Yelp
4 stars for an inexpensive, delicious dinner and a great spot to escape the crowds. When I was there, I was the only tourist in a dining room full of locals -- always a great sign! This restaurant was not far from my hotel on the grand canal, so I thought I'd check it out on my first night in Venice. Despite using my phone for directions, I almost walked right past the unassuming entrance. A staff member welcomed me inside and around the back to the small dining room. On a chilly evening (like the night I was there), this restaurant's 10 tables will fill up FAST. Warmer temps that allow for comfortable dining al fresco will more than double the number of tables available. I was seated promptly without a reservation.
Now, for the meal - The tuna tartare appetizer was delicious. The fish was fresh and bright in color and full of flavor. The carbonara pizza was very good, but not necessarily what I was expecting. From other photos, I thought the egg might be cooked and placed in the center of the pizza. This was more like... scrambled and drizzled over the top. The pizza was still delicious and the dough was obviously fresh. It didn't blow my mind (I'm not sure if my expectations of pizza in Italy were too high) but it was very good and I'd visit this spot again. The staff was very attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable.
