Where to Stay in Florence: The Best Neighborhoods For Your Visit

"I found “il Pitti” Soggiorno to be a straightforward, affordable option directly across from Pitti Palace, offering comfy private rooms (ensuite or shared) painted in cheery pastels with lots of natural light and parquet floors; the décor is a bit dated but rooms include a desk, wardrobe and electric kettle, and bathrooms feature a rainfall shower and bidet, making it a great no‑frills choice in a quieter neighborhood." - Matthew Kepnes

Absolutely terrible experience. When we arrived, there was no one at reception and the phone number provided by the hotel never answered, even after calling five times. We waited for more than 30 minutes, and only a random person (not staff) helped us by giving us the door code. Once inside, the room was extremely dirty: stained sheets, dust and dirt everywhere, broken and dirty kettle and cup, cobwebs and squashed insects on the walls. The worst part was the massive amount of mold in the bathroom, the bedroom walls, the window area, and even behind the wardrobe… Completely unacceptable and unhealthy. The window didn’t close properly, letting in cold and humidity all night. I do not recommend this place at all. One of the worst accommodations we have ever experienced.

BEWARE!!! The hotel room I received in September was not as promised!! The hotel room differed significantly from what was represented on the Il Pitti website. The room was dirty with visible dirt & dust on the floor, the room smelt strongly of mold and there were numerous air fresheners in the room to try to mask the smell. There was visible black mold in the shower - I have asthma and was very concerned about this!!! The room was hot with no windows and although an air conditioner unit was present, there was no remote. Despite multiple attempts I could not turn the air conditioner on or find the remote. Due to it being self check in there is no one to ask about any of these issues and so I had to get a new hotel in the evening. I would not stay here and regret ever booking this place. The room was non refundable and I am now having to go through a dispute with my credit card. DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE!!!

Sign-in check in does not respond to communication in a timely manner. I encountered many guests who could not find their rooms (no front desk with a person to assist). We went 4 days with room not being cleaned and asked about the rooms being cleaned. Response was "of course we clean the rooms". They cleaned them that day (we were there 10 days) and didn't clean them again. For the last 4 days we had no hot water in the washroom for a shower. In communication they said "we are looking into it". I would suggest book elsewhere.

Do not book this hotel. We arrived 5 1/2 hours ago and the keys that were left for us did not allow us to access the hallway that led to our room. We called the number we were given eight, yes eight times and were told 6 times that someone would arrive within 10 minutes to let us in. The other 2 times we were hung up on. A resident of the building eventually gave us access to the hallway after many hours. Please see the photos attached. What you don't see in the photos is the extreme musty smell of the bathroom and the fact that the air conditioner doesn't not work. We also have no blankets for the bed-only a sheet. I look forward to speaking with any on-site staff who may or may not show up. Update: we stayed for 2 nights and even after continuing to contact them, they never responded back or came to assist us. To their knowledge, after our repeated calls, they were happy to leave us without access to our room. The only positive thing about this hotel was the location.

Read the recent reviews! Do not book here, they'll take your money, might not have a room ready for you, and won't respond to you in any way. We booked the day before, and tried to check in during the evening. Nobody was there. We were let in by the neighbours who knew the door code. "Reception" area had a key in an envelope for somebody else, none for us. We tried to call, and email, but nothing! It's actually insane. On top of all that, it's just a pretty creepy place. My girlfriend was so uncomfortable in there. Other guests we met said to run, and to stay somewhere else. Beware!

Great Stay in the Heart of Florence This hotel was in a perfect location—close to everything in Florence! We loved being able to walk to all the main attractions and still enjoy the comfort of coming back to rest whenever we needed a break. One suggestion: try to check in early, as there’s no traditional reception desk. It’s a self-check-in process, but everything was clearly explained, and the communication from the staff was excellent. They were responsive, helpful, and made everything easy. Overall, it was a great value for the location and comfort. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting Florence!

Although the location is central and walking distance from tons of restaurants, shops, and sights, the rooms are in disrepair. The floor had chunks of wood paneling missing. The room was constantly hot as the A/C did not work. Also, because of the damaged floor, the bathroom door won't fully open or shut. Finding a staff member to speak with or a reply from an email is impossible. A very bad experience.
