Iggy's Doughboys & Chowder House

Great place to come walk around enjoy the beach, take a few pictures and enjoy a lobster roll. I personally the hot lobster roll over the cold as many of the flavors come out naturally. I loved the natural taste, no mayo, no fillers and only leaf of lettuce for looks. It is the most affordable and best tasting lobster roll I ate while being in Rhode Island. The white sauce clam chowder was also a big hit.

I recently had the chance to dine at Iggy's Clam Cakes and Chowder in Rhode Island, and it was a delightful experience! The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, perfect for a laid-back meal by the beach. The clam cakes were a highlight—crispy on the outside and packed with fresh clams inside, they were simply irresistible. Pairing them with their rich and creamy chowder was a match made in heaven. Each spoonful was filled with flavor, and you could really taste the quality of the ingredients. The service was friendly and efficient, making the experience even better. Whether you're a local or just visiting, Iggy's is definitely a must-try for anyone who loves authentic Rhode Island seafood. I can't wait to return for more of those delicious clam cakes! Highly recommend! 🦪🌊

Google
The best new England chowder we've had so far. Pick up your order, find a bench and enjoy your meal by the beach watching the sunset. A great experience!

Google
We wanted to sample the local fare, and we heard good things about Iggy's. We went as a group and tried the fish and chips, clam chowder, clam cakes, and the dough boy's. The white clam cost was like potato soup and was good, the red clam coffee was more like a stew and it was okay. The clam cakes tasted better dunked in the chowder. The dough boy had a sweet flavor similar to a donut, which was tasty. There was a long line the entire time we were there. It took about an hour to get our food due to how busy they were. They had tables outside so you could wait at them.

Google
If you want great fresh seafood, you go to Iggy's. Friendly staff onboard, great service, along with quality food. The menu offers great variety and quality preparation. Nothing seems to be prepared a month in advance like some eateries. I know a little exaggeration there. One of the key giveaways is your salad, if prepared way in advance. Everything is fresh at Iggy's, and have never had a dissatisfying entree. Get your butt down there and I guarantee your spirits will be lifted.

Google
This review is actually for the Iggys bar next door, specifically the Outdoor Tiki bar. This is a hidden gem! Oakland beach is a family beach with swimming and lots of activity. Car shows on every other Tuesday night. Windsurfers to watch and cool foil boards. Lots of sailing too. Low tide allows you to walk out long ways into the water. The tiki bar behind Iggys is awesome! Buck a shuck during the week and incredible views of the water and best sunsets in the area! Can be crowded so need to be patient while enjoying the moment.

Google
Second time coming to this area and it was great. Eating and then enjoying the beautiful scenery is the best. Love the vibe of this area, so laid back.

Google
Drinks were awesome. Service excellent. I would definitely get the lobster roll over the fried clams next time.fish tacos were excellent. Bloody Mary highly recommended.😎

Yelp
I have eaten both the clam chowder and the Doughboys (basically hunks of fried dough, some glazed) at this location in the 1990's and thoroughly enjoyed both - the chowder was the best I've tasted anywhere in New England. I bought cans of their condensed white RI Clam Chowder recently. It comes in 15 ounces cans and an equal amount of whole milk needs to be added when heating. This produced to nice size bowls of chowder to which I added a healthy amount of butter, some red pepper flakes, and chopped dill. And I also served with whole Oyster Crackers! This was great clam chowder, hard to even tell it was canned and condensed.

Yelp
Stepping up to the Window at Iggy's in Point Judith instantly takes me back 60 years ago. To the Clam Shacks in Oakland Beach, located in Warwick Rhode Island. Recently I dined twice this past week from that very same window. The Iggy's staff are always on top of their game. Lots of cleaning, hustling and overall cheerfulness. Both Days the Clam Cakes were perfect. The chowder was a clear RI Clsm Chowder. It was a little bit on the salty side, but definitely tasted close to perfect. The second day was a Manhattan Red Chowder. It's a must stop for my family every time we go back to Rhode Island.

