I recently stayed at the Ilima Hotel penthouse. It’s a bargain for two families in Waikiki. It is newly renovated and felt like a home away from home. It has 3 bedrooms and two full bathrooms. We had two little ones under 10 and the full size kitchen was perfect for two families. The unit had a washer/dryer, which was very convenient for our frequent visits to the beach.||The hotel offered free parking for both of our cars, which saved us about $100/night for overnight parking in most hotels. The hotel staff is awesome and friendly, always greeted us with a friendly aloha.||Hotel is located a block away from International Marketplace and all the eateries that we want. Walk to the beach is easy and covered through the mall. Great location.

I absolutely loved this hotel and would recommend it to anyone visiting Oahu!!! It really has that authentic Hawaiian vibe. The rooms are stylish, spacious, and super comfortable. The location was perfect — just a ~3–5 min walk to the Waikiki Beach area. Parking is included, and there were plenty of spots available. One of the biggest pluses for me was having a kitchen in the room — so convenient! There’s also a balcony, and the view from our room was just stunning. I had specifically booked a room with a mountain view — so stunning!!! BUT, at first, we were given a room facing the buildings, even though I had booked (and paid for) a room with a mountain view. When I politely asked to switch rooms, the staff explained there were no more available. My mother wasn’t ready to give up — a couple of hours later she went back to the front desk and asked again, this time mentioning she’d like to speak with a manager. In the end, they were able to help us without involving a manager. We were offered the option to wait until the next day and switch without extra charge, but we didn’t want to wait — so we paid an extra ~$100 (since the new room had a larger bed) and moved that same day. So my advice: don’t be afraid to kindly speak up if something’s not right — especially if you paid for it. I still highly recommend this hotel!!!

Here's a review you could use for the Ilima Hotel: --- **Review for Ilima Hotel** I recently stayed at the Ilima Hotel and had a fantastic experience! The property is beautiful and well-maintained. The standout feature for me was the amazing customer service—everyone was friendly and incredibly helpful. The location is perfect, conveniently close to various restaurants and the International Marketplace, making it easy to explore the local area. I highly recommend the studio for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. A special shoutout to Jay for being the best host! Thank you for making my visit memorable!

I went to hotel after an Extended trip in Hawaii. The Staff was EXCELLENT and Polite. The Price was a little much but I understand the location of the hotel. The hotel is a little old or outdated but that’s was Fine because the Rooms are Spacious and has Everything you need. I actually liked it. However I took a Star away on Housekeeping/ cleanliness its was semi dirty and the pillows/walls/ and balcony Appeared to have BLOOD on them. Gross! Unacceptable .I literally discovered it after awakening the next day. Because upon check in I just placed my items down and left the room until night. Please tell Housekeeping to check more thoroughly. I really wanted to ask for something to be Compromised on my next stay. But it was time to fly out early in the A.M. on a rush. Uuuuggghhh other than that it was pretty okay. Great Front desk workers!

This is a great hotel with incredible access to anything you need (shopping, food, groceries, beach…) just a few minutes walk away. The facilities are super clean and the staff is very friendly. Unlike every other hotel I looked at and stayed at in Hawai’i over a two year period, the Ilima actually has free parking which was greatly appreciated. They also offer a kitchenette which can keep you from having to eat out every day and save you money. Thank you for making our stay in Hawai’i so special, and providing such an amazing service!

Google
A vintage hotel in the best sense. The beautiful kona-wood and stone lobby brings you right back to old school Hawaii. The staff are incredibly and nice and helpful (especially when they fixed a screw up we made with our reservation!). Parking is tight, but it's also free. The location, off the main strip but close enough to walk in ten minutes, is perfect. If we were to stay in Waikiki again, this is where it would be.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Ilima Hotel over St. Patrick’s Day, and it was an absolute blast! The staff were incredibly professional and friendly, making us feel welcomed from the moment we arrived. The hotel’s charming Hawaiian theme added a special touch to our stay, and it’s hard to beat the value—hands down the best price we found in Waikiki. I’d wholeheartedly recommend the Ilima Hotel to anyone looking for a delightful and affordable getaway!

Google
I didn’t book this hotel initially. I was send here because the condo I booked with Waikiki beach condo made a mistake they over booked. But honestly I’m happier!! The staff is so amazing! They provide you with whatever you need. And there’s Parking but it’s first come first serve.

Yelp
Staff are very friendly. Parking included. Triple A gets discount. Walking distance to stores, beach, restaurants. Huge clean brightly decorated room with full kitchen including full sized fridge. Safety features in shower included non slip mat and safety grab bar.

Yelp
Given the price (~$120 per night) and location. I find that this hotel is very much worth it if you're on a budget. The staff is friendly, the rooms are clean and their services are up to standard. Only complaints is that the shower head pressure is low and the A/C unit in the room is loud. What stood out was the inclusion of dinnerware such as plates, bowls, and silverware. Even a microwave in the room makes eating leftovers very convenient. If you're looking for a resort experience then this place is not for you. Go spend twice or 3x as much for that experience but if you just want an affordable place to stay near the beach, shopping areas, and great food, then this place is for you.

