Nitro ice cream! Also in the winter the hot chocolate is decadent but amazing.

This place is so amazing. I have never had Nitro ice cream before. So this was a new experience for me, and it is located in this quaint neighborhood, where there is very little street traffic. As far as cars are concerned, but there are people out walking their dog with their families. So it is definitely a family oriented area. The staff there were amazing in offering up menu ideas. I chose to get the okay fine which had rumchata with fruit loops, and that was absolutely amazing. You could hardly taste the alcohol, but it was very satisfying and refreshing. We also got the strawberry cheesecake and that was made perfectly with fresh strawberries and everything and it tasted just like strawberry cheesecake. Definitely a must try, and when I am back in town again, this is a place I will visit again.

Google
First time having Nitro Ice Cream and it didn't disappoint. I had the chocolate, it was creamy, delicious, and just the right temperature for enjoying ice cream. My date had a boozy nitro ice cream, the Benjamin, with Dickel whiskey topped with candied pecans. The ambience is sweet and charming with a true neighborhood corner store feel with the shop in Historic Shaw.

Came in yesterday evening and was excited to enjoy one of my favorite flavors that I always order. Unfortunately, I was not impressed with how it was made. I am not sure if the person who made it was new or needs to improve their customer service skills.

Google
Super impressed with the Dark+Fancy Rum and Ginger beer nitro ice cream. The sump coffee was also great. I understand that the brand colours are black, pink and blue. But writing the menu and description with pink and blue on a black board in a small font was too agonising to read and decide what to get. The specials were written with white glass markers on a clear counter - why? We want to read them!!!! The lines will flow much quicker if people can read the menu board clearly. The Google menu doesn't have the description - just the quirky names of the flavours. I would definitely return for the ice cream and I hope they will make the menu more legible. White board with black, blue and magenta-pink markers and a large font?

The last time I was here probably 8-9 years ago. Perhaps, I forgot about this place since it’s kinda out of my way. We stopped by for some sweet treat Friday when we were in the area. I still think it’s pretty cool to see they are making icecream in front of you using liquid nitrogen. I was also surprised that they had a very good Non Dairy menu. I was so tempting to get the boozy nitro ice cream but then I decided to save it for another day. I ended up getting German chocolate (non dairy) and Salted Dulce de leche. I liked the Salted Dulce de leche more, it was very creamy and tasted delicious but at the same time kinda sweet for my liking. I want to try their soy vanilla next time - it sounds interesting. Service was friendly and fast.

Google
Amazing as always, if you have not tried Nitro Ice Cream yet, drop EVERYTHING and get to Ice's Plain and Fancy. Delicious flavors, the smoothest, creamiest Ice Cream that you will ever have..it's like Butter!!

Google
Absolutely exceptional from beginning to end. Warm greeting is always a great start and they nailed it. The team was just as good as it gets. The time and care with which they dealt with a food allergy was unmatched. Abigail went above and beyond to ensure I had a safe experience, give her a raise. Then of course the product is arguably the best ice cream I've ever eaten. Salted dulce de leche is what I started with but I'll be back soon. Thank you again Ices for a wonderful bowl of ice cream.

Google
Ice cream made to order with liquid nitrogen, the result is creamy and smooth, I was very impressed, it was excellent! I highly recommend this, I think it is superior to the more popular concrete ice creams so prevalent in the area and it is locally owned as well so you get to support local small business owners.

Yelp
I came near opening on a Friday, Christmastime. The store was empty, yet hardly felt that way. The atmosphere inside was warm and cozy -- string lights adorned the windows, peppy Christmas music on the radio. Heart-shaped wire chairs and marble tabletops, just the most picturesque little ice cream shop. I got the S'mores, a holiday special. Not sure how they did it, and I don't know the magic behind nitro ice cream, but it genuinely tasted like it came right off the campfire. I've never had a S'mores-flavored dessert capture that smoky flavor before. I sat by the windows -- Ice's sits at the corner of 39th and Shenandoah, and I got to witness a bit of the Christmas magic happening right outside in the beautiful Shaw neighborhood. I will absolutely be returning again and again!