Yelp
Stopped by this establishment over the weekend to get my seasonal fish and chips fix, and I wasn't disappointed. We did online ordering and picked it up at the window. Saturday afternoon in the summer, and the place was hopping. It was a little confusing when you go to pick up since they were calling out orders. But for online orders, you'll get a text message when it is ready, and then you go to the pick-up window. The food was delicious. The fish and chips entree was great, a decent amount of fries, and the slab of breaded fried fish was amply portioned. I left without feeling bloated and like I overdid it, so that was a plus. They forgot my chowder, so that was a bummer. We also got the fried dough too which was very fresh and tasty. Parking is pretty much just along the street. Relaxing vibe. Clean bathrooms. I'd go back again if I were in the area.

Yelp
One of the best meals I've had since moving to Rhode Island. Definitely recommend sitting at the patio if the weather is nice, and enjoy dining with a nice sunset view over the beach. Meals were prompt and the waitstaff were friendly. Will come again for my seafood craving or for the clam cakes!
google avatar

Lynne L.

Yelp
My favorite chowdah in New England! Go in May or September, unless you have several hours to waste. The lines are around the block and there's very little seating. Hours change off season, so check the website.

Yelp
Iggys doughboys & chowder house is a Rhode Island staple servings the best seafood and grill food throughout the state. Pros: great variety of New England seafood with popular items like clam cakes, chowder, lobster rolls, and so much more to choose from. Pricing is standard for a seafood joint, I ordered the lobster roll meal which was $26 and change and came with fries and a fountain drink/water. Sandwich only would have been around $22-23. Doughboys and clam cakes are a must try here and is not a real visit unless you order at least a half dozen of each. The clam cakes and doughboys were both soft and tasty and always fresh. I've been coming here for years and never had a bad experience. Did not order clam chowder but have had both their white and red chowders and are magnificent. Best to dip your clam cakes in the chowder if you for that route! With beach side views at the Oakland beach location, the scenery is unmatched and scream summer in every bite and view. There is indoor and outdoor seating with single person bathrooms accessible. In addition, they sell dels lemonade here which is a great new addition since I last came here, offering ng g the classic lemon and watermelon flavors. Cons: Lines to order and parking can get very crowded which can be frustrating but the service is nice and quick. You order outside and wait for your number to be called. If you have an outside table, be sure to be wearing sunscreen as there are no table umbrellas to help block the sun. Verdict: If you are visiting Rhode Island or lived here forever and need a great spot for seafood that doesn't break the bank, Iggys is a phenomenal spot to choose and every experience will be one to remember. An RI summer is not a true summer until you hit iggys at least once in the season!

Yelp
Passing through on our way to the Cape and needed a place to get dinner. The wife found this place on a Google search. We love our fried seafood in my family. This place legitimately blew us away both with the food quality and the size of the portions. This could be a contender for best clam chowder in New England. I've had it at some pretty well known joints and this was perfectly thick and flavorful the way I like it.
google avatar

Richard S.

Yelp
Great place for a RI summer meal in the fresh RI air. For five of us we got a dozen clam cakes, and each had a cup of either creamy New England or the RI chowder in a clear broth. All were delicious as was an order of fried clam strips for the table. Washed it down with a Del's lemonade. In July, it doesn't get better than this.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here with a local after landing at PVI. We were hungry and tired from the trip and Iggy's was the cure for what ailed us! It was a beautiful summer day, so the line was long but it moved quickly, and the order taker was especially friendly! We ordered the clam cakes and the seafood platter with clear clam chowder. The food was ready relatively quickly and we found partially shaded seating. The seafood platter was expertly fried and the accompanying coleslaw was a perfect compliment! Our local friend raved about the clam cakes but I thought they were just OK. Lots of dough, not too much clam. Clear clam chowder was excellent! I had never had it that way and it was a great way to just taste the clams without distraction from gloppy cream and acidic tomatoes (NE and Manhattan varieties are also available). They were a little stingy on proving things like napkins and ketchup, which necessitated a few trips back to the counter to stock up. There was an owner / manager behind the counter who was very invested in whether or not we were enjoying our food (we were!). He was super friendly! Iggy's is definitely worth a visit!

