Where to See the Northern Lights in the United States

"Extensive, sparsely populated national forest lands in northern Idaho that offer long stretches of dark-sky corridors; venturing into these higher-latitude, less-developed areas boosts chances of aurora viewing." - Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca is an award-winning journalist and co-founder of Be a Travel Writer, an online course for the next generation of travel journalists. I feel this place doesn't get the proper recognition it deserves. What a beautiful drive on such open roads. We were making our way west, across the U.S., and drove through here after being at Yellowstone National Park. I never see Idaho being advertised at all, let alone its beauty. I am definitely telling everyone I know not to miss the opportunity to travel here, not just through here like we did. I wish we had more time on our road trip, but we had limited time to make it back to Canada and onto the ferry as we live on Vancouver Island 🌴. I will be back again soon...

We did the Lone Lake trail and although it nearly killed me, it was so worth it. The hike is difficult but the scenery, the flowers, the mountains, and the reward at the end made it worth it.

Freestone flowing streams....with water clear as the high mountain air, they are scacredly serene. Flowing from melting snow and secret spring fed sources. Always shifting, changing by the Earth's Geo forces. Yeah - that's the Idahoe Panhandle where nature abounds. It's impossible not to enjoy the "look around".

These pictures are from a Sea Doo trip down the Couer d'Alene river to Couer d'Alene Lake and up the St Joe River. It's a wonderful trip.

The roads were pretty good, a bit narrow in some places for only one truck/vehicle to go through. Wish there could be more signs and info, better, more clearly marked. We went up the Bunco Brenner Road and drove all the way up to the ridge roads where the scenery was so beautiful of all the mountains. I'm so glad we took the Hummer up. My broken ribs and fingers barely felt the bumps. We went there to go huckleberry picking (July 25, 2022). Most of them were already picked over, especially by the greedy clods that use those rakes. They damage the plants by stripping off not only the leaves and bark of the branches, but also the little green berries that don't get to ripen on the branch. Wildlife depend on these berries too. The aphids are really bad again this year, so the leaves and huckleberries were sticky. So were our fingers. We also had those little green buggers on our clothes. Really wish they'd go away. Not enough lady bugs and other critters that eat them anymore.

So beautiful, peaceful, and not crowded like every single body of water in Oregon! There's no homeless, no trash on the ground, the campground is clean, and folks are friendly! We'll be back often!

Went here with my family and we barbecued, then after had some s'mores. It's a lovely park and has a lot of pretty plants and greenery. Really love this spot and it's always very quite with nothing but birdsong to hear.

Loved this place! Beautiful Forest that you could get lost in, great for Huckleberry and other Berry picking. Lots of wildlife and not many people once you get back far enough.