Yelp
Ices Plain & Fancy... The atmosphere is unique and inviting. The staff provides phenomenal service... friendly, attentive, and eager to make each visit enjoyable. And the ice cream? Simply amazing. Delicious. If you're looking for a spot that combines great vibes, top-notch service, and unforgettable ice cream, Ices Plain & Fancy is where it's at.

Yelp
Amazing nitro ice cream made to order. I had the chocolate peanut butter, which was filled with actual peanut butter. Very rich, flavorful ice cream. Only negative is the "regular" size for $7 was huge, I could only eat half of it. Would be nice if they had a small. But maybe that doesn't make sense since they hand make each order. I would just recommend splitting one if you don't want a huge portion.

Yelp
I have never had Flash-churning Nitro Ice Creams. Watching them create a masterpiece at -321 degrees is not only exciting to watch, but also forms very small ice crystals for a supremely smooth texture that can't be duplicated with traditional slow-churning methods. A silky, dense, decadent treat all from a nitro cloud. Such a cool stop. Did I mention they also have made-to-order Nitro Ice Creams, Boozy Ice Cream Cocktails, Sorbets, Floats, Non-Dairy Options, and more! It's a magical place. Service is fast and very patient while you try to pick a favorite. Founded in 2013 and located just blocks from Tower Grove Park in the historic Shaw Neighborhood of St. Louis. The area is a nice place to sit or walk around while you enjoy your ice cream.

Yelp
Big fan of Ices! The fun blue and pink colors on the building really lend a sense of whimsy to the ambiance. I am based in the Shaw neighborhood so the location is also great...quick walk down the street and delicious ice cream is served! Things to note: it is on the slightly pricey side for ice cream but the serving is a good size, whether you go regular or large. The regular size is plenty (although you will probably wish you had more once you finish it because it is so good!) They make the ice cream on the spot and the process gives it a softer serve texture which I like. It can take a little longer to get too since they make it right then and there so keep that in mind. While I haven't tried it, they also offer boozy ice cream which can be a fun twist for your dessert if that is your thing.

Yelp
Alex, Heather and the grandkids enjoyed "Ice Cream for Breakfast" this morning. Ices delivery of this annual ice cream extravaganza was over the top. I had the French Toast and Alex had the Honey Grahams. Heather enjoyed the Orange Mimosa. The French toast was something to write home about with a piece of crispy on the outside and custard on the inside experience. The ice cream was super delicious. Ices was staffed up for the event and much to my surprise, they handled the line licitly split. The staff was super helpful and nice despite the overwhelming crowd. Love the whimsical ambiance at Ices. Wish you had more coconut milk options for Jeff who doesn't eat dairy or soy.

Yelp
Ices Plain & Fancy in St. Louis is such a cute ice cream haven with a unique twist. The vibrant pink and blue accents create a lively atmosphere. Us foodies took it over. The flash-churned liquid-nitrogen creations are a treat, and the story of Rolling Lawns Farm adds a charming touch to the experience (check out the history). The campfire s'mores, with its smoke show, is a must-try for those in the know . Amazing after brunch idea! Oh and this spot is Pup Cup Approved which Molina & Ruby greatly appreciate!

Yelp
Definitely a hidden stl gem! Lovely ice cream and atmosphere. This is located on the north side of tower grove park and walkable from the park. The summer berry flavor was amazing. Can't wait to try other things here :)
google avatar

Tyler W.

Yelp
Can't beat Ices! Whether it's on a hot summer day or cool evening. Located in the Shaw neighborhood very close to Tower Grove park. I typically get the cookies n cream with a waffle cone but they have many other flavors for you to try. I've heard great things about their cinnamon, and butter pecan! I'm sure all the flavors are delicious though. Be sure to swing by and experience for yourself!
google avatar

Allison P.

Yelp
SO GOOD! The seasonal flavors are always my favorite. All of their "cheesecake" flavors are to die for. Every ice cream is made fresh in front of you, which is such a fun experience. Keep this in mind that it isnt a quick experience like a traditional ice cream shop. On a busy evening, there could be a decent wait. It is so worth it though! Would definitely recommend for a date night or if you want a fun little treat
google avatar

Yelp
I have always loved Ices Plain & Fancy, but haven't been back since eating mostly dairy free, but then I saw that they have dairy free flavors! So I grabbed a friend over the weekend and ventured in. I love that it's a dessert and a show because you can watch them make your ice cream. I got the dairy free german chocolate and it was so rich and creamy and cold and perfect on a warm summer day. I will definitely go back for it again and want to try some other dairy free flavors!