Yelp
Exactly what you'd want from a casual New England seafood spot. The white clam chowder was delicious, rich, creamy, and full of flavor. We tried clam cakes for the first time and loved them. They kind of reminded us of hush puppies. I had the warm lobster roll, which was buttery and so good. My husband got the fish and chips and thought it was excellent. Service was great, super friendly and efficient. The restaurant is right off Oakland Beach in Warwick, so we took a little walk on the beach after lunch, which was such a perfect way to wrap up the meal!

Yelp
Wow this place was good! We went on Memorial Day, so there was a long wait time, but getting on the waotlist was a breeze and the staff we all really nice! I got the chowder flight (the Lobster Bisque was sooooo good). I also got cold Lobster roll, it was good, but if I'd definitely get the hot lobster roll next time! I also had the seasonal sangria and it was very yummy. Would absolutely come here again (:

Yelp
A classic - I come when I'm visiting for the chowder and clamcakes. It always meets expectations. The menu pricing strategy however does. Ordering is window service and there is usually a line. There are multiple lots so parking may take a moment but you can usually find a spot. While waiting this go around I realized the pricing strategies did not make sense. For example, if you order the chowder and clamcakes bundle, you actually pay a bit more than if you ordered the chowder and 3 clamcakes a la cart (something they don't ring up since it isn't the "bundle"). It's little things like that where it seems strategically designed to lead you to thing you're getting a deal when really you aren't. The service is mediocre. It could be due to the nonstop orders coming out the window and the constant line but the team is usually ready for you to leave before you step up. Additionally, the latest time the bathroom supplies were being kept in the... Sink? Overall, it's a Rhode Island staple so if going for the brand recognition it's a must. For the food and experience you're better off trying others if wanting something more impressive especially for the cost.

Yelp
There are so many places I wanna try in this area however whenever I visit I always wind up back here. This time I came with three friends who had never been so I wanted to introduce them to this beautiful little spot. Unfortunately since my last visit they have a large chain link fence surrounding the restaurant as they create a little park next to it so it blocks quite the view. We sat outside and ordered a plethora of items; oysters Rockefeller special, my favorite broiled seafood platter, clam cakes, lobster rolls and shrimp tacos. Everything was absolutely delicious as usual and our server, Julia, was so sweet and accommodating when I asked her for a bag of ice so I can take home my leftovers for a four hour ride. I will continue to come here for the excellent food, atmosphere and service.
google avatar

Alisonn H.

Yelp
I got the combo for $13, and it was really filling. They had a lot of seating because it was off-season, but the wait was long. The server was nice; she quickly corrected my order from clam to white chowder.
google avatar

Abigail P.

Yelp
Love it here, great nostalgic summer spot!! Get the doughboys, clam cakes and a chowder after a hot day in the sand. Delicious fresh fast and great costumer service. I love sitting by the ocean and enjoying my food. Thank you for being a Rhode Island staple

Yelp
We visited Iggy's on a Gloomy Wednesday Afternoon. It was a cool day but nice enough to sit outside on the lunch benches by the water -- however the seagulls said otherwise, so we headed in. We got a small smorgasbord lol. Starting with the calamari, I loved it with the banana peppers, gave a nice tang. It had a nice crunch but not hard or chewy, pretty perfect. The curly fries were great, seasoned well but not too salty. We were shoveling them in. The stuff quahog was nice, neither of us had tried it before -- the meat to filling ratio was welcomed, glad we didn't get mouthful of breadcrumbs. Finally, the lobstahhh rolls. So we got the ones with butter, not sure what style that is. I'd give them a 5/10.. definitely not the best we've had in NE. Pretty plain, no real flavor and a little chewy. The star of the meal I'd def say was the calamari and stuffed quahog. And of course we couldn't go to Iggy's w/o getting the doughboys (not pictured) we got them with cinnamon sugar and they were DELICIOUS!