Yelp
(+) Pros: Location, Price, Friendlessness, Cleanliness (-) Cons: Outdated Rooms, Cramp Parking I stayed here for a week in August 2021, when there were still some pandemic restrictions ( although it has been more relaxed compared to earlier in the same year). Location: This hotel is located in Waikiki, the heart of tourism in Honolulu. This hotel is near many popular places - including Maguro Brothers (sashimi & poke), Marugame Udon, Kona Coffee Purveyors, Basalt (get the charcoal buttermilk pancakes!), Heavenly Island Lifestyle, International Market Place, etc. It takes around 10 minutes to walk to Waikiki Beach. The only con is that there is a small tattoo parlor and bar on Nohonani St., which I did feel a bit hesitant to walk past at night. Price: For the area, this hotel is a good option for budget-friendly travelers who don't want to shell out a few hundred dollars a day on a beach-front hotel. Please note that there was a $27.45/night resort fee. Service: The staff at the hotel is amazing! I have stayed at nicer hotels, but some haven't even come as close to the service here. Cleanliness: Housekeeping services were provided every day without any prior request. I was immensely surprised at how clean it was considering the limited time they had during the day. Rooms: When I stayed, the room was clean, albeit a bit outdated, but it looks like based on the recent reviews, they have done some remodeling. The beds were large and comfortable to sleep in. Compared to other hotels I was searching in the same area, this hotel has a kitchenette ( including a fridge, microwave, sink, coffee machine, and burners). They had more kitchen utensils in stock than I expected. However one morning, I smelled and heard a nearby occupant making breakfast. My room has a balcony with a view of the city, but I rarely go there because the furniture isn't that pleasant to see. If you're lucky/paid more, you can get great views of the mountains. Parking: There is limited free parking. The staff will provide a parking pass to hang in your car throughout your stay. As long as you come back and park around 5:00 P.M., you should be able to find a parking spot. If you arrive later, you will need to pay for parking nearby. I would recommend renting a compact car because the parking spaces were a tad narrow. All in all, I would come back here again if I ever visited Honolulu.

Yelp
Its the iconic location where McGarett does his open for Hawaii 5-0 still the greatest show ever shot in Hawaii. Its also on the Ala Wai Boat harbor the iconic scene opening Gilligans Island. It has great management and staff .. its open air and clean. McDonalds and Ihop are across the street. Its not on the beach but a skywalk takes you to the start of Waikiki Beach.. surf for locals only.

Yelp
Ive stayed here for 5 nights so far, and it has been a really good experience. I was skeptical considering some mixed reviews about the place, but there are some good pros that make this place worthwhile to stay! I'm staying on the 16th floor, and boy it's an incredible view. Everyday I've been waking up to fresh coffee, tea, and sitting outside on the lanai. The lanai is a decent size, and has 2 chairs and a table. I got the deluxe option which includes two beds, kitchen, and a lanai facing Manoa, canal, and the golf course. Cooking: definitely able to cook small meals here. There is a stove, oven, fridge, sink, and has basic pots/pans. Everything works good. Service: everyone at the front desk has been very kind and friendly. Shoutout to Nicole! She's awesome and a really genuine person. Computer: there is computer access downstairs and you are able to use it, the front desk can provide you with the password. Pool: the pool is small, but it is great since you can reserve it just for your party. It's nice to have a private pool time without strangers in the same pool. You can reserve it for 1 hour. Hours are 8-9pm. There's also a sauna room and a small gym that features 2 treadmills. Parking: FREE. Which is what makes this place so great. I've been able to find parking everyday, although the night time would probably get harder to find. Recommend getting the car back to the hotel earlier and then walking to dinner around the area so you don't lose the spot. Overall, it's been really peaceful and everything I've needed for my stay. I would recommend this place to family/friends who are looking for an affordable place. Taking one star because the hotel is a bit outdated. But they maintain the building and amenities well!

Yelp
Everything from my original review still stands except for they are currently doing updates. This time we got to stay in an updated room. They were really nice and it felt more modern. I don't love their unglazed wood furniture though it's hard to clean and can stain super easily. Other than that we love just sitting on our balcony here. There are also TONS of restaurants within very short walking distances as well as a canal people bike, run and walk on just down the street. I highly recommend this hotel and if we do come back to Oahu we will for sure stay here again.

Yelp
Overall, I had a pleasant stay at Ilima Hotel. It might be my favorite hotel that I've stayed at in Waikiki around the same price given what I was looking for. The staff were also friendly and reasonable. It's also walking distance to the International Marketplace and beach. The room is basically a studio. I came with 2 other people for around a week. We had our own small kitchen with all the kitchen supplies provided such as mugs, bowls, plates, utensils, a coffee maker with free coffee and tea, sponge, dishwashing soap, a drying rack, etc. Basically anything I needed from a kitchen was there. The fridge is also pretty big compared to the mini fridges you often see at hotels. We were able to store leftovers and our own ice cubes (they provide ice cube trays, but I also brought my own). There was also a fairly big dining table where we could eat our take out. Huge difference compared to other hotels where we didn't have a dedicated dining table. Plenty of outlets available. They even had USB outlets by the bed in case you didn't have your charging brick. They had a closet with extra pillows and blankets in case you needed them. There's a laundry room in the hotel where you can pay with your credit card and also buy detergent in the front. Internet was okay. It was fast enough to stream Netflix on my phone, but for some reason too slow to load a lot of things on my laptop, such as Google docs or FaceTime calls. Free parking included. If you've visited Waikiki many times, you find that parking is so expensive at most hotels each night (usually around $20-$40 from my experience), but this hotel's was free. Spaces are a little tight, but you can't beat free. We were never unable to find a spot when we came back from our excursions. They did warn about the possibility of no more available spaces. The only annoying part about our stay was there was construction Monday-Friday happening in the garage. While we were never really around to hear it, I could see it being annoying if I wanted to nap in the middle of the day.

Yelp
Going on the 3rd month of jackhammers 8 hours a day starting at 9am promptly. Whoever is managing this project should be fired for lack of consideration for several hundred neighbors some like myself who work nights. Complete lack of empathy and foresight to the local ohana.

