"I described Illa Experience Hotel as a 10-room boutique in Quito's San Marcos neighborhood, housed in a renovated mansion where each floor offers distinct decor—colonial, republic, and contemporary—providing a varied, atmospheric stay." - Stacey Leasca

Illa Experience Hotel (Quito, Ecuador) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels
"Set in a 17th-century house in Quito's Old Town, this boutique property takes its name from the Quechua word for "sacred light." The restoration honors the building's residential past while adding contemporary comforts: rooms balance period details with modern sleep technology. What distinguishes Illa is its deliberate focus on sensory memory: coffee service channels traditional family gatherings, linens carry floral scents meant to evoke domestic warmth, and the kitchen produces soups and dishes tied to Ecuadorian childhood nostalgia. It is an ambitious attempt to translate cultural memory into hospitality, and when it works, it creates something genuinely affecting, and not merely atmospheric." - Tablet Hotels

The hotel is lovely and the service is impeccable. It’s a boutique hotel so note, there are defined restaurant hours. We arrived after the restaurant was closed and the team was more than willing to grab us a nosh to tide us over until breakfast.
William, from the front desk is a gem. He was so kind and accommodating and inquisitive of what else he could do to make our stay excellent. Andres worked the dinners in the restaurant and he too is top-notch with a beautiful attitude. Michael worked breakfast and was excellent as well.
My only comment for consideration, there is no air conditioning in rooms and granted Quito doesn’t need air conditioning, but our room faced the courtyard (which was under construction) and even with a window open, the air does not move at all. Because the room and shower are open concept it got very warm. Still rating our stay 5 star.
Location was good, walkable to square and various attractions.

After travelling for 24 hours from the UK we arrived shattered in the darkness . |We were greeted with the gorgeous night lights over the Panecillo and the Virgin statue ||Our room had the view along with the outside terrace with burning cauldron.|We walked the dark deserted streets of the old town to get an i goal|bind with the place we had arrived after being given instructions of where it was safe to walk. The location is beautiful with the narrow streets. ||The breakfast was simply lovely in the egg restaurant and the sun shone in the lovely view we had seen the night before ||It's a small intimate hotel that's takes complete individual care of you|Nothing is too much trouble. We felt well looked after. The internal decorations of the hotel with its inner courtyard are beautifully done. ||They even got coffee and boiled eggs ready for our early departure back to the airport after the second night

We stayed 4 nights. This is a boutique hotel in the Old City with a lovely view of Quito, especially in the direction of the statue of Virgin Mary. The view from the restaurant and breakfast room being absolutely stunning. Sort of walkable to the Plaza Grande.
Highs:
Spacious suite room, windows that can open if you desire fresh air. Excellent bed and bathroom. Quiet.
Service as a whole excellent.
In house restaurant very good.
Breakfast is combination of buffet and cooked items with great variety and freshness.
Lows:
Suite amenities could be better. Soap dispensers were unlabelled and didn't dispense. We had to unscrew the container to pour out the soap. Bedroom slippers not provided. Turn down service spotty. We had to remind them the next day after they missed turn down one day.

We stayed at the Illa Experience hotel three times in Feb-Mar 2025. Each time was an absolutely wonderful experience, and we look forward to returning. Marvelous and unique rooms, most excellent and enthusiastic staff--all we met went out of their way to be helpful. The meals in the restaurant were delicious and enabled us to sample the full range of Ecuadoran food, often explained to us by the chef. The breakfast location in the "nest" was a delight, as were the breakfasts. In short, fine personalized service that was five stars all the way.

What a beautiful hotel! To walk in and see the tiled pool and surrounding plants is breath taking! It is exquisitely maintained and the furniture plush with elegance. The atmosphere is quiet and there are many areas for privacy and relaxation. ||We so enjoyed our dinner at a tablecloth covered table for two with gold cutlery and crystal glassware while watching the Chef prepare our dinner.