Yelp
I used to live in this neighborhood (Oakland Beach) and would always see the line out the door daily, when in season. Iggy's is definitely a RI classic; growing up, everybody talked about Iggy's in the summer. On our last visit in Autumn, we had a lovely experience. I haven't seen the updated outdoor area since moving out of state. They had picnic tables and this area was spacious and perfect for a picnic. There's a boardwalk, playground, and a small beach nearby, for when you're done eating and want to burn some calories. We ordered at the outdoor counter. Thankfully there was no line due to it being a weekday, early in the day, and not being summer or it would've been a different scene. The food came out fast, hot, and it was delicious. I had to get their clam cakes, clam chowder, and Del's lemonade (another RI classic). Dip the clam cake in the chowder and take in the nostalgic RI summer taste. Overall, an iconic spot that will for sure be part of the RI's past and future.

Cassi A.

Yelp
Clam cakes were soggy. Lobster roll didn't have much lobster for the price. Chowder was great! Nice location with outside seating
google avatar

Mary Lou B.

Yelp
The clam cakes and chowder bring me back to the Rocky Point days. Love coming here when I visit R.I. Good food and ample seating. Also had room for ice cream and it did not disappoint.
google avatar

Tim L.

Yelp
Best clam chowder and quahogs in Warwick. For us it's a must eat every time we are in town for a tournament.
google avatar

Yawei B.

Yelp
I have been to Iggy's before. I like their location and dough boy. I tried their hot lobster roll for the first time at this visit, it was ok. I ordered hot lobster roll dinner combo, it comes with fries and coleslaw, choice of salad or chowder. I choose White chowder, and it's good. Price is very reasonable.

Deb G.

Yelp
Got the clam cakes and chowder but there must have been a clam shortage! Chowder was mostly potatoes and clam cakes should have been call fried cake balls. Also pricier than all the other fish restaurants of the same atmosphere, size and location. Sorry, it did not do it for me.

Pam C.

Yelp
SAVE YOUR MONEY!!Iggy's Shame on You!!! This was an absolute joke to be charging $50.00 for these 2 extremely Small Fish & Chips!!!! Very disappointed in our visit! Next time we'll be going next door to Top of the Bay! Two Thumbs Down for Iggy's!!
google avatar

Tee Z.

Yelp
We love Iggy's Fun staff, good New England food and you're on da water. Plenty of free parking
google avatar

Nancy B.

Yelp
The service was excellent; the ambiance was good. Loud, but in a good way. The food was not. My fiance and I each had a cup of white chowder, which was good. He purchased a fried seafood dinner and I ordered full-bellied clams. His dinner was good but mine was very disappointing. The claims were closer to clam strips - I saw no bellies. Some of them were hard, like gum. The cost? $87.48, before tip. I have been visiting Iggy's for many, many years but will not return. Someone needs to take a look at the kitchen output.
google avatar

Adam B.

Yelp
I just don't understand the race with fries foods. Clean fast food environment, and pleasant staff, but I'm just not interested in the food. It's not McDonald's, but I'm definitely missing what sets them apart and brings in the crowds. Chowder was just okay. Crab cakes were almost 100% fried bread.
google avatar

Nicholas P.

Yelp
Love this place nice kids working the window bring money this place coast is $90 bucks it's a summers must we take the drive down ever summer best clam cakes in rhode island and sea food
google avatar

Sharon K.

Yelp
I was really looking forward to eating a hot lobster roll but the lobster was rubbery and dry. There was absolutely no melted butter on it. There is no ambiance at this place. You walk up to an outside window to order and sit inside in a room of booths with zero personality.
google avatar

Anna M.

Yelp
So charming and delightful! The food is always hot, fresh, and consistent. The service is always kind and welcoming, and the dining room has a beautiful view of the beach if you go during daylight or sit outside in the summer! Highly recommend :) The lobster bisque is always a favorite, but if you go, you MUST try the calamari!
google avatar

Karen N.

