Typical Roman restaurant, we ordered carciofi, believe it took the chef a long time to prepare taste was very good, stuffed calamari was stunning, carbonara is a must, chocolate dessert was a surprise, lingue di gatto was my favorite so a must, the base I didn't like because it covered up the cream taste. Oh the bread shall add more 🌟. Also the staffs there are very friendly, thank you.

Google
Very nice restaurant! All dishes were delicious: pasta, meat and dessert! Fast and nice service! Thank you very much!

Google
Lovely little cafe about 6 minutes walking distance from the colosseum. The closer cafes appeared very touristy, whereas this one had some more traditional food on offer. The staff were very pleasant, and happy. They went above and beyond with the service. There was no trying to scam us for bottled water or paying for extra bread. They answered our questions and provided us with a lovely service. The coffee was also good. I would definitely return next time I visit Rome!

Google
Thanks to Elena, the service was wonderful, and the breakfast was amazing. We had really good benedict eggs and also for desert some Nutella pancakes.

Nadine Philips

Google
Quant restaurant with inside and outside seating. Servers are very kind and the wine and food was fabulous! Had stuffed calamari and my husband had spinach ravioli that was so good and we followed it up with tiramisu of course!

Google
Excellent service by Diana. Great breakfast dish (the best bacon I've ever had). Nice ambience. Near Colosseum. Reasonable price.

This was the first restaurant we went to when we arrived in Rome. We found it by accident. We were very pleased with the service, especially by Pietro. He was very polite and friendly. As for the food, the lamb chops were very tender, the burrata was fresh and creamy. Good dark beer.

Google
Close to the Colosseo, perfect place for our lunch break during our self guided tour of the sight. Great food and great service.

Jill S.

Yelp
Wait staff were wonderful and attentive. We had 3 diff pastas - Ravioli was delicious as was the Duck ragout. Great wine selection - the Rose was lovely!

James L.

Yelp
Really wonderful food! Authentic Italian food! They were very accommodating for a party of 8 walk-in. Food came out in a timely manner service was fantastic. He was very polite and knowledgeable!

Paul C.

Yelp
Great service since the moment we walked through the door. Pietro was a fantastic waiter. I had the truffle carbonara and my husband had the Tagliolini with Duck Ragout. Both dishes were incredible and extremely flavorful. Ended our dining experience with the tiramisu and some Prosecco . Was a wonderful experience and can't wait to come back to try other items on the menu.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick bite. We really just wanted some meats/cheeses and a bottle of wine until it stopped raining. The wine was good (as the rest of Italys wine) and the meat/cheese board was great as well.

Victoria B.

Yelp
We had amazing pastas (the "messi" fettuccine with cinnamon is absolutely the best...don't be scared by the "cinnamon"...it is very subtle!) and great service (the amazing Piero took such good care of us! Grazzie!). This place showcases the Hebrew influence on Roman cuisine and it slays. We sat outside and it was lovely at dusk despite the heat of late August. Completely recommended!

Ray C.

Yelp
Great service and excellent recommendations! The pasta dishes were very tasty! One of the better meals we have had in Rome. The atmosphere is relaxing and the music is great.

Nicole K.

Yelp
Service was lovely but the food was very average. Not our idea of a "last night in Rome" there was bacon in the carbonara and the lamb was very over cooked and tough.

Yelp
As an American it is hard to judge food from other countries. The bread was phenomenal. Crust on the outside and plush inside. We requested olive oil as it seemed perfect for dipping. We ordered an appetizer of focaccia and prosciutto. Can't go wrong. I was feeling protein starved after a few days of pasta, pizza and gelato to ordered the rib-eye. At 8E/hg it was a good deal. 300grams. Somewhat thin slice. Came with herb butter that could have been more herby. Vegetable and potato side was nice. Steak was medium in some places medium well in others. I'd give it a 3/5. One guest ordered the duck ragu. Other than finding it very salty she thought it was one of the better dishes of our vacation. Other guest ordered ravioli and thought it was fine. Service was great. Interior was warm so we sat outside. Music would have been nice. This restaurant is in sea of restaurants a few blocks from the colosseum. So many choices. Prices were great as it was two blocks away. Also made for a much quieter meal undisturbed by motor vehicle and foot traffic. This restaurant was recommended by our hotel for Romanesque food. Given our overall experience with food on the 3-4 scale I'd say this was par for the neighborhood. Immediate, attentive service and location make it a winner.

