I visited this beautiful department store in Copenhagen and was initially impressed by the wide variety of products and the overall ambiance. I found something I liked, paid for it, and before leaving, I decided to have a sip of water from my backpack and place my purchase inside it. As I did this near the exit, I placed my backpack in one of the shopping baskets next to the security gate, and suddenly, the alarm went off. A young staff member, who had just assisted me with my purchase, approached and asked to check my backpack. Despite finding nothing suspicious, he proceeded to ask me to open my coat and open a smaller bag inside. He thoroughly inspected my belongings again. This all happened in full view of other customers, making me feel extremely uncomfortable and embarrassed. Interestingly, when I passed through a second security gate, there was no alarm, suggesting the first might have been malfunctioning. The staff member did not apologize but simply wished me a good day. This experience left me with a negative impression, overshadowing what started as a pleasant visit. I hope the store reviews its security procedures to ensure customers are treated with more respect and discretion.

A beautifully curated Danish design experience—with a few soft seats, please! Illums Bolighus was a joy to explore—packed with stylish souvenirs, elegant ceramics (both handmade and mass-produced), and plenty of Scandinavian charm. The clothing and footwear were especially nice, and my partner found a gorgeous new outfit that’s perfect for her growing pregnancy. 🧡 As for the furniture… well, classic Nordic design: minimalist, beautiful, and about as cozy as a glacier. 😄 We admired, we sat briefly, and we moved on. Also, shoutout to the restrooms—super clean and well-kept, which is always appreciated when roaming the city. Tusind tak! A lovely stop whether you’re shopping, browsing, or just enjoying a bit of Danish design culture.

People who like looking at cute Danish props like this will find it worth seeing. People who want to buy souvenirs can probably buy Danish souvenirs here? Of course, it's tax-free. In addition to Danish props, there's also a small Moomin shop. They're having a sale after the season ends. The dishes were really cute. They exhibit and sell various luxury dishes, clothing, bedding, furniture, and other items. Just looking at them makes you want to buy them all.

❤️❤️❤️Loving the lighting area in the upper ground of this building. It’s so luxurious and beautiful collection of lightings. The staff in this lighting area specially this lady that help me is very nice and helpful to me even I don’t look like I could afford such an expensive lighting. We even bought one of the Poulsen pendant light and they arranged and packed very good and arrived in our place which take note in different country❤️ Wish I could say the same to the kitchen and plate area in the ground floor. They are not friendly and rude.

Absolutely outstanding experience. If you love the best design money can buy, you will not be disappointed. Especially the top floor in the lamp section; you are met by competent, polite and professional staff that will show you the ins and outs of your object of interest with exceptional patience. I cannot vouch for them enough, it is an easy recommendation to spend your money in. I spent a decent chunk of change here and did not regret it and I am sure neither will you. A must stop location!

Illums Bolighus - A Designer's Haven (October 2022) Illums Bolighus, a renowned Scandinavian design haven, once again mesmerized visitors with its exceptional offerings in October 2022. Nestled in the heart of Copenhagen, this iconic store continues to be a captivating destination for design enthusiasts worldwide. As I stepped into Illums Bolighus, I was immediately struck by the exquisite curation of products. From sleek furniture to elegant home decor, every item seemed like a piece of art meticulously crafted to perfection. The store's ambiance exuded an air of sophistication, making the shopping experience truly delightful. The staff at Illums Bolighus were not only friendly and approachable but also extremely knowledgeable about the products they sold. Their insightful guidance and recommendations further enriched my visit. The array of Scandinavian designs available was remarkable, showcasing a harmonious blend of functionality and aesthetic appeal. Whether you're seeking minimalist elegance or bold statement pieces, Illums Bolighus has something for every taste. Additionally, the in-store cafe provided a welcome respite after hours of exploring the vast selection. The Scandinavian-inspired menu offered delectable treats that perfectly complemented the overall experience. In conclusion, Illums Bolighus in October 2022 lived up to its reputation as a designer's haven. With its stunning collection, attentive staff, and enchanting ambiance, it remains an essential destination for anyone seeking to adorn their living spaces with timeless elegance. I eagerly look forward to my next visit, and I cannot recommend this place enough for design enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike.

