The farmer salad was truly delicious-- make sure to add the goat cheese. We got the sea bass and coho salmon which had entirely different flavors but were both delicious. The wines were also lovely. The staff seemed distracted and overwhelmed by the customer but were kind whenever they came to our table. I would have appreciated a bit more attentive service, however.

Can't say enough good things about this restaurant. It's very obvious that the food is prepared with care and a lot of testing. Wine list was great and the service was top notch. I wish I lived closer... I'd be here once a month!

Google
I’m so impressed with this place! The chef made magic happen for every dish she produced in that small kitchen. I absolutely loved the quality and composition of the recipes. All the protein was sourced locally and even the whipping cream was whipped by hand. Highly recommend 👏

Google
I think the restaurant may want to rename itself “In Good Food.” I ordered the beef tenderloin with a butter blue cheese topping. The beef arrived with a temperature just as I had ordered. The butter blue cheese complemented the beef rather than overwhelming it. That alone made the meal. Good Company offers some decent wines and cocktails. I tried the maple “old fashion” and enjoyed the blending of flavors. Service was good and the restaurant has a cozy upscale atmosphere. In Rockland, this is one of the better dining experiences.

Always delicious. One of best wine lists in the midcoast. Melody's flavors are layer, detailed.

Lovely restaurant with amazing food and excellent service. We told our server that we were celebrating our engagement, and we were moved by Vic's efforts to make our evening feel extra special. We'll remember it forever! Thank you!!! ❤️

Our dinner was delicious and made from the finest ingredients. The chef, sous chef and staff are outstanding. Highly recommended while in Rockland.

Google
The quality of the food is excellent. My salmon with black rice and mixed vegetables was cooked to perfection and the chocolate cake with raspberry swirl was sinfully divine. The wine list was impressive with over 100 bottles to choose from. But... the five star review here is elusive due to dings on long waits between service and general clutter behind and on the bar. My bar view into the kitchen showed cooks under tight working space conditions. Additionally, prices were pretty steep for what I received, even at the top quality delivered. Could make a good destination for a date night with the smooth jazz playing in the background.

Yelp
Consistently great food - the beef medallions are scrumptious and always perfectly cooked. The appetizers are amazing - deviled eggs, stuffed peppadews, roasted garlic - all delicious. Be sure to check out the ceiling of this former 1800's bank - it's very cool. Super friendly staff, it's also a great place to eat at the bar as a 1-top.

Yelp
In Good Company has become a must visit for us during our annual treks to Maine and Chef Melody and her team did not let us down on our dining experience. The Thai coconut soup was truly unique and delightful. We had the halibut and the scallops/shrimp fregola sardo and both were out of this world. The staff are all very friendly and knowledgeable about the Chef's creations. This is one you should not miss!

Yelp
Good service, food, and ambience. But spoiled a bit by excessive cooking fumes/smoke from adjacent kitchen that's open to dining area.

Yelp
This is a case where the name of the place perfectly captures the vibe: yes, you're in good company here, and it's intimate, and even if you're coming in for the very first time as a stranger, you'll want to be a local by the time you leave. It's cozy inside (especially so when I was there toward the end of March), and as a solo diner I like to grab a seat at the bar, which tends to be the most convivial. Super friendly staff got me started off with appetizers from the menu, which changes with the seasons and ingredients the chef wants to use. I can vouch for the zesty deviled eggs (which are apparently a house favorite, and I can see why), and some radishes with creamy butter--this place sees me and my love of radishes!! They were the perfect spicy little bite before I had one of the most decadent risottos I've ever had, which was made with fennel and had a whole lot of salty, crispy, delicious guanciale on top. You'd think that would completely fill me up but then there was this fresh cherry pie with homemade cream . . . I mean, what was I supposed to do?? Everything was fantastic, and it's all made by the chef and a couple of her assistants in a teeny tiny kitchen in front of the bar. I'm impressed. The bar seat also proved convivial indeed, as the couple next to me started chatting and made our meal in good company indeed. I can't wait to be back: honestly, this is one of those wonderful little places that makes you want to move to the town just so you can eat there all the time.

