Tall Trees Ainslie Motel

All in all, I had a good time during my stay at the Tall Trees Ainslie Motel. + The service was excellent and staff very friendly. Also, I found the room, incl. balcony, to be very spacious. - Although I thought the room was cleaned, I wouldn‘t necessarily say it felt necessarily sterile. The furniture is not the most modern, but definitely not a problem for me.

It’s a decent location, with shaded parking under trees. However, the particular room I stayed in wasn’t very nice. I’m not normally very fussy but this room was not clean. The carpets were stained, the shower also not clean with no hot water. The drain in the bathroom had a resident spider (shows how often it’s mopped). And the tv must’ve been as old as me. Could barely see it as the screen was faint and most of the image was out of frame. This hotel would be okay for a quick night if you needed too. However, I wouldn’t stay here any longer than a night. Especially without hot water from the shower. Quite disappointed.

WARNING DO NOT STAY HERE ||We booked Tall Trees Ainslie in Canberra in June for our relaxing getaway. We organised a balcony room with a couch and queen bed. We confirmed arrival confirmation prior to leaving Victoria and again on the day We arrived and parked at the entrance along with about 100 school girls aged abour 11 years who arrived on a bus. We went into reception to be greeted by the receptionist who advised us that we were eligible for an upgrade. Thanking her we waited for the key. During the wait we were informed not to leave anything in the car overnight as there had been issues in the past. During our wait the school children were now running up and down the hall way banging doors and screaming. Heading to the room which was now down the back. Our so called upgrade was a smelly tiny room with a door to the bathroom and nothing else. We immediately went back to reception asking what happened to the balcony room we booked months ago. I explained to her that I was recovering from beast cancer and needed a room with an opening and fresh air. While we were there another person also complained he had been given a tiny room and that he too had booked a balcony room The receptionist admitted that they had doubled booked with the school children who were now running wild. We both explained that we had booked months earlier but she was insisting we were happy with our upgrade. We explained we were only happy until we saw the room which they had charged more money than our agreement. She then started yelling at me and I advised her I will be videoing her I didn't appreciate her yelling at me. She then left us all standing in the reception with what was obvious hotel workers who stood staring at us until she returned about 15 minutes later. In that time an elderly lady had arrived all flustered and very tired from her long bus trip. We allowed her to go before us noting that when she asked the receptionist about where she could eat she was told to go look it up on the internet. By now everyone was frustrated the school kids were still banging doors and running around despite the two teachers telling them to behave. I asked for the money to be put back on my card we would go elsewhere. Again she disappeared only to inform me that her manager would ring me. Twenty minutes later I hadn't received a call she had given him the wrong number so eventually he rang offering me a full refund. I have not received it Seven days later posting this he is ignoring my calls and I have taken it up with booking.com. He assured me that he would refund me within 48 hours but he is totally ignoring my communication. Day 1 he said he was sick and didn't go into the office I strongly suggest you DO NOT stay here it's grotty, the car park is unsafe with signs warning people about theft. The fact that we were not given any respect is enough to say the hotel is unsavory. As we drove off to a cleaner and better hotel the school kids were still yelling and running around.

Great location in Ainslie, close to the city with easy parking. Rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable. We were upgraded to an executive room, but it didn’t come with microwave or plates. We extended for another night and moved to regular room since it was already booked. The regular rooms had microwave and plates. Overall, a very pleasant stay.

I often find hotel reviews more negative I guess because if you are dissatisfied you're more likely to complain and do a review whereas if satisfied you're less likely to bother to do a review. However I review regardless and I have to say I found Tall Trees fine. While not a luxury hotel the room was clean, spacious, quiet with comfortable bed and well priced. I was also upgraded to a balcony room. Only slight negative was that the tiles in bathroom were a bit daggy having been painted rather than replaced some years ago and paint was peeling in places. But I think the place is gradually being renovated.

Have stayed at this hotel 20+ times when it was run by previous management and I don’t think I’ll be coming back after what I’ve experienced tonight. The 1st room I was given, I stayed in until 4am until I couldn’t handle it anymore and asked for a room change. I couldn’t sleep as I had tiny bugs crawling all over me and the bed, then a huge roach began flying around the room so I ran to my car. Unfortunately staff had to be woken up, I was given a new room. As soon as I entered the new room I notice about 20 of the same small bugs crawling all over the pillows and bed sheets, I move the pillow and find a roach laying underneath.. I called reception again and was met with a horrible attitude. She came to the room acting as though she couldn’t see the bugs all over the bed?! I show her the videos I took on my phone as it’s zoomed in and she rolls her eyes and said “we get bugs here because of the lights”. I’m sorry but that’s not an excuse, it’s a health hazard and that shouldn’t be the standard you expect paying guests to tolerate. My skin has been itching non stop. Reception wanted to offer me a 3rd room but I decided it’s best to leave. There seems to be an infestation of bugs and roaches as the 2 rooms I was given were at opposite ends of the motel. I assume every room would be crawling with bugs. It’s now 6am and I have to drive 5 hours to my next destination running on no sleep and itchy skin. Not once did reception apologise. I was made to feel like a burden for addressing a real health hazard. This used to be my favourite accomodation when visiting Canberra, it seems the new management don’t care to keep it to the standards it once was. Such a shame. I had a pricey upcoming stay over the Summernats period in January that I’ve chosen to now cancel. I’d also recommend the owner to speak to the foreign man and women who were working reception after hours. If they treat all guests the way they treated me, I imagine I won’t be the only one not wanting to come back here.

We stayed here for 1 night as we were here for a cricket game at Manuka oval. We had made a booking for the Large Family Room - which included a queen bed, bunk beds and also 1 single bed. We were going to be late to check-in and so called their reception to get some after hours check-in information. The staff were extremely helpful and provided us with a code to the lock-box which was easy enough to access. The room although spacious, was quite dated and the carpets and general upkeep although clean, looked tired. Could do with an uplift. Everything worked (hot / cold water) toilets etc. and the room had tea / coffee and a mini bar fridge. There is plenty of parking available and we didn't find it unsafe etc. either. All in all, the accommodation suited our needs and our purpose.

Checked in with my family and was given a pamphlet for breakfast. When I asked about it later they told me they weren’t actually offering it. After we settled in I went to take a shower and the water was freezing cold even after running for 10 minutes. When I informed the staff, they said that’s just how the water is and couldn’t do anything about it. The best they could do was move me to the room next door, which they admitted would likely have the same problem. The staff did not seem concerned at all, there was no offer of compensation or any sign that they intended to fix the problem. This is one place to avoid.