Yelp
Update: I can't really recommend this place in good conscience. The staff is the saving grace. And while the hotel is still charming, there are upgrades needed that can't be looked over. #1the bugs. Now we didn't see centipedes and only 1 small dead roach...but the ants!!! And I say ants in the hopes they weren't bed bugs. Def ants in the kitchen despite ours and housekeeping's cleaning. But I woke up with new bites nightly, as did my son. Now, my husband and daughter had zero....so again, fingers crossed they weren't bedbugs. They also need to look around their property more often. "No Blacks" was carved into the wall of the sauna. Idk 'Ilima. Take it floor by floor, room by room. But upgrade things: floors, wallpaper, hinges, the foil-lined stove. 'Ilima will give you a place to sleep for cheap. And it shows.

Love it here's service always great it just horrible parking with above average size vehicle

Yelp
If your looking for a peaceful vacation this is the place for you!!! Beautiful and quite. Not so crazy with people all over the place. Staff is so friendly. The are older adults with lots of respect. I wish I found this gem long ago instead of staying at big hotels that's over crowded.

Yelp
We stayed here for 8 nights while in Oahu/Waikiki and the Ilima Hotel met the expectations. Primarily what I was looking for was: 1. Free parking 2. Close to the center of Waikiki but not smack-dab in the middle of it and 3. kitchenette. The previous hotel I booked had only 1 of these 3 so I cancelled and booked Ilima instead based on generally positive reviews. So here's the deal...this is probably a 3 star hotel but it is extremely outdated. Everything from the paint to furniture and even their post cards is very 70s. It seems that everyone agrees that major renovation work is in order. But considering the prices of other hotels in Wakiki and the options they offer, Ilima is a decent deal. The parking is free but the parking garage is steep and the spots are very narrow. It will require some maneuvering if you have a larger rental vehicle just to get in between the lines and not hit anything. We lucked out and had a spot every night, but the later you are back, the more likely it gets that all the spots will fill up. The friendly front desk staff will explain this upon check-in. The rooms are spacious and clean but there is that "dated" smell in the air so this is obviously not a hotel for anyone who expects ocean breeze smell for the length of the stay in the room. The kitchenette is small but functional and while it will not allow you to cook 3 meals/day, it will come in handy for occasional meal in the room. Our room had a nice view from the balcony towards Ala Wai canal and the mountains in the background. Waikiki beach is about 2 blocks down which translates to 10 minute walk. While I didn't care for it, it is nice that you can just walk few minutes and be in the center of all the touristy and overpriced shopping and dining. Every Wednesday at Ilima they offer free Kukui Nut Lei class which is a very cool and relaxing thing to do. The pool was closed for the renovation but was supposed to be open by the time of this review. For anyone concerned about safety I don't think there is anything to worry about. Yes, there is a dive bar right when you come out and start walking towards the beach but this being Waikiki I can't see how much safer it is anywhere else considering the number of tourists in this area. Overall, I'm glad I experienced Waikiki but if I would to come back to Oahu, I'd probably choose another area to stay next time, away from most of the traffic if possible. But for a budget minded traveler that wants to be close the center of the action and not break the bank, Ilima Hotel is not a bad option at all.

Yelp
My husband and I spent a night at the Ilima Hotel right in the heart of Waikiki - what a nice surprise!! Great location, recently renovated rooms, just a couple minutes to the iconic International Marketplace, literally a couple minutes to shops and restaurants, and a short walk/block to the beach and the famous Kalakalua Avenue (beach street). The rates are very reasonable. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel if you want a great location, boutique style hotel, super nice/friendly staff, clean and nostalgic.

Natsuki T.

Yelp
Never judge a book by its cover! From the outside, you can tell it's not a luxury hotel but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! The rooms are clean, the AC worked great, and the bathroom was very clean. The water pressure wasn't very strong but our room had its own water heater so we had hot hot water, which is rare for most hotels. We had a refrigerator, and kitchenette with all the necessary kitchen items needed to make breakfast. The stoves did not get hot very quickly but I'm sure it has something to do with fire hazard. The sinks have a garbage disposal, and drying rack. The staff was SO nice and friendly!! The parking lot does get full at night so we just walked everywhere and didn't move our car much. We highly recommend this location if you're looking for a budget friendly hotel that is walking distance to Waikiki Beach and several restaurants and shops.

Yelp
The most impressive thing about this place is the service. Everyone was so friendly and seemed genuinely happy to speak with their guests. The hotel is a bit older, but very well kept. It was clean and tidy, housekeeping came everyday at the same time, and always did a wonderful job. So nice to come back to the hotel after a Long Beach day and crawl into a fresh made hotel bed. My only complaint....the parking lot is small, and the spots are microscopic. I felt a little bummed because they advertise free parking, which for this area is a huge plus. It was free, but you had to be back early or you end up having to find street parking. Overall it's a great option for the Waikiki area if you don't mind being a bit farther from the beach and plan on spending most of your day outside the hotel anyway!

Steph B.

Yelp
Wonderful place to stay, especially if you're on a budget and want to be in the heart of Waikiki. The staff are the gem of this hotel. They are incredibly friendly, professional, responsive, and an all around pleasure to work with. Free parking is a super bonus, especially considering that you can spend an hour looking for parking on a busy night. Yes, spaces are tight and you have to be back by 7 to find parking but all small sacrifices for free and safe parking. The premises are dated but we got an updated kitchen. They were also accommodating with our large group and provided more pans. The staff also noticed we had a big group so they independently added towels for us, great service. We had a minor ant issue but the staff were quick to help. It's a tropical climate so the ants are always around. Keep your kitchen and living area tidy and clean, you'll have no problems. Tip house keeping, they're great. They rotate cleaners so tip per day and not at the end. Otherwise, designate the individual on an envelope. The pool was epic. It's small but heated. Deepest is 6 ft so perfect for our family. They had an outdoor shower, tiny gym, and the lounge area was clean. Last, it's close to so many amenities. There are plenty of good food options, stores, and mass transit. The beach is only a few minutes away! Highly recommend!

