I am quite fond of the ambiance and the scenery offered by this restaurant. The cuisine, particularly the pork ribs accompanied by sausage, is delightful and tender, which I enjoyed with a mixed salad. The prosciutto paired with melon is also a very pleasant choice. The fettuccine ai fungi, prepared al dente, is also quite flavorful. The staff members are all amiable and courteous. The tiramisu also good too hot n worm feel at the same time maybe they put some icecream in the middle and espresso with lady finger all together. I would certainly recommend this establishment if you happen to be in the vicinity and wish to savor the delights of Sassi di Matera. They have menu with pictures so easy for me to understand it.

Food was typical italian cuisine ofcourse, we were served for lunch, we needed to make resetvstion. Terrace is small so ee have to sit inside. Pork cutlet was dry, shrimps were juicy and good you get 4 in portions, one was with green stuff which made taste bitter...but ok. Minestrone mushroom was not soupy. Lamb was 4/5, peperoncini were baked dried 1/5 I don't recommend it. Best meal parmeggiano melanzano 5/5. Dry vino bianco was refreshing so was beer.

I found this place by chance. Then I looked it up on google and the reviews were good. I walked up around its opening hours and I got a nice table. The service is warm, food is delicious. And the view outside is stunning. Charming restaurant with character.

Nice place to have lunch. However, I am a foodie, and can tell you that if you have eaten half of the world, and if you have previously eaten in a few Italian restaurants, you will not get a gourmet journey at this place. This restaurant will feed you with OK food, but there will hardly be something you ate that will make you want to come back. Lamb is OK, maybe a little bit too chewy. Fried peppers are over fried to the death, and they are not good (may be the way they prepare them in this part of Italy - avoid them). Parmigiana is ok, but also nothing to write home about. As for the soups, they are not worth trying (they are much better north of Florence and in northern Italy).

Tasty food , but they sold 2 little Parmesan cheese for 28€, and we didn’t order it at all. Beautiful view.

So lovely food and wine. Get early for a table with a wonderful view. Scam alert however! After the bill arrived, we were offered 4x amaretto s. Which we accepted. ( typically done Free of Charge). However the waiter then proceeded to charge us 3 euros each and wrote it by hand on the bill. Our Italian speaking member was v surprised and said hey these were after the bill are they not free? Not at all. Sadly they weren't even amarettos ... more like "cough medicine". Mentioned to the manager when paying and he fully supported his waiter. So a clear scam to add 12 euros to the bill. For context a 50cl jug of lovely wine was 5 euro. So a rip off. Enjoy, but don't accept "gifts" from waiters at the end of the meal !!!!

Yelp
Excellent location overlooking the Bari Sassi and very historical too. One could easily miss the very deep ancient wine cellar , so be sure to ask and trek all the way down to the bottom to imagine what life was like 80 years ago. We did not come for pizza but for many vegetarian dishes , they have 4-5 different minestrones very thick with many options such as grains and chick peas or eggplant and of course the classic mix . Also big nicoise style salad w tuna and a mushroom tagliatelle w house made pasta. We had a couple super nice waiters this is true just about everywhere in Italys south. We split everything plus a nice tartufo de pizzo chocolate hazelnut ice cream roll which is a Calabrian specialty ., 50 euro w wine out the door for 2. I may never return to California ;-/

Yelp
Off of Piazza Vittorio Veneto on a small alley on the east side of the piazza, you will find Il Terazzino. Go down the winding stairs to this restaurant and pizzeria of very good quality and reasonable prices with a terrace view of Matera's famous (UNESCO) sassi where Passion of the Christ and other movies were filmed. A large, nicely appointed interior set in into the cliff has ancient vaulted ceilings and several rooms with plenty of space for 30-40 tables. We were warmly welcomed by the owner who took our order because the servers had not yet arrived. We ordered the house wine (€3.50 per 1/2 litre), a deep red served slightly above room temperature and a good value. The Tourist Menu is just €18 and includes primo (pasta or soup), secondo (meat dish), and contorno (fries or salad), mineral water, and dessert (spumoni or fruit). I had the Cavatelli alla Boscaiola (€8 ala carte), fresh pasta in a tomato sauce with mushrooms and ham served with grated goat cheese to top it with. The serving was healthy and the flavor delicious. The pasta could have been a bit warmer in order to melt the goat cheese after mixing, but, otherwise, it was a good selection. I also had the Salsiccia di Maiale Arrosto (roasted pork sausage - €8 ala carte) and a side of fries. The sausage was a bit spicy, but flavorful and well cooked, and the fries plentiful, large, and hot. My wife had the Pizza Ai (Quattro) Formaggi (€7.50) with mozzarella, grana padana, gorgonzola, and emmenthal cheeses and without tomato sauce. The pizza was very well done and comparable quality of those in Naples where pizza was born with plenty of cheese and a thin, yet firm, crust. We ate extremely well for under €30 Euros, the service was excellent and the interior roomy but quaint, and would not hesitate to return in the future.
