Super huge maaltijd salad, chocolate mousse dessert, couple of delicious beers intimate setting just off main drag. Enjoyed immensely, thanks 👍

There was building work close by which didn't show this place in the best light. Hopefully this is a temporary situation. The food portions have been reduced, quality and service were still high but so were the prices, which seem to have increased dramatically since a previous visit. 7€ for four slices of bread and some butter!! No surprise the place was very quiet. It's still worth a visit but unless I win the lottery I'll be looking elsewhere next time I'm in Ypres. I don't like leaving negative sounding reviews, especially ones for the hospitality trade, where it's hard to make a profit. Ideal location, great food, good service but prices need a rethink. UPDATE: In fairness to the owners and staff of this restaurant , there seems to have been some mis- communication. Feedback is that building work (outside of the businesses control) will soon come to an end. To prepare really good food, requires talented kitchen staff, quality ingredients and time for preparation and cooking. My comment regarding the bread would appear to have been a simple mistake. As mentioned, I have visited previously and will certainly reserve a table next time I'm in the area. Hopefully I'll see you there.

Had a fantastic experience at a great restaurant! They accommodated us without a booking on our first night, and the food was so good that we returned on our second night. The ham hock, Flemish stew, and fish stew were all delicious, and the diverse beer selection added to the experience. The staff was attentive and friendly, making our dining experience truly enjoyable. Highly recommended!

Arrived about 1730 without a booking but they said we could have a table if we could be finished by 2000. No problem. Charming, efficient staff, nice wine and beer choices, delicious food. The goat cheese salad was one of the best salads ever...the combination of ingredients was well balanced, flavorful, and super fresh. Also liked the Belgian stew. Central location next to the In Flanders Field Museum but not overly touristy.

Excellent food without being touristy expensive in the centre of town. Very friendly and welcoming servers. The atmosphere was very convivial. An oasis in a town full of history.

Update 11/03/2023: My husband and I enjoyed a lovely evening and meal here for his birthday. We love Ypres and Belgium and this is definitely one of the better hostelries! A very popular bar restaurant in one of the main squares in Ypres that we've visited for just drinks, for lunch and for dinner over the years and it's always been very good. Booking is recommended!

The restaurant is located in the downtown, on a beautiful traditional building. The atmosphere is really lovely , and it matches well with the cuisine. The food is delicious, there option for meat and fish. I recommend the season fresh fish with a nice sauce.

We both had Flemish stew with chicory salad and fries. It was amazing, as reviews have said. Thoroughly recommend. Nice laud back ambience with attentive and good humoured friendly staff. Definitely 5 stars.

Yelp
Overlooking City Centre Ieper, this place is a very good spot for a nice evening dinner. The storefront is part of a row of restaurants facing Grote Markt. Along with its neighbors, it offers an extensive outdoor dining area. The indoor facility is also nice having a lovely nostalgic feel with additional seating upstairs as well. My server did a rather good job during my visit. Using English was not a problem at all. The highlight of my meal was a terrific shrimp and tomato salad that was fresh and tasty. The shrimp were the small local variety which I find to be particularly enjoyable. The meal was accompanied by tasty frites, as would be expected in Belgium. I finished with a very nice coffee that topped things off in a very satisfying manner. The prices were not bad considering the overall dining experience. In general, It was an enjoyable time and a reasonably good meal. I am confident in recommending this restaurant as a good choice for good quality dining with a local flair.

Yelp
Like a lot of places on Ypres, this place opens pretty late (around 11:00) so it isn't the best place to go to grab a morning coffee (there are other places in the Grote Markt where you can do that). However it is a great place for a spot of lunch. In fact there lunches (and dinners) are pretty decent sized, though they are a little pricey (comparatively speaking). I ended up having the Flemish stew and my brother had the ham toastie. Well, it turned out the ham toastie was much more than just a basic toastie - it also had a full blown salad included, plus a bowl of chip, and some nuts as appestiser (normally you have to pay for the appetiser, not that I like them because appetisers kill my appetite). Oh, and the Flemish stew was pretty good as well.

Yelp
Lovely open air cafe with indoor pub, next door to Flanders Fields Museum. Excellent selection of Belgian beers. Menu is typical cafe fare with a wide enough selection to satisfy most eaters. I tried the local cheese appetizer, which would have been plenty for 3 or 4 people, and had the Scampi Diabolique with a local abbey beer (Tongerlo) which was recommended by a local; I am happy to say that I wasn't steered wrong, the beer was outstanding and the shrimp was much better than typical cafe meals. p.s. Unexpected bonus: Free WiFi! Connect to KleinStadhuis access point.

Yelp
Great place, with a good atmosphere and friendly staff, who politely advised that I may have ordered too much food for just one person! They were right! The main courses are huge and absolutely delicious - good food with no pretenses! Absolutely recommend the fish stew and spaghetti bolognese!

Yelp
Very nice place. We arrived late from our bike trip and the hotel had no dinner this day. Meandered into town and almost missed this (it's right next to the Den Anker at the cathedral). Steak and goat cheese salad were very good. Unfortunately portions too big so no space for desert. Frietjes awesome as one would expect in Belgium. Agree with the other review that their own beer is great. We loved it after 4 hours in the heat. Quite busy in the evenings so bring time or they seem to take reservations as well.

Yelp
The waiter suggested the duck and Brussels Sprouts. It was delish. The Pilsner was Primas Haacht and I asked for fries. A great meal prior to the Flanders museum.

Yelp
We stopped in for dinner while staying in Ypres. They're located right on the main square. The beer selection is solid. I had a Hommelbier and something else I hadn't seen before. My wife had a Boon Geuze and Rodenbach Vintage. We split cheese croquette which was tiny for the price. Then I had the Flemish Carbonade while she had the Steak with Bernaise. The food was tasty and well prepared. The service was very good and they had wifi which helped because our B&B didn't. I'd definitely go back. It's one if the better beer and dining options in the area.

Yelp
We had dinner two nights in a row. Food great, service great. Make a point to stop here.