Yelp
Really loved this place, was looking for dinner and found this gem and yelp. Was a Sunday night, so was empty and quiet. The food was amazing and service was really great. We like ambiance as well, not the typical touristy place. My 9 year old approved and she's a tough one

Kelly E.

Yelp
We had dinner and breakfast here while visiting Rome. We enjoyed both meals and the service was spot on.

Ed R.

Yelp
Amazing food, great service and amazing ambience. Highly recommend. Not expensive and cold draft beer with delicious wine.

Yelp
Closed. Closed. I walked here on yelp recommendation only to find it shut down. It appears boarded up for a while.

Lena C.

Yelp
Seriously, the BEST meal we had in Rome. I only wish we could've gone back the next day, because we would've been there! Great service and wine recommendations. We started off with some apps that were fried but in the best way. Fried meatballs and this mozzarella rice stick thingie, omg to die for. We weren't too hungry so we shared an entree to get actually be able to try desserts. We had a guinea fowl ravioli in a wine sauce that was incredible. I wanted that dish to last forever. Until dessert arrived. A panna cotta that was out of this world and this magical roasted pear crumble with a creamed ricotta. Yeas. Smooth perfectly creamed ricotta. We stayed a bit longer and finished our wine only wishing we had found this restaurant a day or two sooner in our trip.

Yelp
First lunch after arriving from the airport and train to Rome Terminii station. Took an Uber Black to this place since it's close by to the Colisseum. Restaurant was packed at 2pm but we only waited 15 minutes. Service was excellent but the food was much to be desired. Ordered a 15 Euro pork medallion dish and 10 Euro Amatricani pasta which were both undercooked. Pork was raw inside and the pasta was tough to chew. My GF had a belly and diarrhea from the food. Not a good way to spend time in Rome! Go somewhere else.

Bert M.

Yelp
My ravioli wasn't hot. And the service was painfully slow. And they charge you a €2 service fee for "bread and napkins". Can honestly say this is the first time I've had to pay for a napkin. Not sure how this has such a high rating, I would avoid it personally.

Sarah V.

Yelp
Il Bocconcino is just a few minutes away from the Colosseum and a perfect spot to stop after sight-seeing all day. As with most quality restaurants in Italy, Il Bocconcino closes between lunch and dinner so keep that in mind when planning your trip. The décor is very farmhouse chic and adds to the relaxed atmosphere. We arrived about an hour before closing which was plenty of time but I did feel a little rushed after the kitchen had to remake my dish. I don't remember much else from my meal other than the bucatini and wine. The bucatini was delicious and probably the best red sauce I had while in Italy. The wine, which was local to the area, was terrible (very sulfuric). Overall, the service was friendly, the food was good, and the restaurant was pretty easy to find. I'd recommend stopping by before/after your Colosseum tour out of convenience but it certainly is not worth making a special trip for.

Cole S.

Yelp
With 2 others who speak fluent Italian. Just a scam place. Food was bad, expensive, and had 6€ charged for sitting outside.

Daniel W.

Yelp
This food is gas. The servers are really kind, and it feels like your in a nice Roman restaurant!

Kathleen D.

Yelp
Agitated server. Long lapse of time between app and main course. Medicore food. I'd personally pass on this spot. We had been exploring for most of the morning in the Colloseum area, so we used Yelp to find a close restaurant with good ratings. When we walked up, it looked cute with just a couple streetside tables left. We were seated at one close to the door where we had a great view of all their award stickers. Apparently they've been feted by several important publications over the years, so maybe we just hit them on an off-day. I ordered the spaghetti carbonara (when in Rome..) for my meal, and it wasn't very good. While I liked it more than the one I had in Sicily, it was pretty eggy in a bad way. Despite not being a huge portion, I had to leave some of it behind because I couldn't deal with the taste anymore. We didn't try dessert, so I can't comment on that.