Yelp
Risotto was fantastic and drinks are amazing! We will return. Great location. Lovely wait staff.

Yelp
Recently, I did a trip home with husband including Acadia, Rockland, etc. We decided to have happy hour after going to the Farnsworth. Ordered warm olives, fresh bread and butter and nice wine and cocktail. So good! Decided to have salmon, green beans, and herbed potatoes with a green minestrone soup with cashew pesto. Outstanding! We never eat dessert but had the blueberry cheesecake and finished every bite. For not being hungry, we wiped our plates clean. Best meal of our trip

Caroline K.

Yelp
The staff was kind and accommodating with dietary requests like gluten free. My micro greens were fresh and local. I liked my pasta dish with cashew cream sauce and it gave me ideas of what to make at home.

Yelp
my dishes during my service were the cleanest dishes that ever graced my presence. i felt seen, not only by the plate but by the fantastic dishwasher who gave me this experience, i think his name was liam. he deserves a raise, a good and big raise

Yelp
I've reviewed close to 400 dining experiences on Yelp from places all over the world and this one has to be amongst the TOP 5 WORST EXPERIENCES EVER!! I was genuinely excited to have gotten a reservation for a Saturday evening for 4 people. They had so many 5 star reviews and I love the idea of the menu changing daily. I made a reservation for outdoor dining at 7pm and we were seated at 7:20pm. We were starving but willing to be patient since many businesses are short staffed due to Covid. We quickly ordered our drinks and food all together, maybe around 7:30pm. Our app arrived about 45 min later and our main entrees took an additional 45 min. So in total, WE WAITED AN HOUR AND A HALF for our food; completely unacceptable! Our waitress was friendly and we completely understand that it wasn't her fault, but if you cannot provide the customers with a solid dining experience in a reasonable amount of time, why accept our reservation? The whole restaurant has about the 10 tables and there were two waitresses. Menu changes daily with entrees ranging between $25-$35; a few seafood dishes, a chicken and a veggie option. The food was incredible! Steaks were cooked perfectly, flavors were delicious and the ingredients in each dish were fresh. Portions were on the smaller side for the price you pay. Sadly, delicious food alone does not make a dining experience! Overall, unless you'd like to wait over an hour for your meal, RUN AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! It's not worth the terrible management/service!

Yelp
In Good Company is a cozy little restaurant with great food and great service. Our party of ten ordered several entrees and all were wonderful. We will be back when we visit Rockland again and recommend you try this place. Make sure to make a reservation. It's quite popular.

Yelp
We were told we must order our mains at the same time as the appetizer, which started the meal off on the wrong foot. I asked to add a biscuit on the side of my soup order - which seemed rather unacceptable but they ended up adding it. I had tomato lentil soup which was fine but the lentils were still in the crunchy side. My partner had the salmon which seemed boiled and over salted. The food was fine but nothing special. The kitchen did not seem to have adequate ventilation and the smoke from searing meats filled the restaurant. We left smelling smoky and like seafood.

Yelp
We just celebrated our 51st anniversary at In Good Company. I never get tired of telling everyone how wonderful this place is. We have been here many many times and celebrated many other anniversaries, holidays and special occasions. The service is always terrific, and the servers are always very accommodating. I could go into what we had for appetizers, maincourse, and dessert, but that wouldn't be fair to all the other wonderful things on the menu. Please come and enjoy.

Yelp
The menu is overly ambitious- the apps are real fufu- small bits here and there- had to order 9-10 apps for the table- would have been easier to just charge me $15-25 per app and a real portion of cheeses and meats and bread. Restaurant is small / not real cozy/ but it tries/ main courses are chic for Rockland or even for NYC/LA or any cosmopolitan restaurant city. Not a fan of the menu choices- but the kids picked out what was cool to them- price was no issue of course!

Yelp
Always wonderful, In Good Company is cozy, welcoming and delicious. Fresh local fare, terrific service and swell cocktails insure a fabulous experience every time!!!