Yelp
If I could give this place a zero star I would. We made reservations, were ok if it was a little cheaper but their "free parking" is truly free because no one can park there. The lot was full, and they have no options for a discount. If I could get a refund and go somewhere else I would but EVERYWHERE is full. If you plan to stay here and are taking an uber, then you will be fine, but dont for one second think you will park your rental car inside. No instead they will give you suggestions of some free parking with complimentary "West side" thugs looking to break into your car while you are checking in. Oh, and the lot across the street, is conveniently $35.00 and they are happy to send you there. Here in my pictures you can see the staff directing people to park out in that dark lot.

Yelp
This review is reflective of my recent stay in the penthouse suite. Pros: - free parking - very friendly staff - price - location - spacious rooms - in-unit washer & dryer (ask front desk for laundry detergent) - overall good for families with young children Cons: - definitely is outdated (if bubblegum pink is your fav color, you'll really like their color scheme!) - kitchen design needs updating with more cupboards, shelves, and counter space - dirty floors: check your feet to confirm after walking barefoot on the floors for a short bit. It looked clean on first glance but nope, not the case. I honestly don't believe it's been mopped in a very long time. - beware of the unsafe balcony railings! very small kids can definitely fit through. We didn't allow our kids out on the balcony at all because of this. - no formal beach towels (they only gave us regular towels to use for beach time) - super tight parking spots! finding an acceptable spot for a minivan was NOT an easy feat. - wifi is free but extremely slow especially at night It was an overall pleasant stay in a convenient location and we got to enjoy some quality time with family but will I stay here again? Likely no.

Yelp
Although they have free parking which was was nice, one thing I thought was inconvenient is that their parking is so small and it was difficult to park(each parking spot is so tight)

Roy C.

Yelp
Very good value for Waikiki. Clean, comfortable, safe, easy walk to beach and canal. Spacious, nice small kitchen. In the process of renovating. Really good and diverse take out down the street on Kuhio. Think the Yelp rating is low based on our experience.

Cindy V.

Yelp
We were a family on a budget and needed room for 4. The room had two bedrooms, a living room and kitchenette. In addition to the two twin beds in one room and the double bed in the other, there was a Murphy bed (not one of those uncomfortable sofa beds) in the living room. We were able to each have our own bed. With a ample size refrigerator/freezer we could cook breakfast and lunch and just buy dinners. It was so comfortable and so close (walking distance). to the international Market place and Waikiki beach. It was a great vacation. And the staff is full of the island hospitality!

Yelp
Hotel is older but very well maintained. Free parking is great but spaces are tight, more for compact cars. Staff is great, beds are very comfortable. Close enough to beach to walk. View from the back deck is great, canal, golf course and mountains. I highly recommend this hotel, you can't beat it for the price and the kitchen will save you lots of money, had a problem with the toaster and it was replaced immediately, customer service at its finest.

Yelp
Ilima Hotel? What is it? Where is it? http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/ilima-hotel-honolulu-2?select=PrISMLYCa9dUdH15JIrqRA We were given a two-night stay as a gift at the Ilima Hotel in the heart Waikiki. Now, we hardly go to Waikiki, as the parking is nonexistent, prices are high, and having to bustle against the many tourists, we couldn't miss this opportunity. Built in 1968, the 17-story Ilima Hotel is an older condominium-style hotel wit h 98 spacious rooms of studios (530 sq ft), 1-bedroom units (650 sq ft), 2-bedroom units (770 sq ft), and a 3-bedroom penthouse suite (1,450 sq ft). In addition to the normal amenities that all hotels have (a/c, iron/ironing board, hair dryer, coffee maker, digital clock radio), all rooms have a private lanai, 32" flat screen TV; free wi-fi access; free local phone calls; free daily newspaper, and a fully equipped kitchen with microwave oven, full refrigerator/freezer, range, toaster, sink, and cooking/eating utensils (+ dishwashing liquid even). http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/ilima-hotel-honolulu-2?select=SrukAL-M8RJMoHUHx-7Lmw There are also a 24-hour front desk, travel services desk in the lobby, daily housekeeping services, free parking, coin-operated laundry, heated pool, small exercise room, and a sun deck. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/ilima-hotel-honolulu-2?select=vr3gigRbAzGujR0xRqhgLw http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/ilima-hotel-honolulu-2?select=XLKoU8QAPrxDerQPfGayGQ http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/ilima-hotel-honolulu-2?select=8L4XIn8iA1EZFXJK6fg1pw The Ilima Hotel is by no means a big name or luxury hotel, nor does it have any on-site restaurant. Neither does it have a large pool or varied exercise equipment. While the décor may be somewhat dated, it is an affordable boutique-type hotel with rooms having full kitchens and daily housekeeping services. We had no intention of cooking our meals in the room, and the only time we were there was to sleep, as we were out and about during the day. We enjoyed our staycation there for the following reasons: - Large spacious rooms. We had a lot of space to move around, even if it had a full kitchen and a small dining table. The room was very clean, kudos to their housekeeping staff. The lanai even had two chairs + a table and provided nice views of the Ala Wai Canal and the mountains towards Manoa. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/ilima-hotel-honolulu-2?select=sd4kcdAOsoZAaSYVETGQTA http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/ilima-hotel-honolulu-2?select=PfMRaaayUoPurOBriu-a6g - Convenient location. Located on Nohonani Street between Ala Wai Blvd. and Kuhio Ave., it was just around the corner from Marukame Udon and a 5-minute walk to the International Market Place on Kalakaua Ave. It was easily within walking distance to any of the Waikiki restaurants and the Pan Pacific Festival, which we took in while we were there. - Friendly employees. The staff is very knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating to guest needs, as they treat the hotel guests as their family. They would always be smiling and ask if they can be of any help when we walked passed them in the hotel. What was interesting was that hotel employees are trained to sing Hawaiian songs, dance the hula, and be proficient in lei making; they in turn display their skills to hotel guests at scheduled times. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/ilima-hotel-honolulu-2?select=zxsSay_iR4ReK03v0dOjVg http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/ilima-hotel-honolulu-2?select=6j42NYFVfefPoGrAf4Fpsg - Good value. Although we did not have to pay for the room, the lowest kamaaina rate for the studio room is $121 including taxes based on availability. Not bad considering the size of the room, full kitchen, daily housekeeping, coin laundry, free parking, and the location of the hotel. The owner of the hotel is Teruya Brothers Ltd., who was the previous owner of Times Supermarket before selling the markets to its current Mainland owner. If you're not looking for a fancy hotel room with restaurants or a large pool, the Ilima Hotel may be just right for you. It is certainly a consideration should we stay in Waikiki again.

