Ilya's Barber Shop

I’ve come here a couple of times and every time I was satisfied with my cut. Nadya would take her time and all was well. Today I allowed the older gentleman to attempt to cut my hair. Let’s just say it did not turn out so well. During the cut he offered to clean up my beard which I kindly turned down. I assume this is where things went sour because he began to rush through my cut. As two more customers came in his pace only increased. Having been used to the attention to detail that Nadya would pay I clearly noticed the difference. Once he was done I paid and even gave him a decent tip. Upon returning to the office someone brought to my attention how uneven the cut was and how a lock of hair above my beard had been left uncut. I returned to get it fixed and the gentleman mentions that he didn’t cut it because I didn’t want my beard cut and therefore did not even pay attention to the area. As I leave I hear him mutter “this guy” as if it was my fault. I definitely will not be returning to this barber shop and recommend that if you MUST go, only go to see Nadya. Unfortunately the pictures does not include the lock of uncut hair but just the final results of how messy and uneven it came out.

This location has closed, Leo / Ilya is now at 342 Broadway btw Leonard and Worth, Royal Hair Salon. Still the best!

I cannot recommend this barber shop enough. I'm new to the city and have had a hard time finding an affordable place to get a quality trim. Ilya's Barber Shop is definitely the place to go! The owner is a very kind guy with a sincere interest in making his customers happy. You won't regret giving this shop a try!

Iryna did a phenomenal job on my haircut. Superb attention to detail. Excellent blend from top to sides. I'll come back for her. She is only in on Fridays.

Been getting my cuts here for a few years now. Leo is great at what he does and the staff is always welcoming and friendly. Prices are reasonable. My only con is that he doesn't really clean up my neck and ears after a cut and i always have a ton of hair left on me after hes done. Makes a kind of uncomfortable trip home but its not really a deal breaker for me.

Great place. Very friendly. Great prices. Update: Went back for the second time today. I couldn't be happier. This place is a hidden gem in the neighborhood. As others have said, they do good work, at a great price and very quickly. They will work with you and spend as much time as it takes, but they know what they're doing so it really doesn't take all that long. This place is really awesome. I hate getting my hair cut. I always wait too long. I get anxious about it. But I feel right at home here. Very genuine old school vibe. Businesses like this are becoming harder and harder to find. I won't get my haircut anywhere else.

This place is a New York staple. Ilya does a great haircut, as does the woman who comes in on Friday. It's a pretty no-frills experience, but it is also a great price and I love catching up with Ilya. He's got a classic story of immigrant hustle and making his way in a new country. I always love to learn more about his life. The place is super conveniently located for the Canal St. subway and I love that I can just call Ilya and tell him I'm coming. So many shops these days make you sign up for an account and jump through digital hoops just to make an appointment.

Leo seems like a charismatic friendly guy, but beware. Hes a mediocre / bad barber. I grew up getting haircuts here but stopped going years ago , after he botched my sideburns for the 2nd or 3rd time. Hes one of those barbers that gives you the cut he feels like, not the cut you ask for. He also Screws over his neighbors and anyone he works with. Dont support this scumbag. Dont get a bad cut.

Like coming home every time I'm here. I Live in LA and I try to wait to cut my hair until I here in NY. Got to get a hair cut and a shave when you see llya. It's a little Slice of Heaven! Thank you!

Best barbershop in NYC. I used to pay $70 per cut at a fancy place and I get an even better result here. I love this place.

If you're looking for a fresh, sharp on point haircut, this is not the place. Expect a great clips type of haircut. Rough around the edges really but cheap for most nyc places.

Irina was excellent! She took great care in cutting and styling my hair just how I asked. Price was excellent ($20 in manhattan) and service was fast and professional! Just a few minute walk from the canal st station. Will be coming back again!

Just moved into the area. Had walked by a few times and after finally looking up the reviews, I gave it a try. Had my hair cut by Leo and was very happy with the results and certainly plan on going back. Also, pricing is on point, and for anyone that likes to keep their hair short and together, you will not be breaking the bank here.

Ilya gave me a great haircut. Was very friendly the whole time but didn't force a conversation. Haircut was quick, but one of the bests I have gotten in New York. The price is unmatched for the city. Will absolutely be going back!

I've been going to Ilya's Barber Shop for three years now, and no one puts as much time and care into his cuts as Leo does. Leo always makes sure not just to give me the cut I ask for, but to contour the cut to the specific shape of my head. He also makes recommendations on what might look nice and what would be appropriate for different times of year and occasions. He even helped me to find a new cut that I enjoy far more than my previous standby. The rest of his staff is equally friendly and thoughtful. Between the price that can't be beat and the friendliness and professionalism of the Leo and the rest of the staff, the choice is obvious -- go to Ilya's!

I work in Tribeca and was looking for a quick and cheap haircut on my lunch break. Ilya was very friendly and skillful! I loved the haircut he did on me. I have found my regular barber, finally!

I work really close to this barber shop and would usually come here but today I made the mistake of letting the wrong barber do the job. I was in the seat no more than 15 minutes. He finished the cut in record time! He was in such a rush that he even left a clump of my hair uncut. I had to come back to have him fix it. If you're going to come here make sure you see Nadya and not the older dude. He is not good.

First time here and last time. Fella from uzbekistan cut my hair in record time.Told him what I wanted did total opposite.Left my hair uneven. I Have to wear a hat for a month before i can get it cut by a pro.NEVER AGAIN!!

I came by Leo's purely by chance and was in dire need of a cut. Was greeted with smiles and a willingness to listen to my pickiness w.r.t my cut! Was in and out quick and felt very comfortable. Super cheap.

A street sign on Church street informed me the barber shop was down the block. I could not be more pleased with my experience An experienced barber did what I asked, no fuss, no forced chatter just a professional haircut at a reasonable price.

Leo (as well as his new assistant Yuri) is fantastic. I've been going to him for years and am never disappointed with haircuts or shaves.

Best price in town. They do your eyebrows, hair and there is usually never a long wait. Both the owner and his assistants are very well trained. The service is fantastic. At New Years I even got a free shot after my haircut. I thought that was pretty cool. I've been going to Illya-Leo's since I started working here this bast August.

Small shop, no wait, very friendly guy - Leo knows how to balance what you want and what looks good, really makes an effort to build a relationship with everyone who walks in the door. He knows you can go somewhere else, so he makes it worth your while. If that's not enough, the hours and price is also worth checking this place out!

i get my hair cut here once every two weeks and Leo does a great job. He's quick, knows exactly what I like, is friendly, and professional. You can't beat the price either. Highly recommended!

I was in the area because I had just finished doing Jury Duty. I needed a haircut so I ended up here. Wow, huge mistake. While I was getting my haircut the Barber asked me if I wanted a shave..thank God I refused the offer. The funny thing was that the barber said he wanted to show me that he was a professional. I sat in his chair no more that 4 minutes..now if you have 2 hair strands like Homer Simpson you may only need 4 minutes. Don't go to this barber shop.

I go see Leo twice a week an he is a great barber. I went from a high end salon to Leo and he has been doing a great job for a quarter of the price.

In the neighborhood and came across Ilya's for a $15 haircut instead of the absurd $40 I saw listed further south in Tribeca. Ilya is an awesome guy. Funny, friendly and most importantly did a great job with the haircut. Would've given 5 for 5 if the place was a bit more cleanly/sanitary.

Found this place on Yelp near our hotel. Wanted a treat to get spruced up for dinner tonight. Hopped right in and was greeted warmly - got a great cut and style while the hubs got a shear and shave! What more can I say? Couple of other friends on the grouped stopped in as well. Cool Barbershop experience!
