This was a challenging review to write, with both pros and cons. I would in an ideal world rate it a 3.5.
To begin - the setting and location of Lluka Retreat is incredible. The views of the lake from our tent was stunning and an idyllic spot to unwind and relax in. You can tell that they take pride in this aspect of the accommodation and it really is lovely. I enjoyed waking up early, hearing the native birds, and taking a walk around the lake. It’s also located right by some excellent wineries! So 5/5 in terms of location, the grounds, and views!
However I must also write about what perhaps lets this place down, given the steep price point. Considering that this glamping accommodation sits at the higher end
(from a cost perspective), I must admit that we felt that it was lacking in a few simple areas that would elevate this place if it was there. There were little to no amenities at all within the tent. I’m talking no water cups, no water, no wine glasses (considering we’re in the middle of all the wineries) or anything of that sort. All we had were some blankets, hot water bottles, towels and a bin.
I’ve been to glamping places in the past priced considerably lower that include all of that, plus a complementary bottle of wine, robes, air con, kettle, and more. This is really what makes it glamping, rather than simply camping.
Sometimes it’s the little things that go a long way, especially if you're paying between $350-390 per night.