Yelp
We were staying in Belfast ME wanted a good place to eat since food was poor there. I found this place with awards for their food Their website said they were open. And no reservations required so we drove about an hour to get there. I tried calling phone was busy so I thought they were busy. Boy was I wrong! When we arrived the lights were out. They were closed for the week no indication on the website and no recording on the machine in fact it was busy so I'm writing a poor review for a waste of my time and will never experience if the food was good but because of this their customer service definitely stinks!

Yelp
My wife & I have dined at In Good Company many times when we vacation in Rockport, & this time was the perfect conclusion to an unforgettable vacation in Cape Breton Island. It was an eleven-hour drive from Sydney, sometimes through monsoon-like conditions, & so it was quite the reward to sit down at the bar & revel in the garlic pate app, the melt-in-your mouth filet mignon (me) & the happily explosive taste of the meatloaf (wife). This remains the go-to dining experience in midcoast Maine!

Yelp
What a gem! Main street of Rockland is blossoming with delicious restaurants and IGC is one of them! The atmosphere was super romantic and cozy, the food was impeccable and the service was great. My boyfriend and I were there on a date and while they were attentive with water and clearing our plates, the waitress did not rush us away with the check- clearly picked up on the vibe that we were having a good time hanging out. What we ordered: Deviled eggs (yes!) The patè (YAASSSS) I had the pecorino crusted cod with artichokes and side of sweet potato and green beans My boyfriend had the halibut with porcini mushrooms, parsnip mash and green beans He had a beer and I had the blueberry lemonade shrub which was sooo yummy. All of it was delicious and I just wish we had had room for dessert. Go to In Good Company with good company and you'll be guaranteed a good time.

Yelp
The food was delicious. It exceeded my expectations. The cocktail was delicious the wine was delicious. The vibe is nice and the server was so attentive. This might be one of my favorite places to eat in Rockland so far. I recommend!

Yelp
Incredible place food well prepared tuna was perfect sides complemented and were prepared well, steak was tender tasty and sides were terrific. Tried charcuterie and fried green tomatoes - the best I've tasted and sauces were Perfect . Wait staff attentive Friendly and helpful. Compares favorably with Natalie's in Camden and primo in rockland and half the price. This is a jewel of a restaurant... a real sleeper. Intend to revisit and suggest you do when in midcoast.

Yelp
Wow. Randomly wandered in, sat at the bar, and had one of the best meals of my life. Get the steak with blue cheese! Great service and drinks!

Yelp
We had a fantastic time here sharing an excellent Pinot Noir and talking with the very friendly and engaging staff. The setting is cozy and comfortable. We had already eaten but wished we hadn't as we watched the chef carefully preparing a variety of dishes. I think the wine list needs to be updated, though. Our first 4 selections were sold out. Could be that I'm completely aligned with their other customers in terms of taste but I think it's more likely that the list hasn't been updated in a while. There were still a lot of choices but we went with the server's recommendation of Talisman and it was tremendous! Very glad to have tried it. I'll watch for it in the future. We sat at the bar (great view of the kitchen) and I would definitely sit there again. There were tables open but we enjoyed watching the chef work and talking with the staff. They have a back room for larger groups (maybe 10 or so?) and the front room has about 8-10 smaller tables and a variety of seating options. Next time we're in town we're coming here to eat. We really enjoyed the visit and will definitely be back!

Yelp
The restaurant was cozy and charming. Our waitress was wonderful. Very attentive, friendly and a real pleasure to deal with. The Chef was great to use the tomato sauce for the Monk fish instead of the cream sauce listed on the menu. Our beet salad was delicious and fresh and so was the Manhattan chowder. The rhubarb dessert we took to go, had we known how tasty it was, we would have ordered two. The restaurant was clean, priced appropriately and the service was great. We had a wonderful time and highly recommend to anyone who loves delicious food and a pleasant atmosphere.

Yelp
We ate during the pandemic & made a 7pm outdoor reservation. This restaurant is excellent. Over the course of 2 hours, we ordered: Roasted Garlic App Deviled Eggs App Stuffed Peppers App Swordfish Main Course Beef Tenderlion Main Course Chocolate Cake Rhubarb Compte Tart Every single bite (paired with great wine) was savored. We practically licked the plate. Our server was also fantastic. I would come back again in a heartbeat. I strongly recommend this restaurant. I can't imagine a better meal in Rockland, ME.