Jill T.

Yelp
Cacio e Pepe of my dreams! This is a sweet little corner restaurant within walking distance of the Colosseum. I was drawn here by the other reviews, and I agree - this is the best meal I had while in Rome. Highly recommend!

Owen G.

Yelp
Good local osteria, with good menu. Prices and service good. Would definately go to it again when staying in the area in Rome

Rosanna S.

Yelp
On our trip to Rome we of course had to take a tour of the Colosseum and that took us over 3 hours! With empty bellies we were starving and where else do we turn for some delicious suggestions, Yelp of course! The thing we learned about our Europe trip is to avoid the touristy restaurants on the main street and go down the little streets as you'll find more authentic restaurants that are less tourist influenced. II Bocconcino was a cute little restaurant with a small sign, so you'll easily miss it if you're not paying attention. We were greeted and seated immediately. It wasn't full, but pretty busy during lunch hours. They offered us bread and took our drink orders. We didn't have any issues with language barrier as our server spoke both Italian and English which was helpful as the menu was in Italian. He suggested some items and told us their specials for the day which was a gnocchi in tomato sauce with fresh mozzarella cheese, as soon as he said it I knew that was what I was ordering. As started we opted for their toasted bread with cooked prosciutto, it was okay. I'm not a bad of cooked prosciutto I preferred it raw. The fiance accidentally ordered it thinking it was the "zuppa" the server had mentioned. I got the gnocchi and SO got their carbonara. The gnocchi was amazingggggg, fresh, light and just the perfect combo of sauce and cheese, YUM! The carbonara was good too, but compared to the gnocchi it didn't leave a lasting impression. I've been dreaming about their gnocchi ever since we got home and every time someone ask me about Rome I always gush about it! Our service was wonderful and the wine that was suggested paired well with our dishes.

Yelp
So far the best meal we had in Italy ( we've been here for 7 days already) and my mom And I are both foodies! Great service, and the food was phenomenal we had the cacio pepe and the pork steak, the meatballs are delish and the cheesecake go die for. Will go back for sure!

Samantha G.

Yelp
Lovely, lovely, lovely. Came for dinner, had the mozzarella app, and the lasagna special, bottle of wine at the servers recommendation was extraordinary. I dream about this food sometimes, both in my sleep and awake. I may move here to be closer to this restaurant. Our server was delightful, the meal was amazing, and I cannot WAIT to go back. Truly blessed to have discovered this place. Abracci e baci

Yelp
This lovely restaurant was spectacular in every way - food, service, and atmosphere. Located just a block from the apartment we were staying in, we ventured out for dinner here a few nights ago. Service was some of the friendliest we've had in Roma - we so appreciated the English they knew, and I always try to speak as much Italian as I know, so we got on well! We started with a liter of the house white wine and a selection of meats & cheeses, followed by our main dishes - I had the paccheri with sea bream and basil; I think there were some caramelized onions in there, as well. Absolutely AMAZING. My husband had the octopus and cous cous and deemed it the most tender octopus he has ever tasted (he eats a fair bit of octopus, when available, haha). We finished with a shared Tiramisu and it was out of this world. Portions were perfect, and the restaurant was so lovely inside. Will absolutely return, when we find ourselves back in Rome!

Joseph K.

Yelp
Food wise five star all the way. Pasta and salad were the dish I ordered, and both them were excellent. We were greeted by very friendly hard working waiter who explained us everything about menu and specials. Do yourself a favor and don't miss this spot.

James I.

Yelp
Fantastic family run restaurant located a short distance from the Colosseum. We went for lunch and had a number of pasta dishes, wine, and fried pumpkin flowers. Everything tasted great and the service was friendly, albeit slightly slow but that's nothing out of the ordinary for Italy.

John O.