Yelp
Simply put, a shop full of beautiful things. We visited this large department store, as well as one of the smaller outposts. I indulged in several beautiful things, as did my boyfriend. My Georg Jenson champagne topper will always remind me of a wonderful trip København. Ditto for the beautiful bag I got here. Everything here is extremely high quality. And the prices are not all that bad for how nice everything is. Worth a pop in, or two!

Yelp
Lovely department store, with a wide variety of high quality merchandise, including furniture (was very tempted by the teak dining tables, but shipping costs were significant), clothes ( got some very nice leather boots for my wife), cookware, etc. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Fairly priced for the quality of merchandise.

Yelp
Oh my, I had no idea what to expect upon entering what thought was a womenswear store. This was a Saks Fifth Avenue on steroids. Four floors of upscale designer clothes from just about ant designer you can name. Beautifully decorated. As you took each turn, another name brand would appear before your eyes. I had a great time wandering about looking at outfits and home decor. Take a stroll through here if you're nearby. Interesting sights. Free WiFi.

Yelp

Yelp
A top end department store with some of the most extensive kitchen and dining selections I have seen in a long time. I was looking for leather placemats, something the Danish design very well and was told, I might find them here. Sure enough, I did :-) A multi level store with fashion, kitchen and dining accessories, shoes, furniture and so on. Many famous Danish designers products are available here and you can easily drain your pockets of cash and credit :-) I had to drag myself out of this store to avoid buying things I could not take back with me. A shop worth a car trip from Germany so that I can shop to my hearts content. Staff are super friendly and very helpful. They were quick to point me to where the selections might be located and I found what I needed. The lady at the cash was also kind enough to pack things for me for travel and gave me tips on how to care for the products I purchased. Would come back here in a heartbeat.

Yelp
Department store number 1 in Copenhagen. Here you can buy all the classic Nordic design stuff. I just love to walk around to look at the furnitures. The service is always good. They will advise you, where to go, if they don't have the things, you are looking for.

Yelp
Traditional Danish design is all about combining minimalism and functionality while incorporating materials such as sleek, powder-finished steels, high-quality woods, polished ceramics, and softer, more muted colors into a final product. Illums Bolighus is located on Strøget, the main shopping street of Copenhagen, and brings the best of Danish design under one roof. That means it is mind-boggling expensive. Like, expect a price tag of $60ish for any single smaller item (like plates, cups, small toys), and $400ish and up for lamps and such. I don't even want to get into the tables. There are 4 floors, (0, 1, 2, and 3). Floor 0: "accessories" - lots of plates, cups, mugs, toys, vases, silverware, souvenirs. Floor 1: clothes, makeup, bedding Floor 2: kitchen? Floor 3: tables and lamps OPENING HOURS Monday-Friday 10-19 Saturday 10-18 Sunday 11-17 TRAVELING Get off at Kongens Nytorv, walk straight for about 10 seconds, take a left at the first street you come to (should take you down the length of Magasin), and just continue on. You should hit Strøget at this point, but continue walking until you see the fountain statue. Illums is just past it, near the Disney store. PROTIP There are two 50% rooms on the 1st floor. Worth coming by every 1.5 months to see the new items and display in Illums and what else is on sale. tl;dr: lots of traditional and expensive Danish design under one roof. Baubles will be expensive but high-quality. Use common sense when shopping here, but there is a 50% off room on 1st floor.