Yelp
I had the unfortunate experience of ordering a scollop meal. As we live in Maine I know good scollops, and for the price I was not at all impressed. Tastes like they microwaved the scollops instead of putting the time in to cook them. Service was good though, they ambiance was nice, it was a lot quieter once the music stopped which was nice, however it was pretty smokey in there like the burnt something. Overall for the price I would not recommend, would rather spend the same money for a dinner at Primo.

Yelp
Finding ourselves hungry and tired on the late side of a hot August Sunday, we were relieved to find this charming, intimate, vintage-chic little gem. We didn't know what to expect, but it turns out we made the right decision. My companion had said that "In Good Company" was highly rated as a vegan-friendly spot. Our server, who was super friendly and sweet, and also really good at her job, was a little surprised to hear that; but was happy to veganize a dish on the menu for us. Yay! I had a roasted beet risotto with walnuts and herbs which was entirely fresh, wholesome, and flavorful, even though it was not served as intended (because it was made vegan). As the lighting was low (and gorgeous by the way) my photo of it falls short of conveying how nice it looked. We had an olive medley appetizer, served warm, which was very very good. We hesitated at first at the thought of warm olives, but it turned out to be a really nice complement to our meals. The décor is comforting and kind of homespun in feel, with various eclectic touches. If you're in town, maybe try this place. I can't guarantee that there will be a veganizable (okay that's not actually a word, but clearly should be heh) option or a vegan option on the menu, but the staff truly seems to want to make their customers happy! We will definitely return when we find ourselves in the area again.

Yelp
Despite the information on this site about this restaurant, we were asked if we had a reservation and denied service because we did not have a reservation. This was at 5:30 on a Wednesday evening.

Yelp
Good food. Convenient location. A little expensive. We had deviled eggs, EVOO sampler, salmon and cod cakes. Everything was good, especially the fresh peas.

Yelp
Delicious. Fun to watch the chef from the bar. Hard working staff. Like a delicate ballet. Cherry peppers w goat cheese great bites. Good bread...imported from NY ;) Eggs also good. I had tenderloin...perfectly cooked. Enjoyed the side veggies too. Good wine pours. Get a reservation if in town. Cheers!

Yelp
The best. Truly. Beautiful food. Charming atmosphere. Warm service. No trip to mid coast Maine is complete without a visit here.

Yelp
Wonderful!! Great service and the best meal I have had in a long time. We had salmon and swordfish dishes, both of which were flavorful, perfectly cooked, and beautifully presented. The accompanying vegetable sides were fresh and harmonized well with the fish. Desserts (fudge cake and lemon hyssop posset) blew us away. What a treasure!

Jessica B.

Yelp
The food, service and ambiance made for the perfect evening out with a dear friend. We sat at the bar and enjoyed watching the food being prepared. They were very knowledgeable of the needs for gluten allergies and offered substitution options.

Yelp
Mosquitoes in drinks x 2. Apps were ok - Food was meh , don't bother wasting your time or money. Had called ahead to celebrate my boyfriends birthday . Was told they don't sing but can put a candle on dessert. I ordered a dessert just to celebrate this special day for him. When the dessert arrived , no candle . 150$ for two people and left hungry .

Yelp
Safe, sanitary, clean, and kind. Going out to eat is a different experience found it's important that we consider our health in any dinning experience. May sounds overrated but the oblige oil and bread starter... amazing, fun to compare with other which olive oil is your favorite. And, hey I'm no foodie but you can tell a difference. They also had a varied selection of wine and cocktails. As you will learn I am an annoying flexitarian. They were able to make the risotto dish vegan for me which was very much appreciated. Also we asked about where to go tomorrow and she went above and beyond and was so helpful.

