Rarely leave negative reviews, but I have no other choice. I can stand by what I say here because I’ve stayed at other hotels in Banyuwangi with similar rates that offered far better experiences. This place fell short in every possible way.
First, it’s completely unreasonable for a hotel with this kind of topography to offer no shuttle or transport between the car park and the lobby. I understand that many guests come with drivers or as part of tour groups, but there are also people like me who drive themselves. I had to walk through darkness, uneven roads, and pouring rain just to reach the lobby. What if someone fell and got injured? It’s a liability waiting to happen.
Second, the room. The rate is excessive for what feels like a neglected and poorly maintained property. There is no air conditioning, which I could accept if the air was fresh and dry. Instead, the room felt damp and humid. I saw spider webs, thick dust, a tissue with a questionable brown stain, and a balcony that floods and becomes filthy when it rains. I was only given one towel, and the entire room had a musty smell, like it hadn’t been cleaned or aired out properly.
Breakfast was disappointing. For the price, running out of coffee during breakfast service is unacceptable. The food was bland. The staff tried, but when I brought up issues, they just stood there, unable to respond or offer any solutions. I didn’t expect five-star service, but I did expect basic professionalism.
Overall, this hotel is overpriced and poorly run. Even the beautiful view does not justify the risk of navigating a dangerous road just to stay in a damp room, use a dirty pool, eat a subpar breakfast, and deal with unhelpful service.
Stay elsewhere. I recommend Dialoog Hotel, Villa So Long, Teras Ijen, or Lintang Luku Tent instead.
