On the Grid : Imaginarium

"Venture inside to find one-off pieces from UK artists that include indie fairies, alarmingly real fake birds, dolls created by Damien Hirst's former assistant and boutique candle creations. Be warned: there's also, inexplicably, a mummy in a glass case that will haunt your dreams for the rest of your days, but it's worth it for the candles and curios." - Abell Design

I booked a reservation at The Imaginarium 1 week before our visit, specifying there was a vegan member of the party and was assured the restaurant would be able to accommodate this dietary requirement. On arrival the staff were polite and accommodating and when requested took the time to point out the vegan options on the menu. The same staff member took our order and up until this point there were no issues. The food arrived and both me and my friend started to eat the meal. When eating a part of the meal I suspected I had just consumed a piece of meat. I called the staff member over who clarified that there was meat in the dish I had eaten. I immediately stopped eating my meal and asked to speak to the manager. The supervisor came over to apologise and explained the order was taken correctly, however the chef had made an error as they had incorrectly assumed that salt and pepper chips translated to salt and pepper chips with chicken despite these being 2 different options on the menu. This was followed by the chef coming out and apologising and confirming that this was an error on his part. My disappointment persists due to the lack of communication from the restaurant manager to try and resolve what was a distressing experience for me due to my long standing veganism. I was told the manager would contact me some time over the following week to discuss the matter further along with a suitable resolution. This did not happen and there has been no contact. Based on this experience I would not recommend visiting long The Imaginarium if you have any specific dietary requirements as my protected characteristic was not respected or adhered to.

The decor is a credit to the interior designer - it is stylish, finished to a high standard, interesting and a little quirky. Lovely. The staff were attentive, polite and friendly. The let down for me was the food. As a vegetarian I chose pasta with tomatoes and basil. The pasta sat limp on the plate and the tomato sauce was probably one of the worst I have had. The consistency of cold lumpy porridge - tasteless, could have been straight out of a jar or carton. A thimble of average cheese, the only taste on the plate was the two little sprigs of basil. Hugely disappointing. Not sure how the £15.00 can possibly be justified. Marks and Spencer's ready meal is far superior, a fraction of the price and acceptable as it provides what it states on the packaging. Sadly couldn't recommend and won't be rushing back. Shame really as walking in through the door it offered so much.

We were booked in for an early dinner on Sunday- we arrived a little early and were promptly seated and given menus. Drinks orders were taken and drinks arrived quickly. There was a little wait before our food order was taken, I think they just like to give time to peruse the menu but it did feel like a little longer than necessary, however we were REALLY hungry so maybe that made it seem like longer - and that is my only niggle. We had 2 Sunday lunches (1 gammon and 1 beef) and they were absolutely divine! The portion size was huge! The amount of meat was very pleasing and I love the fact that a big jug of extra gravy is brought out as standard (far too many places dont offer enough gravy!). The meat was tender and flavoursome, the veg was all cooked to perfection. Absolutely gorgeous! We were full but still tempted by the apple crumble, which again was big hearty portions. A really delicious meal in a lovely restaurant and we will certainly be back!

I chose the 12 hour slow cooked belly pork. It was one of the most delicious mains I have ever eaten. The red wine sauce was so flavoursome and the sauce that came with the seasoned veg complemented it perfectly. The service was exceptional also. Thank you

Everything was good. Everything was hot. So many places served food barely warm these days it was great to get everything piping hot. One chicken, one halloumi and one filet steak. Three happy diners. Dessert a little small for the price but overall an enjoyable dining experience. £110 for three. Drinks. Shared starter. Three mains. Three desserts. All good quality and tasty and hot. 🙂👍 Would recommend for a special occasion.

Start from the beginning Booking a table was easy using the link on the website. Upon arriving 20 minutes early we was greeted and promptly taken to our table. There was two young lads serving. Drink and food menus given and time allowed to take a look. Orders taken and it wasn't long until our drinks arrived; the cocktail was amazing and shandy was a perfect lemonade to lager ratio. Starter arrived a bit of time but well worth the wait. We had the bread with dips and the flavours were amazing and complimented each other. I really enjoyed the bread. Plates were collected and another drink ordered. Took a while for mains to arrive but again the wait was very much worth it. The food was beautifully presented and tasted gorgeous. The meat on the ribs and chicken wings just fell off the bone. My partners pasta was really nice apparently but I didn't get chance to try it. Plates collected and we asked to see the desert menu. When they were given the server went through the specials. After a few minutes our order was taken and soon after the most delicious deserts were presented. The bill surprised me as I expected the meal to be far more so I left very happy and comfortably full. I'd like to add that the place had a lovely atmosphere, regardless of the incredibly rude guests, and the two young lads serving were a credit to the venue. We will definitely return in the warmer weather to take advantage of the outside eating area. Thank you for making a rare evening just the two of us incredibly enjoyable.

Lovely decor, but I'm afraid we were disappointed. Drinks took a while to be served, the sea food dish was extremely salty, and the pasta wasn't very appetising, for us, it was expensive for the quality of the food. Unfortunately we won't be returning.

What a gem of a restaurant. The food is excellent and very reasonable. You can pay more for a sub-par meal in a chain pub. Give it a go