Yelp
The first time I stayed at the Ilima Hotel, I was really impressed with all the amenities that it offers and the fact that it's in the central part of Downtown Waikiki, which is my favorite part to stay at. This is a relatively "inexpensive" hotel whose rooms come with a kitchenette, larger refrigerator, sink/garbage disposal, a microwave and stove along with plenty of utensils, cups, and plates. - Swimming pool is on the ground level. - Complementary parking is available (make sure you register your vehicle when checking in) and on a first-come, first-served basis. There are more spots than someplace like the Aqua Pearl, but you don't want to return too late (like 8 or 9 PM) as all the stalls may be taken by then. And yes, in and out privileges are included (which really helped with my hectic and unpredictable schedule) unlike other hotels and parking lots. Basically, it allows for a lot more flexibility, especially if you forgot something in your room or need to come back during the daytime or just want to hang out in Waikiki for the entire day. Might really help to have a smaller vehicle if you want to fit in the tight spots more easily! In fact, I swear this is currently the only hotel in Waikiki that offers any kind of free self-parking! - Laundry room is on the 3rd floor, which is also the top level of parking. Just make sure you have quarters and laundry detergent with you. Washing costs $1.50 and drying costs $1.25. - There are some good views and a relaxing area on the 7th floor. - If you are assigned a relatively high floor (at least floors 10-16), then you will definitely get a fabulous view of Waikiki and/or the Manoa Valley. - Wireless Internet was previously only in the lobby, but as of April 2013, wireless is now available in all rooms! (a bit slow at times). - HD Television (cable was upgraded as of April 2013). - Spacious room overall with two beds, a small couch (normally next to the sliding door to the patio), and a round table with several chairs next to the kitchen. - Staff was very friendly and helpful (one of them even helped with suggesting parking spots for my rental car during a couple of nights that I was there in September/October 2012). Other things to consider: Ilima Hotel in the central part of Waikiki is only 1 block from the International Marketplace, a 5-10 minute walk to Waikiki Beach, 2 blocks from the nearest grocery store (Food Pantry), and right next to the Ala Wai Canal (if you'd like to jog up and down the street). So the next time I stay at any hotel in Waikiki, Ilima will definitely continue to be my choice! Especially with free parking, which as mentioned before and as most people know from previous experiences is extremely hard to find in someplace like Waikiki!

Yelp
Hotel is little old but very comfortable and clean. Staff are very friendly. Plus they have parking which is hard to find in Waikiki. We definitely will be back! Mahalo!

Yelp
Staying here in Waikiki was a great choice. The rooms are huge, but undeniably 2 star accommodations. But you should consider staying here if you're looking for: A great location that's walking distance from Waikiki Beach. It's in the heart of waikiki It has free parking, which is a huge perk that's worth at least $25/night The accommodations are cheaper than most of the hotels in the area. The staff is genuinely friendly You have a full kitchen and fridge to hold your leftovers Unless you're looking for a beachfront property with 5 star amenities, this place is a hidden gem.

Yelp
Pros: Great location with walking distance to the Wakiki beach. Rooms are clean and spacious, albeit old. Friendly Staff. Cons: Parking is free but is first-come-first-serve and gets full around 5 pm. Fitness room only has one treadmill and cycling machine.

Yelp
This place is fabulous. It's 6 minutes from the beach, and steps away from the heart of Waikiki. Our room was spacious with a balcony overlooking Waikiki and the Pacific. There is free parking and, best of all, this is about the friendliest and most helpful hotel staff I've seen anywhere. And the price is very reasonable. Other hotels charge a "facilities fee" and up to $50 a day for parking--money better spent on a nice meal or some fun activity. This place is low-key and not very showy, but delivers where it counts--in value and service. A real hidden gem in the heart of Waikiki.