Yelp
We went into this dinner...the last of our ten day Maine vacation...with high expectations based on reviews we'd seen. Unfortunately, we left pretty disappointed. It was one of those nights where the best thing we had was the wine...a quite lovely young (2018) Joseph Voillot Volnay. In Good Company apparently prides itself in presenting an ever changing menu based on available fresh produce, but the menu we got was frankly very uninteresting. The appetizer section...or 'Nibbles'...was particularly weak. Considering we're in Rockland Maine and you would think they should have an abundance of fresh seafood at their fingertips, the only seafood option among the frankly boring options like Deviled Eggs, Black Olive Tapenade and Mousse Truffle Pate was a Tuna and Pineapple Poke Crostini, which we unfortunately ordered. The tuna seemed to be very high quality, but the dish was seriously overloaded with sesame oil that overpowered the fish and there was zero pineapple to be found. And the 'crostini' were so over-toasted and hard they were inedible. However...since we ponied up six bucks for the 'Bread & Olive Oil' tasting, we had some carbs to soak up some of the sesame oil. But about that bread 'tasting'...I've stopped complaining about having to cough up cash for some bread, but if you've got the stones to ask for $6 for bread and three tiny ramikins of oil, you had damn well better impress the Hell outta your customers. This was not that! We got maybe a quarter of a baguette and a few milliliters of oil. We ate at Primo a few days earlier and their bread course featured three different breads that were truly inspiring...and I don't think they hit my wallet that hard. On to the main courses...it was an equally baffling mix of dishes we didn't get too excited about...a tenderloin with blue cheese butter, a halibut dish (but we had halibut twice this week), some kind of 'Octoberfest' sausage/wurst thing (???), a weird sounding beet and goat cheese risotto......so we both ended up ordering a Coho Salmon with apples and an arugula salad. I know Coho salmon can eat very dry...and this certainly did...but the real kicker was it was tasteless! The apple compote was nice, but overdressed, as was the arugula. Two giant slices of heirloom tomatoes were plopped on the plate...and they tasted OK...but seemed out of place with the dish. Neither of us even tried to finish the salmon. We cut our loses and declined dessert...a decision that was quite easy to make when we saw one of the chefs take a torch to a creme brûlée for about two minutes and turn the sugar into something that resembled the ruins of the Dresden bombing. Bottom line, I know these guys are trying hard...we sat at the bar and had a ringside seat to watch the two chefs work their asses off...but so many things just landed flat on every dish that it's just impossible to turn my cheek and let it go. I very rarely can't finish an entree. And I almost never complain about restaurant pricing. But tasteless salmon and six dollar bread needs to get called out for what it is.....
google avatar

Anita B.

Yelp
I don't think that I can ever have fish again anywhere else. The halibut was flawless with a gnocchi that out family in Italy would be proud to serve. Service was informative and friendly. I do t give 5 stars lightly. Look up my reviews. Just go here. This absolutely made my summer.
google avatar

Marie A.

Yelp
Even with a reservation it took 30 minutes to order even a drink. Being slammed is great but being basically ignored is another story. The cheese and meat board and deviled eggs were a hit - the entree I had was ok (seafood cake, which tasted quiche like) with noodles.

Yelp
We look forward to our dinners here every time we go back to our home town to visit. Melody has created a welcoming atmosphere even during COVID. Her food is exquisitely prepared down to the tiniest detail. The food, drink and ambiance never disappoints! Her tenderloin and seafood specials plus her flourless chocolate cake are always show stoppers.

Yelp
Best meal we had in Rockland. As good as Primo but without the destination feel and impersonal service. I had the steak with butter and blue cheese sauce. Not a huge steak eater but it was the best I have ever had. Deviled eggs were also good as an app. Highly recommend!

Sherry W.

Yelp
Everything was exceptional! I'm vegetarian and my hubby loves seafood. He loved the scallops and I enjoyed the roasted poblano cheddar soup. Thanks Maria!

Fred S.

Yelp
First time dining here. Will not be the last! Could have been one of the best dining experiences ever. We sat at the bar and watched the chef/owner Melody do her magic in total rhythm in a tiny kitchen, making appetizers, salads, entrees and deserts with just one helper. The waitstaff was phenomenal, always there when needed, watching from afar when not busy and each making there own cocktails. Now, the food. Exceptional! Warm olives, Tomato, Fennel and Mozzarella Salad, Vennison Flank Steak. All incredible.

