On multiple occasions during our time in Rome we thought that it would be cool to find a rooftop bar, get a drink, sit in the sun, and watch the city below.
An hour later, on that very same exceptionally warm, sunny day we happened to run into Il Palazzetto just after visiting the Spanish Steps. We saw the roof, the people, the drinks, and immediately ventured over.
Somehow we just walked in and happened to get a table right away, despite the crowds of people around seemingly looking for the exact same thing we were. It was perfect--directly in the sun, amazing view of the city and the steps, warm weather, and excellent service.
We had a glass of sparking rose and prosecco, which came with green olives and two kinds of tarralini. When I say green olives, I mean the best green olives either of us have ever tasted. So much so that we got more in a much larger bowl (think cereal sized), and we ate every single one of them.
Even though the sun goes down past 8:00pm (at this time of year) they closed up at 7:00pm. Last call was at 6:45, but we had already been there for an hour so the timing was perfect for us, just not so much for the rest of the people outside that wanted to get in.
I can't really comment on anything else food, drink, or view related happening on the floors below us, but up on the roof the drinks were bubbly and chilled, the views were amazing, and the olives were absolutely the best we've ever tasted.