Yelp
BE CAREFUL ! THIS HOTEL HAS BED BUG ! It took me several months to finally calm down enough to write this review. For those of you who had similar problem, I am sorry. Here is our story. We checked into room 603. The next morning, my dad found a bug on bed and smashed it. We thought it is hawaii so we co-exist with some little creatures. The next morning around 5-6am, I sit up and saw a black moving dot against white bedsheet. I immediately use the bedsheet and wrapped the little one. Then my husband caught the creature and put it into a plastic bag. That was when the whole horror story started. I have never seen a bedbug and had to go on-line to do some search. When I put the plastic bag against the pictures on-line, I was frightened. YES, WE JUST CAUGHT A LIVE BEDBUG ! We went to the front office and were told: 1. There is no room to change to. They are overbooked. 2. They will not put us into another hotel. 3. We need to wait for the manager when he gets in at 8am. When the manager came in, he was rather nice and tried to help with the situation. Initially they didn't have the room. When they realized that we have senior, a baby and I am pregnant, they found a room 703 for us. We waited till afternoon around 3:30 pm in the lobby and moved into the new room. In the interim, my husband put all of our belongings into dryer and it took him all day. The manager was nice and also sent some of my clothes to dry clean. One would think this is the end. BUT IT IS NOT ! The next morning after we moved into 703, we found over 40 bits on me, over 15 on my son and plenty on my folks. I went downstairs and showed my bits to the manager, he told me they were not bits from bedbug. I trusted him and we stayed in 703 for another night. The next morning, we got a lot of more bits. I guess more bugs found out we were there. We went down and showed the bites to the manager and he agreed that these were bites from bedbug. We were moved to 804, a room in a different section of the building. Again, we spent all day in the laundry room. By now, we spent several days dealing with bed bugs. So I asked the manager for discount. I made it very clear that we should not pay for the nights that the room had bedbugs, this should be the 2-nights we saw and captured the bugs and the nights we were severely bitten. For reasons we do not understand, the manager translated our request as we wanted a free ride for the whole time. We had to explain to him three more times. Per manager, his boss will offer two nights for free. I found it to be not acceptable and did not take the offer. I told the manager that I will talk to my credit card company and let them negotiate what is fair. When I filed the case with my credit card company, the reply I got was that the merchant stated that the two nights have been already refunded to us. Based on this statement, the credit card company considered this a closed case. Afterward, when I contacted the manager again, I got no response. I have to contact him again and again to finally get the 2-night refund, which he claimed I received before. This really changed my perception of the manager and the hotel. I teach my 2 yr old to be honest. To be fair, it is really just bad luck that we got a room with bedbug. However, I would have done different under the situation if I was in the hotel business. I would not let the guests stay at the same room after seeing all the bits, especially considering the presence of younger and senior guests. I would tell the credit card company the truth regarding whether the refund has occurred or not. I will also take the loss and not charge the guess when the service is not provided according to what being promised. All in all, it was a disastrous experience. Considering all the costs with tickets, rental car and emotional stress, the last thing we would have wished for was to deal with bedbug for 5 days straight. Oh, yeah, if you know this, there was also all the hassle when we returned to make sure we did not bring the little creature into the house. On a side note, I was shocked when the manager told me that: It takes about 2-weeks from the day of treatment for the company to come back to check the results. THEY WILL SELL THE ROOM DURING THIS TWO WEEKS WAITING PERIOD. Please make sure you check with them when you check in and make sure you do not get one of these. I hope this long story is of use when you stay in the hotel. Good luck and safe travel !

Yelp
From my childhood, Waikiki was never my scene. It's too congested, too expensive and too touristy for this country boy. As such, I've made it a point to avoid staying in Waikiki (when possible) and even doing anything down that side when I have to make those O'ahu trips for various reasons. On my most recent trip, I had a restricted budget to work with, so I started looking for a hotel that had descent ratings and was reasonably priced and Ilima Hotel ended up being getting my business. Of course, I was apprehensive because of the fact that it's located in Waikiki, but I was told that I rarely ever go outside of "the box" when it comes to staying on O'ahu, so I decided to be open minded about this experience. I'm glad I went for it because Ilima Hotel was something completely unexpected. First of all, the hotel's staff was awesome, courteous, very helpful and full of Aloha. They showed that they cared about your stay and were very unpretentious, making me feel more like a valued guest rather than just another means of revenue. Also, they expressed a sincerity in their gratitude that I would choose to stay with them, which I've never experienced at other hotels. Secondly, the hotel room was unbelievably spacious for the price that I paid. It wasn't the typical "tight quarters" where you feel pressured to do nothing but sleep. The room turned out to be a nice place to just kick back and relax with a sizable balcony, a full studio kitchen (refrigerator, sink, stove, etc.), the largest t.v. I've seen in a hotel room that turns on to the last channel you watched (rather than resetting) and comfortable beds. Thirdly, the hotel parking was free. The staff do inform you that there is limited parking and that it is based on a "first come, first served" basis. The stalls are tight and you are asked to park between the lines, but if you're a parking pro then this won't be an issue. (The nice thing about where I parked was that it was directly under my room and I could see my vehicle while chillin' on the balcony.) Lastly, but certainly not least, the price for the overall experience was unbeatable...especially for Waikiki. The decor, although a little dated, was conducive of the area the hotel is located in, but the price and everything else outshines these minuscule aesthetic "discrepancies". I'm still not a fan of the Waikiki scene. But I'm looking forward to my next overnight visit to O'ahu because I know of a really excellent hotel in Waikiki that has changed my perspective of staying in Waikiki!

Yelp
Everyone is very friendly. I would say the cleaning products used in the lobby and rooms give it an institutional feel. Smelling more like a hospital, than the fun 70s hotel 2 blocks from the beach that it is. This place is on my short list for affordable suite hotels.

Yelp
My family and I stayed at the Ilima hotel and we had the best experience with the whole staff. Especially Courtney. Due to COVID-19 we scheduled our time for the pool and it was amazing to have a private pool. Thank you to the wonderful staff. You guys made our stay awesome.

Yelp
We stayed 2 nights at the Ilima hotel. There were 12 of us and we got 2, 2 bedroom suits. They were across the hall so our kids were going back and forth through, with no problems or complaints from anyone. Mind you we have 3 loud 10ish year olds and a really loud baby boy so it was really nice.. On Wednesday we took the kids to a complimentary Kukui nut lei making class hosted by the most beautiful aunties in the world. Our leis came out so beautiful, what a nice keep sake. Anyway... Its close to lots of places walking distance, and just a few blocks from Waikiki beach. Only reason for 4 stars is due to parking, it should be first come first serve. We are from Oahu, so a nice stressless stay in Waikiki is great! Thanks Ilima hotel

Yelp
This was a wonderful experience. Check in time is supposed to be 3 pm but I wasn't feeling good and was going out that night and desperately needed a nap. The desk clerks let me check in at 1pm and my room was amazing! It was huge and clean. Good coffee. Great view of Ala Wai Canal. I wish I stayed longer than one night because the bed was so comfortable. The hotel is so damned cute and maybe a little older than some but it's very Hawaiian. Free parking and a kitchenette-- wow, it's wonderful! I'll come back for sure. Love this place and its staff. They gave me a very pretty shell lei when I left. Mahalo Ilima!

