Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Conceição

A beautiful historic church in the center of Portimão. Not large, but full of charm and peaceful atmosphere. The interior features traditional Portuguese azulejos and a lovely altar. Worth a short stop while exploring the old town.

This is a lovely, traditional, and welcoming Catholic church in Portimão. It offers Mass on Sundays at 8:30 AM, 11:30 AM, and 6:00 PM. It is considered one of the most beautiful churches in the area. Although the Mass is conducted in Portuguese, regular churchgoers find it easy to follow. There are many altar servers, and the choir is quite good. The seating is comfortable; however, the kneelers are made of solid wood and can be quite uncomfortable for kneeling. Locals are fortunate to have such a wonderful church, and it is definitely worth a visit for visitors.

We were on a very long cruise on NCL last year and one of the stops was Portimao. We got off the ship and walked around the old town using google maps. Lots of beautiful buildings and we took lots of pictures including this 15th century catholic church.

We spent here Christmas and two week days. The local priest helds the mass in a beautiful, full of honor way. The choir sings nicely. The church itself is pretty as well. The community seems to be engaged in the igreja’s life. I would say you can pray here and take part in a mass with no worries something will dissapoint you.

It's very beautiful from the outside. I loved it inside too. Decorated with red flowers for Christmas just looked amazing. Little statue of John Paul 2 .