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants on our trip to Rome. Service can make or break an experience and Bocconcino is no exception. The staff and service was superb. The waiter recommended options for our dietary needs and even made up an appetizer just for us. I had the lamb and came back for the veil.

Julie G.

Yelp
This was recommended by our Boston travel agent; it was one of 3 restaurants in Rome that we had dinner at. Definitely not my favorite. While the food was pretty good, the outside atmosphere was lacking and the waiter was not attentive. Compared to the other places we dined at in Rome, I'd score this one the lowest. I just didn't feel as relaxed in the atmosphere as we did elsewhere. Wait staff was not very attentive. Maybe because it was a Saturday night, although we arrived early.

Lauren H.

Yelp
Very good food! My husband and I ate lunch at Il Bocconcino after touring the Colosseum. Even though this restaurant is in the vicinity of the Colosseum, it's still far enough away that this isn't a tourist trap. We had the rosemary focaccia/prosciutto for an appetizer. The focaccia was delicious and baked perfectly. I'm not a big meat eater but thought the prosciutto was great. I had the cacio de pepe with pine nuts, and my husband ate the bucanti amatriciana. We both got clean plate awards! Our server was pretty good speaking English. He made attempts to be funny and witty, so everything was good! I would recommend this place.

JP O.

Yelp
This has been our finest dinner in Rome this week. Not far from our VRBO so we'll be back Friday evening. Entrees were excellent; all four of us were ecstatic over our four different choices. Good house wine, friendly service, a chocolate tart that is over the moon (don't pass this one up). Outdoor streetside seating; closed on Wednesdays. Reasonable prices with eclectic choices (rabbit, duck, ravioli specials, herbed pork, catch of the day, and of course pastas). Delicious!

Yase H.

Yelp
Amazing that's all I have to say!!! My friend And I just completed a really long day with lots of walking so we wanted to eat something that had seafood. The appetizer which was the assorted cheese and meat, was great and I it had this little side of jam/jelly sauce that was amazing...it had a little bit of ginger that really just made the dish well worth it. Pasta was on point and the best dish was the smoked octopus w/ couscous. Wow as it melts in my mouth. Great spot!

Nate M.

Yelp
If you are in the Colosseum and Forum area, this is well worth the walk away from the fray to take a deep breath and enjoy a wonderful meal. We went there for lunch and had no wait. They have air conditioning inside, so that was great for a hot day. The food was really fresh and the portions were just right! Definitely recommend!

Susan K.

Yelp
Great late afternoon meal. Pasta all perfectly al dente with just the right amount of sauce. Recommend trying the daily specials - they are on the board for a reason. We had melon and prosciutto and pasta w duck ragu and crispy artichokes. Both were great Wine is also a great deal - so get the bottle and enjoy. We will be back!

Julie M.

Yelp
Our first meal in Rome was so good! Our waiter was helpful and explained what the specials were and translated to English. My husband had the bacon wrapped pork loin that he said was delicious, came with roasted potatoes and a steamed green veggie. I had carbonara, made with goats cheese, so it was saltier than I was used to, but the tanginess of the goat cheese gave that little extra pop of flavor. We started with a rice ball, I could have happily sat there, enjoyed the excellent house red, and munched on those til I dropped! What a wonderful way to start our visit.

Sunny W.

Yelp
From antipasti to dessert, You can experience real Rome. Actually I was afraid of this restaurant due to lack of reviews. However it was unnecessary concern. I strongly recommend carbonara & tiramisu!!!! Other than these two manus, they are also not bad.

Parisa M.

Yelp
Thank you fellow yelp reviewers for not letting me down! My boy friend and I walked around colosseum for about 20 minutes looking for a place to eat. Decided to stop by here after reading the reviews. The customer service and food we have had were amazing. We have spent over a week in Italy and this was by far one of the best meals we had. We came back a second time the next day. Recommend the cuscus octopus if you like seafood and can't go wrong with good old pasta with traditional tomato sauce and bacon. Menu is simple, food is delicious, place is clean and staff are nice.

christina m.