Yelp
Took our niece's here the other day. My first time here as well. What delicious creamy, smooth ice cream. Made with all nature ingredients and liquid nitrogen. You've gotta watch the process at least once. Plenty of places to sit inside and out. Dog friendly. Everyone left very satisfied.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I are from out of town and really wanted ice cream before we went back to our hotel to watch the Super Bowl. We decided to stop by Ices where we were warmly greeted even though were closing in the next 15 minutes. My boyfriend got the cherry cordial and I got the Oreo cheesecake ice cream. Omg! Best ice cream I've ever hadddd!! I'm lactose intolerant and let me tell you it was sooo worth it!! I wanted to go back the next day but they were closed until Wednesday which was when we were leaving. I can't wait to come back to STL just for their ice cream
google avatar

Rob R.

Yelp
Always the creamiest and freshest ice cream you will ever had. Made on site to your order. The staff here is incredible and so nice. Generally be prepared for a line. But it is worth the wait. I really like the mint chip and dulce de Leche.
google avatar

Yelp
A friend and I had a sweet tooth and she brought me here to this place to try out for some ice cream. She didn't tell me about how special the ice cream was here so I was pleasantly surprised! This was the first time I've ever heard of, seen and tried nitro ice cream! What a treat!! They had a standing menu and then had seasonal flavors. I wanted to try all of them, but figured I should try a staple flavor since this was my first time trying this type of ice cream. They have a fairly small shop/indoor area but they have a great outdoor patio area for you to sit and enjoy. This is a such a cool place to bring kids so they can see their ice cream being made! Such a great place on many levels and the ice cream doesn't hurt.
google avatar

Aswathy K.

Yelp
Decided to treat ourselves yesterday to some yummy ice cream from here! My husband got the old fashioned nitro and I got the ancho + lefty. Both are the boozy flavors so only for 21+. They tasted so good and strong! I'd say the boozy ice cream here tastes stronger than the ones at Clementines. It's neat to watch them make the ice cream in front of you too. This place is great for the summer as they also have patio seating outside so we were able to bring our dog. They also have ice cream for dogs that Tito was able to enjoy!
google avatar

Jessica P.

Yelp
What a fun, delicious experience! Great for kids and adults. A little pricey.. but you are paying for show along with the ice cream. It's so cool watching them make your ice cream from scratch right in front of you! Plus it's delicious!
google avatar

Che B.

Yelp
Always a solid choice for a cool treat! The flavors are rich yet not overly complicated. Service is always friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Yelp
Personally, this wasn't my favorite ice cream but I can appreciate why other people rave about it. Making each bowl individually using a mixer and nitro is unique. I ordered the seasonal strawberry in regular size. It came with a good portion size and the ice cream was very smooth and the strawberry tasted fresh. It was most definently tasty and I would have it again but it wouldn't be my first choice of places to go. I would go if it was convenient and I was in the mood for ice cream. It was overpriced in my opinion which isn't unusual with this time. There was no line when I went so it was nice and quick. The inside was clean and the staff was friendly. I went after a walk in tower grove and was great to have something cold and be in the AC.
google avatar

Dzuy T.

Yelp
I've never had nitro ice cream before so this was an amazing first experience! The lady working the register was very knowledgeable and helpful with picking flavors. It's also cool to watch them make the ice cream. Regarding the ice cream, all four flavors were yummy and the texture was really soft and creamy compared to ice cream you would eat out of a tub. Definitely coming back in the future!
google avatar

Tiffany S.

Yelp
I finally got the chance to try this nitro ice cream place and I wasn't disappointed! It is a little expensive, but you can understand for this handcrafted treats why it will be a bit pricey. Definitely not someplace I could afford to visit every week but I am glad I had the opportunity to visit. The staff was very friendly and courteous upon entry, they offered suggestions when asked and my entire experience was very pleasant and positive. I would definitely recommend stopping by ices the next time you are in this neighborhood! I look forward to returning to try some of their alcohol infused ice cream flavors! They had quite a few combinations that all sound very delicious! Since I am from Illinois I didn't want to risk ordering a boozy combo and then have my ice cream melt by the time I got home.
google avatar

Paige S.