Yelp
We were sucked in by the reviews. Where do I start? The ice water was cold and icy. The clam chowder was full of potatoes. Hard potatoes. Not much clam. In fact I had two pieces that were actually recognized by my mouth as clams. The other microscopic pieces were just not enough. I consider myself a pretty easy person to please most of the time with food. We are also New Englanders. Considering this is what they are supposedly known for, we ordered clam chowder. If I weren't so hungry, we would have returned it and left. CAMPBELL's is better. My partner's clam cakes were great if you were looking for a fried corn bread. No clams to be found. Ridiculous. Didn't taste at all like clams. But the water was amazing. Do better. Don't waste your hard earned money on this food.
google avatar

Dee W.

Yelp
Everything was great. Had clams casino, hot lobster roll, Cole slaw, and steamers. I wish I lived here! The food is always amazing.

Yelp
Welp, I'm just going to say it -- I think Iggy's might be a bit overrated. I had read prior to our visit that it was 'an institution' in RI so when we decided to visit Oakland Beach for a laid back morning of sitting waterside. It was noon and a sandwich and fries sounded good. After waiting in line for a few we made our way up to the window and placed an order -- fish sandwich & chips, grilled cheese and a couple lemonades. The grilled cheese was a-ok. Not the best but certainly not the worst. The bacon (which I added) was crispy (which is always a plus in my world) but sortof clumped up in the middle so I ended up opening the sandwich and redistributing. The fish sandwich was disappointing -- as the menu states that it's supposed to come w/ lettuce, a tomato and tartar sauce -- ours did not. According to hubs the fish was good, albeit, a little on the small side and could have used the lettuce/tomato. We thought about going back up to the counter but the line was so intense at this point it seemed silly to try. A couple other items of note: +/- there is a beach side patio with fantastic views of the water... although I noted no umbrellas so it could get a little hot under the sun. There is an interior dining area but no AC. So if you're looking for a respite from the heat you aren't going to find it at Iggy's. +/- they do have a restroom but 1 stall for each M/W. So on a busy day it might take a minute to get in there. Good luck if you have a toddler who announces loudly "I have to go pee pee!" +/- there's plenty of parking down the way on Oakland Beach Ave, both sides of the road. It's a short walk.. just so you're prepared.

B M.

Yelp
This place appears to be a local favorite. I can see why it's scenic, casual, family, friendly, etc. however, the food is nothing to rave about.

Patrick M.

Yelp
3 words, "Rhode Island Chowder" if that's not you move along. Iggys RI version is the bomb.
google avatar

Dariel O.

Yelp
Food and service are very good And the staff super friendly. We came visiting from Miami, Fl and will strongly Recommend a visit if you come to the Ocean State.

Lovin L.

Yelp
Fun place to take out of t owners! They have great fried clam strips and bellies. A little something for everyone. *Reservations do not take precedence over people waiting however. We always have to wait for a table despite having a reservation. I'm not sure why they are on open table.

Betty G.

Yelp
I have not been to Iggy's for a year and was disappointed to learn items are a la carte. Previously, the baked scrod at the chowder house had coleslaw , French fries, and a chowder. No longer. It now has baked fish and a combo upgrade of $4.89 for a drink and a side. I checked the Boardwalk menu and see that baked scrod comes with soup or a salad. No butternut squash. No bread. Miss the old menu.

Jax C.

Yelp
Food was good, expensive now. The reason for the 2 stars is management needs to train girl who cleans tables. Lucky we were done with the meal. The girl cleans the tables was cleaning with a chemical and sprayed table with wind blowing and chemical blew in our face. Not even sorry, very poor training and last time going to iggys.

Maria R.

Yelp
Clam chowder snd lobster Mac and cheese so so good would definitely recommend this place
google avatar

Leonard K.

Yelp
Visiting from LA and was recommended this spot by a local. My family and I LOVED this place. The fried calamari and lobster bomb was so good. Shoutout to our server Ashley J. She was a phenomenal waitress who gave us good recommendations and always checked up on us. Give this young lady a raise! We'll definitely be back next time we're in the area. I'll be sure to save room for ice cream and sweets from next door lol (Iggy is clearly the King of this block)
google avatar

Kim S.