Yelp
So apparently I booked a hotel room at Ilima Hotel for 3: my boyfriend, myself and a damn cockroach. And apparently, Mr. Cockroach was a quiet, little bastard because the f*cker didn't show up until my last day in Hawaii. Crawling. Dying. Right by the stove. Still convulsing. Still twitching. Still slightly alive. Sexy. I assume he was trying to warn me about Ilima Hotel because it seemed as though he found management's strategically placed poison (probably under the stove) and decided his last dying wish was to be seen. Well, HALLELUJAH, you got your wish! And to make matters worst, when I saw that his antennas were still fidgeting around, I screamed at my boyfriend to "take care of it" and he did so with an empty beer bottle. Classy. The absolute worst part of this situation? I told the front desk while we were checking out and all I got was an apology. Something like this: "Oh no. Sorry..." Serious? I was completely disgusted. And while some may think this was a one time deal, consider this: - There was an ORKIN TRUCK parked outside the hotel. - I found BUG TRAPS under BOTH our BEDS. The required 1 star is for: + FREE PARKING: Parking spaces are like ones found in SF - CRAMPED. So WORTH IT if you have a car. So NOT WORTH IT if you park like shit. HOWEVER, I value my hygiene wayyyyy too much to stay here again. Not even free parking can lure me back! If you absolutely MUST stay here, do not pay more than $100/night.

Yelp
When we were booking a hotel for our six-night stay, we wanted a place that was in the mid price range, close-ish to the beach, free internet, a pool, and a kitchen. The Ilima met all those requirements--about $90 per night, three blocks to Waikiki, internet hookup in every room, a tiny pool (which we never ended up using), and a full kitchen. There were so many other great added bonuses! Like: 1. the 88-year-old man who acted as concierge. 2. The completely 100% sweet paintings in the lobby. (One, entitled "Fire", featured a Hawaiian god and goddess, both scantily clad, surrounded by a fiery volcano. Amazing). 3. Coin-op laundry room, which came in handy after a run-in with some red Hawaiian mud (and sweaty pits!). 4. The A/C in the hotel room had a remote control. 5. Free parking. Apparently this is the only hotel on Waikiki that offers it. Some downfalls: Room cleaning came at weird times. One morning it was at 9 am, before we were even up. She said she'd come back, but never made it. Another day it was late, when we were already back in the room relaxing and had to skedaddle to give her some privacy. There also weren't some of the standard amenities you come to expect at a hotel: like the shampoo, conditioners, lotion. How was I supposed to pilfer my next month's supply of hygiene products? Finally, check-out time is noon, which is pretty standard, but we didn't fly out until 10 pm. We asked if we could have a late checkout. The answer was yes! They'd extend it from noon until one for free. After that, it was another 90 bucks to get any extra time. Yikes! So of course we didn't take that option. At least they were kind enough to keep our bags behind the desk while we romped in the sun for one more day. All in all, we made a good choice with this place. Although, with a bright pink exterior and interiors straight from the 70's, how can you go wrong?

Yelp
First and foremost, this is a "budget hotel" What that means is: It's outdated It might smell a little bit like chlorine and lavender (aka, old) The elevators take a while You can't order pr0n on the TV You don't have much of a view and yes, there is pink....everywhere! Now, what's awesome about this hotel is: It's affordable Friendly staff, from front desk to management to housecleaning Plenty of beach mats and clean towels at the front desk Free kukui nut lei making class...way more fun than you would think! (My lei was off the chain...) Large room, with balcony for fresh air and a kitchen Free parking (which was tight but we managed to find a place every day and didn't ding the rental) You're a couple blocks from the heart of Waikiki and the beach. I think for the cost it's a great deal and would totally recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, above board, affordable and conveniently located hotel.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed one night in the Ilima Hotel, and we loved it. We found a fantastic deal on a room via Expedia, and the hotel surpassed our expectations. I had heard that it was somewhat old, but this wasn't a problem at all. The front desk staff were all very friendly and helpful, even letting us extend the normal noon checkout by an hour so that we would have time to head up to the north shore for some morning snorkeling and still have time to get back to the hotel and take a shower before checking out. The facility itself is great. We stayed in a "deluxe" room on the 11th floor, which had a king size bed and a double bed, a kitchen area (complete with a fridge and an electric range), a small dining table, a desk with free wired Ethernet (cable included), and a nice bathroom. It also had two closets, its own water heater, and a good-sized lanai. There were chocolates in the room for us, beach towels available to borrow, and free parking in the attached garage. All of this for under $100 for the night! We were really happy.

Yelp
I searched long and hard to find the best hotel deal I could for Waikiki. I researched all the hotels around using both the Frommer's guide and Oahu Revealed and found the Ilima to be highly rated in both so we booked two nights there for my group of friends. There were definitely good things about it, but overall I would not stay there again. First the good. . . The prices are pretty good and they have a wide selection of room types available. We had a two bedroom suite (great for a group of friends traveling together) and it was very spacious. The location was nice too. Just leave the car in the hotel's large garage and walk a few easy blocks to downtown Waikiki. The staff was very friendly and the lobby was nice, although there was construction going on when we were there. The bad . . The room decor was motel level, not bad but not great. It was definitely a walk to get to the water so this is not a place to stay if you want to spend your vacation at the beach. And the ugly. . . Roaches!! This is not an uncommon problem on the islands but I was still surprised to come back to the hotel after dinner the first night and see roaches running when we flipped on the lights. Ech. Next time, I am going to pay a little bit more for a nicer hotel closer to the water. And hopefully this time we aren't going to have any unwanted pests.