Yelp
I stopped here to eat on a Sunday night with two of my girlfriends and I for our last night in Maine. Two of us are from New York and I'm from California. We didn't have reservations, yet we were able to get get a table right away. The inside of this adorable restaurant is very homey and quite small. There is a table through the back of the restaurant that has a very private feel. We ordered a bottle of wine and a few appetizers. The pesto, tapenade and the stuffed peppers. The peppers were a little spicy and meaty. My favorite was the pesto and crostini. My friends ordered the mushroom risotto and the shrimp and noodle dish. February 7th, 2019 Looks like I started this post and then saved as a draft. I thought this place deserved to hear what I nice time we had anyway.

Yelp
Service was good great staff food was mediocre and portions were very small. Pricey for the small portions. Wine was expensive and a small pour. Would not go back.

Yelp
Enjoyed a great meal here with friends while visiting Rockland. As others have noted, you really do feel like you are eating in a friend's living room at this place with its intimate ambiance. Our food took longer than expected but when it did it was worth the wait. We tried the whole-oven roasted garlic with hot brie spread as well as the crostini with olive tapenade. Both were pretty good but we would have liked some more crostini for the dip. We tried three different fishes as seafood is definitely a speciality here including the cod, swordfish, and a halibut. All of the fishes were delicious, very light and perfectly textured. We would have liked slightly bigger portions and a little more with the mains. The cod came with nice butterling potatoes while the swordfish came with a delicious coconut rice. The fennel salad accompanied the mild but tasty ginger sauce on the halibut could have used some potatoes or something more. Our vegetarian friend had a rigatoni with vegetables which described them as much better than expected. The sauce that it came in was very good. Would like to see more vegetarian options but given the menu is more limited and this is not the focus, it is understandable. The menu rotates regularly so they don't normally have specials and the food and drink menus are unique enough that they aren't needed. We also enjoyed the sweet and spicy peppadews stuffed with goat cheese (would recommend they add some fresh herb like thyme) and flourless chocolate cake for dessert. The cake was exquisite and everything really was delicious and warrants the prices. This is the spot in town for foodie people who enjoy good food.

Yelp
I've never been to Rockland so I didn't know what to expect with regards to food. This first place I saw was the Rockland Cafe which had an "all-you-can-eat" seafood deal. The fish-n-chips deal was $10.99 but I wasn't in the mood to stuff myself so I moved on down the street. And a good thing I did because I found In Good Company. The wait-staff was friendly and attentive. I had the seared halibut main course for $17 and the chocolate fudge dessert for around $6. Both dishes were excellent. The prices I thought was very reasonable for the quality. The atmosphere was relaxed. One of the tables was a sofa for informal dining and drinking. There was light vocal music played on the sound system, loud enough to cover adjacent conversations but not too loud for light conversation.

Yelp
I hadn't been to Rockland in about 10 years, so I didn't have high hopes of finding anything much better than crap fast food. My local friends assured me Rockland was worth visiting again, as it had changed a lot. The Rockland of memory was just an inferior stripmall-ish dive not worth visiting unless you wanted cheap junk at some of its chain stores. So I was quite surprised to find that Rockland actually has several nice restaurants along Main St. including In Good Company. My girlfriend and I went there on the recommendation from our local friends (one of them works there), and were just going to get an appetizer since they are pricey, but after trying their home-made pesto we were hooked and stayed for a couple glasses of delicious wine, two delicious entrees and an incredible chocolate desert. It was absolutely worth the splurge!

Yelp
This small restaurant cum wine bar is one where we have enjoyed excellent meals several times in the past. The menu changes frequently depending on what is fresh and always limited to a few entrees. I was surprised that bread was not offered since I could see a few loaves from Atlantic Baking Co. resting on the bar. On our most recent visit we both chose baked halibut as our entrees that came with kale, new potatoes, zucchini and carrots in a tarragon and butter sauce. Because the kitchen is small and the restaurant busy most nights, the wait for our entrees was a bit long, but the results made it worthwhile.