Yelp
Delicious! And worth the calories! Prepare to wait for a while if you're going on a Friday or Saturday night. They have booze filled ice cream, ice cream that will remind you of your favorite cereal from your childhood, dairy free, sorbet, and ice cream made with liquid nitro! Whatever you fancy, there's an ice cream for you!
google avatar

Erin R.

Yelp
Prior to trying Ices, my STL ice cream shop favorites had been solidified for years. I never expected to find a shop that competes with my favorite place...until I tried Ices. I ordered the salted dulce de leche flavor, and it was so creamy and the perfect combo of salty and sweet. My bf ordered the cookies and cream, which was also good (but the dulce de leche was the best imo). Ices was very crowded on the Saturday night we went, but we were served quickly and still able to get a seat inside. The shop is tiny and adorable, although the size means seating is a bit limited. There is ample street parking up and down the streets nearby so finding a spot is not difficult. I can't wait to return soon!
google avatar

diana h.

Yelp
This is a cool little shop in Shaw that makes their ice cream with liquid hydrogen. I got the old fashioned in a cone and was surprised by boozey it actually was. Taste was there for sure, but the ice cream didn't maintain consistency well (but then again, we are going through a heat wave and I was outside). The cone could definitely be improved - it was a little too sweet for my taste, and the drip factor was absolutely awful. I couldn't even finish because I was so sticky trying to race the disintegration of the cone. Service was quick, there is limited seating indoors with some outdoors as well, and plenty of street parking.
google avatar

Daniel H.

Yelp
Amazing ice cream! The nitrogen really helps make the ice cream incredibly smooth. Service is quick and there is plenty of spots to eat outside in a clean ambiance. Glad we found this spot, we will be back!
google avatar

Jill K.

Yelp
T'was an evening to remember. I was post- Union Loafers pizza and needed something to pair it with. Ice cream, you say? Why yes, please! Got the cherry cordial with hot fudge- oh yeah, we don't mess around. That decision paid me back in spades. The ice cream was next-level and the experience lovely. Go see these cool-ass people with their neat pulley-system signage and eat their ice cream, whether boozy or not. You won't regret it.
google avatar

Tikku G.

Yelp
The first time I went to this place was in 2015 and I remember them using liquid nitrogen to make the ice cream. The little kid in me (and in 2015 I guess?) was sad to see they no longer use this process. Nevertheless, the ice cream is smooth and creamy. Definitely stop by if you are in the neighborhood!

Anna W.

Yelp
This was some of the best ice cream I've had! They have alcoholic and non-alcoholic flavors that were typical flavors as well as fruity ones. There are also a few seasonal ones. The shop is at a cute corner in a neighborhood and the staff was super friendly. The only downside is that it is pretty pricey. They have a regular size or a large. The range is $7-$11, with the alcoholic being $11. The seasonal ones were $10.25. If you don't mind paying a little more, I recommend it!
google avatar

Tucker B.

Yelp
Located in Shaw Park, Ices is creating delicious ice cream using liquid nitrogen and a variety of gourmet flavor combinations. The menu has traditional flavors like vanilla and chocolate. However, if you feel adventurous there are seasonal recipes that use Girl Scout cookies, seasonal fresh fruit, or other seasonal ingredients. Not to mention there are flavors that have booze in them (21+ of course). The staff is friendly and always have a smile on their face! Ices is a must if you are wanting to have a delicious dessert!

Raleigh C.

Yelp
Since I didn't tip, one of the workers threw the ice cream at me and and it got on my
google avatar

Orlando P.

Yelp
Had to get that strawberry cheesecake when I saw it on for this seasonal special! They couldn't directly out it in a come because it comes as a cup but I asked for one and dipped it all in it! Loved every bit of it!!
google avatar

Eli T.

Yelp
I was told recommended to this place by my air bnb host. So glad I went! It's a fun and cool experience I've never seen before. They make the ice cream right in front of you in mixers adding liquid nitrogen to the regular ice cream ingredients. I got a sezersc which has templeton rye and absinthe. Super strong but delicious at the same time, worth every penny! They offer a large selection of both alcoholic and non alcoholic ice cream options. Even some non dairy for those who are avoiding dairy.
google avatar

Laura H.