Yelp
Really delicious and close proximity to the Colesseum (5min walk). Indoor area with clean bathroom and a cute outdoor communal seating area. Friendly and attentive staff that could provide Italian or English menus. We split the fresh homemade bucatini pasta with amatriciana sauce which was so good! Creamy cheesy sauce without the heaviness of actual cream. It's wild what they can do with just cheese and pepper, great flavor!. Great selection of wines and some beers to choose from. We would absolutely come here again.

M K.

Yelp
Mediocre. Raviolis (the best in town, apparently) were gross with a brown gravy sauce, my daughter only ate two of them and wouldn't finish. The dish looked thrown together, bad presentation. And this was 16 euros! Salad is boring, just lettuce, carrots and tomatoes. Fried zucchini flowers with mozerella is a greasy mess. I regret eating here, it was an expensive mistake.

Man E.

Yelp
Great food, good service, and reasonable prices. what more do you want? We were renting a small apartment a few blocks from the Coliseum. Most of the restaurant s in the area are mediocre serving pizza and average pasta. We were delighted to find this gem with the best food since we left Tuscany. My wife had the lamb stuffed with pecorino, garlic and rosemary. I chose the ribeye and grilled seasonal vegetables. Both meals were cooked to perfection exuding delicious flavors. Yum! Good wait staff.

Quentin M.

Yelp
Great place good food and wine super service highly recommended. Small terrace on the street

Elianet M.

Yelp
Walked here after visiting the colosseum. Short walk and right as they opened for dinner. I had a lot of high expectations from all of the good reviews. We asked for water before ordering drinks. The server suggested that I could try the wine before buying so that was nice. My brother ordered beer that the server had suggested. We ordered dinner, it was good but wish they had more options. There weren't salad options. Took forever to get the server to bring the check and we never got the beer. We pointed it out in the bill and he apologized. Overall dinner felt like it was missing something.

Richard K.

Yelp
Went late on a Monday evening obviously not crowded service was fine very professiona although it seemed like worker waiting to close which I can't blame I had fish sea bream very good wife veggie pizza very tasty good thin crust House Wine was cheap but good was stayin in neighborhood tiramisu very good creamy Would return but many good restaurants inRome

Joshua P.

Yelp
This place was excellent. I would definitely recommend making the walk (2 blocks maybe) from the Colosseum to eat here! The service was friendly and good and the food was some of the best we've had in Rome!

Lauren D.

Yelp
We stayed in a Airbnb right next to it so we decided to check it out! The fried meatballs were AMAZING!!!!! We then ordered pastas and they were equally as awesome. My husband and I were traveling g with kids and the waiters has great hospitality. If you're near the Colosseum, take the walk 2 blocks over - you won't be disappointed.

Amy L.

Yelp
This place is a 5 minute walk from the Colosseum and it's on a quieter street away from the busy crowds. It was an AMAZING experience. Our waiter was so kind and was happy to give us recommendations. We ordered two appetizers, and 4 entrees. Everything was SO delicious and cooked/seasoned perfectly. Definitely get the ravioli and Bucatini Amatriciana in terms of pasta. As for secondi entrees, the monkfish was probably the best thing I've ever had in my life. I also don't eat meat anymore but I tried a bite of the steak filet with raw salt rock and I wanted to eat the whole plate! Definitely make a reservation and check out this super cute and super wholesome place!

Skai D.

Yelp
The food was great, and it was just far enough away from the Main Street to be comfortable and not too crowded. We really enjoyed the pork fillet wrapped in bacon. One downside was that the phone line was down so we had to pay cash, but that could happen anywhere.

Linus W.

Yelp
Great place with a bright and fresh environment! The buffalo mozzarella is still one of the best I had! Very good! Had a today's special witch was a tortellini filled with eggplant put on a bed of tomato sauce with drops of pesto on it! Delicious! Good and professional staff, no trouble speaking English. Very pleased with my lunch here!

Gary D.

Yelp
The service and food was excellent. We splitter the carbonara and the spaghetti. The Barbara was great wine. Ambience is peaceful and plain relaxing. I'd visit this restaurant for sure.