Yelp
This was some amazing food here at a RI landmark. As usual, you order from a window and then wait for your name to be called to get your order. We ordered the seafood platter and three doughboys with cinnamon sugar. The platter had scallops, shrimp, clams, fries, clam cakes and onion rings. Oh! Fish too! It was a huge portion of food for the price ($28) and the quality was outstanding. We had never had a clam cake before, but I like those! We did have a cup of white chowder that was included in the platter. The doughboys were reminiscent of beignets. It's a restaurant by the ocean. Beautiful views and people not caring that their hair is a mess! Great place for great food.
google avatar

Brian W.

Yelp
Classic riverfront vibes for lobster rolls and clam cakes, complete with ample outdoor seating and several parking lots - evidence of how popular they are. The chowder is pretty good too although it didn't blow me away like some of their competitors. Being a more fast casual place the ambiance is relaxed, the outdoor picnic tables in a gravel lot are perfect if a bit exposed, indoor bathrooms are nice but a but limited given how big the crowd can get. And yes, the lobster rolls are pretty good. Clam cakes are good if that's your sort of thing, coleslaw isn't bad. Green salad is, well, a salad. And the doughboys are definitely a local thing, don't mistake them for a malasada, as close as they may be.
google avatar

Dennise K.

Yelp
It took me forever to FINALLY get here and wowzah! Who wouldn't love fried dough?! The clam chowdah is delish, too. If you have visitors in town, take them. Well, go even if you don't. I went off season which was dreamy: no tourisits! There are several locations one of which has a fireplace for a cozy experience.
google avatar

Yelp
I really do love iggys. Got to stop here twice this trip, so I sampled several things. One thing I didn't remember is that some things seem really well priced while others are not well priced. Examples--burger was $5, cup of chowder was better priced than a lot of places and is one of the best, clam cakes and doughboys both very reasonable. Fish sandwich for $10, not being very big, seemed steep in comparison. Frozen lemonade a bit high for the size. I enjoyed the clam cakes more than I expected to--I liked dipping them in the chowder. Onion rings not worth getting. But the doughboys have my heart forever. (Note: we didn't actually get the burger, but it was very tempting!)
google avatar

Lindsay C.

Yelp
Service was great and fast. The white chowder and the stuffies were also excellent. The stuffed shrimp, however, were a letdown. The stuffing was strangely sweet and didn't compliment the shrimp. I would return and try something else, though
google avatar

Armand

Yelp
Fresh Cod was not served on Friday about noon at the Iggys Chowder House. A whitefish was substituted instead that was stringy when chewed. Not like light and flaky Cod. We spent $55.00 with coupons and purchased our own drink. Bought 6 and get six free doughboys and spent about $1.00 for each that was a bit pricey. Doughboys were delicious. Husband enjoyed the chowder and clam cakes that had lots of clams in each. Service at the counter very good
google avatar

Mark P.

Yelp
Something like a four, I guess. Quintessentially touristy enough to be everything yet was somehow missing something. I don't know what, but something. I grew up in Cumberland and my dad hung out on this beach in the 50s so I think it's a pretty cool spot. The experience, the place, the space, is something more than the food which helps somehow elevate it. Ordering was somewhat confusing. Inside, outside, online, upside down, who, what, where? Otherwise, chowder and cakes were pretty good, especially with having such an awesome backdrop.
google avatar

Jesse L. R.

Yelp
It's always summer at Iggy's! Although any season is good, summertime is always a favorite to come here and grab some delicious food to eat by the water! I am always a fan their clam cakes, which still have real pieces of clam inside, unlike so many others. Their chowder is always good as well. I usually get the fish and chips, which has a generous portion of fish and is always fresh and delicious!
google avatar

Sl C.

Yelp
I am not a big seafood eater so I wasn't sure at first that Iggys would have many choices for me. I got the chicken parm and I gotta say, it was hands down one of the best chicken Parms I have ever eaten! The chicken tasted fresh and the sauce had a bit of spice to it but not unpleasantly so. I also loved that angel hair pasta was a choice rather than penne. The fresh roll and side salad rounded out my dinner and it was so good! Also had the chocolate cake which I ate the next day as dinner was so deliciously filling! I will be back again for the food! A++