Yelp
The campfire smores ice cream is back and its AMAZING! It's a chocolate base ice cream with toasted marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers - TOPPED WITH SMOKE YUM! It's only here for the winter season so don't miss out
google avatar

Candice H.

Yelp
We loved this place! They make the nitro ice cream in front of your eyes with lots of unique blend ins like apple butter and s'more ingredients. Delicious ice cream and a very cool experience!
google avatar

Courtney F.

Yelp
SO I'm not sure how I've lived in St. Louis for years and haven't tried this ice cream. It's so good! It's made just the way you want - with the exact base you want (hello chocolate cookies and cream!), with all the toppings you want. It's sweet, smooth, and creamy, everything you could want in a dessert. We shared a large and it was plenty big enough for the both of us. I LOVED being able to watch them making the ice cream with nitrogen in the front window, it was so cool! Loved the experience, loved the product. Highly recommend.

Yelp
If boys are acting too romance-y And the absence of sweets gets you antsy Then you really must go (Though your tummy will grow) For dessert at Ices Plain & Fancy! This is a super cute place in St Louis where we got deep Frozen ice cream. I went by myself about a year before I took Barbie, and it was my first ever experience of deep freeze ice cream and I really loved it. When I took Barbie here to STL, she really enjoyed it as well. The highlight of her trip to STL, perhaps. I said to her, Arch you glad I brought you here? She didn't laugh. The prices are pretty high especially for St Louis - but it is in a very fancy area and a nice little neighborhood with gorgeous buildings on a really cute street and a lot of clientele is suburban and on the wealthy side, so it's not much of a representative of STL itself, but what can you do. Lines can get long but then so can my oh nevermind. I definitely recommend checking it out when you're in St Louis, but you may have had Deep Freeze ice cream by now - or nitrogen or Sub Zero or whatever different places call it. So it may not be as much of a novelty. But this was the first place I tried it and I think it's super cute and has good products, and better than most deep freeze places, honestly. And my cat had fleas, which I got rid of. Some were fancy fleas that could do weird tricks. Others were basic fleas, so they watched TMZ and Sex & The City. I guess you could say my cat had Lices Plain & Fancy.

Meredith R.

Yelp
THE BEST ICE CREAM! Hands down the best ice cream in STL (and trust me I've tried many of them) if not the best ice cream I've ever had! The liquid nitrogen concept of making the ice cream is so fun, but more importantly it seriously makes the creamiest and best ice cream! My go to is the cookies and cream, it's easily the best cookies and cream I've ever had. My husband's favorite is the seasonal special campfire s'mores, they literally pump smoke into it. But you honestly can't go wrong with any flavor. We love this ice cream so much we even served it at our wedding, which was a big hit!
google avatar

Elishia P.

Yelp
Ices Plain and Fancy is a an ice cream shop located in Shaw neighborhood. I walk past here all the time with my dog and today was too hot to pass it by. They seem to make their ice cream to order with nitro which is cool and they even have a nondairy substitute, booze options, and a pup cup. This was my first time having nitro ice cream and I loved it! The butter pecan, because I have an old soul, was so fricking good and they topped jt with candy pecans. I will definitely return. Happy Findings!
google avatar

Warren W.

Yelp
Ices is a nitrogen ice cream making operation. Your order is prepared in front of you while you wait. It's quite surprising that ice cream can be made so quickly but liquid nitrogen is very cold stuff. The restaurant has both ice cream and ice cream flavored with alcoholic beverages available. The product is very good but pricey. The dreamsicle, for example, is made with orange zest to give a very good orange flavor. Inside seating is limited so be prepared to consume your treat outdoors. The people working here are fine. They make sure they get your order correct and deliver it fairly quickly. I'm not sure this business makes sense here in St Louis. I will know after this coming winter has passed.
google avatar

Angela S.

Yelp
I didn't know Nitro ice cream was a thing until we tried Ices Plain and Fancy. Oh my goodness it was incredible! I ordered the Salted Dulce de leche and I would order that again and again and again. Staff was friendly, inside was clean. It was the perfect sweet treat for a hot summer day!
google avatar

Hermann's H.

