plus a comb. I am quite positive they would've provided other amenities too when asked.
Breakfast is 138 per person(!!!), but for the people who, like me, just need a coffee and maybe a croissant, you can get this for around 50-60 HKD at the downstairs Starbucks. There's also plenty of local food places around the corner. One morning we ate at a local place and managed to order a morning set of beef noodles, egg and sausage with traditional HK style coffee for 27 HKD. So yeah, no need to ball out on Ibis breakfast buffet.
The elevators in the building are a bit of a hassle. There are 5 or 6 elevators, but only three of them go all the way to the ground floor. The rest only to reception on the 5th floor. Some mornings we were standing in a crowded elevator where everyone had to get out on 5th to wait for an elevator for ground floor. Maybe it's security reasons, but it creates a lot of confusion, clutter in the reception area and general annoyance.
Overall I am a happy customer though. We booked through a booking site and got a package deal of return flight from Beijing to HK and three nights at Ibis for 5200 RMB (roughly 6500 HKD). The staff members helped us store our luggage on the last day and are in general very helpful. All in all would come back.
