The 5 Best Hotels in Medellín (Updated 2025)

"This three-star hotel in the artsy Ciudad del Río neighborhood is bright and airy and sits right around the corner from the Medellín Modern Art Museum and less than a block from Mercado del Río, the city’s biggest food market. I appreciated the breakfast buffet full of fresh local fruit and baked goods and the relaxed 12pm checkout. The rooms are a bit sparse but include the usual mid-level perks—a desk, flatscreen TV, and a wardrobe with a safe—and the bathrooms are decently sized with a large sink counter and complimentary toiletries. It’s a pleasant, no-frills choice if you want to stay in an interesting area without fuss." - Matthew Kepnes

You might think this is a standard Ibis, fact is, it goes beyond. Rooms are on the small side, clean and functional. Shower is fair and hot when needed. Service is great, all staff is courteous and I felt the very attentive. Breakfast was a surprise, going beyond continental to offer omelets, paisa breakfast, and the great Colombian fruit assortment. Try arepas and calentao. Location is great, just across Medellin's museum of modern art. Several restaurants around, and fairly close to great nightlife and shopping areas. I'll be back for sure.

I had stay at ibis before and they had great everyday amenities but now they do not. Twin beds are smaller like for kids. No flat sheet the comforter is super tiny. No blankets and overall the service was not so great. They kept asking me for my documents because they did not scan correctly. Plus they were passive aggressive.

Years ago this place was great. Now they are refusing for me to check out early because the twin beds are super small. Before they double had full size beds. Last night we almost fell out of the bed and now they are refusing giving us the money back for 2 unused nights because we need bigger beds. Also there is no flat sheets, no blanket and no hand towel to even dry your hands. We had this place in a way better perspective but they have lower the amenities and also the beds are like for kids super uncomfortable. I feel like they are keeping us hostage here in a place where we do not want to be.

The bathroom was a disaster, the water would not go down in the toilet. You could hear people from the other rooms, the TV was not a smart, the room was too small, the closet was super uncomfortable to hang clothes. Very poor service, the front desk was nice but I would not stay at this hotel again, plus the men's room in the cafeteria was not working so we had to share with women and that is uncomfortable for them.

Helpful front desk team fluent in English. Rooms are small and basic with excellent shower and cleanliness. Some ongoing hotel renovations to the lobby. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet and the convenient location.

Clean and comfortable basic accommodations. Small but adequate room. No refrigerator, microwave oven, or coffee machine; these would enhance its appeal.

I really enjoyed my stay. I asked for a quiet room which I was provided. The room and hotel are very clean. A few suggestions. Please install water filters for drinking water on every floor. I find that the lights being installed in hotels are much too bright. I'm a designer and in our design concept we always create calm spaces by considering light. The super bright white light that is in the lobby (a type of hanging wrapped cord) would be much more soothing and welcoming in a warm golden light. Also the lights in the room are much too bright. I never turned on the overhead bathroom light because it was like a surgical room, also the lights on either side of the mirror were too bright so I barely turned them on unless I needed to. The other option would be to have a switch that allows you to choose the colour temperature of the light as some lights that are sold give you this option. Meaning that people who prefer bright white light could choose that and those that prefer soft golden light could adjust the switch to choose that option. I found the music in the lobby too loud. It's nice to have quiet at night when you are arriving to the hotel after a long flight and are exhausted or going down to get filtered water. I'm not sure why everywhere in the world people feel you have to have music and also loud music. The cleaning lady was spraying a perfumed chemical spray onto the carpet in the hallways. This smell seeped into my room. Many people have bad allergies (including me) to chemical fragrances. Please consider switching the scent to an all natural mint or other gentle essential oil. For those who are sensitive to light, sound and smells, it's nice to consider a more calming and natural design concept (golden lights that are not harsh on the eyes, smells that are organic, quiet music and periods of no music to eliminate constant stimulation). Overall, the service was very good, it was a reasonable price and I did enjoy my stay. I do recommend. Thanks Ibis!