Yelp
We live in the neighborhood and come here often it's great except they have cans of soda on display and won't sell any. Why have soda in plain sight but won't sell it. Ridiculous and a bit rude.
google avatar

Casey M.

Yelp
Cool spot. I've never had ice cream like this before, so it was a real treat to watch them make it. I got the peanut butter chocolate ice cream, which usually comes with a chocolate ice cream base, but they let me get it with a vanilla base instead. The ice cream was good, although a little pricey, and had chocolate chunks and peanuts in it. I couldn't really tell the difference between ice cream made like this and others, but hey, good ice cream is good ice cream.
google avatar

Ian _.

Yelp
Great ice cream! Staff is super helpful and your order comes out relatively fast. Also it's cool the way they make it because it's a unique way. I highly recommend!
google avatar

Moses F.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite ice cream places in St. Louis. The service and quality of the ice cream are always excellent. Tonight I had the best sundae ever, prepared by a young man named Lane Horne. Somebody should give him a raise immediately, because of the exceptional work he does.
google avatar

Alana Z.

Yelp
Stopped in here because my buddy is convinced this is the best ice cream in St. Louis. I have to say I don't agree but Ice's does make a quality dessert! There was a line out the door when we arrived around 9pm on a Saturday night. It moved relatively quickly though I wasn't in a rush to get anywhere. I love the concept that each serving is made for you. I love the kitschyness of the nitrogen made ice cream and how you can watch as kitchen aid mixers spin and flame torches fire left and right. I don't love that you don't get to try any flavors before you consume a large quantity of caloric goodness. I ended up with the mint chip on a waffle cone. You just can't go wrong with mint and chocolate chips. The flavor was really good, I loved the creamyness and texture of the ice cream. I did noticed that it melted really fast. Almost as fast as frozen custard! Overall a great quality ice cream! I can't say I loved the waffle cone. I have had fresher, crispier, and more fragrant cones in my life. Overall I would definitely recommend trying out this place! The ice cream is delicious and you will be entertained while it's being made!

Yelp
Delicious ice cream that include a lot of fun flavors. I want to give the staff a special shout out for our last visit. My son is neurodivergent and loves chocolate ice cream. Their version comes with chocolate sprinkles mixed in, unbeknownst to me. He really struggles with textures so he wouldn't eat it. They kindly remade it at no charge after I rather awkwardly asked. A+

Andrew B.

Yelp
This place is a hidden St. Louis gem! Grown ups can enjoy boozy ice cream treats! My all time favorite is the Dark and Fancy. Kids will love this place as it is the Benihana's of the ice cream world. They make it right in front of you with liquid nitrogen. They even have seasonal flavors and have Girl Scout cookie flavors!! The area has plenty of street parking within a block or so and is always clean inside. Staff are always pleasant as well. Bring your friends!

Yelp
A quaint little ice cream shop located in the beautiful Shaw/Tower Grove North neighborhood that has a unique twist on ice cream. They offer outdoor seating to enjoy your favorite flavors in the summer time as well as indoor seating for those winter months when you still cant resist their delicious ice cream (or if you're like me and need to have ice cream at 9:30PM). In addition to classic vanilla soft serve, they offer unique "boozy" ices and nitro ices. The boozy ices are just what they sound like, boozy ice cream which is a perfect fall/winter ice cream option. You still get to enjoy the taste of your favorite dessert, but with the warming effects of the alcohol. My personal faves are the Frozen Dude and the Dark & Fancy. But I gotta say, my favorite thing to get at Ice's are their various nitro Ice's, which are ice creams that have been rapidly frozen with liquid nitrogen and then rapidly softened with a blow torch. Somehow this method gives the ice cream a soft and light creamy texture that is like none I've tasted before. I've tried all of their nitros with various toppings, and I gotta say that nothing beats the classic cookies n cream nitro. Do you remember the first time you tasted the Hershey's Cookies and Cream ice cream bar? And you got that magical sensation that can only come with the first time trying a new favorite kind of chocolate? Thats what the cookies n cream nitro taste like, except I get that feeling EVERY time I get it, without doubt. And after trying every flavor, this is the one flavor I come back to without question. The staff is always friendly and helpful when trying to make a decision. Overall warm environment, great staff, and delicious ice cream. Would definitely recommend and I will be returning more times than I care to admit
