Beautiful church in Evora. Highly recommend visiting. The history is amazing. Worth using a guide to learn more as you visit. Free to enter.

This beautiful small church is attached to the chapel of bones. The outside the beautiful and so is the inside. It's a great stop as your're exploring the surrounding area and the best part is, it's free. It's not very busy and depending on when you get there, you could be the only one in the church

I am always amazed at the architecture. Definitely worth checking out as it is next door to Chapel of Bones. Lots to look at and admire.

A church with a stunning indoor design!! The azulejos on the walls, the black and white stones through the roof, and the characteristic structure of the roof lines. It was totally worthy to visit and no entrance fee was needed. Unlike some churches in Evora, it was open on Sunday. I definitely recommend to visit.

This is a beautiful church, with lots to see. Perhaps most well known is the Chapel of Bones, but ironically, it was the place where my family and I spent the least amount of time. It's fascinating, but only a single room. So in some ways, it was a bit disappointing. However, upstairs there is a huge collection of nativity scenes from all around the world. There are hundreds of them, and it was absolutely amazing to see the different styles and interpretations of nativity scenes from different cultures. I eventually got tired, but my daughter would have easily spent hours looking at them all. I had to shuffle her along. There is also a very small museum with paintings and other artifacts to view. This is a great place to spend an afternoon. I came wanting to see the Chapel of Bones, not knowing any of the other things that were here, but I enjoyed everything else immensely. The church itself is free to visit, while entering the Chapel of Bones requires the purchase of a ticket, which also includes seeing the nativity scenes and the museum. It's very reasonably priced and well worth it.

Yelp
OK - For the purposes of full disclosure, I have a thing for visiting ossuaries. Yes, it is macabre and bizarre, and TBH, I can't explain why. The Chapel of Bones, which is part of this church and accompanying museum, has been on my list for quite a while and is in the historic city center that is a UNESCO World Heritage site (although the church and chapel are not specifically part of the site.) The chapel is more than just the bones. There are also some frescoes and other architectural features that are really worth seeing. Presumably because it was almost Christmas, there was a display of multiple nativity scenes in the museum.

Yelp
My wife and I were here on a Gate1 tour, we went on a morning Evora city tour, and the first stop was the Sao Francisco Church (Igreja de São Francisco), which is famous for its Ossuary chapel (Capela dos Ossos- Chapel of Bones, whose walls are decorated with thousands of human bones and skulls. One of the s girls was really scared with the bones and I comforted her (11 years old) and she calmed down thereafter. An estimated 5,000 corpses were exhumed to decorate the walls of the chapel. The bones, which came from ordinary people who were buried in Évora's medieval cemeteries, were arranged by the Franciscans in a variety of patterns. The church itself is huge, beautiful, Gothic style, with 12 open chapels.

Yelp
Absolutely a beautiful church which is nest door to the Chapel of the Bones. Originally built in 1376 but only parts of the church and cloister remain from that period. They have a massive collection of Nativity scenes housed in a gallery above the church. Also magnificent views from the roof of the church.

Yelp
St. Francis Church has a lot of collection of the nativity scene model or items. It is also a big church in Évora UNESCO heritage town. Although the church did not classify as UNESCO site, it is already famous with the chapel of the bone. The nativity scene on the top floor has all kind of collection. I have not seen a church has this type of artist collection of nativity scene from different country. I have see the scene make related to Mexican, Chinese, Northern Europe, and more. Some creativity of the scene including Picasso type finish. Some has on plate or gold paper cut. The church was build in 15th century. It has the gothic detail. I like color glass window reflecting the sun ray at the wall. The ceilings are high and vaulted. It look awesome.

Yelp
This is a spot not to miss. The chapel is really impressive. The Franciscans wanted to remind us that life is short and the afterlife is forever. Even though it's made of bones it's not frightening. There is a great museum here as well. Don't miss it! Also, the church is lovely. The whole experience was well worth the trip out to Evora from Lisbon. We booked a tour to take us there.

Yelp
The chapel of bones! See the photos and contemplate your demise. 5000 inhabitants of the local cemetery went reinterred here and arranged in dramatic order. Look up as you enter the Capelo. How charming--Nós ossos que aqui estamos pelos vossos esperamos ("We bones that here are, for yours await"). Add this destination to your itinerary!