Yelp
I am sorry to say that I cannot recommend that people shop at the main Copenhagen Illums Bolighus if you want polite, friendly customer service. I searched for just one helpful, pleasant cashier in the store on December 30th and alas, none to be found. They are an expensive and elite store and I looked forward to shopping for a number of things there. I left dismayed and journeyed on to Magasin and Artium for the same items- which I found. I was treated and respected with much more attention than at Illums. I have shopped at Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Lord and Taylor and have never had the cold shoulder I experienced at Illums Bolighus. Interestingly - I shopped a bit at their highly regarded neighbors, Royal Copenhagen and Georg Jensen, and was welcomed and treated very well. No excuse for such poor welcoming at Illums Bolighus.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Scandinavian design, but there were times when I had to drag myself here since I was accompanying people (read: tourists) to buy some (upgraded) souvenirs from the land of Denmark. The place is overfilled, imho, with things. It's rather hard to find the things that you want because there are so many things around that are also screaming for your attention. Unless you know which specific products (or which brand you're very much into) you want to buy, forget it - this place is a nightmare to navigate in. They have mostly home decor, kitchen appliances and cutlery, things that you mostly don't need but maybe want because they're cute (and posh, somewhat!) and on the upper floor you find more of the "softer varieties" as in pillows, bed linens and stuff. They do have the posh-er souvenirs stuff, let's say Kay Bojesen's monkey or the Dalarna horses painted in Dannebrog colour (my Swede swore it felt wrong to see them sold on the wrong side of Øresund strait). Don't get me wrong, I'm also a sucker for fancier stuff, but this shop can gives me headache sometimes. Chaotic, too many people, too many items. Like I said, it's a good place because it's got so many stuff - probably the one that you've been dreaming about, but unless you know beforehand what you're looking for, it's almost impossible just to wander here to look at stuff.

Yelp
One single sentence: I want this store in San Francisco! Ok...few more. I don't know how many people in the US can appreciate the Scandinavian Design, but it's all about simple design combined with functionality. Even the city like SF, there is only handful of stores that I can find some stuff...(sigh)

Yelp
If you're a fan of Scandinavian design, you will want to stop by while you're in town. This store has every big name (Iittala, Arne Jacobsen, Poul Henningsen, etc.) and then some on its three sprawling levels. I had to stop my husband from renting a Maersk container and backing it up to the door. We couldn't fit anything in our suitcase, but we had a lot of fun salivating over things we'd love to stuff our house with.

Yelp
Illums Bolighus is a great store to visit to see Danish Design. It's another matter if you want to shop the store online. I have done it twice, and the last time will indeed be the last. Not only was the service slow and communication spotty, they also shipped the wrong items. They replaced these with the obvious promise to cover the shipping costs (to the US). Alas, I ended up paying customs twice (once on each shipment), and Illums Bolighus refused to pay for the customs on the replacement shipment. "This is a cost charged the customer, not Illums Bolighus", I was told. OK! The store is upscale, and so are the prices. But the service is not worthy of a discount store. You can read about many similar experiences at http://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.illumsbolighus.dk.

Yelp
I purchased an Arne Jacobsen watch from this lovely-appearing store September 2, 2016. Unfortunately, it had a defective movement, determined by a local watchmaker in Sarasota, FL, USA. Illums Bolighus has simply IGNORED sever emails about this. BUYER BEWARE this store in case of any problem!

Yelp
Everytime I'm in Copenhagen and need some Danish design article either for a present or for my home, I make sure to check Illums Bolighus. It's this nordic design center selling the most famous brands, from Georg Jensen to Iittala. From super comfortable beds to little design pieces, towels, rugs, kitchenware, etc. all distributed in 4/5 floors. Many of the articles are very expensive and they don't go on sale often (that's why I'm not giving 5 stars, you can find some stuff on sale in other home decor shops in town) but when they do go on sale here, it's worth checking it out. I love the way stuff is displayed and all the brands the store carries. They have a nice online shop if you want to buy online and get things delivered to your home but I prefer to go directly to the store or to check out the items available before going because I love the shop and its central location right on the main shopping street. A gift of Danish design (like mugs, jars, candleholders) from Royal Copenhagen, Georg Jensen, Rosendahl, etc is always appreciated.