Yelp
experience: 4.5 stars "thee pink hotel".. prior to a wknd stay.. ive never heard of this hotel, the reason why i stayed here is because this was the ONLY waikiki hotel that had 2 rooms available. for the kamaaina (resident) price of $187ish for a 650sq ft one bedroom, it was a steal! pros: - spacious rooms at reasonable prices - fully equipd kitchens (stove, micro, reefer, utensils, plates, glasses, etc) - a/c units in living room and bedroom - good sized flatscreen tvs in both living room and bedroom! - good sized safe in bedroom - full bedroom closet w/ floor to ceiling mirrors - lots of room to entertain - sofa, chair, dining table for 4, study desk, patio/balcony w/ 2 chairs and small table - 3.. yes 3 landline phones (bedroom, kitchen and study table) - jacuzzi tub w/ 8 water jets... yes sir! cons: - outdated stylings and furnishings.. minus the flatscreen tvs - ridiculously tight parking structure.. early birds get the best stalls *hint* - pink accents.. omg.. everything in this building was pink - ugly view from balcony.. let alone any window bottom line: the "price" and the "pros" made it extremely easy to ignore the cons..

Yelp
I loved this place! Stayed here in June with my girlfriend while she was visiting, and we found a great deal on their website. The room was about $90 a night, and we stayed for five days. The Good: 1) CHEAP! Exactly what we were looking for price-wise. 2) The full kitchen was great! 3) Free parking (though this had a negative - read on for more)! 4) The room was clean and spacious, and everything looked relatively well taken care of. 5) Free internet (corded, though, so only one laptop can be plugged in). 6) The room was very quiet (because of the fact that the windows were well structured, I think). The Bad: 1) The free parking was not always necessarily available. On a Thursday night, the night before we were supposed to leave, the parking was packed and there was no room. The people in the parking garage who watched it told me and my girlfriend to park across the street at the other hotel and that we would be reimbursed for the amount we had to spend ($18). We went ahead and did that, only to find out that no one in the hotel knew about this policy and we weren't going to be reimbursed for the money! This was a big deal for us, since we're not the richest people in the universe. Needless to say, I battled with the concierge for a while, but to no avail - and there is no way that I'm going all the way back down to Waikiki just to get my $18 back when I work so much. This in and of itself took off one star for this review, just because it caused me so much trouble and stress, and the concierge treated me like an idiot for not knowing they weren't going to pay me back. Also: if you're going to tout free parking, only let the people who actually are paying for the hotel park there! We're paying guests, why should we have to struggle for parking if it's supposedly included? :\ 2) One of the stovetop burners didn't work. Though, the others did, so I didn't have any complaints there. All in all, the positives outweighed the negatives by amounts, and I would stay here again - I would, however, be really wary of the parking situation.

Yelp
Really nice receptionists! My dad ran by here because we were basically hotel hopping every night to get the best deals but this place offered us a good deal (to us a good deal was under $160 a night) with huge rooms!!! The decor is outdated (its like you're in a 90's movie set) but hey-- let's face it. You're in Hawaii to DO things, so you just need a bed (they're clean here)!

Yelp
Staff seems kind but is really unprofessional and rude. Do not recommend coming to this hotel book any other if you have a choice.

Yelp
We got the two room suite (sleeps 6) at a good rate. The room is spacious and relatively clean too. hotel staff is very friendly. The pool is heated but tiny. Who really needs a pool in Hawaii? The gym is what the picture shows...what you see is what you get. The hotel itself is a bit old but the parking is free! Most of the hotels charge $25-$40 per day) Great location. Good rates. Great staff. Uh and did I mention free parking. 3.5 stars

Yelp
I have stayed in Ilima Hotel twice in the last six years. Both times were very pleasant with no disappointment. The location is in the heart of Waikiki within a block from restaurants and Starbucks (Wakiki Trade Center). The hotel provides very good value for what I paid for - clean room, free parking, free wifi, kitchenette (with a small full size fridge), coin laundry, friendly staff, quiet at night etc. Everything turned out just the way we had hoped for. No gimmicks. No extra charges. It's hard to find a reasonable hotel with those qualities in Waikiki. I would highly recommend this hotel If you are looking for a no-frills hotel.

Yelp
This place definitely is a great place to stay if your wanting to enjoy Honolulu on a budget. The parking can be tough on Wednesdays, and you may have to swat of the prostitutes after 10pm, but the service inside the hotel is super legit. Fresh towels, room was always clean and you never hear your neighbors. The view isn't much, but they are truly accommodating. I asked for two pillows and within minutes the staff brought us three. To boot, the kitchen comes in handy in case you wanna go food land and get some things. I def would have to say I will make plans to go back in the future if my money gets funny. Best, the beaches are all 5 minutes from the place. Score!

Yelp
Affordable family accommodations an easy 2 1/2 block walk to the beach. 2BR apartment (full kitchen & lanai) with free parking is less than a tiny room at the beachside resort. Definitely dated-- but clean, spacious, and staff with lots of aloha spirit. Teeny tiny pool. Awesome murals :)

Yelp
First time at this hotel...We had 5 people in a 2 bedroom suite. Welcome to the 70's. We had a very nice stay bedrooms were a bit cramped, and beds were small, but overall was very comfortable. Hotel style is very dated but well kept and clean. We heard there was limited parking but we didnt run into a problem, and was a bit tight with a mini van... But parking is FREE! Bottom line: Great Price, Friendly Staff, Dated but Clean Room.... would go again
