Iglesia de Santa María la Mayor

The best part is the outside and it is stunning stone work. The inside is rather plain but still interesting though. It is definitely worth to pay 1€ to climb the tower. The view of the city isn’t very interesting but the cathedral is. Be careful though as the bells still ring every 15 minutes and they are loud if you are at the top.

Beautiful church architecture. We were there just in time for mass and watched a lovely couple celebrate their anniversary. Good to see that it is used by the local community. Worth a visit

Currently under rennovation in 2025, visitors can continue to enter the church. The basilica of Santa Maria is considered Pontevedra's main church, functioning as a cathedral. It is a catholic church dating back to the 16th century. It is the same site of a former Romanesque church dating back to the 15th century.

I had the chance to visit the Real Basílica de Santa María a Maior in Pontevedra, and it was a stunning sight. This beautiful Gothic church, with its intricate stone façade and impressive rose window, stands as a masterpiece of religious architecture. The details on the main portal are particularly captivating, showcasing figures and symbols that reflect its historical significance. The basilica exudes a sense of grandeur and serenity, making it a must-see for anyone exploring Pontevedra.

The church is beautiful. I bought a ticket to climb the stairs and see Pontevedra from the towers. Tickets are sold inside the church and cost 5 euros. The church is small but the architecture is amazing, very detailed and the artworks are worth watching closely. If you are taking photos inside churches, please be respectful and do it discreetly, no flash and no big equipment, including selfie-sticks.

Very beautiful church, and heavenly big. You can look everywhere and everything is beautiful. The entree is free. Don't miss it. The artifacts are incredibly beautiful. I don't know if you can climb the tower. We were not able to find that. But i think it should be beautiful.

A lovely little church in the centre of a nice city. Something I would recommend to visit at night. A small donation of 1€ you go up to the "Mirador" and while you go to the top there are a couple of museum rooms to enjoy some religious artifacts. A nice church which we didn't look around but worth the time to sit and enjoy it's beauty.
